Last year I put a bunch of wood chips down under that cedar tree that is now carving of my dogs. This year now that the sun can get through Im going to look into having SOD put down. It may be just a bit to expensive but well see. Im going to replace the sliding door with a new one and am torn between another sliding door and a door that opens into the house. UPDATE: The other day I asked for your prayers for Bill Mackem, a friend of mine that was going in for by-pass surgery that morning (Tuesday). Well it seems that this surgery which should have taken 6 hours lasted for almost 12 hours. Needless to say he wasnt taking visitors.
The info Ive gotten so far is not very clear, its now Thursday and I think Im just going to call the Hospital and see if they can give me any info or if I can come in for a short visit.
Could I ask for a little prayer or two again, I really do think it helps.

Well after taking that BIG cedar down you can see the dropping on my roof. In the old days I'd get up there and clean it myself. But today with these tired OLD legs I have to hire someone to do it.
These before and after pictures tell the story. With that tree now gone Im hoping my roof will stay a little cleaner a lot longer.

My effort to get rid of the STUFF that I havent used in years or no longer need is moving forward. These pictures show what Ive review this cycle which is the third load Ive given to Saint Vincent de Paul since I started this project. It seems it takes me about a month to get a load. Slow but steady.

Yesterday I started this Post talking about the switch from Analog to Digital that will take effect on June 12, 2009. This was supposed to happen last February but they delayed it.
You may have seen the hype regarding this switch telling you if you had Cable you didnt need to do anything. Turns out thats not THE WHOLE STORY or even the truth if like me you are a COMCAST customer.
Yesterday I got an e-mail from Mark Casem, Comcast Corp. He found my Blog and the Post I made about this transition. In his e-mail he said in part:
Regarding the Comcast "internal transition", we will eventually move analog channels to digital. This is totally different for the one scheduled in June. The internaltransition will allow us to add more channels especially HD channels. For every analog channel, we can fit in 10 to 12 digital channels or 2 to 3 HD channels. In some areas, analog channels were already moved to digital and we've offered Digital to Analog converters (DTA) at no cost. This will allow youto continue watching the analog channels that will be transferred to digital. If you need more information, please feel free to contact me.So it seems this is an effort to create more HD channels and as a result raise my monthly rate. While thats not what he said thats how I view this move. Also he says these DTA converters are FREE thats not true. . . the first 3 are free but each additional will cost you $1.99 PER MONTH, you can't buy them. That makes me mad. Also if you have a TV Tuner in your computer as I do on three of my systems which means I'll need 3 of the DTA converters, one for each of my computers. I have 5 active TVs, and remember it doesn't matter wither they are old analog TV's or brand new right out of the box flat panel TV's they both need this converter. It drives me NUTS that these companies (cable and some others) have not learned a damn thing from the Tech companies of the past. They all want their own system that is unique to them. This lack of compatibility means they can require you to buy it from them only which tends to keep the price up. Using myself as an example I have 5 TV that are currently in use at different times and three computers with built in TV tuners. Subtract the 3 free DTA's that Comcast gives me I will still need 5 more. At $1.99 per month times 5 my cable bill will go up $10.00 per month for a total of $112.30 per. Thats for Expanded Basic cable and Internet Access. I'm sure I'll have more to say on this subject in the days to come. * - - - - - * I'm in the MONEY, I'm in the MONEY. I got my Social Security stimulus money yesterday. What can I do with an extra $250.00. I'll think of something I'm sure. * - - - - - *

Say a little prayer for a friend of mine, Bill Mackem. He had triple by-pass heart surgery yesterday. As I understand it the procedure was to take about 6 hours but it was more like 12. He is schedule to go back to surgery today.
Bill is a runner and has that desire to win. So he'll be doing his part, now with your prayers he will cross that finish line in good shape. Thanks.

Well Saint Vincent de Paul made their third visit here to make a pick-up of my house cleaning effort that Ive been on all these months. It seems to take me about a month to go through my stuff and sort it, take a picture of the item, box it and then put it on the shelve.
Its a slow process but I really feel like Im making some headway

I had my roof cleaned yesterday. After I had the big cedar removed a week or so ago you could see all the stuff that was on my roof. Well its all gone and the roof looks great.
Im going to take some pictures to day and post them here tomorrow.

Leave it to Comcast to figure n out a way to make money on the switch from analog to digital. Im getting a little ahead of myself so here is some background to help fill you in and bring you up to speed. As most of you know we are switching from analog to digital in June. We were going to do it last February but it was then delayed to June. You may have even seen the ads that say if you are on cable TV your GOOD TO GO, there is nothing you have to do. Well it turns out thats not the whole story. . . if you have COMCAST as your cable provider. According to the article in the Kitsap Sun yesterday. "All along they've been advertising that you don't need anything," Lois Hoell of Bremerton said of the Comcast commercials about the DTV (over-the-air) switch. "It's the idea that they have misled everybody." If you subscribe to Comcast cable, you don't have to do anything about getting digital broadcast stations, but you might have to make a few changes to get all of your cable channels between 30 and 74 on all of your televisions. "This is different than the federal transition," Comcast spokesman Walter Neary said. The Comcast changes affect you if you get cable channels higher than 30, and if any of your televisions get cable directly from the wall without the aid of a set-top box.Well in my case I have 5 TVs and 3 computers with TV cards built in that I use to capture the video that I put on my Blog. Ninety percent of the channels I watch are in that 30-70 channel range. So what that means to me is that I need the boxes for my TVs and computers. To be continued tomorrow. . . * - - - - - *

Over the weekend I Posted all the pictures I had taken of my SPPECIAL PROJECT, so if you haven't seen them scroll on down and check them out.
About half the wood is gone. Turns out a retired Army Vet (John) and his 17 year old son (Chris) came by Sunday and loaded it up. They both took the Bear In A Box class and are now developing thier skills.
They will be back to get the rest. I told them that there was no hurry to get it out of the yard (they come from Tacoma) as it is out of the way.
Chris is going to make me an ADDRESS NUMBER HOLDER (231) that the county is giving out to help easily identify a house by the police and fire department. This will be a bear holding the 231 number sign. It should be cute.
One more thing. . .
Im trying to recreate George Kennys WEB SITE (Bear In A Box) as it has some missing pages.
I'm not sure how I'll do it but I'll give it the old collage try. Wish me luck.

I can't tell you how happy I am with the results of this "Chainsaw Carving". My four kids JADA, SWEET, BUDDY and BILLY will be with me always and when I look out my family room window they are what I'll see.

My "SPECIAL PROJECT" phase two starts today. Man I'm really excited about this project. I will of course take pictures and videos as we move along.
* - - - - - * I had to go do my ProTime (blood test) yesterday at 8 am. After that I decided to see if I could get my 4 by 4 plywood sheet with the two 2inch cuts on one side done. I stopped in at Parker Lumber and they said not a problem. I paid for the wood, took my receipt to the follow in the yard area and was back on the road within 10 minutes. Now that's the way to run a business. * - - - - - * Yesterday was a busy and successful day for me. After my ProTime and Plywood deal I went to Fred Meyers to see if there was anything new on the Patio furniture I wanted. They said they had the chairs and umbrella but no table and stand. I said I'd take what they had and wait on the others. As I was leading up to yesterday in my Post I just don't think that Fred Meyers has a good policy the truth is they have no policy that allows the customer to order these items. I think they're losing business. * - - - - - * Man I've had a heck of a time getting someone to stop by and give me an estimate on cleaning my roof and gutters. That is until yesterday. * - - - - - *

We had a little disconnect yesterday so phase two of my "SPECIAL PROJECT" didn't get started. We'll try it again today.
* - - - - - * I went to HOME DEPOT yesterday to get a 4ft by 4ft piece of plywood. I asked if they could fist cut the 4 by 4 and then from one side could they cut two 2in strips. The guy said no he can't do that. After I picked myself up off the floor I said I'd check with Lowes to see what they can do. My God they got this big saw that makes cutting an 8ft by 4ft sheet of plywood a piece of cake and they can cut a 2in strip with it. So much for customer service. * - - - - - *

It's stuff like the above Home Depot crap that drives people from the store and now listen to my tale about Fred Meyer. The other day Fred Meyer ran a big four page color ad called Spring Garden. It listed various plants, Barbecue sets, garden tools and supplies and various Patio Sets. I was interested in the Patio Sets specifically a five piece set called ASPEN for $199.00. (see picture). I went to the local F.M. store to check it out. When I got there no one was in that section to help me. So I went looking for some help. The only one there to help me was this little old lady that said she would try to help which suggests she wasn't from that department. I looked around and asked some basic questions and decided to come back tomorrow which would be Monday. On Monday I went back. . . that part I'll cover tomorrow. * - - - - - *

Today is a little different since my "SPECIAL PROJECT" got started yesterday, so it'll be like a half work day and half weekend.
If you want to see the trees before anything was done go to my post on 5/8/9.
I've broken the videos into three parts for easier viewing. The images are there for you to pick and chose. I posted the crew yesterday.
I'm going to try and sell the wood and hopefully today my boys will be able to come over and give me a hand moving it.
There is some yard damage but not to bad.
I used a company called Ever-Green Tree Service and am very happy with their effort. I have more to do but need sometime to save up a few bucks. I'm hoping I can finish in July or Aug.
Now the fun part begins. That's all I'm going to say about that.

Well the rain stopped late yesterday and man did it rain. I think we must have set some kind of record this year.
Looking outside right now it's overcast and looks like it could rain.
I don't know if today is the day we start on my "SPECIAL PROJECT" because the folks that are going to help me may have been unable to work on other projects and as a result I may be put off until next week. I hope not.

In the early 1980s, Bremerton child chic included acid-washed jeans, double slouched socks - and Charly B sweatshirts.
It was Bremerton's hometown brand during a time of brand-logo mania and when there were department stores and lots of people downtown.
Local kids saved allowances and begged their parents for the shirts. An elementary school had a Charly B day. The shirts popped up in spots across the country, though they were sold only in Kitsap.

And a recent report from the Center for Public Integrity shows that the 25 largest originators of subprime mortgages, the risky loans some say are at the heart of the recent financial crisis, spent over $370 million in Washington fighting against regulation. The report also found that at least 21 of the 25 ventures were either backed or owned by banks now receiving bailout money. Senator Durbin recently introduced a bill with Senator Arlen Specter to create a voluntary public financing system for members of Congress. So heaven opened up long enough yesterday for me to take the below video. But I've got to say that a little later on yesterday it started to hail, and man did it hail. It eventually turned to rain and as with the hail it really came down.
The video is of my yard and the trees in it. One of my projects is the clearing of the dead branches in the various trees as well as raising (clearing) the height of the low hanging branches.
Over the years the brush has grown up to the point that I can't see my street anymore.
Starting next week there will be some changes taking place but that's not the big "SPECIAL PROJECT" . . . for that dear reader you'll have to wait til next week.

In her Daily Beast column, Meghan McCain writes about Bristol Palin's campaign for abstinence and how it relates to a general lack of honesty within the Republican party when it comes to safe sex.
Let me get something straight: Bristol Palin, as an eighteen-year-old adult, is free to make her own choices and decide how she wants her life to unfold. But for whatever reasons, the American public and media remain overly engrossed in our politicians' sex lives and, as in this case, those of their families. There's an especially unhealthy attitude among conservatives. Daughters of Republican politicians aren't expected to have sex, let alone enjoy it--as if there were some strange chastity belt automatically attached to us female offspring. God forbid anyone talk realistically about life experiences and natural, sexual instincts. Nope, the answer is always abstinence.
The more I hear from John McCain's daughter the more I like her. The problem for her is that because she uses her brain she won't ever be excepted by the right.

I wanted to have some photos for today's post about what I'm going to do in my yard, but the weather turned and it started to rain like crazy so I couldn't take the photos. I'll try again today. Dick Durbin's (D-IL) "cram-down" amendment - which would rewrite bankruptcy law to allow judges to renegotiate mortgages with banks - was rejected 45-51 by the Senate. Twelve Democratic senators voted against the bill, after furious lobbying from the mortgage and banking sectors. The financial sector had funneled millions into the coffers of Democratic senators who voted nay, leading Durbin to decry that banks "own" Congress. This weekend, on the Bill Maher Show, Maher suggested to Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA) that progressive Democrats fighting against moneyed interests form a new party: "Let's be honest, the Democratic party, starting in the 90's, also became the party of business and Wall Street. So what we really need is another party that's the progressive party." There is little question that the mortgage crisis remains dire. U.S. foreclosure rates for March were at record levels — the number of households that received a foreclosure filing was more than 12 percent higher than the next highest month on record. One in every 159 U.S. housing units received a foreclosure filing during the quarter. According to many analysts, foreclosure rates are expected to nearly double this year.
Just as his first 100 days passes, President Obama unveiled plans to extend mortgage relief to Americans' second mortgages. At the same time the Senate rejected a measure supported by the President which would have allow bankruptcy judges to modify mortgages, and thus potentially save thousands of people from foreclosure and eviction. The measure was strongly opposed by the financial services industry. Community organizer Steve Meacham of City Life/Vida Urbana is fighting on the frontlines of the foreclosure crisis. Meacham and his colleagues at City Life employ a community organizing strategy they call the The "shield" is a strategy of legal defense: teaching City Life members about their rights under the law, plus providing access to volunteer legal assistance. The "sword" is a public relations strategy, where City Life organizes protests in front of banks, and eviction blockades in front of people's homes. For these protests, City Life tries to attract as much media attention as possible, trying to draw public scrutiny towards what they argue are unfair banking and eviction practices in their community. "We find that the two [strategies] work extremely well in combination," says Meacham. He says that a strong legal defense often isn't enough to avoid eviction. "A legal defense is not enough because in Massachusetts the banks can evict you for no reason.
