We lost the Tunnel battle as we surly will this Bailout effort. The tunnel being built to divert ferry traffic off downtown streets will cost the city about $17,000 a year to maintain, it was reported last week. The total bill for maintaining the one-way, 959-foot, $50 million tunnel will be $58,000 a year, Williams said, with the state paying the remaining $41,000. Alaska HAD it's Bridge To Nowhere, Bremerton has it's GOLDEN TUNNEL TO NOWHERE. There is NO JOY in this Post. * - - - - - * Michael Moore had a few words about this Bailout Plan:Let me cut to the chase. Bush president in 2000, Gramm stuck something called the Commodity Futures Modernization Act into the budget bill. Nobody knew that the Texas senator was slipping America a 262 page poison pill. The Gramm Guts America Act was designed to keep regulators from controlling new financial tools described as credit "swaps." These are instruments like sub-prime mortgages bundled up and sold as securities. Under the Gramm law, neither the SEC nor the Commodities Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) were able to examine financial institutions like hedge funds or investment banks to guarantee they had the assets necessary to cover losses they were guaranteeing. And Senator Phil Gramm wanted it completely unregulated. So did Alan Greenspan, who supported the legislation and is now running around to the talk shows jabbering about the horror of it all. Before the highly paid lobbyists were done slinging their gold card guts about the halls of congress, every one from hedge funds to banks were playing with fire for fun and profit. These, then, are the people -- the Republicans -- who want to run our government for four more years. John McCain isn't just one of them. He rides their jets. He takes their campaign donations. He makes them his campaign advisors. And he tells us to trust him. He must think we are a nation of village idiots. Hell, maybe we are. The K9 is Brutus, a military K9 at McChord. He's huge - part Boxer and part British Bull Mastiff and tops the scales at 200 lbs. His handler took the picture. Brutus is running toward me because he knows I have some Milk Bone treats, so he's slobbering away! I had to duck around a tree just before he got to me in case he couldn't stop, but he did.
Brutus won the Congressional Medal of Honor last year from his tour in Iraq. His handler and four other soldiers were taken hostage by insurgents. Brutus and his handler communicate by sign language and he gave Brutus the signal that meant 'go away but come back and find me'. The Iraqis paid no attention to Brutus. He came back later and quietly tore the throat out of one guard at one door and another guard at another door. He then jumped against one of the doors repeatedly (the guys were being held in an old warehouse) until it opened. He went in and untied his handler and they all escaped. The auto industry this week begins a hectic push to get Congress to fund $25 billion in promised loan guarantees. Some in the industry even hope for an additional $25 billion.
The energy bill Congress passed in December mandated a 40% increase in fuel-economy standards by 2020 and provided for $25 billion of loan guarantees to help automakers and suppliers upgrade plants for new, fuel-efficient technology and vehicles. But lawmakers have not yet approved money for them - $3.8 billion for the upfront costs of the initial $25 billion in loan guarantees.
I don't think congress should do anything without FIRST making sure that the current management step down WITH OUT THE GOLDEN PARCHUTE.

I went over to my daughters yesterday for what they call a baby dedication. That was the first time I had been in a Christian church that had a band up on the alter. We all sat right up front and boy was that a mistake. When they started the service that band hit it and sure got my attention. I thought I was back in my youth and at the "BATTLE OF THE BANDS." I couldn't take it and so I went outside for awhile. When it was time for the dedication the gal that was playing the keyboard got her turn and played music more to my liking. . . soothing and quiet. It was great. There were about 6 or 7 families dedicating their children. They called them all up to the front to bless each of them. They had me and other family and friends come up as well. I must say I DONE GOOD. Yesterday CNN's Campbell Brown interviews MCSAME aid Tucker Bounds about the selection of Sara Palin as his VP choice. MCSAME got mad and cancelled an interview on Larry King scheduled later that night. If I ran CNN I'd not have MCSAME on any show for the next two weeks. He is just being a BUTT and a cry baby. One other thing that I've heard over and over by the republicans and that is whenever a question about Palin is asked that they don't like they say that "that comment is offensive". Sarah Palin employed a lobbying firm to secure almost $27 million in federal earmarks for a town of 6,700 residents while she was its mayor, according to an analysis by an independent government watchdog group. In introducing Palin as his running mate on Friday, Sen. John McCain cast her as a compatriot in his battle against wasteful federal spending. McCain, the Republican presidential candidate, hailed Palin as a politician "with an outstanding reputation for standing up to special interests and entrenched bureaucracies -- someone who has fought against corruption and the failed policies of the past, someone who's stopped government from wasting taxpayers' money." McCain's crusade against earmarks -- federal spending sought by members of Congress to benefit specific projects -- has been a hallmark of his campaign. He has said earmarks are wasteful and are often inserted into bills with little oversight, sometimes by a single powerful lawmaker. Palin has also railed against earmarks, touting her opposition to a $223 million bridge in the state as a prime credential for the vice presidential nomination. "As governor, I've stood up to the old politics-as-usual, to the special interests, to the lobbyists, the big oil companies, and the good-ol'-boy network," she said Friday. As mayor of Wasilla, however, Palin oversaw the hiring of Robertson, Monagle & Eastaugh, an Anchorage-based law firm with close ties to Alaska's most senior Republicans: Rep. Don Young and Sen. Ted Stevens, who was indicted in July on charges of accepting illegal gifts. The Wasilla account was handled by the former chief of staff to Stevens, Steven W. Silver, who is a partner in the firm. Palin was elected mayor of Wasilla in 1996 on a campaign theme of "a time for change." According to a review of congressional spending by Taxpayers for Common Sense, a nonpartisan watchdog group in Washington, Wasilla did not receive any federal earmarks in the first few years of Palin's tenure. Senate records show that Silver's firm began working for Palin in early 2000, just as federal money began flowing. In fiscal 2000, Wasilla received a $1 million earmark, tucked into a transportation appropriations bill, for a rail and bus project in the town. And in the winter of 2000, Palin appeared before congressional appropriations committees to seek earmarks, according to a report in the Anchorage Daily News.
