LOOKING BACK AND REMEMBERING

TIME TO REMEMBER, CAN YOU REMEMBER

Buz, Mick and Jim at Buz's wedding

BUZ11.JPG

I wanted to add my perspective to the story of James L. Prichard's life so I asked my sister Dolores to send me the article that would be put in the paper.

These articles are usually short snap shots of a persons life that can't by there nature and space provide a full picture of the person. I certainly don't think that I'll do much better here but I want to try. I truly loved my brother-in-law. Here we go.

James L. Prichard passed away on August 28, 2007. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Dolores. Think about that 51 years. With the divorce rate some place around 50%, they held it together. You have to admire that in both of them. They raised four beautiful girls Lisa, Betsy, Mary (the neighbor kid) and Jill.

He leaves behind five grandchildren. Cristan and Kelly Bolster (Lisa and Cory). Dillon Day and Emily Leonard (Betsy Prichard). And Savannah Hilt (Mary and Cary). He dearly loved his family and was blessed to have many special friends.

Funny how you know somebody for so many years but it is only after he passes away that you learn he was born in Seattle. I guess I assumed that since he grew up in Bremerton he was born here. Anyway, he was born on March 5, 1931 making him 76 years when he passed away.

He lived here in Bremerton and went to Bremerton High (not sure if it was East or West Bremerton) but he graduated in 1950. He went on to Olympic College 1950 - 1952. Went in to the Air Force and after that started working for Boeing and married my sister.

My earliest recollection of Jim was many years ago when I and I guess we all were just kids. Jim was in the Air Force at the time and dating Dolores. Jim was honorably discharged after serving four years in the United States Air Force.

Jim's greatest passion was for basketball which he played for 65 years up until last year. I remember years ago when Jim played ball for Westside Ford. I went with him and Dolores to many of his games for Westside. Dolores reminded me that he played with Elgin Baylor before Elgin went on to greatness at Seattle University. I'd forgotten that.

He played in the senior league for many years, I don't know how he did it. Jim was short by basketball standards but what he lacked in height he made up in with his superior ball handling, speed and passing ability. Jim also enjoyed a good round of golf.

Jim had a great sense of humor. I would use many of his e-mails in my BLOG especially the cartoons. I'll miss that. In many ways Jim's humor was very close to mine. He saw the absurdity in some of the things people do, but he also saw the humor. He was great.

Jim worked at The Boeing Company for 35 years. I'm not certain what he started out doing at Boeing but he managed to worked his way up the ladder moving up into management for most of that time.

Jim considered himself to be a very fortunate person. I consider myself a very fortunate person knowing Jim and spending time with him over the years. I'll miss his imitation of my dad calling me, he would go "MMMMmickeyYYYYY" (I loved it). I consider him not just my brother-in law but my friend.

Jim's memorial service will be held on September 8, 2007, from 1-3:30pm at the Museum of Flight, 9404 E. Marginal Way S.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to:

PS: Way up in the top of this article I said "They raised four beautiful girls Lisa, Betsy, Mary (the neighbor kid) and Jill."

I put in the line "the neighbor kid" after Mary's name. There is a little story behind that. It was funny at the time and I still think about it once in awhile.

My family and I lived in San Diego for about 6-7 years and during that time we saw our extended families only for short periods of time during vacation trips home. Before we moved back home I flew up for a job interview and took the opportunity to spend a weekend with Dolores and Jim before I went back to San Diego.

As I said it was about 7 years that I lived in California so I didn't get to see the Prichard girls grow up during that time. When I got to their house and the girls came in from play they all said hi. When Mary came in I didn't recognize her and said "Are you the neighbor kid."

It was funny at the time. . . really it was. I still like it.

SAYING GOODBYE

Where have all the flowers gone

082807_jim_p.jpg

Yesterday I received a phone call I knew was coming but wished I'd never get. It was from my niece Jill. She had the unpleasant task of calling me to let me know her father and my brother-in-law Jim had passed away.

You may recall I had asked for your prayers and I wish to thank you all for them. I know in my heart they helped and that Jim is now in heaven playing a basketball game with my brother Buzz right now.

Back in 2001 when my brother died Jim sent me an Eulogy for Buzz which I put on my Web site. Click here to see the complete Eulogy. I liked the Introduction that Jim wrote and much of it applies to him as well so I post it here.

An Eulogy for: Frank D. Horan (BUZ) By Jim Prichard, September 22, 2001

INTRODUCTION:

First I would like to express the families grateful compliments to Dr. Manhouse and the Providence Staff for the outstanding and enduring effort they put forth to help Buz survive, they are very saddened by his passing.

I want to share with you the celebration of this good life.

Buz was a Catholic and a man of faith, Tho he was not a frequent church goer.

Our friend is gone but his good memory will be with us for the balance of our lives.

I also want you to know how grateful we are that he was willing to spend time with us at dinners and the like, even tho his energy was diminished.

My image of Buz is this man with a fresh, clean, handsome, boyish, Irish look about him all connected to a bright smile. He by the way was very proud of being Irish

What I liked about this was how much Jim was talking from his heart. He and Buzz got along famously, and the fact is the very traits Jim says Buzz had are the same traits Jim had and has always shared with the rest of the family.

I've said it before but now I shout it out load JIM I LOVE YOU and hope one day I will see you and Buzz in heaven too.

Another rightwing republican bites the dust in a Public Bathroom.

These guys need to figure this crap out. This time it was Senator Larry Craig.

I could care less if these folks are gay or not. What I don't get is in their public life they are against all things gay yet they themselves seem to be gay. Reminds me of the mayor of Spokane a year or so ago.

LOST A DAY IN DISK SPACE

I fought a disk space (or lack of disk space) problem all day yesterday trying to get this post up. I even lost a few days of posts, that's why you'll see REDO in the title.

I'm hoping to move to GoDaddy for my Hosting Service. They provide 200 gb disk space vs. 1.5 gb here. Plus you can talk to a REAL LIVE PERSON if you have a problem. At my current service it's all done via the keyboard. The final point is that GoDaddy is cheaper.

Sounds like a win-win-win to me.

OBAMA'S TAKE ON EXPERIENCE

082307_obama.jpg * *

So all the presidential candidates, republican or democrat say they have the experience to be the president while Senator Obama does not.

Barack Obama explains his take on experience in this add.

MY, MY HOW THEY LOVE TO LIE

082307_michelle_obama.jpg

If you saw this headline yesterday in the paper: "If you can't run your own house, you can't run the White House." . . . Michelle Obama Speech. "It most likely was followed by a statement like this:"This could be interpreted as an attack on the Clintons." The problem is that the reporter did some creative editing by cutting off the context or punch line if you will.

I've talked about this several times in the past especially about Bill O'Reilly because he loves to take things out of context all the time. So read that quote once more: "If you can't run your own house, you can't run the White House." . . . Michelle Obama Speech. " Now read what she really said in full context:

That one of the most important things that we need to know about the next President of the United States is, is he somebody that shares our values? Is he somebody that respects family? Is a good and decent person? So our view was that, if you can't run your own house, you certainly can't run the White House. So, so we've adjusted our schedules to make sure that our girls are first, so while he's traveling around, I do day trips. That means I get up in the morning, I get the girls ready, I get them off, I go and do trips, I'm home before bedtime. So the girls know that I was gone somewhere, but they don't care. They just know that I was at home to tuck them in at night, and it keeps them grounded, and, and children, the children in our country have to know that they come first. And our girls do and that's why we're doing this. We're in this race for not just our children, but all of our children.

"The only family Mrs. Obama was referring to was the Obama family."

SOME BOOTS ON THE GROUND SPEAK UP

Over the weekend 8 enlisted men wrote an Op-Ed piece for the New York Times. Here is an just the opening paragraph of their article.

VIEWED from Iraq at the tail end of a 15-month deployment, the political debate in Washington is indeed surreal. Counterinsurgency is, by definition, a competition between insurgents and counterinsurgents for the control and support of a population. To believe that Americans, with an occupying force that long ago outlived its reluctant welcome, can win over a recalcitrant local population and win this counterinsurgency is far-fetched. As responsible infantrymen and noncommissioned officers with the 82nd Airborne Division soon heading back home, we are skeptical of recent press coverage portraying the conflict as increasingly manageable and feel it has neglected the mounting civil, political and social unrest we see every day. (Obviously, these are our personal views and should not be seen as official within our chain of command.)

As you can see they are very critical of our being in Iraq and these are guys that have lived there for 15 months not for just a few days.

I STILL NEED YOUR PRAYERS

jim_01.jpg

Yesterday I went over to see my sister and brother-in-law Dolores and Jim. I asked for your prayers back on the 11th because Jim is fighting cancer. After talking with my sister it seems that it is just a matter of time and Jim will find peace.

I was not able to muster up the courage to go into the bedroom where Jim was resting. I feel bad about that. I don't know why I can't do that. I admire people that have that inside themselves.

I couldn't do it when my Dad died and I couldn't do it when my mother-in-law passed away. With my mom it was different she was in the Hospital and was scheduled to go home the next day. I had gone to the Hospital that evening to visit with her and she seemed to be doing fine and was looking forward to going home the next day. It turns out she passed on later that night.

When I got home and was all alone, I cried and that was all I could do.

I love you Jim.

STICKS AND STONES MAY BREAK MY BONES BUT WORDS WILL NEVER HURT ME

081707_NOW_1.jpg

Do you remember that saying I used in the title above "Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me." Well it turns out it's wrong. Words can and do hurt you.

SO CHECK YOUR HOME OWNERS INSURANCE NOW!

Hey Mick have you gone off the deep end? What's this CRAP about home owners insurance. Ok, I do need to explain it and here goes.

Last Friday on the TV show NOW (PBS) they did a show on the terrible wild fires in Southern California a couple of years ago where over 2000 houses were destroyed. Many people are still trying to get their houses rebuilt and their lives back in order.

If you didn't see this program I'm showing it here over the next 5 days.

The reason for the title I used in this Post relate to how words like "GUARANTEED REPLACEMENT" and "EXTENDED REPLACEMENT" effect you. Just looking at them both you might think they mean about the same thing. You would be DEAD WRONG as you'll learn in this video.

Michael Moore talked about this wordsmithing in his latest movie SiCKO as it's used in Health Care and now we see the same thing in Homeowners Insurance.

Watch this series and then check YOUR Home Owners Insurance for this Extended Replacement verbiage and also the AMOUNT of your Insurance on your house. Is it enough and will it cover your loss.

Ford tries to justify his appearance on FOX NOISE by bashing the Daily Kos BLOG. I don't think it worked or was effective.

SO YOU THINK FOX IS FAIR AND BALANCED

I was so happy when the democrats pulled out of the FOX DEBATE. I've seen how they operate and it isn't necessarily on the show they appear on, it can and often is on other follow up shows. They all work together.

Here is a sample of just how the FOX NOISE MACHINE can trash the democrats. In this example it's John Edwards.

Listen to Bill O'Reilly just lie and lie and lie.

LET THE LYING BEGIN HERE

081507_BO_nit.jpg

In keeping with the theme of today's LYING, LIARS at FOX NOISE, there is no liar as big as Bill O'Reilly. Even when he is caught red handed he just can't say he made a mistake, apologize and move on. . . oh no he starts off by saying "a bit of nit picking".

Listen to his answer to this email question.

*

*

HE JUST NEVER STOPS

081307_BO_most.jpg

On one of his earlier segments he said "a new poll said that most Americans won't vote for you if you get an endorsement from a gay rights group."

He just can't seem to tell the WHOLE TRUTH. It's one of the little tricks he plays so that the data agrees with him.

First listen to what he said and then see the real complete answer in the next post below.

*

*

WE REPORT YOU DECIDE

081507_BO_poll.jpg

So now we come full circle. He gets a email that challenges his interpretation of the poll he talked about above.

He reads the letter, shows the poll and says NOTHING. Which is unbelievable. No taking of responsibility for having mislead his views. The results of that Poll tells me that it DOESN'T MAKE A DIFFERENCE which any reasonable (oh yea we're talking about Bill-O) person given the above facts would say BILLY JUST TRIED TO SNOOKER them.

And so it is we come full circle. They LIE at FOX and just don't care.

WHO WOULD HAVE THUNK IT

081407_chinese_car.jpg

If all goes according to plan, by 2009 you could be sticking it to Big Oil by driving an all electric, Chinese-made sedan for little more than the cost of a Camry.

Electric cars are nothing new. But until now they've either been very expensive to produce or, if not that, then small and relatively slow - little more than glorified golf carts.

The Founder of Miles Automotive Group says the XS 500 has a top speed of 80 miles per hour and a range of 120 miles at 60 miles per hour. That's about as fast as GM's late-90s era electric car, the EV 1. And the XS 500 will be a lot cheaper to produce, the company says.

Both the low cost and the high range can be attributed to China, where low labor costs keep the price down and state-sponsored research into battery technology yielded what Rubin said was an advanced lithium ion power pack produced by Lishen Battery.

Plug the car into a normal wall socket and, according to company literature, six hours later you've got a full charge.

Have we just gone nuts in this country that we can't seem todo anything right anymore. We continue to built big SUV's and don't seem to think times are changing. I hope we wake up soon.

On Meet The Press Harold Ford, Jr. Chairman, Democratic Leadership Council Former Congressman, (D-TN) and Markos Moulitsas Founder and Editor, DailyKos.com Co-Author, "Crashing the Gate: Netroots, Grassroots, and the Rise of People-Powered Politics".

Starting today and for the next 4 days I'll run the interview. It was an interesting discussion although I would have liked to hear more about why Ford feels the need to go on FOX NOISE to bash the Daily Kos. Seems to me that doesn't build bridges and it just gives FOX more reason to bash the democrats.

MEET THE PRESS

081207_debate.jpg

Today on Meet The Press Harold Ford, Jr. Chairman, Democratic Leadership Council Former Congressman, (D-TN) and Markos Moulitsas Founder and Editor, DailyKos.com Co-Author, "Crashing the Gate: Netroots, Grassroots, and the Rise of People-Powered Politics".

With the White House in their sights, Democrats are having an internal political fight over the direction of their party and how best to win in 2008. Today they will debate that issue.

It seems to me this so called dust up between the YearlyKos and the DLC needs to layout the differences between the two. Like a Platform so we can all see why there is a fight between these two groups of democrats.

It was Lincoln that said: "A house divided against itself cannot stand" and that sure makes sense to me. I feel that it's the democrats election to lose in 2008 and I don't want to see that happen.

I just downloaded the DLC Opportunity in the 21st Century, a Congressional Agenda. It looks very professional and well done. I haven't looked at it in depth yet but from what I see it's a start.

Now if only the YearlyKos would do the same so folks like me can understand what all the talking (typing) is about. I'll watch Meet The Press today and hope I can get a feel for the differences. Not sure how much I'll get out of a 20-30 minute discussion but this too will be a start.

YARD WORK TOMORROW

081107_back_yard.jpg

Tomorrow I'm starting to work on my yard around my family room. There is a very big cedar tree there and so the grass won't grow. It's the place where my dog can pretend they are pigs and lay in the dirt and then bring all that dust into the house.

I've decide to put cedar chips down like a play yard in the hope it will help keep the dust down in the house. We'll see.

I made this video to have a before view of what it looks like and I'll do the same after it's done.

COME SAY A PRAYER

I NEED YOUR HELP

jim_01.jpg

My brother-in-law is fighting cancer and I'm asking everyone that reads this Blog to say a prayer for Jim today and when ever you can.

I guess I've known Jim for over 50 years. He's one of the nicest guys you could image. He's always fun to be around and has a quick smile to make you feel welcome and at ease.

He loves basketball and has many games under his belt having played in High School, semi-pro in Seattle, with his girls on the playground and on into the senior league.

He's a slim and trim guy and I know he can and will beat this thing.

I love you Jim.

TONY SNOW

I saw this on Countdown last night and while I disagree with much of what Tony Snow says as a spokesman for the White House, my heart goes out to him and his struggle with cancer as well.

Please say a pray for Tony and watch this short interview. I think it will touch you as it did me.

TAXES

080907_HB_taxes.jpg

Chris Matthews does it again. He is amazed that the country thinks that the democrats are the best party to deal with taxes.

Well DUH has he looked at the National Debt lately for GODS SAKE?

National Debt: 8,944,301,567,596.79

Trade Deficit: 451,380,862,879.51

WAR in Iraq : 450,755,381,289.00

Looking at the above figures is he nuts to think anyone could do a worse job in managing our money.

He uses that same TIRED BULLSHIT LINE about the Democrats "Liking bigger Government, Spending more money and Raising more taxes." While the republicans like "Lower Taxes."

Chris got caught in changing what the DAMN POLL said and he tried to blow it away with only the stupid logic of his stupid brain.

Why is it such a great idea to use a CREDIT CARD vs. PAY AS YOU GO. Chris has no clue. He's still trying to figure out how John Edwards does his hair, or how much Cleavage Hillary has.

HERE WE GO AGAIN

080807_nets.jpg

Why is so damn hard for these journalist to tell the truth? And why is there no fact checking going on by the editors/producers?

Over the past week or so this NY Times story "We just might win the war in Iraq" by Michael O'Hanlon and Keith Pollack got major play on TV and radio.

Pollack: CBS Evening News, CNN Newsroom, CNN Evening News, CNN Situation Room, MSNBC Tucker and NPR Talk of the Nation.

O'Hanlon: CBS Early Show, CBS Evening News, Fox News Special Report and MSNBC Hardball

O'Hanlon and Pollack: Fox News Sunday

Where you aware that national security analyst Anthony Cordesman went to Iraq with O'Hanlon and Pollack, and reached a strikingly different conclusion. The Center for Strategic and International Studies said yesterday.

Here's a list of the media outlets that have covered it, according to a Google news and Nexis search:

CNN, Agence France Press and UPI

Yep -- one major network.

I don't remember the site I got this quote from but will update it when I find it.

Really, it's worth stepping back and pondering just how unprofessional and dysfunctional the media's performance has been on this story to date. It starts with The Times's editors, who actually allowed these two to con the paper's readers into forgetting their unflagging support for the invasion and the surge, letting them get away with describing themselves only as war critics. That embarrassing flub then colored virtually all the coverage that followed. Because of it, the big news orgs persuaded themselves that there was something counterintuitive about their conclusion -- and proceeded to report, in one outlet after another, that these war "critics" had suddenly found reason to be hopeful.

Now we have a story that's genuinely counterintuitive -- that is, that a companion of the two went along and reached very different, and far more pessimistic, conclusions about the prospects for success in Iraq. Not only is this counterintuitive, but there's also conflict here, too -- Cordesman flags his disagreement with his esteemed colleagues in the first paragraph of his synopsis. This also puts Cordesman at odds with the White House, which relentlessly flacked O'Hanlon and Pollack's findings. And the media response to Cordesman thus far? Virtual silence.

I'm told that some reporters have inquired about the report, so things may change; I really hope they do. As of now, however, the silence that has greeted Cordesman's far more detailed report -- from the same news orgs that gave exceptionally generous, and outright misleading, coverage to O'Hanlon and Pollack's optimism about Iraq -- stands as a sad, though perhaps fittingly pathetic, postscript to this whole affair.

So there it is they continue to lie.

SUPPORT THIS WAR

080907_JS_mittboys.jpg

Mitt Romney and his boys are fighting for you.

In Bettendorf, Iowa, Rachel Griffiths is an antiwar activist whose brother, an Army major, is also an Iraq veteran. When this 41-year-old woman asked our prettiest former governor why none of his picturesque sons have opted for the front lines, Mitt flashed that 10,000-watt smile and proceeded to blow her off.

"The good news," Mitt said, "is that we have a volunteer army. My sons are all adults and they've made their decisions about their careers, and they've chosen not to serve in the military."

If he had left it at that, Mitt might not have made it to the top of Jon Stewart's hypocrisy hit parade on "The Daily Show" Wednesday night. But Mitt couldn't resist the invitation to get cute.

Mitt eventually told Rachel Griffiths that Tag, Biff, Zip, Bud and Lex were serving America by canvassing the cornfields of Iowa in a Winnebago, "showing support for our country (by) helping me get elected because they think I'd be a great president."

He should have just kept his mouth shut. Getting smarmy about such a question only confirms what many of us already know, and the rest of the country is bound to find out: Mitt is one very attractive and empty vessel.

Watch this for their "CHENEY REASONS" for not joining up and really supporting the troops like they say on their BUMPER STICKERS and their waving of the flag.

WHAT'S WRONG WITH AMERICA

080807_CD_wrong.jpg

The other night during the AFL/CIO Debate one question stood out above all the others. It spoke to a problem that face millions of Americans.

My heart went out to the speaker because he spoke the truth honestly with out a bunch of BULLSHIT.

I've talked about what has been going on with these companies USING the bankruptcy laws to cut their obligations at the same time giving the CEO million dollar bonuses.

I don't understand why these retirement plans are not put into a LOCKED BOX. It's a business deal that should be honored.

Health Care needs to be fixed. I'm a good example of what a good health care plan can do. As I've talked about before I had open heart surgery last October running up thousands of dollars in medical bills. I have never paid a dime for that operation and hospital stay my medicare and KPS covered it.

AND THAT'S THE MEMO

Bill O'Reilly continues to make a fool of himself with this attack on The Daily KOS.

I've been reading the KOS for a long time and can honestly say this site is not any different than many that I read including my own. I use language sometimes that I know is heated but it's not line after line after line.

If you go back and listen to O'Reilly my god you would think that every other word and image was a four letter word. It's not. It's not even close.

Billy suggesting that by attending the Yearly KOS meeting will hurt the dems is just crazy. What he's really pissed about is the fact that the dems have decided not to go on FOX for their debate. I agree with that. The FOX NOISE Machine will bash the dems even during the debate if they attended. They do it in little ways.
