THE MESS
TERROR ALL AROUND US
RUDY, RUDY, RUDY. . .
Rudy Giuliani needs to take some time off. He seems to be losing it.
By Dan Balz . . . Washington Post The former mayor told his GOP audience that the United States will ultimately win the campaign against global terrorism, regardless of whether the president is Democratic or Republican. But he warned that the election of a Democrat could be costly in terms of lives and the length of time it will take to succeed. "We're going to win that war whether there's a Republican president or a Democratic president or any other president," he said. "The question is going to be: How long does it take and how many losses will we have along the way? And I truly believe that if we go back on defense for a period of time, we're going to ultimately have more losses and it's going to go on much longer." At another point in his speech, Giuliani noted that what his prospective Democratic rivals are saying about national security and terrorism should worry voters as they weigh their choices for 2008. "If one of them gets elected, it sounds to me like we're going on the defense," he said. "We've got a timetable for withdrawal from Iraq. We're going to wave the white flag there. We're going to try to cut back on the Patriot Act. We're going to cut back on electronic surveillance. We're going to cut back on interrogation. We're going to cut back, cut back, cut back, and we'll be back in our pre-September 11 mentality of being on defense." Former senator John Edwards (D-N.C.) said Giuliani's "suggestion that there is some superior 'Republican' way to fight terrorism is both divisive and plain wrong. He knows better." Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) accused Giuliani of taking "the politics of fear to a new low" and predicted that Americans will reject such rhetoric. "We know we can win this war based on shared purpose, not the same divisive politics that question your patriotism if you dare to question failed policies that have made us less secure." Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) picked up on Giuliani's focus on the threats from violent extremists, but she said the record of the Bush administration has proved "that political rhetoric won't do anything to quell those threats." "One of the great tragedies of this administration is that the president failed to keep this country unified after 9/11," she said. "We have to protect our country from terrorism -- it shouldn't be a Democratic fight or a Republican fight."
What the hell is he talking about? As I recall IT WAS ON HIS WATCH that the Twin Towers came down and now he's saying the dems will make you unsafe. What kind of spin is that?
Check out the chart above. I find it interesting that if you just look at the TREND since 2000, the same period of time that George Bush has been in office seems to be up. Why is that do you suppose? Just doesn't seem to be a way of SPINNING THAT.
Clicking on the image below you will see where these attacks took place during 2007. I've said it before and say it now we don't need an Army in Iraq to fight terror we need WORLD WIDE cooperation, good intelligence and a STRONG SECURITY SYSTEM all working together.

PRETTY GOOD JOKES
THERE IS BEAUTY IN EVERYTHING
HUMMMMMMM. . .
My Hummingbirds are back. I put out my feeder about 2 weeks ago and within an hour they found it. I think there are two of these fast moving guys that enjoy the syrup in the feeder.
They are so damn fast I'm having trouble getting a picture. See if you can spot on in this picture. Hint: You need to look in the background in the trees. Sorry I'll try again.
PICNIC TABLE
I'm not sure what it is about this picnic table but Jada and Sweet love laying on it. Sweet has always enjoyed using even when she was a pup. I guess it's because they can get a better view of the backyard.

GREAT QUOTES
Al Gore had a particularly lively exchange with right-wing Rep. Joe Barton (R-Texas), who rejects the science on global warming.
Gore told him, "The planet has a fever. If your baby has a fever, you go to the doctor. If the doctor says, 'You have to intervene here,' you don't say, 'Well, I read a science fiction novel that says this isn't important."

BTW, what good is a picnic table if you can't lay on it?

TURNING THE PAGE
IN LOVING MEMORY OF BILLY
Thanks Karen
I wish to close this chapter of my life and move forward knowing as my daughter said "even though you only had Billy just under a year they become instant children and you love them so much no matter how long you have them." And that was so true of Billy.
She went on to say "But Billy is happy in doggy heaven now and you know all of his hip problems are gone and he is running free!" which is also true.
Several readers of this Blog also sent me notes which I will treasure as well. The image above and the poem below will stay with me and Billy.
I also want to thank my daughter-in-law Amy and her mom Kathy for coming over to help me with Billy. Their kindness and understanding touched my heart and I will always remember it.
My son checked in on me to make sure I was ok and I can only tell him how nice that was.
Finally to Diane she was so kind and understanding I'll always remember that.
Thanks to you all.
THEY MIGHT BE LAZY

I didn't have Billy for long about 10-11 months but he was a sweet heart. I fell in love with him right off the bat. He had such a sweet face and he loved it when I would rub his nose.
Billy was old when I got him and I knew I wouldn't have much time with him but I thought maybe 2-3 years at least. I was wrong.
Billy had problems with his hind legs. But if I went out in the back yard and walked along the fence which outlines my property Billy was right there with me. It was nice because with his bad legs and my bad legs we made a pair and could keep up with each other.
Sweet is my golden and I was right on when I picked her name. She is the sweetest most patient of all my kids. Buddy is a rescue dog that I've had for about five years now. He's a really nice kid but is more independent than is Sweet. If he doesn't want to play he'll let you know.
Jada is my newest. She is a ball of fire and full of energy. It's a good thing Sweet is as low key as she is because Jada would wear out almost any other dog.
Jada is smart enough to know that she better not mess with Buddy although she still tries but since she is so fast can stay out of the reach of Buddy.
Jada seemed to love Billy too because even with her high energy she didn't use it on Billy. She loved to give him kisses tho.
As I said I didn't get as much time with Billy as I wanted but I think we had some good quality time. I know in my heart I did the right thing. He's in a better place now.
I love you Billy and will keep you in my heart forever.

THE MESS
WHAT IS THE PROBLEM WITH CHRIS MATTHEWS (Part 4 of 4)
Are ya still with me on this Matthews guy. Here is the final chapter on this sad journalist.
IT'S THE STUPIDITY, STUPID!
On the other hand, it's easy to say this; Imus's program was endlessly dumb. Indeed, if we could wave a magic wand and steal one arrow from the media's quiver, we'd rob them of their relentless stupidity-the trait which Atrios highlights. (Case study: This brainless report from Sunday's Style section about why Al Gore is so god-d*mn fat. They never stop this sort of thing-and yes, they're very selective.) Most of the race- and gender-based insults would disappear under this regime. But so much else would disappear too! Let's face it; if TV pundits weren't allowed to be stupid, they'd pretty much have to go off the air. We'd start to return to an earlier age, in which voters were told what the candidates said and left to form their own judgments. In our view, liberals, centrists and intelligent conservatives would be wise to focus on the stupidity. In truth, there isn't a whole lot of blatant "racism" in our political discourse (though there's some). But the stupidity is constant-and it's widely accepted. (Listen up, people! Mars is warming!) In yesterday's long Meet the Press session on Imus, this problem was never mentioned. Nor did anyone wonder if it's OK to call major public figures "Satan" (never any real sign of joking there), or if it was OK to say that Gore is the world's most evil person. Imus said that for years (no sign of joking). Then he'd wonder if the sunspots were driving global warming. Stupidity has driven our discourse for years, making a joke of our national interests. It was all over Imus' air. Only Frank Rich didn't know this.
To me this is the key line. "Let's face it; if TV pundits weren't allowed to be stupid, they'd pretty much have to go off the air." It's something I've felt for a long time. You know that did it to Gore, they did it to Kerry and they sure as hell did it to Dean. What BASTARDS.

TRY OUTS AT MSNBC
I don't know how long or how many people are going to be trying out their show on MSNBC in the morning that will fill the slot previously held by Imus in the Morning. But so for they kicked it off with THE MICHAEL SMERCONISH SHOW.
He's a right leaning guy. I don't know enough to say he's a wingding yet. I do know that this morning he was using DRUDGE as his source on two issues he was talking about. That's not a good sign. DRUDGE is his source when he has the resources of NBC/MSNBC what's with that???
NOW THEY ARE GETTING SMART
Nationally-syndicated talk show host Stephanie Miller is a rising star in morning radio. Her fresh and funny show is on dozens of radio stations across the country, including in Los Angeles where she is now the #2 rated talk program in her time period** (source: Jones Radio Networks / Arbitron). The Stephanie Miller Show is on the air in Miami, Seattle, San Francisco, Chicago, and Washington, D.C. plus many other cities nationwide.
Stephanie has hosted local radio shows on KABC and KFI in Los Angeles and is a former co-host of CNBC's "Equal Time" as the liberal counterweight to Bay Buchanan. She also hosted "I've Got a Secret" on the Oxygen cable TV channel.
She is a comedienne and daughter of former Republican U.S. Representative William Miller, Barry Goldwater's running mate in the 1964 Presidential election.
MOYERS ON THE MEDIA
Did you watch Moyers last night? I think he nailed it pretty well.
The last couple of days Bill O'Reilly has tried to slam Moyers and this show. And that was without ever seeing that show. This man can not stand criticism of any kind. The fact is Moyers took them all on and only a damn few had the guts to step forward and admit they were wrong.
Bill, this program was simply riveting and eye-opening. What became obvious to me as I watched deep into the program is that the mainstream TV network and cable news channels are ALL owned by large corporate concglomerates, whose CEOs et al are 99% heavy contributors to the Republican Party. Can you imagine the pressure brought to bear by them and large corporate advertisers to buy into the marketing of the war? Bravo to Dan Rather, Tim Russert, Phil Donahue, Walter Issacson and a few others who had the courage to appear and take their medicine. Shame on the many who declined to appear. George Will's comments made me sick to my stomach. Finally it was obvious that Colin Powell's credibility with the American people sealed the deal for the invasion. With the trillion plus spent on this debacle so far we could have funded national health care, rebuilt the public school system and fixed social security. This administration will go down as the absolute worst in American history. THANK YOU for having the courage to produce and present this extremely necessary program. I just hope there will be front page coverage in the Times, Post and other major news outlets.
Just this morning on C-SPAN's Washington Journal they had William Kristol talking about Iraq. Listen to this question and how Billy answered it. He gets a tad testie don't you think. And why does he bring in Bill O'Reilly into the mix.
