Today on IMUS he went off on a RANT about the Out Patient Program and the VA. To me it's all about giving more than just lip service like the "SUPPORT OUR TROOPS" motto that flows so quickly from their mouth yet they do nothing in terms of providing money and most of all OVERSITE.
You and I and IMUS can do little more than bitch about the problem. Yes we can vote every 2 or 4 years and that is important, but in the mean time our wounded do not get the attention they need and deserve.
Bush and the republicans have been in charge for over six years and they have not done the job that they were elected to do.

ANOTHER INCONVENIENT TRUTH
Can we talk about ANOTHER INCONVENIENT TRUTH to barrow the title of Al Gore's Oscar winning movie.
My dictionary defines PLATITUDES as: "A trite or banal remark or statement, especially one expressed as if it were original or significant."
Going further and looking up the definition of BANAL I found this: "devoid of freshness or originality; hackneyed; trite: a banal and sophomoric treatment of courage on the frontier."
And finally I looked up TRITE and found this: "lacking in freshness or effectiveness because of constant use or excessive repetition; hackneyed; stale: the trite phrases in his letter."
To me that has happened to the "SUPPORT OUR TROOPS" slogan used by the republicans and the right to suggest that those of us that don't support the war in Iraq some how don't "SUPPORT OUR TROOPS". To them we are traitors.
Well that's just BULLSHIT. They put bumper stickers on their cars and trucks and think that's supporting the troops. What they need to do is write or email their congressman and tell them they are mad as hell about how our returning wounded vets are treated. See my post on 2/18/7.
Remember what Rummy said "You go to war with the army you got, and not the army one you want." Well this was A WAR OF CHOICE and he decided that they didn't need uparmored vehicles and flack jackets. Some families bought them for their sons or daughters themselves.
Also remember that the life insurance policy provided to the troops was about $12,000. It took a lot of protesting to get that changed. Some states did it on there own.
Now ask yourself just "WHO TRULLY SUPPORTS OUR TROOPS", folks that want this war ended and our troops brought home or an administration that does a completely botched up job of planning for this war.

I watched FOX NOISE's new show called IT'S OUT THERE with Michelle Malkin and Kirsten Powers. It was the worst show I have ever seen. Some say the new "½ Hour Show" is just awful as well but since I haven't seen that one yet I don't know. It's going to have to be very bad to beat this "IOT" dog

AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH
I recent bought Al Gore's An Inconvenient Truth and took the time to watch it yesterday. I must say he convinced me, not that he had to because I've felt for a long time that with the vast majority of scientist saying the same thing that Global Warming is Real.
This movie was very, very good and I think Al Gore will win the Oscar which he indeed deserves.
If you haven't seen it pickup a copy it's available at Costco for around $18.00.

This is what I said yesterday about the Democrates teaming up with FOX NOISE NETWORK to conduct a democratic debate in Nevada.
The Democrats have agreed to have "FOX NOISE" Network host a debate later this year in Nevada. Brit Hume will moderate.
Why they agreed to this is in my mind NUTS. There is no way that FOX can be Fair and Balanced when it comes to the democrats.
When any democrat is on that Network they are TRASHED in one way or another. Do you remember the Fox and Friends smear on Obama just a couple of weeks ago. Have you heard the smears and bullshit of Dick Morris on that Fair and Balanced Network.
O'Reilly, Hannitty, Hume, Fox and Friends, John Gibson and others have all taken shots at the dems. It's a well documented fact that all these shows speak for the republicans and use their talking points.
I think the dems are nuts to allow them to do this under the guise of a debate.

This is the message that the Pacific Palisades High School ( California ) staff voted unanimously to record on their school telephone answering machine. This is the actual answering machine message for the school. This came about because they implemented a policy requiring students and parents to be responsible for their children's absences and missing homework. The school and teachers are being sued by parents who want their children's failing grades changed to passing grades - even though those children were absent 15-30 times during the semester and did not complete enough schoolwork to pass their classes. Yesterday on IMUS Tom Friedman asked two questions one of which I've wondered about myself and still haven't heard it talked about.
The first question was "How do you look for uranium in Niger?"
The second question and the one I've wondered about for some time is "Why was what he (Joe Wilson) was doing was illegitimate because his wife suggested it?"
I think that's a great question. I don't get it.
DOG SAVES LIVES
I asked the question yesterday about why a dog was mountain climbing on Mount Hood over the past weekend. It didn't make sense to me and it still doesn't. I don't get it.
That said here an article I saw that talks about this dog VELVET.
Velvet, owned by Bryant, had minor cuts and abrasions on her back paws and legs from prolonged exposure to the snow, but she was cleared to go home. "The dog probably saved their lives" by lying across them during the cold night, said Erik Brom, a member of the Portland Mountain Rescue team. Liston said he felt that he and his companions were well-equipped for climbing Mount Hood in the winter with cell phones, global positioning system gear and the locator beacons. "We'd been in those conditions up on this mountain before," he said. "We've walked out in whiteouts before. We didn't know it was going to be that bad. But we were prepared that it might be snowing and blowing." Liston said he understands critics who say people climbing Mount Hood during the winter are putting not only their own lives at risk, but also the lives of rescuers dispatched when something goes wrong. "It's a kind of delicate balance," he said, "about doing winter climbing, and pushing some of those limits, and not doing it, and only climbing in the summer in shorts and T-shirts. "It's kind of a point of pride you might say for a lot of climbers -- that you can take care of yourself out there." Still, Liston said, "Things happen."

SWAMPSCOTT -- Captain Jennifer Jean Harris was one of the first pilots to reach her helicopter and lift off when the emergency call came into the ready room on the day that she died. Though the 28-year-old Marine was just days from leaving Iraq, Harris was still focused on ferrying injured Marines to safety, said her former commander, Colonel Michael Hudson . Before the CH-46 troop transport she was piloting crashed this month, he said, Harris and her six crew members saved the life of one more Marine.

The Bainbridge Island resident challenging the voter registration of Central Kitsap Commissioner Josh Brown withdrew his challenge this afternoon.
After passing the letter to the board this afternoon, Olsen left the room without any comment. The hearing proceeded without him, with Brown's attorney, John Morgan of Silverdale, representing his client's side in the matter. At the conclusion of his statement, Morgan said he planned to file a criminal felony complaint against Olsen. He said that by filing the affidavit, Olsen committed perjury. The affidavit filed and signed by Olsen stated he had evidence to prove Brown did not live at the address he listed on his voter registration card but instead with his parents on Olympic View Drive. Surely, at this stage, the White House would be willing to admit that conditions in Iraq following the 2003 invasion haven't gone exactly according to plan? White House Press Secretary Tony Snow was asked about this today at the daily briefing, following the release of military documents from 2002 that revealed that the U.S. expected that by now a token American force of 5,000 would be able to keep things under control in Iraq -- and the occupation would require only a two or three month "stabilization" period. "What went wrong?" the reporter reasonably asked. Snow replied: "I'm not sure anything went wrong." Is Snow nuts or what?."

Everyone talks about Barack's "LACK OF EXPERENCE" to which I say he was smart enough to be against the IRAQ War before it started.
Measure that up against the TOTAL EXPERENCE of the Bush administration (the ones that said there was WMD's in Iraq and that there was a Saddam / Al Qaeda connection).
I'll take Barack every time.

They like to pick up on the fact he had the AUDACITY to respond to the criticism of the Australian Prime Minister John Howard, a staunch Bush ally who has sent troops to Iraq and faces his own re-election bid later this year, said Obama's proposals would spell disaster for the Middle East.
"I think that will just encourage those who want to completely destabilize and destroy Iraq, and create chaos and a victory for the terrorists to hang on and hope for an Obama victory," Howard said on Nine Network television. "If I were running al-Qaida in Iraq, I would put a circle around March 2008 and be praying as many times as possible for a victory, not only for Obama but also for the Democrats."
Obama spokesman Robert Gibbs, traveling with the senator in Iowa, said that Howard's words were misguided. "The United States has sacrificed more than 3,000 brave young men and women and $400 billion, only to find ourselves mired in the middle of a sectarian civil war," he said. "Even Republicans . . . know that more of the same is only going to attract more terrorists to Iraq and make our country less safe."
Gibbs went on to say that Howard wasn't in a position to be overly critical.
"If Prime Minister Howard truly believes what he says, perhaps his country should find its way to contribute more than just 1,400 troops so some American troops can come home," he said. "It's easy to talk tough when it's not your country or your troops making the sacrifices."
TAKING POT SHOTS 2
In a speech yesterday Obama said "We ended up launching a war that should never have been authorized, that should never have been waged, and to which we now have spent $400 billion dollars, and it's seen over three thousands lives of the bravest young Americans wasted."
The right wing folks are keying in on the word "WASTED" and equating it to mean "He hates the Troops".
I think it's the CORRECT word. This war was wrong and the lives of our troops have been WASTED on a war we should not be in and have no plans to get out of. That's not hating the troops that's suggesting that when we must go to war we need to know that it's the right thing to do.
This war was not the right thing.
THEY GOT IT RIGHT
The Dixie Chicks got the last laugh the other night when they walked away with a sweep at the Grammy Awards held the other day in L.A. This is after they had been shunned by the American country music establishment over the group's anti-Bush comments leading up to the Iraq invasion.
The Texas trio won record and song of the year for the no-regrets anthem "Not Ready to Make Nice." They also won best country album, which was ironic considering that the group says they do not consider themselves country artists anymore, The Associated Press said.
"I'm ready to make nice!" lead singer Natalie Maines exclaimed as the group accepted the album of the year award. "I think people are using their freedom of speech with all these awards. We get the message."

I apologize to BTP regulars for repeating myself, but since the confusion on the topic of the trust fund persists, I am afraid I must give another brief lecture on the Social Security trust fund. Under the law (which is what is binding here), the fact that Bush or anyone else may have spent the Social Security surplus makes no difference whatsoever. The trust fund holds the same number of bonds as if every cent of the surplus were saved. So, unless Congress votes to default on the government bonds held by the trust fund, then we should think about Social Security's future as though the all the money in the trust fund is there for it to be used, because under the law it is. Now, things could change and Congress could vote to default on the bonds held by the trust fund, but this seems unlikely given the popularity of the program. To date, not one of the 535 members of Congress has publicly advocated default on the bonds held by the trust fund, which is no doubt because such a default would lead to public outrage. The outrage would likely be even greater if the default were to be voted in 10-15 years when the share of retirees in the population will be even larger than it is today. So, unless the reporters know something that they are not reporting (in which case they should probably be fired), they should be discussing Social Security's finances as though current law is followed, which means the bonds in the trust fund are fully honored. In this scenario, the program can pay all scheduled benefits until 2046 according to the Congressional Budget Office. --Dean Baker

HOW ABOUT OUR GRANDDAUGHTER?
Our teenage granddaughter wants to run for North Kitsap county commissioner when the position becomes available. She is worried, however, that she has no job experience, and she doesn't live in northern Kitsap County. I told her not to worry about her blank resume. As long as she declares herself a Democrat, she can count on the endorsements of a U.S. congressman, four mayors, a county prosecutor and a county sheriff. As for her not living in the area she wants to represent, I told her we would rent her an apartment in North Kitsap, and she could just tell everyone that she lives there (even though she really doesn't - wink wink). Also, as a registered Democrat, she is practically guaranteed an endorsement from the Kitsap Sun. Therefore she has nothing to lose. Besides, if anyone ever challenged her residency in North Kitsap, her grandfather and I would gladly consider perjuring ourselves to protect her good name, wouldn't you? She then asked me what the term "political hack" meant. I told her to ask a congressman, mayor, prosecutor or a sheriff, since they are probably more familiar with the term than I am. MY RESPONSE
In today's Kitsap Sun Letters section Jay Kadoura and Linda Chapman must have been separated at birth because they both have a way of twisting their version of facts into half truths and blatant lies.
In the case of Jay he obviously doesn't know that Nancy Pelosi is second in line behind VP Cheney to the presidency and remember Cheney has a heart condition.
He doesn't seem to know that after 9/11 as Speaker of the House it is reasonable and prudent to provide military aircraft to the Speaker for official travel between Washington and her district. A policy that started with Speaker Hastert (a republican by the way).
In the words of White House spokesman Tony Snow "This is a silly story and I think it's been unfair to the speaker,"
As for Linda Chapman regarding the Josh Brown Hearing, what part of "Innocent until proven guilty" and "CASE DISMISSED" (NOT GUILTY) is so hard for her to understand. And shame on her for implying that perjury may have played a part in this hearing. What a Role Model for your granddaughter.

These guys make me nuts. They take the same four clips and run them over and over. And they do this for hours. Yesterday for example they all were on this story for at least five hours.
How crazy is that.

Before you return from your overseas trip, I just want to let you know about the small accident I had with the pick up truck when I turned into the driveway. Fortunately it was not too bad and I really didn't get hurt, so please don't worry too much about me.
I was coming home from Wal-Mart, and when I turned into the driveway I accidentally pushed down on the accelerator instead of the brake. The garage door is slightly bent, but the pick up fortunately came to a halt when it bumped into your car.
I am really sorry, but I know with your kind-hearted personality you will forgive me. You know how much I love you and care for you my sweetheart. I am enclosing a picture for you.

IT JUST WON'T DIE. . .
So we have now had two votes on establishing and funding a Foot Ferry System here in Kitsap County. Both of which have been voted down by a wide margin. Yesterday's by 55 to 44 percent.
So I was surprised (not really) to see today just one day later in the Kitsap Sun an Editorial entitled "Don't Abandon Fast-Ferry Efforts". . . they just won't let it go.
First, about 20 minutes per run would be saved. I say drink another cup of coffee and relax. Second, these boats only carry 150 passengers not what I call mass transit. Third, improving the local economy, they can't be serious. This is going to cost the tax payer more in taxes. . . period.
And finally it will reduce highway congestion. You'll have to explain that one to me. As with the Auto/Passenger Ferry riders of the Fast Ferry have to DRIVE to the Terminal so how is highway congestion reduced exactly.
Now they want to reduce the size of the voting area to the smaller transit service district, does that mean this smaller area are the only ones to be taxed?

WINDOWS VISTA
I spent most of the day yesterday upgrading one of my computers from Windows XP to Windows Vista. When I say most of yesterday I mean it, it took me a good 5-6 hours.
I spent $149.99 at Costco and bought the Windows Vista Home Premium version. There are 4 version of this program from about $100.00 up to about $260.00 depending on where you buy it. Why the hell do they need FOUR Versions of this Operating system?
Any way, I was once again reassured that Microsoft and Windows is still the same as it has been in the past. My proof is the ERROR message I now get when I turn on and off my machine now (see the image on the left). This message comes up each and every time I turn on my system or shut it down.
Like so many error messages coming out of Windows it's clear and to the point, BUT ABSOLUTLELY OF NO HELP.

The other night on the Bill O'Reilly Show he started his show as he always does with THE MEMO.
He is on this kick of trying to prove that NBC has a "Lineral Agenda", but in his memo he talks about comments made by NBC military analysts William Arkin that were published on the Washington Post's Web site, not broadcast by NBC.
I'm sure that many people O'Reilly included have a right to do and say things outside of their primary job (if NBC is Mr Arkin's primary employer.)
The O-MAN loves his "WARS". He has a "WAR ON CHRISTMAS" and this "WAR ON NBC" and his "WAR ON NEWSPAPERS" as well as his "WAR ON JUDGES". I'm waiting for his "WAR ON EVERONE AND EVERYTHING".
