YOU GOTTA HAVE HEART

Heart001.jpg

Today I have a guest host Posting from my daughter (I like to think of her as my baby). She went with me on my visits to these various Dr. appointments and does a great job on taking notes. These notes deal with my last appointment.

Hi Dad,

Here is a quick recap of the appt with the vascular surgeon, Dr Berni.....He won't do the neck surgery becuase it is too risky! As he described to us you have 4 blood vessels going to your brain 2 big ones and 2 small ones. One of the big arteries on your left side is 100% blocked and they can't do anything about that once it goes 100% there is nothing they can do. The other big artery is 50-60% blocked, they could do surgery on that one but it would be more riskier to do the surgery then just leaving it alone and keeping an eye on it at this point. So you need to schedule an appt with Dr Berni again in 6 months to have another look at it via the ultrasound.

He also agreed you have sleep apnea...now I can't remember if he said Chronic or Clinical sleep apnea! But either way he agrees you should go have this checked out as well, becuase this also leads towards your leg problem something to do with the pumping of the blood or one side is working harder....I will get it all clarified when we go into see Dr King...I like the way they explain things! :-)

And your legs he said you do have Venous Statious like Michael and Dr King said. They think pretty much alike huh! :-) They must buy each other dinner a lot!

Well that is it for now..he named off a few other things he said you had liker Pulmonary Heart disease and I can't remember the others...again I am waiting to hear it all from Dr King. Then I can give you a real good update! But for now you will not be having the neck surgery because it is too risky at this point with your heart needing repair and the way they would have to do the neck surgery by doing a bypass in your brain they would have to drill a hole in your head and it just doesn't sound like any fun.....so I guess at this point it is a good thing we are skipping the neck surgery, but also a bad thing that we didn't catch the left side artery before it was blocked 100% since that one can now never be repaired. But he did say he has had people live off of the two small arteries only for years, he never really told me the probability of how long your chance of survival is on the 50-60% main artery that is blocked or what the risk/chance of you having another stroke from having two of the main arteries blocked. I guess that is all up to the man upstairs! :-) I guess he did say it was possible for you to live at least another 20 like I asked!

We will get the full meal deal from Dr King, I expect him to give us another 80+ minutes! Remember he did tell us they take the time and they care about their patients you aren't just part of a cattle call! :-)

I will see you next Wednesday bright and early! We will be there at 9:00am for your 9:30 appt. We will BBQ here on the 4th if you feel like driving over, but my feelings won't be hurt if you don't want to make the drive and leave the dogs when there will be a ton of fireworks going off they will probably be scared. Plus we will see you the next day for your appt so no biggie!

I can't believe my vacation is already almost over! Oh man I should be buying Lotto tickets! We can't win the million if we don't buy a ticket! Oh well, I am thankful I have a good paying job with excellent benefits...I just don't particularly like going to it! He He Ha Ha Ho Ho!! Oh I tickle myslef!

Have a great night and we will talk soon!

Well there it is. The next step will be on the 5th. We will put all these test together and I assume set up a schedule for the surgery. More to follow.

SOMETIMES IT'S THE LITTLE THINGS

Cart001.JPG Cart002.JPG

Yesterday I decided I needed to use a Yard Cart that hooks up to my Riding Lawn Mower. I haven't used the cart in a couple of years and as luck would have it both the tires were flat, but one tire had a hole in it.

No big deal since I bought it at Sears I would just go and buy a new one. When I got there I tried the Tire Center since this was the type of tire that you pump up. Good thinking Mick, that's what makes you so damn smart. Well turns out they don't care them. They suggested I try the Lawn and Garden Dept around the corner.

Ok that's what I did and guess what. . . they don't carry them in stock either. They said I could order one and get it in 7 - 10 days. Well I'm in the mood to use my cart today not 10 days from now.

So what to do.

I decided I'd start at Les Schwab. When I drove in to the parking lot I hadn't gotten out of my car yet and a salesman was there asking how he could help me. I showed him my tire and he said let's go inside and see what we have.

A minute later he found the tire size and they had one in stock for $7.00. He said it would take a few minutes to mount it and I'd be on my way.

He was right I paid after about 10 minutes and headed on home, thinking what a difference in customer service between Sears and Les Schwab. My god Sears sells the damn tractor but doesn't stock the tires. How stupid is that.

I say got to Les Schwab for your tire needs and get GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE.

Heart001.jpg Harrison.jpg

You know sometimes living in Bremerton we don't get taken seriously by folks that live in the major population areas. They look at us as a little backwards and can't keep up with the advances in many areas such as medicine or technology.

The other day I was reading the Letters section in the Kitsap Sun and came across this the following letter.

HARRISON MEDICAL CENTER: It's Now a First-Class Facility

I recently had the opportunity to take a behind-the-scenes tour of the
cardiovascular services at Harrison Medical Center.

It was very informative. As a Harrison "has-been," I was interested to see
what happened to the concept of this service since I retired about five
years ago. I was amazed! Not only is it full-grown and graduated, it's in the
first-class section.

The tour took us on the patient route, starting in the emergency
department, the point of entry for most patients with chest pain. If you get
there by ambulance, you have a head start. They will have the systems in place when you arrive.

Then you'll go to medical imaging, with state of the art equipment and the
personnel to run it. The goal is to get you to treatment as soon as possible.
If surgery is indicated, the next stop is the operating room, where once
again, the surgical team will be ready, surrounded with highly technical
monitoring equipment with the expertise to use it.

Next, it's on to critical care. Here, as in the previous stops, the enthusiasm
and team approach was evident. All were so proud of the services they
provide and, based on very favorable outcomes, it is well-deserved.

E. M., Poulsbo

Having just used the first part of this letter all the way through the medical imaging process I can tell you they are very professional. When I first got there I had 3 nurses fussing over me and taking very good care of me as I awaited my procedure.

The letter is dead on and I felt very good about my decision to stay local.

PEACE DEAL OFFERS IRAQ INSURGENTS AN AMNESTY

peaceiniraq.jpg

THE Iraqi Government will announce a sweeping peace plan as early as Sunday in a last-ditch effort to end the Sunni insurgency that has taken the country to the brink of civil war.

The 28-point package for national reconciliation will offer Iraqi resistance groups inclusion in the political process and an amnesty for their prisoners if they renounce violence and lay down their arms.

The Government will promise a finite, UN-approved timeline for the withdrawal of all foreign troops from Iraq; a halt to US operations against insurgent strongholds; an end to human rights violations, including those by coalition troops; and compensation for victims of attacks by terrorists or Iraqi and coalition forces.

It will pledge to take action against Shia militias and death squads. It will also offer to review the process of "de-Baathification" and financial compensation for the thousands of Sunnis who were purged from senior jobs in the Armed Forces and Civil Service after the fall of Saddam Hussein.

The deal, which has been seen by The Times, aims to divide Iraqi insurgents from foreign fighters linked to al-Qaeda. It builds on months of secret talks involving Jalal al-Talabani, the Iraqi President, Zalmay Khalilzad, the US Ambassador, and seven Sunni insurgent groups.

But one big potential obstacle is whether the US would be willing to grant an amnesty to insurgents who have killed US soldiers but who are not members of extreme groups such as al-Qaeda. The Bush Administration is thought to be split on the issue.

"This is very hard for us, particularly at a time when American servicemen are facing prosecution for alleged war crimes - and others are being captured and tortured," a senior US official said.

With 2,500 US soldiers having died in Iraq, to grant an amnesty would be a "huge political football" before the November mid-term elections in the US, he said. But he added: "This is what we did after the Second World War, after the Civil War, after the War of Independence. It may be unpalatable and unsavory but it is how wars end."

The Government intends to form a committee to distinguish between groups that can be considered legitimate resistance and those that are beyond the pale. "For those that defended their country against foreign troops, we need to open a new page . . . They did not mean to destabilize Iraq. They were defending Iraqi soil," said Adnan Ali, a senior member of the Dawa party of Nouri alMaliki, the Prime Minister.

The draft marks the first time the Iraqi Government has endorsed a fixed timeline for the withdrawal of coalition forces from Iraq, a key demand of the Sunni insurgency.

One insurgent group involved in the discussions told The Times that the timetable for withdrawing foreign troops was key. "We are not against the formation of the new Iraqi government, but with certain conditions, which are to put a timetable for the pullout of US Troops," Abu Fatma, from the Islamic National Front for Liberation of Iraq, said.

THE OFFER

A schedule for coalition forces to withdraw

General amnesty for prisoners "who have not shed innocent Iraqis' blood"

A halt to "anti-terrorist operations" by coalition forces in insurgent areas

A review of the process of de-Baathification and of financial compensation
to sacked civil servants from the Saddam regime

I think this is the best news that has come out of IRAQ in 3 years.

It's now 7pm on Saturday as I write this and CNN is reporting a PLAN for Troop withdrawal starting this year. But strange they did not mention the above report. They are making it sound like it's all the BUSH Administration's idea. What the hell is that about.

TRACKING THE MONEY

trackmoney.jpg

Taping phone call and now tracking money have both been exposed by the major media as a result the folks on FOXNEWS and many other talking heads are all going crazy saying the New York Times are traitors.

Anyone with a half a brain knows that banking transactions are being tracked and have been since day one, just as phone calls have been.

I remember hearing Dave Ross talk about this tracking of banking records a few years back. As I recall the FBI had a search warrant on a Muslim store and took a lot of stuff. I don't remember the outcome but I know the show topic was all about sending money overseas.

AND GUESS WHAT

In part 5 we see the money that is being lost by the American public.

I think that when the Bush administration came into power it changed our way of taking care of a lot of the audits. It became a priority to get rid of the legacy audits -- audits that had been pending or had not been completed from many years. And our focus became solely on getting the past cleaned up and getting a situation where oil and gas could pay the royalties without a lot of complications. And Minerals Management Service (MMS) could do the compliance work without a lot of work involved and the detail that it required in the past.

TALK ABOUT CUT AND RUN

TheseColors.jpg

The republicans, right wingers, and most of the Hosts of Cable TV shows love to use the Rove slogan "CUT AND RUN" as he defines it against the democrats. I think it applies to the Bush handling of the War.

Let's talk about CUT AND RUN. Let's talk about Afghanistan. Isn't that what we did when BUSH and CHENEY decided we needed to go after someone that had NOTHING TO DO WITH SEPTEMBER 11th.

A new video message from the No. 2 figure in al Qaeda, Ayman al-Zawahiri, was posted on Islamic Web sites Wednesday evening.

In the video, al-Zawahiri, speaking in Arabic, addresses his message to the people of Afghanistan and talks about what he terms "crimes against the Afghan people by the Americans."

In the video he calls on young men in Kabul's universities to rise up and "join in with the Mujahedeen forces in attacking the invaders and freeing Muslim Afghanistan."

So we left Afghanistan to attack Iraq and now we are faced with a war that has two fronts. The Troops are stretched now in Iraq and with the resurgent's of the Taliban in Afghanistan I don't know where the Troops will come from to fight them again.

We had them in Afghanistan until Bush and Cheney decided that we NEED TO CUT AND RUN.

What a damn mess this has become. And NO Mr. Cheney they are NOT IN THEIR LAST THROES, GET REAL.

CRAZY AS A LOON

RickyBoy.jpg

The United States has found 500 chemical weapons in Iraq since 2003 and the start of the WAR, and more weapons of mass destruction are likely to be uncovered, two Republican lawmakers said Wednesday.

"We have found weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, chemical weapons," Sen. Rick Santorum, R-Pa., said in a quickly called press conference late Wednesday afternoon.

Am I the only one that thinks Sen. Rick Santorum is as crazy as a loon? He is saying that he's found the WMD's in Iraq. This GREAT find of OLD sarin and mustard gas is OLD NEWS. . . REAL OLD NEWS as far back as 2004.

Whistleblower: A Former Government Employee Speaks Out

Kevin Gambrell was the director of the Federal Indian Minerals Office in Farmington, New Mexico from 1996 to 2003. He spoke to NOW's Maria Hinojosa about what he describes as widespread abuse by oil and gas companies in their efforts to avoid royalty payments. Gambrell accuses some of these companies of lying and cheating, which he says could cost American taxpayers billions of dollars as a result. Gambrell also says that the Minerals Management Service, the governmental bureau in charge of collecting such royalties, "fail in their duties to protect taxpayers."

Gambrell was fired in 2003. He reportedly said the Interior Department told him it was because he destroyed records. Gambrell sued for wrongful termination and said he and the department have reached a confidential settlement.

NOW contacted the Department of Interior to discuss Gambrell's allegations, which they deny, but they turned down our request for an interview. This is an edited transcript of our interview with Gambrell.

FEDERAL MINIMUM WAGE AT LOWEST POINT IN 50 YEARS

minimumwage.jpg

Washington, DC: Raising the federal minimum wage to $7.25 per hour over the next 26 months would increase the annual earnings of the average full-time, full-year, minimum-wage worker by $1,520, according to the Center for Economic and Policy Research.

This week Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-MA) will offer an amendment to the Department of Defense Authorization bill that would increase the minimum wage from the current $5.15 per hour to $7.25. Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-MD) offered an amendment to raise the minimum wage in the House Appropriations Committee and it was approved by a vote of 32-27. It is pending in the House now.

The federal minimum wage is at its lowest point in 50 years. Congress has not raised the minimum wage in a decade. As of December 2006, this will be the longest time Congress has ever gone without raising the minimum wage. Raising the minimum wage is only the first step in helping families to make ends meet. The substantial share of minimum wage workers are adults making significant contributions to the total family income. In the early 2000s, fewer than one-in-five minimum wage workers was under the age of 20 and half were between ages 25 and 54.

Congress gave themselves a nice little pay raise but said the $5.15 minimum was good enough for the poor working class Americans.

40hr work week X $5.15 = $206.00 week X 52 weeks = $10,712 per year.

A congressman that earns $165,000 plus per year or about $3200 per week just doesn't see the need for a pay raise for the poor.

"I think the American taxpayers are losing billions of dollars," Kevin Gambrell, former director of the Federal Indian Minerals Office in Farmington, New Mexico, told NOW.

Gambrell worked for seven years collecting royalties from petroleum companies working on federal and Native American lands in the Four Corners region.

"I think oil and gas companies were always trying to figure out how not to pay royalties or to pay as little as possible," Gambrell said.

He said he caught many oil and gas companies lying and cheating to avoid paying the full royalties owed. He adds that when he tried to go after a company for the royalties they owed, he received phone calls from Congressional offices leaning on him to side with industry.

HOW IT'S SUPPOSED TO WORK

PollOnOilCo.jpg

In part 2 we learn how the system is supposed to work and just what a sweet-heart deal they got. Was it the oil or Royalty relief.

Back in 1995, Congress passed the Deep Water Royalty Relief Act that reduced the amount of royalties oil and gas companies had to pay. At the time, when gas prices were fairly low, the move was seen by many as an incentive to get petroleum companies to drill for oil and natural gas and keep energy production inside the United States.

Since then, a number of other royalty relief measures have been passed, such as the one included in the most recent energy bill, signed last summer, which increased the amount of oil that can be drilled without paying royalties.

Royalty relief under the 1995 act could cost taxpayers up to $80 billion over the next twenty-five years, depending upon the outcome of an industry lawsuit, according to a recent draft report by the Government Accountability Office. This includes a mistake by the government when drawing up some of the royalty agreements, which could cost $10 billion.

TALK IS CHEAP MR ROVE

082403_001.jpg

I had a BLOG back from about Jun 2003 to Mar 2004 when the company that Hosted my Blog went out of business so I was down for about two months.

I'd made screen shots of each rant and printed them and put them in 3 ring binders. I was looking at them yesterday and come across this one for Aug 24, 2003 ( a short 6 months after the March 2003 start of the WAR in Iraq.).

In a speech to New Hampshire Republican officials here Monday night, the White House deputy chief of staff attacked Democrats who have criticized the U.S. war effort in Iraq, such as Sen. John F. Kerry (Mass.) and Rep. John P. Murtha (Pa.), who he said advocate "cutting and running."

"They may be with you for the first shots," Rove said of such opponents. "But they're not going . . . to be with you for the tough battles." (I'M SURE HE JUST FORGOT WHO WAS PRESIDENT DURING ALL OF WORLD WAR 2).

In a drive-by Swift Boating, he portrayed John Kerry and John Murtha, two decorated Vietnam veterans calling for an expedited exit from Iraq, as cowards who exemplify their party's "old pattern of cutting and running." (YEA THIS IS FROM A GUY THAT DID EVERYTHING HE COULD TO AVOID THE DRAFT. . . HE DIDN'T SERVE A MINUTE).

NationalDebt061906.jpg COW061906.jpg

"They're for higher taxes. We're for lower taxes," he said during his description of the economy. "They're for more spending. We're for less spending."

Rove made similarly blunt points about the war. He defended the administration's decision to invade Iraq by laying out Saddam Hussein's "vital interest" in acquiring advanced weapons technology.

dandw061906.jpg

"We were absolutely right" to remove him, Rove said of the former leader. He added, "We have no excuses to make for it." (WELL I CAN THINK OF OVER 2500 PLUS AN ADDITIONAL 18300 PLUS REASON IT WAS WRONG).

LET'S TALK GAS RIP OFF

NOW_gas_001.jpg

Today I start a 6 part series that I captured from PBS-NOW the other night. You'll learn that it doesn't make a difference whither you're a democrat or republican they both give big tax incentives to oil companies, costing the American public billions of dollars.

As oil and gas companies continue to make enormous profits in a time of record-high gas prices, watchdog groups are accusing these companies of shortchanging American taxpayers out of billions of dollars in royalties for drilling rights on public property. Members of Congress are also being blamed for making sweetheart deals with Big Oil engineered to avoid the payment of royalties.

"These oil companies along with some members of Congress have really engineered one of the greatest train robberies of all time," says California Congressman George Miller.

You might not realize it, but American taxpayers own some very valuable property, some of it located in the deep waters of the Gulf of Mexico. If oil and gas companies want to drill on this territory they are required to lease it out from the U.S. government, which collects royalties from them on the taxpayers' behalf.

It's no paltry sum. Royalties from oil and gas exploration are the government's second largest source of revenue, behind income tax.

FIGHT OVER IRAQ WAR

TimeWaste.jpg

The House and the Senate engaged in angry, intensely partisan debate on Thursday over the war in Iraq, as Republicans sought to rally support for the Bush administration's policies and exploit Democratic divisions in an election year shadowed by unease over the war.

It was one of the sharpest legislative clashes yet over the three-year-old conflict, and it came after three days in which President Bush and his aides had sought to portray Iraq as moving gradually toward a stable, functioning democracy, and to portray Democrats as lacking the will to see the conflict through to victory.

In the House, lawmakers moved toward a vote Friday after more than 11 hours of debate on a Republican resolution promising to "complete the mission" in Iraq, prevail in the global fight against terrorism and oppose any "arbitrary date for withdrawal." In the Senate, lawmakers voted overwhelmingly to shelve an amendment calling on the United States to withdraw most troops by the end of this year, although Democrats vowed to revisit the debate next week.

Let's see the WAR started in March 2003 and today is June 16, 2006 and we are now having a debate on the WAR in Iraq. Only congress would think that's a good idea.

YEA I'M BAD!!!

Yesterday I went in to learn how to give myself a shot. As I said before I HATE shots or drawing blood. So having to give myself a shot was not my idea of a good time.

My Dr's nurse was very nice and had a calming effect on me as she talked about this procedure. She not only talked about this process she actually demonstrated it ON HERSELF.

Then it was my turn. She said she if I wanted she would do it for me this time and I could come back tomorrow an I could do it. Well after watching her doing it on herself I figured I needed to step up to the plate.

All I can say folks is you would have been proud of me. I hit that sucker outta the park. And it didn't hurt. YEA I'M BAD.

Later I went to the Meals On Wheels/Chuckwagon Senior Nutrition Program to check out there food. After my surgery I may need them to deliver so food for a few days.

The food was just fine and I met a couple of guys that sat at my table. We had a very interesting conversation. It was a pleasant experience and I'll be going back again.

On meeting with the Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri Kamal al-Maliki he said Looking into his eyes. . .

You remember how well that worked with Putin.

HELP PROTECT OUR HEROES!

OperHelmet.jpg

I saw Cher on C-SPAN yesterday. She was talking about providing our troops with Helmet Kits that can help save lives. Along with Cher was the founder of the organization behind this project called Operation Helmet.

Mission:

OPERATION HELMET provides helmet upgrade kits free of charge to
troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as to those ordered to deploy in the
near future.

These helmet upgrades do three primary things:

Comfort - If it is more comfortable, it will stay on troop's head longer and more often.

Stability - Keeps the helmet firmly on the head and out of the eyes.

Protection - Shock-absorbing pads keep the helmet from slapping the skull when hit
with blast forces, fragments, or being tumbled along the ground or inside a vehicle.
This decreases the chance of brain injury from bombs, RPG's, vehicle accidents, falls, etc.

As a secondary benefit, the pads make the helmet actually float in water.

Profile:

We are a charitable organization headquartered in Houston, Texas with volunteer operations around the country. 100% of all contributions are used to send upgrade kits to our troops! We have zero overhead - it is a labor of love. Operation Helmet, Inc. is a 501-c-3 Charity. Our EIN is 20-1756585. Donations are tax-deductible
Cher.jpg DrBobMeades.jpg

You know the right likes to say "YOU CAN'T SUPPORT THE TROOPS UNLESS YOU SUPPORT THE WAR." Well that has always been a load of CRAP and this is just another way of proving them wrong again.

What I don't understand is that we spend more money on defense than all the other country's in the world combined. And so if this small group can come up with something that saves lives I don't understand why the Defense Department doesn't take care of this.

The upgrade cost $71 for the Marine model and $99 for the others. With about 100,000 troops in Iraq today it would cost only $10 million to upgrade everyone of them.

WHY DO WE NEED THIS GROUP when we have right wingers that say they support the Troops and the WAR. Let's see them put their money where their mouth is.

WHAT DID YOU DO IN THE WAR DADDY???

RoveProof.jpg

"They may be with you for the first few bullets but they won't be there for the last tough battles." -- Karl Rove, on John Kerry and John Murtha, Reuters, 6/13

"Except for a lapse of several months, Selective Service records show presidential adviser Karl Rove escaped the draft for nearly three years at the height of the Vietnam War using student deferments. " [Walsh, Salt Lake Tribune, 9/18/2004]

Rove's (non-) draft history includes a period where he claimed a student deferment even though he had dropped out of school.

Man how can these guy say this BULLSHIT with a straight face? I think it's "Winning isn't everything, it's the ONLY THING" with these guys.

BTW you know that Kerry and Murtha are both highly decorated service men. Men that under real live action didn't cut and run. They didn't talk about being tough, they were tough.

YOU GOTTA HAVE HEART

Heart001.jpg

Well today I learn to shoot myself in the belly. Wish me well.

A week or so ago I was over visiting my sister and brother-in-law (he's going through chemotherapy), like I've said so many time "SCREW THE SENIOR YEARS". She suggested that I check out the Meals On Wheels program and see if they can help me when I'm released from the hospital.

I was a little reluctant to call them because I thought I was asking for charity and for this MUCHO guy who has always paid his way I don't need no charity. Yea you tell'em Mick.

So I waited a few days and decided that it wouldn't hurt to check it out. I'd asked my Dr's nurse if she heard of the Meals on Wheels group here in Bremerton and she said sure, they do great work. She then went and got me a little booklet called Senior Information and Assistance. It listed the Chuckwagon Senior Nutrition Program which includes Meals on Wheels Program.

So I got up enough nerve and called the number. A lady answered and I asked if she could explain how the program works. She said the program offers low cost ($2.50 per meal suggested donation.) The program is for all seniors that can't cook for themselves or simple don't want to.

They run the Meals on Wheels Program where they will deliver meals to your house. (a $4.00 donation is expected).

She asked me to come to a lunch today at noon and try their food so I'm going to give it a try. She then asked for my name and address and she would send me a menu and some other information. I gave her my name and address and she said how about that she was our neighbor some 20 years ago living just 2 doors down the street from us.

We had a nice long talk and found out our kids are all doing just fine. I look forward to seeing her today at lunch.

BTW here is today's menu item: Tomato-Cucumber Salad, Roast Beef Stroganoff Over Noodles, Carrot Coins, Whole Wheat Roll, and Brownie. Yep just like I would fix for myself.

FDA APPROVED

FDAapproved.jpg

The Food and Drug Administration had intended to allow over-the-counter sales of Plan B last year but delayed the move while determining how to limit those sales to women 17 and older - a process that should have wrapped up by now, the agency's former chief testified.

But Crawford said his Aug. 26, 2005, announcement that the agency was delaying its decision on Plan B wasn't a move toward denying over-the-counter sales. Instead, it was a bid for time to work out how to enforce restricting nonprescription sales to women 17 and older. Girls 16 and younger would still need a prescription.

Now if you believe that you must be interested in this Bridge I'm selling.

Plan B, also known as the morning-after pill, is a high dose of regular birth control pills. Its hormone, called levonorgestrel, prevents ovulation. If ovulation already has occurred, Plan B prevents fertilization of the egg.

If you watched 60 Minutes last Sunday you know that there is some of that "HANKY PANKY RELIGIOUS RIGHT WING CRAP" going on with this issue. These folks need to stay the hell out of our business. It's my business not there's if I want that over-the-counter pill.

Just like the Pharmacists that want to be your Dr and fill ONLY the prescriptions they think you should have and not the ones your Dr has prescribed. These folks need to get a different job.

I don't get why all these republicans who claim to be for small government and less government control EXCEPT WHEN IT COMES TO MY BED ROOM (IE: GAYS, ABORTION, PLAN B, SEX ED, AND STEM CELLS).

"I made a decision that that was correct. What I could not decide on is whether or not I could stand before the American people and say this will be successfully enforced. That I could not decide," Crawford said in his deposition.

Now it seems to me we sell lots of things in this country that you need to be a certain age to buy them, cigarettes, beer, and whiskey come to mind. So how is this Plan B any different.

I say FDA get off your ASS and release Plan B and GET THE HELL OUT OF MY BED ROOM ONCE AND FOR ALL.

ABOUT DAMN TIME

MiniWage.jpg

Remember the minimum wage hasn't gone up since 1997.

A U.S. House of Representatives panel Tuesday voted to raise the U.S. minimum wage in increments (from the current $5.15) to $7.25 an hour by Jan. 1, 2009. (I'd pay a kid to work in my yard this summer at least $8.00 per hour for God's sake).

The House Appropriations Committee backed the proposal by a vote of 32-27 during work on a massive fiscal 2007 funding bill for labor and health programs. (I can't believe this vote was that close).

But the legislation faces many hurdles, including possible efforts by Republican leaders to have the proposal stricken from the legislation, according to Republican and Democratic aides.

Under the proposal, which was offered by House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer, a Maryland Democrat, the current $5.15-per-hour federal minimum wage would rise in 70-cent increments starting Jan. 1, 2007. On that date, the minimum wage would be set at $5.85 and a year later it would go to $6.55 before topping off at $7.25 in 2009.

For the last several years, Democrats have been pushing to raise the minimum wage, which has been static since 1997.

Republicans have blocked the move, claiming it would discourage hiring of low-skilled workers and hurt the economy.

Both of the above two republican TALKING POINTS are pure BULLSHIT and used to scare people. Like I said I'd pay a kid to work in my yard right now for $8.00. When a company can give a $400 plus million dollar retirement package for a CEO like Exxon just did they can afford to pay a new worker $7.25.

Angioplasty.jpg

The nurse called again yesterday and said since I'm taking Coumadin a blood thiner which I need to stop talking on the 15th they want me to take something else called LOVENOX.

This stuff comes not in pill form but in a syringe. . .that's a SYRINGE. . . get that a S*Y*R*I*N*G*E.

They want to train me to poke this syringe in my belly starting tomorrow. Now you know the reason for the OH CRAP heading.

I have been afraid of shots since I was a kid. I remember even to this day the thing that set me off. I went to this dentist, I was about 11 or 12. He was giving me a shot and I was fighting him saying it hurt. I think I might even have cried. This guy said don't be such a big baby that didn't hurt. Well sure it didn't hurt him. I've feared shots and giving blood ever since. Even to this day with me taking blood thinner I have to go in every month and the poke my finger for a drop of blood. . . I can't watch.

Damn time is going by so fast I don't even have time to worry about it. I'll let you know how I do on Friday's post.

Update on my Will Software. I decided with the problems I was having I better upgrade the software and update my Will and other documents. It's working just fine. I finished the Power of Attorney yesterday and it looks mah-velous.

Well wouldn't you know it I need to update my Will because it's been about 8 years since I created it and there have been some changes over the years that I need to address. My son and his wife had a baby boy, my daughter and her husband had a baby girl and I have three dogs (and yes they are a part of my Will, they're my kids too ya know.)

I use a program called Willmaker 7 by Nolo Press. It's a very complete program but it's pretty old in fact they don't make it anymore I think Quicken bought them out. The program not only creates a Will but also a Power of Attorney, Final Arrangement and Healthcare Directive. I don't want Senator Frist or Sean Hannity sticking their nose into my business (you do remember Terri Schiavo don't you).

You know that Terri Schiavo BULLSHIT last year should have given anyone that saw that whole mess a wakeup call. They should have a Will as well as the other documents.

When I tried to make a change to my current file the damn program blew up. Great just want I need. I'm going to install it on another computer and copy my data file over under a new name and see what happens. I just didn't need this right now. More to follow.

Everyone expected House Republicans to give up efforts to kill NPR and PBS after a massive public outcry stopped them last year. But they've just voted to eliminate funding for NPR and PBS -- unbelievably, starting with programs like "Sesame Street." Alexis needs a good station like PBS to be able to watch any type of educational children's shows. . .he loves her Sesame Street. . .Elmo and Zoe!!

You debate the burning of the Flag as though people where doing it every fifteen minutes. You know and if you don't know you need to get out of congress now. . . that there are about 10 Flag burnings a year on average. THIS IS ANOTHER NON ISSUE.

And so we come to funding of NPR and PBS. You on the right can't stand success, I give you social security it has worked for 70 years and just needs some tweaking not privatization. You on the RIGHT will work until you break it how dumb is that. Just fix it and do the same with Plan D.

So now you want to kill funding for NPR and PBS a service that has over the years done more for educating America's children and providing adults with REAL Fair and Balanced Television and Radio programming. Ten minutes of PBS is better than most all of the programs in the commercial world.

YOU CAN'T BE SERIOUS.

Heart001.jpg

So I talked to my primary care Dr about the progress with my legs or lack of progress I should say. He decided to add a couple of pill to my long list of meds. Thank God I have a good Health Care plan and am not on that Medicare Plan "D" prescription drug program. I'd be facing bankruptcy I'm sure.

Speaking of Plan "D" I may get into that over the next few weeks. I have real problems with that program as do many others. So I'll make a mental note (yea right Mick) and put it on my to do list.

The new drugs seem to work well as my legs seem to be healing much better. This is critical because when I do eventually go in for surgery they don't want any bacteria running through my veins. That's not a good thing.

My primary care Dr setup an appointment for me with my Heart Dr. and it was at that appointment that I learned I needed to have heart valve replaced and maybe some bi pass as well.

I sure didn't understand everything the Dr said and asked him if he would write down what I should Google when I got home so I could learn more about it. This is what he wrote: Aortic Stenosis with aortic valve area 0.7cm2 with congestive heart failure. Scary huh.

I did the search and got a lot of hits but to be honest I really didn't under stand much of what was said and some of the pictures were really, really ugly. I'll keep looking and maybe I'll find something that doesn't use all that medical jargon.

More to come.

Heart001.jpg

One thing I forgot to mention in my background piece yesterday was that in 1985 my Dr. performed an Angioplasty procedure while I was in the hospital. This is done to open a partially blocked blood vessel so that blood can flow through it more easily. It is most often done on arteries that deliver blood to the heart (coronary arteries) when they are narrowed by plaque buildup (atherosclerosis) or blood clots.

So there you have it, yea I know I'm a mess but on the other hand that all happened in an 8 year period and it has been 13 years since all of that.

So now let me bring you all the way to today. As I said on my first post it all started with an itch on my leg. The itch turned into torn skin on my legs that at first seemed to heal quite well. But as time passed they came back on their own and my primary care Dr sent me to a specialist.

For the last six months we fought this problem by wrapping my legs and using support hose. Slowly it started to get a little better. But still the specialist said I need to talk to my primary care Dr again to maybe change some of the medication I was on and talk to him about my heart.

It's true this women has the BIGGEST TRASH MOUTH in America. I've seen her on several shows since her Today interview when all of this started. She was on Lou Dobbs, O'Reilly and on The Situation with Tucker Carlson and none of them were able to get her to admit she made a mistake in bad mouthing the 9/11 widows. Sounds like someone else I know that can't think of even one mistake since becoming president and starting a war.

As I said yesterday the republicans have done a good job of using words to change the focus on a subject. Well there is another trick the republicans use and that is saying their opponent "ARE TAX AND SPEND", "HAVE NO PLAN", "HATE AMERICA", "DO NOTHING BUT NAME CALLING" and on and on. When the truth is they are talking about themselves.

For example have you heard of the republican plan to get out of IRAQ? Good plan right?

Do we really need to talk about TAXES and the National Debt.

I don't even know what "HATE AMERICA" means and have never heard of anyone use those words except the republicans.

The biggest name callers are the Coulter's, O'Reilly's, Hannity's and Linbaugh and some others.

It's like they say "Repeat something often enough and pretty soon people will believe"

DING, DONG. . .

TomFlimFlam.jpg

Is there a more arrogant piece of CRAP than Tom DeLay. (Ann Coulert is in the running to take his place). I saw this in The New Republic and think it summarizes DeLay quite well.

Tom DeLay just delivered his House resignation speech--a melodramatic soliloquy highlighted by a rousing celebration of political partisanship. "It is not the principled partisan" who deserves scorn, DeLay argued, "but the preening self-styled statesman who elevates compromise to a first principle." "You show me a nation without partisanship," he said, "and I'll show you a tyranny." Also, he added: "Given a chance to do it all again, there's only one thing I would change: I would fight even harder." One House Democratic staffer emailed me midway, likening the address to Gordon Gekko's "Greed Is Good" speech.

Of course, the problem here is that DeLay really wasn't all that principled. From the GOP's 2003 Medicare bill to farm subsidies to pork spending--not to mention the shameless use of government to enrich legislators and lobbyists--DeLay cast aside the conservative ideals he espoused in the name of political power and personal gain. As even the Wall Street Journal harrumphed last year: "The problem. . . is that Mr. DeLay, who rode to power in 1994 on a wave of revulsion at the everyday ways of big government, has become the living exemplar of some of its worst habits."

Right down to the self-important, self-deluding farewell address. --Michael Crowley

I pray this is the last time I talk about this CROOK. Well wait a minute I hope I can write about him just once more and that is when he is convicted and sent to jail. His wife and daughter might also be sweating.

I guess the old saying "A FAMILY THAT CHEATS' TOGETHER STAYS TOGETHER" works in the Delay household.

YOU GOTTA HAVE HEART

Heart001.jpg

BACKGROUND

I think I need to go back to 1985 when I was much younger and some would say healthier. Back then I was at work and working very hard. It was around lunch time and I didn't feel well. I was sweaty but that's about it.

A friend I worked with was walking by and I asked him if he'd give me a ride home because I wasn't feeling well. He said he would but could he pick up his Kentucky Fried Chicken first. I said sure why not.

A little later my boss came by and said "Man you don't look well, I'm taking you to your DR." And off we went. My Dr. put me in the hospital as I had just had a heart attack.

I honestly felt no pain and except for feeling sweaty and to others very pale. So lesson one, learn the symptoms and when in doubt see a Dr. Have a boss that recognizes the symptoms and be sure to thank him. (I can't remember if I ever thanked Kert so in case I didn't I want to thank you now. Thanks Kert.

Up till I had my heart attack I smoked 2 packs a day and had been a smoker for about 25 years. With my heart attack I at least finally got the message that "THE BASEBALL BAT" to the head God gave me was his way of telling me something. I may be a slow learner but I'm not stupid. I stopped smoking then and there and haven't had a smoke since. I even stopped drinking. Made sense although I never had a problem with drinking like my dad did. It just seems the right thing to do.

I had a second heart attack in 1989 but didn't need to go to the Hospital. I had mild stroke in 1993 and did spend a day or two in the Hospital and about 6 weeks off work. That was followed by some therapy because I lost some of my memory. I couldn't remember DOS commands (for those out there that remember what DOS is).

It's funny how the brain works these DOS commands were part of my job. I used them every day. But my stroke made it hard for me to remember them. In time they all came back and I went back to work.

Since '93 life has been good. So now it's on to documenting the next several months. Wish me well.

NOT SO FAST

AlZarqawi.jpg

I'm not so sure that I should get all jacked up about the news that al-Zarqawi is dead as I've seen some people do this morning on TV as they discuss the meaning of all this.

I think it's important to keep in mind that the folks we are fighting do not play by a standard set of rules. These are guys that are building bombs in their garage, they live in caves, they build and drive suicide car bombs. They fight this gorilla war which makes it very hard for us to get good reliable intelligence on them.

I'm not sure we've learned how to fight this kind of war. We weren't to successful in Viet Nam and I don't think we have been that successful in Iraq.

It seems to me when you are dealing with fanatical extremist like these al qaeda nuts there is always someone else that is ready to take the place of the leader.

And finally, remember it was over 2 years ago that we captured Saddam and at that time the president said "In the history of Iraq, a dark and painful era is over. A hopeful day has arrived. All Iraqis can now come together and reject violence and build a new Iraq." - - George Bush Dec 2003

Now 2 and a half years later we are still at wor with no clear exit policy. So while this is good news only time will tell what it means to the over all war in Iraq.

TALKING POINTS

JustWords.jpg

Why is it when the republicans say that the democrats are a "FRACTURED PARTY" because they have so many different points of view, but when they talk about the republicans they say they are the "BIG TENT" party because they have many different points of view.

That's something the republicans have learned very well over the years. They like to use a PLAY ON WORDS to change the meaning and to imply something different than the true meaning.

Let me give you some examples.

DEMS = FRACTURED PARTY while REPS = BIG TENT PARTY

ESTATE TAX is now DEATH TAX

DOMESTIC SPYING is now TERRORIST SURVEILLANCE PROGRAM

PRIVATIZE is now PERSONAL ACCOUNTS

I'm going to keep adding to my list and will publish it from time to time as I add more words.

OH BABY!!!

YOU GOTTA HAVE HEART

Heart001.jpg

I'm going to be 70 this October and I wonder at my age is it ok to be afraid? I guess it is because I am.

I've been having a problem with my legs. It all started about a year ago when I was at Costco looking at something I can't remember what and it doesn't matter anyway. So I was there looking at whatever when I felt an itch in my leg. So I used my heal to scratch it, no big deal and the itch went away.

That was the start of a journey that lead me to yesterday and an appointment with a heart surgeon. The topic of discussion was my heart as you might expect. Turns out I need to have open heart surgery in the not to distant future. But hold on I'm getting ahead of myself.

I've decided that as long as I can I'm going to BLOG about what's going on as I move forward to regain my health. I may not post each and every day but I'm sure I'll find enough to talk about because I live alone with my dogs (Buddy, Billy and Sweet) and I'll need to figure out how to take care of them before and after my operation. I even need to figure out how to take care of me as well.

I hope when all is said and done my postings will help me as I go through all the testing and recovery as well as some visitors to my BLOG.

NEVER MISS A BEAT

mrstomd.jpg

Man if there is a way to put ill begotten money in his pocket Tom Delay will not only find it he'll use it. All in the name of Family Values of course.

This time he uses his wife and daughter, guess it doesn't matter much who you corrupt as long as you get the money.

A registered lobbyist opened a retirement account in the late 1990s for the
wife of then-House Whip Tom DeLay (R-Tex.) and contributed thousands of
dollars to it while also paying her a salary to work for him from her home in
Texas, according to sources, documents and DeLay's attorney, Richard
Cullen.

The account represents a small portion of the income that DeLay's family
received from entities at least partly controlled by lobbyist Edwin A.
Buckham. But the disclosure of its origin adds to what was previously known
about the benefits DeLay's family received from its association with
Buckham, and it brings the total over the past seven years to about half a
million dollars.

Buckham was DeLay's chief of staff before he became a lobbyist at the end
of 1998.

From 1998 until recently, Buckham, an evangelical minister, met regularly
with DeLay, occasionally attended staff meetings in his office, made
scheduling recommendations or decisions for the office, and served as
DeLay's chief political and spiritual adviser, even though he was not formally
employed by him.

Under congressional ethics rules, lobbyists such as Buckham are barred from
providing gifts or gratuities with a total value exceeding $50 to lawmakers in
a single year. No similar prohibition exists for payments to a lawmaker's
family members, but the pay must be a reasonable wage for real work and
not be meant to influence a lawmaker's votes. Nothing in pending House and
Senate lobbying reform legislation addresses the issue of such lobbyist
payments to lawmaker's families.

An arm of the group paid Buckham a monthly consulting fee, and Buckham in
turn employed its executive director as a consultant to his lobbying firm.
The two of them shared a single office on the top floor of a townhouse
owned by a nonprofit organization that Buckham created and directed.
Buckham's role is relevant because from 2001 to Jan. 31, 2006, ARMPAC
paid Christine DeLay; DeLay's daughter, Dani DeLay Ferro; and Ferro's
Texas firm a total of $350,304 in political consulting fees and expenses,
according to public records. - - Washington Post

I find it interesting how these guys with their so called FAMILY VALUES and CHRISTIAN BELIEFS have no problem pulling this crap.

WASHINGTON, June 5, 2006 - Whether measuring by the number of privately funded trips taken or the total amount sponsors spent on each congressional office, members of the House and their aides topped their Senate counterparts during the January 2000 through June 2005 study period. House members or staffers also took the 10 most expensive trips identified in the Center for Public Integrity's analysis.

Here's a breakdown of the top-traveling congressional offices (legislator and staff totals combined) alphabetized by member, followed by a list of the priciest individual trips and who took them:

WI-FI AND THE CITIES

Wi_Fi004.jpg

I'm sending this to the Kitsap County Commissioners and suggest they forget the NASCAR Track. I think having connectivity throughout the county would be much more useful and could lead to additional jobs.

With all the talk about the merits of a NASCAR Track being located in Kitsap County it seems to me that it brings little value to most citizens of the county.

On the other hand providing Wireless (WI-FI) Internet connectivity I feel has the great potential to bring real jobs to the county. It offers the opportunity to provide better, improved and broaden education to our children.

Over the past year or so I have seen report after report talking about what many cities and counties around the country are doing in regard to providing WI-FI connectivity in their area. Below is just the latest article from the New York Times .

The second paragraph which I have highlighted in blue says it all.

No fewer than 300 cities and towns around the nation have taken wireless
Internet access, or Wi-Fi, to the people. San Francisco's aim is to make the
entire city a hot spot, Chicago plans to blanket the city with access, and
large parts of Philadelphia are to go wireless soon. But New York, which
should be leading the way, is dragging. A plan to offer free Wi-Fi access in
city parks has been moving slowly, and a larger vision has yet to take shape.

Wide dissemination of Wi-Fi is not the future. It is now, needed by
businesses, educators and especially the underserved populations on the
wrong side of the digital divide. Rural communities have known for a while
that going wireless is cheaper, more reliable and allows even the most
remote areas to log in. It spares the expense of laying down extensive
networks of cables, not to mention the work and time involved.

Local governments are filling a leadership void at the federal and state
levels, and they are going directly to providers to negotiate Wi-Fi deals. San
Francisco's mayor has turned to Earthlink and Google. Earthlink, based in
Atlanta, is also helping Philadelphia. In some of these deals, lower-speed
connections are free, with higher speeds available at a price. The providers
also hope to make money off advertising.

Surfing the net in the parks is a modest goal for New York, where some
smaller parks have already been hooked up by agreement between
independent groups managing those parks and NYC Wireless, a nonprofit
organization. The city needs to get moving to get the larger parks online, but
it also has to get serious about wider access. The minimal goal - pressed
with energy in the City Council by Gale Brewer of Manhattan - should be
free or low-cost access in its densely populated, poor neighborhoods in all
the boroughs. That is where cable and phone line options are out of financial
reach, and where education especially suffers as a result. -- New York Times

While I'm not suggesting that the NASCAR debate be turned off I am suggesting that you all become the folks with a BIGGER VISION for ALL the people of Kitsap County. Time for car racing should not be the only issue on the agenda for Kitsap.

THEY ARE RELENTLESS

mythbreak.jpg

Even though their arguments are a pack of lies the republicans continue to tell them and what's worse American keep falling for them.

Here are 9 Myths that the republicans love to push. You'll recognize some of these and some may be new but check them out and decide for yourself. You don't need me or ANYONE else to make up your mind.

Oh by the way IT'S the ESTATE TAX (IRS) not the DEATH TAX as the republicans like to say to kinda scare you.

Myth 1: Repealing the estate tax wouldn't significantly worsen the deficit because the tax
doesn't raise much revenue.
Reality: Repealing the estate tax would add trillions of dollars to future deficits.

Myth 2: The estate tax forces estates to turn over half of their assets to the government.
Reality: The few estates that pay any estate tax at all generally pay less than 20 percent
of the value of their estate in taxes.

Myth 3: Many small, family-owned farms and businesses must be liquidated to pay estate taxes.
Reality: The number of small, family-owned farms and businesses that owe any estate tax
is small - and shrinking rapidly.

Myth 4: The estate tax is best characterized as the "death tax."
Reality: The estate tax would more appropriately be called an "inheritance tax," as it ultimately
affects only the heirs of large estates.

Myth 5: The estate tax unfairly punishes success.
Reality: The estate tax affects only those most able to pay, and the funds it raises are used to
support a range of programs that benefit the nation.

Myth 6: Eliminating the estate tax would encourage people to save and thereby make more
capital available for investment.
Reality: Eliminating the estate tax wouldn't dramatically affect private saving, and it would
greatly increase government dissaving (i.e., deficits).

Myth 7: The estate tax constitutes "double taxation" because it applies to assets that
already have been taxed once as income.
Reality: Large estates have substantial amounts of "unrealized" capital gains that have
never been taxed; the estate tax is the only means of taxing this
income.

Myth 8: If the estate tax is reformed and retained, the logical top tax rate would be
15 percent, the same as the capital gains rate.
Reality: To match the effective tax rate on capital gains, the top estate tax rate would
have to be 35-40 percent, not 15 percent.

Myth 9: The cost of complying with the estate tax is nearly equal to the total amount
of revenue the tax raises.
Reality: The cost of estate tax compliance is modest, and is not much different than
the cost of complying with other taxes.

CNN 6/3/6 -- Canadian police say they have foiled a major "al Qaeda-inspired" bomb plot against targets in and around Toronto.

The Canadians did it with good old fashion police work.

Funny isn't that what John Kerry said was needed in the WAR ON TERROR. Not a major army.

WHERE HAVE ALL THE PROTESTER GONE

TwoDaysOct.jpg

I was working on this a week or so ago but misplaced it until now.

Man last night I tuned into The American Experience on PBS a little after the show had started. It was a film called TWO DAYS IN OCTOBER. One of the turning points in the War in Viet Nam and an incident that started the protests on collage campus's.

I remember those days and this film was so powerful I found it hard not to cry. As is true today in Iraq the men dying over there in Viet Nam were so young, so very, very young.

It was truly an awful time and though they don't like comparing Viet Nam with Iraq I can't help but see the similarities.

AllPBS2days.jpg

The above was what I said back in October 2005 when I first saw this show.

Only a few were natural protesters, those students who marched against the war in Vietnam. Most had come to the University of Wisconsin to learn, to have fun, to get away from home. But as the war escalated, more and more students were drawn into the demonstrations, and what they witnessed on October 18 brought even more into the fold.

That was the story behind the show on American Experience, PBS last night. It was as powerful the second time as it was the first time I saw it. I don't feel any different today as I did back then. And yes I know it was about Viet Nam but it could be IRAQ just as well. In fact I wonder why we don't see the protest movement growing. It seems to me America is almost as unhappy with this war as that one at the time.

I think it will happen it's just a matter of time.

We need to come home.

IT'S NOT POLITICS AS USUAL

unity08.jpg

I'm not sure how I fell about this yet. I do know that I've thought for some time that it would be great to have a strong third party. I think it's worth it to watch this group as it develops, might change some minds.

Unity08 is a diverse group of Americans who believe that neither of today's parties reflects the aspirations, concerns or will of the majority of Americans. Both parties have polarized and alienated voters. Both are unduly influenced by single-issue groups. Both are excessively dominated by money.

There is a better way. . .

Unity08 is committed to presenting a third presidential ticket and platform - one that addresses the issues and challenges of the 21st Century - to the American voters in 2008.

We will not waste time pointing fingers. Instead, we will focus on how America can find common ground on critical issues - to give the overlooked moderate majority a voice and a choice in 2008.

ARE THEY TRULY NUTS???

gaymarriage.jpg

The president devoted his weekly radio address to the Marriage Protection Amendment and has invited supporters to the White House on Monday for another speech promoting it.

The Senate is set to begin debating the amendment Monday and vote Wednesday, but both sides believe sponsors do not have the 67 votes it needs for approval despite Bush's endorsement.

"His position is that he thinks people ought to have the freedom to lead their private lives," White House spokesman Tony Snow said. "He also does not believe that that means that you have to redefine the institution of marriage. He believes the institution of marriage is between a man and a woman."

Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-Tenn.) said he decided to call for a vote on the amendment because states that banned same-sex marriage in the last 18 months are under assault in the courts. "Unelected activist judges are tearing down state laws in nine states today," Frist said on "Fox News Sunday" last weekend. "That's why I will take it to the floor of the Senate." Frist is the least believable guy in all of congress except for Tom Delay.

On Fox News' The Big Story with John Gibson, right-wing pundit Michelle Malkin blasted the media coverage of the alleged massacre in Haditha, claiming that there are "puddles of drool in the offices of the L.A. Times and The New York Times."

Other right-wing pundits have also complained about media coverage of the Haditha incident on Fox News. For example, on the May 31 edition of The O'Reilly Factor, host Bill O'Reilly claimed that the "left-wing press" and others are "rejoic[ing]" over Haditha, as Media Matters for America noted.

Savetheinternet.com, says it has collected more than 700,000 signatures on
a petition. Last week, a bipartisan bill favoring net neutrality, sponsored by
James Sensenbrenner, Republican of Wisconsin, and John Conyers Jr.,
Democrat of Michigan, won a surprisingly lopsided vote in the House
Judiciary Committee.

Sir Tim argues that service providers may be hurting themselves by pushing
for tiered pricing. The Internet's extraordinary growth has been fueled by
the limitless vistas the Web offers surfers, bloggers and downloaders.
Customers who are used to the robust, democratic Web may not pay for one
that is restricted to wealthy corporate content providers.

"That's not what we call Internet at all," says Sir Tim. "That's what we call
cable TV."

Check out the video below from PBS - NOW from last night. It does a good job of laying out the issues. Lets you know who is behind them and why.

Five years of studying and perseverance finally paid off for Katharine "Kerry" Close, an eighth grader who won the national spelling bee crown on Thursday.

The winning word for the 13-year-old from Spring Lake, New Jersey: u-r-s-p-r-a-c-h-e, a word of German origin, which means a parent language, especially one reconstructed from the evidence of later languages.

"I couldn't believe it. I knew I knew how to spell the word and I was just in shock," Close said moments after receiving the winning trophy. "I couldn't believe I would win."

It was her fifth straight appearance in the finals of the annual Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington.

FIRST WE HAD THE BRIDGE TO NOWHERE

porker02.jpg

Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW) has named Mississippi Senators Thad Cochran (R) and Trent Lott (R) Porkers of the Month for adding $700 million for the "railroad to nowhere" to the Emergency Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2006 (H.R. 4929). The Senate's version of the bill for operations in Iraq and Afghanistan and hurricane aid on the Gulf Coast costs $109 billion.

President Bush requested $92.2 billion, and the House passed a $91.9 billion version in March. The "railroad to nowhere," which would use taxpayer funds to purchase and replace a private rail line with a highway benefiting Gulf Coast casinos, is one of dozens of earmarks costing billions of dollars tacked onto the Senate bill. It comes on the heels of the controversy over the $223 million "bridge to nowhere" for Alaska in the 2005 Highway bill.

For fattening the deficit, classifying an unnecessary project as "emergency" spending, and failing to learn the lessons of the infamous "bridge to nowhere," Sens. Cochran and Lott are Co-Porkers of the Month for May 2006.

More stories of broken promises. This segment talks about 401k plans and explains some of the problems. As an example they talk about the lack of participation about 25% - 30% don't join a plan. Less than 3% contribute the maximum allowed.

Allowing these companies to offer a retirement fund of any kind and not funding it fully to me is a crime. They are stealing from their employees and should go to jail.

SAVE THE INTERNET - Part 4 of 5

Internet03.jpg

By ADAM COHEN - The New York Times

The companies fighting net neutrality have been waging a misleading
campaign, with the slogan "hands off the Internet," that tries to look like a
grass-roots effort to protect the Internet in its current form. What they
actually favor is stopping the government from protecting the Internet, so
they can get their own hands on it.

But the other side of the debate has some large corporate backers, too, like
Google and Microsoft, which could be hit by access fees since they depend
on the Internet service providers to put their sites on the Web. It also has
support from political groups of all persuasions. The president of the
Christian Coalition, which is allied with Moveon.org on this issue, recently
asked, "What if a cable company with a pro-choice board of directors
decides that it doesn't like a pro-life organization using its high-speed
network to encourage pro-life activities?"

I HAD A PLAN

QUICK STAT

Dubya.jpg AnatomyofRep1.jpg

DON'T CHANGE THE CONSTITUTION

BabyBirth.jpg

The other day I talked about the Washington State republicans adopting a platform that would revoke the constitutional provision granting automatic citizenship to the U.S.-born children of illegal immigrants.

Yesterday on the Dori Monson Show he had a hour discussion about this topic. I wasn't able to listen to the show yesterday but I taped it decided to send him the following email. Dori claims to be an independent just like Bill O'Reilly. I think that's a bunch of BULLSHIT. It would seem to me that if he was a true independent he would find something that democrats do right . In the years I've listened to him I can't think of one thing. You make the call.

Anyway here is what I said: I'd like to vote against this republican plan. It's a dumb idea and I suspect overkill.

The dumbest ideas in the world seem to come from the republicans. Remember they wanted to bring Terri Schiavo back from the dead. Sen. Frist wanted to give everyone $100.00 to solve the gas problem. President Bush wanted to attack Iraq instead of hunt down bin laden and you know WHAT A GREAT IDEA THAT WAS.

Why the hell do the republicans always want to mess with the Constitution. It was written by people that not only had common sense they knew how to use that common sense. These folks are nuts and if they had their way we wouldn't have a Constitution to guide us.

One of your listeners made a good point and you just blew it away. At what age do you send people back. People have come across the boarder for years. I'm thinking there are several generations that came across and are still not citizens. Do you then send ALL the following generations back to a country that they know nothing about. That's crazy.

Yes the republicans have a better idea "IF IT AIN'T BROKE. . . BRAKE IT".

$100,000,000.00 dollars that's what the CEO was given to make this bankruptcy work. Plus he was given special protection to save his pension. The employees on the other hand had their pay cut, pension abolished, and had to pay much of their health care insurance.

This restructuring of business is happening all across the country. The employees are taking it in the shorts and there just doesn't seem to be much they can do.

In this segment you start to see the heart break these employees go through.

HERE WE GO AGAIN

Saw this in todays Washington Post.

Delta Air Lines' pilots union yesterday approved a 14 percent pay cut, eliminating a key hurdle in the airline's struggle to restructure under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and emerge from court supervision by mid-2007.

After more than six months of often-contentious labor talks, 61 percent of Delta's 6,000 pilots agreed to $280 million-a-year in pay and benefits cuts as part of a 3 1/2 -year contract.

The agreement follows earlier concessions. In 2004, Delta's pilots agreed to a wage cut of nearly 33 percent as part of a five-year deal designed to save the airline about $1 billion a year.

In addition to the pilot agreement, the bankruptcy court judge yesterday removed another potential obstacle to Delta's transformation. The court ruled against an objection to Delta's proposal to terminate its pension plan. The Pension Benefit Guaranty Corp., the federal agency that insures pension benefits, opposed the proposal.

It looks to me like the plan as laid out by United worked so well Delta is following it exactly.

SAVE THE INTERNET - Part 3 of 5

Internet03.jpg

By ADAM COHEN - The New York Times

A tiered Internet poses a threat at many levels. Service providers
could, for example, shut out Web sites whose politics they dislike.
Even if they did not discriminate on the basis of content, access
fees would automatically marginalize smaller, poorer Web sites.

Consider online video, which depends on the availability of higher-speed
connections. Internet users can now watch channels, like BBC World, that
are not available on their own cable systems, and they have access to
video blogs and Web sites like YouTube.com, where people upload videos
of their own creation. Under tiered pricing, Internet users might be
able to get videos only from major corporate channels.

Sir Tim expects that there are great Internet innovations yet to come,
many involving video. He believes people at the scene of an accident -
or a political protest - will one day be able to take pictures with
their cellphones that could be pieced together to create a
three-dimensional image of what happened. That sort of innovation
could be blocked by fees for the high-speed connections required to
relay video images.
