CONGRESS IS ASKED TO RAISE DEBT LIMIT

NatDebt2005.jpg

Treasury Secretary John W. Snow said yesterday that the United States could be UNABLE to pay its bills in early 2006 unless Congress raises the government's borrowing authority, which is now capped at $8.18 trillion.

Snow, in a letter to lawmakers, estimated that the government is expected to bump into the statutory debt limit around the middle of February.

Looks to me like we are there already. I captured the above image just last night and it looks like we are already there.

Snow's letter did not say how much of a boost to the current debt limit the department would like to see this time. Instead, Snow implored, "I am writing to request that Congress raise the statutory debt limit as soon as possible."

Each citizen's share of this debt is $27,477.52.

LOBBYIST, PROSECUTORS SAID CLOSE TO DEAL

JackAber.jpg

Federal prosecutors and lawyers for Republican lobbyist Jack Abramoff consulted briefly Friday with a federal judge in Miami as they put the finishing touches on a plea deal that could be announced as early as Tuesday.

The plea agreement would secure the lobbyist's testimony against several members of Congress who received favors from him or his clients.

For the past two weeks, pressure has been intensifying on Abramoff to strike a deal with prosecutors since his former business partner, Adam Kidan, pleaded guilty to fraud and conspiracy in connection with the 2000 SunCruz deal.

In a five-year span ending in early 2004, Indian tribes represented by the lobbyist contributed millions of dollars in casino income to congressional campaigns, often routing the money through political action committees for conservative members of Congress who opposed gambling.

Abramoff also provided trips, skybox fundraisers, golf fees, frequent meals, entertainment and jobs for lawmakers' relatives and aides.

I hear that train a coming. . .

SUPPORT THE TROOPS, OPPOSE THE WAR

TLB001a.jpg TLB002a.jpg

Regarding the Dec. 25 "Litmus Test for Troop Support" article:

I would like to refute the notion that one cannot be supportive of our troops while also being anti-war. Let me first enumerate ways in which I lend my support to our soldiers:

  • Via tax dollars, a sizable portion of which contributes directly to the defense department budget.
  • By staying informed and involved in our government's policies.
  • Most importantly, by my desire not to place our citizens in harm's way for a fabricated purpose.

Like Vietnam, our involvement in Iraq has resulted in loss of life with no resolution to the initial motivations for conflict. Add to this the ever-changing justifications for our presence in Iraq, and one is compelled to take issue with quoted veteran Dave Allfrey's echoing of the administration's "stay the course" mantra. And his contention that war protesters serve to encourage al-Qaida and "terrorist insurgents" is ludicrous - I would argue that the war itself is more than sufficient provocation for their aggression!

Kudos to Reps. Norm Dicks and John Murtha who have the strength to admit that they erred in their initial support of the war and are now demanding withdrawal of our troops. As Mark Twain observed: "An inglorious peace is better than a dishonorable war".

I saw this letter to the editor in the 12/29/5 issue of the Kitsap Sun. It's in response to the 12/25/5 article, in which it was suggested that if you don't support the war you can't support the Troops. To which I say BULLSHIT.

The purpose of decent is to provide some checks and balance and it has nothing to do with supporting the Troops. It has everything to do with keeping our public officials honest and hold them responsible for there actions and decisions.

I use The Charge Of The Light Brigade as an example of why decent is needed. Had there been any decent back then maybe this tragedy could have been averted. It may not be a great analogy but I think you can see my meaning.

SBA FINDS 9/11 LOAN RECIPIENTS INELIGIBLE

SBAatWork.jpg

In a program to help businesses after Sept. 11, a high percentage of government-backed loans went to recipients who appeared to be unqualified - some of them unaware they were receiving terrorism-recovery money, investigators report.

The Small Business Administration's inspector general said Wednesday that agency officials were at fault for telling lenders in the program that their determinations would not be questioned.

The inspector general concluded that only nine loan recipients in the 59 cases sampled appeared to be qualified for disaster loans.

Lenders who handed out billions of dollars in loans failed - 85 percent of the time - to document that recipients were actually hurt by the terrorism attacks and therefore eligible for the aid under the law, the report found.

_Only two of 42 borrowers interviewed were aware they had obtained a STAR loan.

_In cases where eligibility could not be established, 25 of 34 borrowers interviewed said they were not adversely affected by the terrorist attacks.

_Thirty-six of 42 borrowers questioned said they were not asked, or could not recall if they were asked, about the impact of the attacks on their businesses.

Meanwhile, small businesses near Ground Zero in New York couldn't get the assistance they desperately sought.

UPDATE ON MY SOCKS

Scoks01.jpg

I had another Dr. appoint today this time it was with a foot Dr. that my Primary Dr. had me go to.

I mentioned the problem I had getting the socks that my Primary Dr had prescribed for me on my 12/28/5 post.

Well I talked to the Dr at today's appointment and told him the problem I ran into with the $65.00 price on these socks. He suggested I check his price and I might be surprised.

Well I did and he had the exact sock that my Dr. had prescribed and at a price that was fair $20.00. So I save myself $45.00 bucks.

It pays to shop around.

NASCAR FOLLOW UP

I sent an email to the State Auditors office asking what would happen should the NASCAR Track fail. I was talking about the post I made on 12/26/5 in it I was talking about a letter to the editor. In part here is what I asked the Auditor.

The writer seems to be suggesting that there is NO RISK to the taxpayers or the State should this project fail. That sure would be nice but I fear that with some good lawyers that may not be true.

Some attorney called me and he said that it was to early in the process to know what might or might not happen. I thought that was a really dumb answer and think the reason he called vs. email is there is no record of what he said. Yea I know there's a conspiracy around every corner.

Anyway I told him I was just interested in the PROCEDURE not that it would happen.

He then said that all of that would be negotiated by a bunch of lawyers.

His damn cell phone was just awful and I was missing words when he talked so I said thanks for the call.

He didn't or wouldn't answer my question so I'll try and figure out who I should contact next. More to come.

Olbermann Calls On Gibson To "Acknowledge What He Said" & Resign On Christmas day.

On Tuesday night, Olbermann threw another log on to the fire and poured on some gasoline as he made complaints about the Worst Person in the World award the #3 story on Countdown.

Gibson accused Olbermann of misquoting him, so Olbermann played the full audio tape of Gibson's statement about religion.

"Ordinarily when somebody gets caught saying something as intolerant as this, their choices are:

  • a) to apologize,
  • b) to resign, or
  • c) to make sure there's no tape and try to lie their way out of it,"

Olbermann said. "John chose "d" -- blame it on somebody else."

"The audio clip is the definitive answer, and I would hope John would now have the self-respect to acknowledge what he said, and to leave the airwaves for good. Because, between the remark and the denial, he has -- sadly -- forfeited his right to stay here."

CHRIS MATTHEWS: 2005'S MISINFORMER OF THE YEAR

CMmisInform.jpg

Media Matters for America has monitored, analyzed, and corrected conservative misinformation in the media, wherever and whenever they find it.

Last year Media Matters for America named it's first annual "Misinformer of the Year." They singled out one particularly egregious purveyor of falsehoods and awarded Bill O'Reilly the dubious title.

This year, of all the news anchors, columnists, pundits, and reporters whose work they've critiqued and corrected, one man stands alone as a clear successor to the O'Reilly throne.

We are pleased to announce broadcast journalist, former newspaper bureau chief, former presidential speechwriter, and best-selling author Chris Matthews has earned the title of 2005's "Misinformer of the Year."

At times, it has even been difficult to tell the difference between 2005's Misinformer of the Year and his predecessor.

I've listed one liners here of the basic statement that Chris Matthews has said. For the complete story click on Visit the site below.

  • Chris: George Bush sometimes "glimmers" with "sunny nobility."
  • Chris: "Everybody sort of likes the president, except for the real whack-jobs ..."
  • Chris: George Bush "belongs on Mount Rushmore."
  • Matthews on the filibuster debate: Democrats are "just sort of pouting and bitching."
  • Matthews repeatedly smeared Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton.
  • Matthews falsely claimed Democrats accused Alito of being "lenient on the mob."
  • Matthews made false claim about Jan. 30 Iraqi election.
  • Matthews distorted poll data to claim Catholics are increasingly Republican.
  • Matthews's panels consistently skew to the right.
  • Matthews distorted Murtha's Iraq proposal.
  • Matthews resurrected false claim that Saddam let Sunni fundamentalists "come in for ... training."
  • Matthews falsely insisted that the ongoing insurgency in Iraq was unexpected.
  • Matthews falsely attacked Wilson over Niger trip's genesis.
  • Matthews mischaracterized Democratic efforts to complete intel probe as "disingenuous," "using crocodile tears."

The customer is very impressed and thinks, "This is really cool." He decides to test the robot. He walks out of the bar, turns around, and comes back in for another drink. Again, the robot serves him the perfectlty prepared drink and asks him, "What's your IQ?"

The man responds, "about a 100."

Immediately the robot starts talking, but this time, about football, NASCAR, baseball, supermodels, favorite fast foods, guns, and women's breasts.

Really impressed, the man leaves the bar and decides to give the robot one more test. He heads out and returns, the robot serves him and asks, "What's your IQ?"

The man replies, "Er, 50, I think."

And the robot says... real slowly... "So............... ya gonna vote for Bush again?"

In the War on Christmas, there were no winners because for all but the most retarded members of our society, there was nothing whatsoever at stake.

In considering the vast history of Christianity and the dire trials its adherents faced in the past (and still do in far-flung places on the globe), it's a little hard to feel for people whose freely-practicable faith is rocked to its firmament because the shopgirl at Restoration Hardware doesn't break into a spontaneous chorus of "O Holy Night" at the completion of every tendered transaction.

ARE THEY NUTS. . . OR IS IT JUST ME

SocksRus.jpg

I had a doctors appointment today. It's my annual check up. I have some problems with my lower legs and the blood circulation. So my doc wrote up a prescription for two pair of socks. Yes I said socks. Knee high support socks to be exact.

It's the first time in my life I had a prescription for socks. Hell I thought I could just go to Costco and buy 24 pair but no I needed a prescription to get these hi mucky-mucky socks.

Well I went to the Medical Supply place that was near by to pick up a pair of these new socks. As I walked in the place a sales person came running (I don't think that's a good sign.) Anyway, she took my prescription and went to here desk. She asked me if I had medical insurance. I said yes, KPS. She said how about Social Security. I said yes Part A. She said maybe we can see if they will pay for this.

At first I didn't get it, I'm buying a pair of socks for god's sakes. Then she told me the cost. These two pair of socks would cost, drum roll please . . . $65.00 plus tax. That's $65.00. I said BULLSHIT (well no I didn't but I wanted to).

I told the gal I'm not paying that much money and I don't care if Social Security picks up the whole thing they aren't either. You go Mick!!! You show them.

So I left and went across the street to another place. I told the gal there my problem and she was sympathetic but she said they don't carry socks. Bummer. She also said that place tends to be more expensive. But she gave me another place up the street that might help me.

I went to the third place and could get the socks for $60.00. I said I'd think about it.

So here I am home without my socks. Tonight I'm going out on the WEB and do a little research and see if I can get them for at least half the price. I wonder if I can get them from Canada? Would the CDC, USGA, FCC, NRA, RNC, NCAA, LBJ, TWA, IBM or UCLA come after my sore ass and take me away.

Time will tell.

PROPOSED ISLAND NASCAR TRACK TICKS OFF SEATTLE

ShowMeTheMoney1.jpg

Doesn't it piss anyone off that International Speedway Corp.'s open-wallet approach to building a NASCAR track on Staten Island, New York while at the same time the developer wants the government to help fund a new track in Kitsap County.

ISC wants to build an 83,000-seat, $345 million track in Kitsap County, Wash., around 50 miles away from Seattle, and it's asking the state to fund half of that cost with bonds and admission fees.

The motor sports giant doesn't think Washington compares with New York, but some Northwest track critics see ISC's plan to foot the entire $500 million-$600 million bill for its proposed Staten Island track and wonder why the developer can't do the same thing in Kitsap.

ISC has committed to paying all of the $600 million for a new track on Staten Island in New York. With the sport awash in fans, Fortune 500 sponsors and television revenues, backers should find a way to pay for the track here. You did notice that $600 million for New York vs. $350 million here in Kitsap.

An earlier track proposal from ISC in Snohomish County, Wash., fell through last year, in part because the developer and the local government couldn't come to terms on financing.

Now are you saying that the folks in Snohomish are smarter than us in Kitsap County. I guess we'll know the answer to that question when we find out if it's a go or no go for State funding of this track.

LITMUS TEST FOR TROOP SUPPORT

SupportTheTroops.jpg

By Elaine Helm, ehelm@kitsapsun.com - December 25, 2005

Some local veterans refuse to accept that you can be supportive of the troops if you oppose the Iraq war.

After serving 27 years in the Army during the Korean and Vietnam wars, Dave Allfrey is blunt about his feelings for Americans who say they oppose war in Iraq but still support U.S. soldiers.

"You can't dislike the war but still like the troops," said Allfrey, a Silverdale resident.

Allfrey's opinion is not uncommon among Kitsap veterans, despite efforts by many Americans - including other local veterans - to separate opposition to the war in Iraq from those fighting it.

Active-duty soldiers, reservists and National Guard troops returning from Iraq or Afghanistan haven't faced the kind of abuse Vietnam veterans experienced.

That's because the American public has been careful to distinguish between war policies and those ordered to carry them out, said Charles Moskos, a prominent military sociologist and professor emeritus at Northwestern University in Illinois.

But people like Allfrey believe sentiment against the war and a desire to end it now harm troop morale and encourage terrorist insurgents.

"If you erode the public support of the war, al-Qaida loves this," Allfrey said.

"We can disagree that maybe we shouldn't have gone there," he added, "but once we were in there - cut and dried - that's it. Everyone supports that."

This article was in the Kitsap Sun the other day and it caught my eye because it makes me wonder why as president Bush has stated that this war is ABOUT DEMOCRACY AND FREEDOM for the people of Iraq. Yet we can't have the same here at home?

I'm a veteran and I feel that the one thing the American people have is the power of their voice. Too often the congress let's us down by not doing the oversight that they should. As we saw in going to war with Iraq the media dropped the ball. We did not have an honest debate before going into this war.

So it takes the voice of decent from the American people to make these changes.

This argument about supporting the troops can only be true if you support the war is BOGUS and BULLSHIT.

Because someone is critical of someone or something does not mean they HATE them and don't support them. For example, if you have children and they do something wrong, you can be very critical of them but that doesn't mean you hate them.

I'm critical of this war but there is no way you can turn that into I HATE our troops or do not support them.

NOW THAT IS BULLSHIT.

With his car up on a lift in the garage where my father worked, the owner of a 1970s Cadillac (with the extra wheel well fenders that covered a fair portion of the tires) asked that all four wheels be rotated such that the valve stems were "pointing up" (and therefore not obstructed by the fender extensions).

This was to ensure that the next time he pulled into a service station to put air into the tires, all four valve stems would be accessible without needing to move the car several times to get access.

Anyway, I responded to his letter here on 12/22/2005 and fell I need to do it again. Here is what he said:

NASCAR

It Won't Cost Taxpayers Anything

Boy! My last letter sure struck a nerve with some of the liberal NASCAR-haters didn't it?

Letter-writer Mr. Denis LaCrosse seems to think that building that track is corporate welfare. One guy from Port Angeles wants to force me to move next to the track. That's interesting! He seems to think that the noise will impact him way up there.

The only thing that ICS is getting from the State - not Kitsap County - is the ability to sell bonds to finance half the cost of that track which will be paid back through increased taxes generated by the facility. It will not cost the County or State taxpayers a dime.

The only risk takers in this whole matter will be the bond-holders. In the unlikely event that ICS goes el foldo, the bon-holders can go after the other 12 racetracks the ICS owns across the nation. That would be much easier than the impossible task of going after the taxpayers.

As with Wal-Mart, if you don't support that store or the track, just don't go and it will cost you nothing. This isn't all that complicated, but the libs just can't or don't want to understand.

G. E. B. Port Orchard

There you go again G. E. B. bashing the liberals as NASCAR HATERS. I swear to God people like you need to find NEW TALKING POINTS. I mean if we're not Hating NASCAR, we're Hating Bush or we're Hating the Troops or we Hate America. I'm just waiting for you to say we Hate Motherhood and Apple Pie.

Plus how do you know it's only "THE LIBERALS" that don't want STATE FUNDING for NASCAR. Isn't that what conservatives stand for, fiscal responsibility and less government?

You'll excuse me I'm sure if I do a little follow up on your statement "The only risk takers in this whole matter will be the bond-holders." I seem to remember reading that that is not exactly how it would work and so I'm doing some research and will Post whatever I find here on my BLOG.

We take pleasure in answering at once and thus prominently the communication below, expressing at the same time our great gratification that its faithful author is numbered among the friends of The Sun:

Dear Editor,

I am 8 years old.

Some of my little friends say there is no Santa Claus.

Papa says, "If you see it in The Sun it's so." Please tell me the truth: Is there a Santa Claus?

Virginia O'Hanlon.

115 West Ninety-Fifth Street.

Virginia, your little friends are wrong. They have been affected by the skepticism of a skeptical age. They do not believe except they see. They think that nothing can be which is not comprehensible by their little minds. All minds, Virginia, whether they be men's or children's, are little. In this great universe of ours man is a mere insect, an ant, in his intellect, as compared with the boundless world about him, as measured by the intelligence capable of grasping the whole of truth and knowledge.

Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. He exists as certainly as love and generosity and devotion exist, and you know that they abound and give your life its highest beauty and joy. Alas! how dreary would be the world if there were no Santa Claus. It would be as dreary as if there were no Virginias.

There would be no childlike faith then, no poetry, no romance to make tolerable this existence. We should have no enjoyment, except in sense and sight. The eternal life with which childhood fills the world would be extinguished.

Not believe in Santa Claus! You might as well not believe in fairies! You might get your papa to hire men to watch in all the chimneys on Christmas Eve to catch Santa Claus, but even if they did not see Santa Claus coming down, what would that prove? Nobody sees Santa Claus, but that is no sign that there is no Santa Claus. The most real things in the world are those that neither children nor men can see. Did you ever see fairies dancing on the lawn? Of course not, but that's no proof that they are not there. Nobody can conceive or imagine all the wonders there are unseen and unseeable in the world.

You may tear apart the baby's rattle and see what makes the noise inside, but there is a veil covering the unseen world which not the strongest man, nor even the united strength of all the strongest men that ever lived, could tear apart. Only faith, fancy, poetry, love, romance, can push aside that curtain and view and picture the supernatural beauty and glory beyond. Is it all real? Ah, Virginia, in all this world there is nothing else real and abiding.

No Santa Claus! Thank God! he lives, and he lives forever. A thousand years from now, Virginia, nay, ten times ten thousand years from now, he will continue to make glad the heart of childhood.

CHRISTMAS EVE 2005

QUICK STAT:

The Prescription Drug program created by the drug manufactures is an example of part of the problem with the government. They took what could have been a good idea and turned it into a plan that costs to much, is impossible to understand and I think won't work.

NICE JOB CONGRESS.

HIGH-SPEED FERRY PLANNED FOR BAY

A sketch of Maritime Applied Physics' planned Chesapeake ferry.

NewFerry.jpg

A Baltimore company, working with researchers from the University of Maryland, said yesterday that it plans to build a high-speed, energy-efficient ferry to run between Baltimore and the Eastern Shore.

The 19-year-old company, Maritime Applied Physics Corp., makes most of its money engineering ships for the Navy and commercial shippers. But last year, the firm's president, Mark Rice, and his team began investigating the possibility of running a ferry service on the Chesapeake Bay.

The company said its intention is to build a fleet of ferries that will carry passengers 18 miles, from Baltimore to Rock Hall in Kent County. The drive to Rock Hall from Baltimore usually takes about two hours, but Rice says his boats will deliver people in about 30 minutes. The boats will not carry cars.

Maybe Washington State Ferry System ought to look at this company. I think the Seattle to Bremerton is about the same distance as in the article.

LETTERMAN RESTRAINED BY TORMENTED FAN

DaveLetterman.jpg

David Letterman has been temporarily restrained by a woman who believes that he torments her over the airwaves using a secret code.

New Mexico resident Colleen Nestler filed court documents late last week, alleging that Letterman has been using code words, gestures and "eye expressions" for more than 10 years to convey his desire to marry her and train her as his cohost.

As a result of Letterman's alleged methods of torture, Nestler claims she has suffered from "mental cruelty" and "sleep deprivation," and has been forced into bankruptcy.

She was granted a temporary restraining order by Santa Fe District Judge Daniel Sanchez, who signed off on her application and set a Jan. 12 court date to determine whether to make the order permanent.

I worry about this woman she obviously needs help. But you know what I REALLY WORRY MORE ABOUT THIS JUDGE. IS HE NUTS?

He can't decide that this is a FRIVOLOUS LAW SUIT right off the bat. May guess is he 's hoping to make some headlines.

I'd hate to have this judge decide any case I was involved in he goes off the deep end and doesn't seem to be able to make a decision based on basic logic.

Vote him out next election New Mexico.

HERE COMES DA JUDGE

HereComesDeJudge.jpg

This is the guy that issued the restraining order against Letterman.

Judge Daniel A. Sanchez is currently the Presiding Judge of the Family Court Division after being assigned to the Civil Division for two years. Judge Daniel Sanchez has now been on the First Judicial District Court Bench for almost 5 years. He was recently retained to his position on the District Court Bench for six more years.

Oh, crap six more years. . . time for a recall I'd say.

KIDS AND CHRISTMAS

As a teacher, Ms. Jones, was very curious about how each of her students celebrated Christmas. She called on young Patrick Murphy. "Tell me Patrick what do you do at Christmas time?" she asked.

Patrick addressed the class, "Well Ms. Jones, me and my twelve brothers andsisters go to the midnight Mass and we sing hymns, then we come home verylate and we put mince pies by the back door and hang up our stockings. Thenall excited we go to bed and wait for Father Christmas to come with all ourtoys."

"Very nice Patrick," she said. "Now Jimmy Brown what do you do atChristmas?"

"Well, Ms. Jones, me and my sister also go to Church with Mum and Dad andwe sing carols and we get home ever so late. We put cookies and milk by the chimney and we hang up our stockings. We hardly sleep, waiting for Santa Claus to bring our presents."

Realizing there was a Jewish boy in the class and not wanting to leave himout of the discussion, she asked, "Now, Isaac Cohen, what do you do at Christmas?"

Isaac said, "Well, it's the same thing every year. Dad comes home from the office. We all pile into the Rolls Royce, then we drive to his toy factory. When we get inside, we look at all the empty shelves and begin to sing 'Whata Friend We Have in Jesus.' Then we all go to the Bahamas."

YOU GO GIRL - Hulk meets his match in drilling fight

MariaCantwell.jpg

Cantwell blocks bid to drill in refuge

Sen. Maria Cantwell, D-Wash., smiles during a Capitol Hill news conference Wednesday after she succeeded in upsetting Sen. Ted Stevens' attempt to open the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to oil drilling. The 1.5 million-acre coastal plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, with the Brooks Range in the distance. Oil exploration in the plain was sought.

Lawmakers have feuded over drilling in Alaska's wilderness for 25 years.

In 1995, leaders of the new Republican majority in Congress thought they had realized a long-sought goal by passing a bill permitting drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR). But President Clinton vetoed the measure.

Emboldened by electoral gains and President Bush's re-election in 2004, Republicans believed they had enough clout to muscle the measure through as part of this year's annual budget process.

But proponents were thwarted again Wednesday as Sen. Maria Cantwell, D-Wash., rounded up enough allies to derail a bid by Sen. Ted Stevens, R-Alaska, to attach the plan to a bill funding Iraq and Afghanistan military operations. Two Republicans and 41 Democrats opted to filibuster the defense bill (Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tenn., joined them at the last minute, a parliamentary move allowing him to seek another vote later).

GOOD NEWS

BadBoyTed.jpg

Ted Stevens Leaving Senate?

He certainly is talking like he's resiging:

"I say goodbye to the Senate tonight." (boo hoo, boo hoo)

-- Sen. Ted Stevens (R-AK), quoted by the Anchorage Daily News, raising questions about whether he would retire after the Senate voted down a measure to allow drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

Good riddance. The Daily Show did a segment on him that was rerun a night or two ago called "who the f**k is Ted Stevens?", noting his involvement in sham hearings about sex on television, his dictatorial approach as chairman of the Appropriations committee, and his impassioned defense of the Bridge to Nowhere. Jon Stewart also pointed out that Stevens is third in line for the presidency currently, saying "we don't have a joke; we just though you should know."

I can't wait to have this looney leave.

RE: WHY DO THEY LIE? . . .BECAUSE THEY CAN'T STAND THE TRUTH

And the 450 FBI files found in the Whitehouse, why does the left cherry pick their lies ?

Its why their radio and news blogs never go further then their own little crowd . You got to admit to their own power corrupted system, before you can challenge another's power corrupted system . Trust me, their is enough corruption to go around .

From: Mick H.

As I said "BECAUSE THEY CAN'T STAND THE TRUTH".

If we need to go back and re hash the Clinton Presidency again to point out the problems with the Bush administration so be it.

I hope you can stand the TRUTH. Here we go.

Filegate was the name attached to the FBI files. You remember that everything Clinton did the RIGHT put a "GATE" on it. Maybe we should do that for Bush. TortureGate, IraqGate, LeakGate, PillGate, TaxCutGate, LieGate, and SpyGate to name a few.

Filegate was a White House scandal in June of 1996. Craig Livingstone, head of White House Security in the White House improperly requested, and received from the FBI, personnel files without asking permission of the subject individuals. Estimates range from 350 to 900 unauthorized file disclosures. The incident caused a firestorm of criticism because many of the files covered White House employees from previous Republican administrations.

OK, Mick S. here's the thing. . . are you sitting down.

In March 2000, Independent Counsel Robert Ray determined that there was NO CREDIBLE EVIDENCE of any criminal activity. Ray's report further stated "there was no substantial and credible evidence that any senior White House official, or first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton, was involved" in seeking the files.

OK, can we bury this one once and for all? Just 4000 more lies about Clinton to debunk.

I don't know who listens to the radio or reads the BLOGS so I'm not sure what that means. I know that I get about 200 visitors a day to my BLOG and if they like it they come back if not so what.

As I said you don't worry about people with NO POWER.

If you think I'm unfair to criticize President Bush I'd like to suggest you look at "The Hunting of the President" DVD. Then tell me who is unfair.

File the Bin Laden Phone Leak Under 'Urban Myths'

ObinLad.jpg

President Bush asserted this week that the news media published a U.S. government leak in 1998 about Osama bin Laden's use of a satellite phone, alerting the al Qaeda leader to government monitoring and prompting him to abandon the device.

The story of the vicious leak that destroyed a valuable intelligence operation was first reported by a best-selling book, validated by the Sept. 11 commission and then repeated by the president.

But it appears to be an urban myth.

The al Qaeda leader's communication to aides via satellite phone had already been reported in 1996 -- and the source of the information was another government, the Taliban, which ruled Afghanistan at the time.

The second time a news organization reported on the satellite phone, the source was bin Laden himself.

Causal effects are hard to prove, but other factors could have persuaded bin Laden to turn off his satellite phone in August 1998. A day earlier, the United States had fired dozens of cruise missiles at his training camps, missing him by hours.

Bush made his assertion at a news conference Monday, in which he defended his authorization of warrantless monitoring of communications between some U.S. citizens and suspected terrorists overseas. He fumed that "the fact that we were following Osama bin Laden because he was using a certain type of telephone made it into the press as the result of a leak." He berated the media for "revealing sources, methods and what we use the information for" and thus helping "the enemy" change its operations.

NOW LET THE SPIN BEGIN

I work for a cable company, and this is without a doubt the stupidest question a customer has ever called in with. It was during a blizzard, which had knocked out power in the many areas.

  • Customer: "Hi, my cable is out."
  • Me: "Ok, do you have power?"
  • Customer: "No, but my cable is out."
  • Me: "Well sir, if your power is out you wouldn't get cable."
  • Customer: "Why the hell not? What does my power have to do with cable?"
  • Me: "Well sir, without power you--"
  • Customer: "Look, just get my cable working. Send someone out."

Then he hung up, without so much as giving his name or address.

Abramoff Reportedly Negotiating a Deal in Which He Would Plead Guilty, Testify

ABRAMOFF_122205.jpg

Former lobbyist Jack Abramoff, facing trial on fraud charges Jan. 9 in Florida, is negotiating a possible deal with the Justice Department, in which he would agree to plead guilty and cooperate in the wide-ranging political corruption investigation focused on his dealings with members of Congress and executive branch officials, people familiar with the talks said last night.

Abramoff would provide testimony about numerous members of Congress and their staffs if he and the Justice Department reach an agreement, the sources said. Negotiations have been ongoing for several months, people knowledgeable about the discussions said, but pressure is mounting because of the pending trial.

Abramoff's co-defendant in that case, Adam Kidan, agreed last week to plead guilty to conspiracy and wire fraud, and to testify against his former business partner. Abramoff would face significant jail time in any plea deal, the sources said.

The pressure on Abramoff to reach a deal increased with Kidan's plea and the November guilty plea by another Abramoff business partner -- public relations executive Michael Scanlon.

WHY DO THEY LIE? . . .BECAUSE THEY CAN'T STAND THE TRUTH

MoreLies02.jpg

The right-wing outlet NewsMax sums up the basic argument:

During the 1990's under President Clinton, the National Security Agency monitored millions of private phone calls placed by U.S. citizens and citizens of other countries under a super secret program code-named Echelon…all of it done without a court order, let alone a catalyst like the 9/11 attacks.

That's flatly false. The Clinton administration program, code-named Echelon, complied with FISA. Before any conversations of U.S. persons were targeted, a FISA warrant was obtained. CIA director George Tenet testified to this before Congress.

LOGIC ISN'T WASTED ON THIS RIGHTIE

December 21, 2005 - NASCAR

Duplicity by Dems

The Democrats in our Legislature used blackmail. They said that if I-912 passed, everyone could forget the new NASCAR track. But I-912 didn't pass - and now they are coming up with excuses for why the track should never happen.

Does anyone truly believe that they ever intended to approve that track? What part of "only taxes generated by the track will be used to pay off the bonds" do the liberals not understand? If it isn't built, there will be no new taxes. If it is built, the new taxes will be pure gravy to the taxpayers after 25 years when the bonds are paid off.

I just wish that the lefties would come out and say why they don't want that track. The reason, of course, is that like Christians and our military personnel, who they also dislike, NASCAR fans are generally conservative and vote Republican.

G. E. B. - Port Orchard

The above Letter to the Editor was in the 12/21/05 edition of the Kitsap Sun. I haven't said much about the NASCAR Track in Kitsap County except that I don't want any TAXES used to pay for it. But this letter caught my eye and need to talk about it.

First. . .NASCAR is a 3-4 BILLION DOLLAR Company that wants to build a similar track in New York for over $650 million dollars, the Kitsap track is about $350 million. The difference is that NASCAR will pay THE WHOLE COST OF NEW YORK unlike here they want us to pay half.

How does that make you feel.

The writer says What part of 'only taxes generated by the track will be used to pay off the bonds' do the liberals not understand? If it isn't built, there will be no new taxes. If it is built, the new taxes will be pure gravy to the taxpayers after 25 years when the bonds are paid off.

I have yet to hear anyone explain how this so called "TRACK TAX" is defined. What makes anyone feel that NASCAR will be around in 25 years. I've heard that each year the race schedule is redone and there is no guarantee that there will be a race scheduled here until it has been finalized.

Then the writer goes all bananas with the following.

I just wish that the lefties would come out and say why they don't want that track. The reason, of course, is that like Christians and our military personnel, who they also dislike, NASCAR fans are generally conservative and vote Republican.

This guy has now gone from making an argument that I disagree with which simply means we disagree. . .no big deal. To the standard TALKING POINTS of the FAR RIGHT. The "they hate everything and everyone crowd."

How the HELL Christians and the Troops figure in this race track takes a sick kind of logic. The kind of logic that worries me because there is NO LOGIC and there can never be an honest and open debate with such a closed mind.

CALL ME STUPID, BUT I DON'T GET IT

SpySpy.jpg

President George W. Bush, caught up in a domestic spying controversy, for the past two years has assured Americans worried about expanded government anti-terrorism powers that court orders were needed to tap telephones.

In 2004 and 2005, Bush repeatedly argued that the controversial Patriot Act package of anti-terrorism laws safeguards civil liberties because US authorities still need a warrant to tap telephones in the United States.

"Any time you hear the United States government talking about wiretap, it requires -- a wiretap requires a court order," he said on April 20, 2004 in Buffalo, New York.

Far as I can tell there was no need for this to have happen. The FISA law gave them all the power they needed. To me it's just the MUCHO, IN YOUR FACE ATTITUDE they have used for the past 4 years.

They say that now that the New York Times came out with this spying news some how our national security has been compromised. What BULLSHIT is that. Do you really believe that Osama Bin Laden waits at his cave entrance each day for his copy of the NY Times so he can figure out what the U.S. is doing to find him.

The other thing I've noticed is that when they get caught with their hands in the cookie jar they fall back on some how it's all Clinton's fault. Is there ever any truth coming from this administration on anything?

SHIITE ALLIANCE LEADS IN PARTIAL IRAQ COUNT

Secular Parties Failing to Win Broad Support

The first results from Iraq's national parliamentary election showed powerful support for the leading Shiite Muslim religious alliance, and suggested that the country's splintered politics have coalesced into a few large political groups divided along ethnic and religious lines.

Election officials announced unofficial results Monday from 11 of Iraq's 18 provinces and Baghdad, the largest city, showing the Shiite alliance leading overwhelmingly in central and southern Iraq. As expected, a coalition of Kurds dominated the north, while votes from the mainly Sunni Muslim western provinces have not been reported.

This is bad news for the Bush administration. What can they say, what can they do, this was a free election but it didn't go the way they would like.

JUDGE RULES AGAINST 'INTELLIGENT DESIGN'

ID002.jpg IntellDesign.jpg

Dover, Pa., District Can't Teach Evolution Alternative

A federal judge barred a Pennsylvania school district yesterday from mentioning "intelligent design" as an alternative to evolutionary theory in a scathing opinion that criticized local school board members for lying under oath and for their "breathtaking inanity" in trying to inject religion into science classes.

U.S. District Judge John E. Jones III, a Republican appointed by President Bush, did not confine his opinion to the missteps of a local school board. Instead he explicitly sought to vanquish intelligent design, the argument that aspects of life are so complex as to require the hand, subtle or not, of a supernatural creator. This theory, he said, relies on the unprovable existence of a Christian God and therefore is not science.

The judge got it right. I.D. is NOT SCIENCE.

Today I'm starting a new feature I call RightVsLeft2.jpg. This all came about after one of my BLOG visitors sent me a comment which I returned with a reply. He then replied to my reply and so I suggested that if he didn't mind I would post them.

Well today I got another message from him and so I figured I better follow through else he would accuse me of being a Right Winger dressed in Left Wing clothes.

Just for background. I don't know this guy and he doesn't know me. We do share some things in common, our names. He is Mick S and I'm Mick H. We are both Irish but I'm also half Norwegian. He didn't say if he was part anything else. He thinks from the Right side of his brain I from the left. This might be interesting.

So here we go with the first issue.

RightVsLeft2.jpg

Mick S: I have been checking in every day , but all you do is rail against the right .... Obviously the left makes a mistake once in a while ?

Anyway , the 3000 victims at the World Trade Center had their Civil Rights attacked also , somehow I think some of yo guys have forgotten this.

A Clinton or a Bush would do everything they could not to have that happen but I can understand your belief a method is wrong , just like the 450 or so FBI files found in the white house , ehhh I guess they were just republicans files but I understand you consider them terrorists , but like you said once you loose trust , its hard to get it back.

So I will give one more day , and see if you come up with anything newsworthy that does not have a political slant to it . In case you can't , Have a Merry Christmas , Happy Holiday , and a great year.

Best regards ,,, Mick S.

Yep your right about the attack on the WTC. Let's see it was Saddam that told the crazy b*******s to crash the planes right? No, no it was old what's his name. . . Bin, Bin. . . Osama Bin Laden. WHY CONGRESS GETS SUCH LOW MARKS

tedstevens.jpg

House lawmakers opened the way for oil drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge as one of their last acts of an all-night session Monday bringing their legislative year to a close.

The House also narrowly passed a plan to cut deficits by almost $40 billion over five years in legislation hailed by GOP conservatives as a sign their party was returning to fiscal discipline and assailed by Democrats as victimizing medical and education programs that help the poor.

Like the pay raises they give themselves in the middle of the night they attach amendments to bills that have nothing to do with the main bill but get passed because the only way to get rid of the amendment is to vote down the main bill. Does that make any sense except in congress.

Ted (I'll build a bridge to nowhere) Stevens is the guy behind this BULLSHIT.

Do you remember Old Ted Stevens' October 20 threat to resign if the funding for the two bridges were cut. He didn't and they weren't cut either.

What congress did was to simply eliminate the requirement that the money be spent on the two specific bridges.

"The change will not save the federal government any money. Instead, the $442 million will be turned over to the state with no strings attached, allowing lawmakers and the governor there to parcel it out for transportation projects as they see fit, including the bridges should they so choose.

Then he went on this kick of steadfast support of drilling for oil in Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR), which is currently banned.

Stevens has said he will not approve any budget bill compromise that does not include it. So like the Pigs at the trough that they are congress voted for drilling.

LIKE THAT'S GOING TO SOLVE OUR ENERGY PROBLEM.

WE NEED A NATIONAL TERM LIMITS LAW. . . BAD.

One last thing. This guy is so deep into the Big Oil Companies that he even want's to mess around with allowing big oil tankers into to Puget Sound.

The stat that means the most in this war in Iraq. I know that many say the Iraqi death count is a made up number. But I think it's closer to reality than the 30,000 number that President Bush used the other night.

Whatever the number it's too high and needs to end.

WHAT DO YOU THINK

PresBush_121805.jpg

Did the President change your opinion last night? He didn't change mine. The war on TERROR is not just in Iraq. Yes, I know that we can't just pull out now, we need to at least give them a chance but that shouldn't be forever.

I think the president has lost the support for the EXACT SAME REASON that Johnson and Nixon did. . . and that is with lies and deceit.

Now we hear about spying on Americans and the TALKING POINTS say "WELL CONGRESS KNEW ABOUT THIS AND SAID NOTHING". Well DUH, they would have broken the law themselves if they had. Plus remember this was just a very small group of people, I think about 8.

Once you lose the trust of the public it's hard to get it back if not impossible.

As I said yesterday is the president becoming over exposed? He's doing a news conference in just a few minutes.

TIME MAGAZINE PERSONS OF THE YEAR

PersonOfTheYear.jpg

The Good Samaritans

The good deeds of an activist rock legend and one of the world's richest men and his wife carried the day in 2005, as Time magazine on Sunday named U2 frontman Bono and philanthropic couple Bill and Melinda Gates as its "Persons of the Year."

Bono is a co-founder of the DATA (Debt, AIDS, Trade, Africa) organization, which fights poverty and HIV in the developing world. From that organization was spawned the ONE Campaign to Make Poverty History.

The magazine said that while sudden disasters grab the headlines, other tragedies unfold daily.

"And who is proving most effective in figuring out how to eradicate those calamities? In different ways, it is Bill and Melinda Gates, co-founders of the world's wealthiest charitable foundation, and Bono, the Irish rocker who has made debt reduction sexy," Time's managing editor Jim Kelly writes.

In January, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation committed $750 million to improving access to child immunizations, accelerating introduction of new vaccines and strengthening vaccine delivery systems.

The foundation focuses on education, global health, improving public libraries and supporting at-risk families, according to its Web site. The Gateses awarded grants to schools in Texas, Colorado and Massachusetts, as well as the Lutheran World Relief program, which received $640,000.

TALK ABOUT COURAGE

ShawnSprings.jpg

Shawn Springs Was Willing to Give Up His Kidney and Career

If his father needs him, Shawn Springs says he will walk away from the money, the celebrity and the glamorous lifestyle of a professional athlete. The Washington Redskins cornerback, upon learning several years ago that his father needed a kidney transplant, offered one of his own, knowing he would not be allowed to play pro football with just one kidney.

But his father, Ron, the former Dallas Cowboys fullback who suffers from complications related to diabetes -- he had a foot amputated this year -- declined the offer and would not let his son even be tested to see if he is a transplant match.

"I think that was a tremendous gesture, and it just justifies the fact that he's a loving son," Ron Springs said by telephone from his Dallas home this past week. "But I couldn't have let him do that, because I always prayed and wanted him to be a professional athlete, so I would not have shortened his career by no means necessary."

IT'S ALL ABOUT MANAGEMENT

Some time ago I worked for an independent TV station in Northern Ontario. The transmitter was off the air, and it was my job to go to the transmitter site to restore service. Before I left the station manager asked me why there was no sound or picture. I explained the transmitter was off, and I was on my way to fix the problem. He then instructed me to ask master control to run an announcement that we were off the air and would be back on as soon as possible.

LOTS OF NEWS TODAY

QUICK STAT:

GasPrices.jpg

I buy my gas at COSTCO and track my purchases back to January 2002 when I bought my SUV. Thank god I don't drive much, about 5000 miles per year, but I'll tell you the price will not dIp below $2.00 per gal now that it is over the 2 dollar mark.

Do you think I'm wrong?

TAX CUTS FOR WHO???

Well congress has made the hard choice. They want to CUT FOOD STAMPS, MEDICAID, FOSTER CARE, AND STUDENT LOANS.

But they also want to give a tax break to . . . you know what's coming right? Check out the images and see what you can expect. I of course fall into high end so you'll hear from me next from Hawaii.

Where are you going with you big BREAK?

OVER EXPOSED

Has George Bush become over exposed? He's been on TV so much over the past 3-4 weeks I feel like he's part of the day time schedule.

He'll be on again tonight.

IS SHE ABOUT READY TO CRY

ConnieRice.jpg

Connie Rice was on Meet the Press today and I swear that as she struggled to explain what law Bush used to spy on American. In fact look at the picture and you'll see she looks like she is about to cry.

I don't think she made the case for Bush to do what he did.

One other thing I don't get and that is like the argument they made about the fact that congress had all the same intelligence that the president had was later shown to be false. Well now they said that congress knew about this Bush policy and didn't say a thing. Well DUH. . . they would have had to break the law and their oath of office if the said anything.

So it turns out their hands were tied.

WHAT'S WITH JOHN McCAIN

JohnMc.jpg

I am starting to get bad vibes about John McCain. He seems to be losing that sense of being a maverick and more like being JUST A GOOD OLE BOY.

He could not seem to bring himself to say the Bush was wrong in ordering the spying on Americans. There are other instances of him doing the same thing on other issues.

I think he's running to hard for 2008.

While on a flight from New York, the Stewardess was busy passing out peanuts and cokes to everyone. There were about sixteen flights lined up waiting to get clearance to take off. Then the other Stewardess got a message from the Pilot that the tower said the wind had changed 180 degrees and they were first in line to take off, and to have everyone buckle up. Without thinking she just announced "Please buckle up, grab your drinks and hold your nuts, we're taking off", No one saw her for the rest of the flight to Houston, and all the other Stewardesses were laughing all the way and half of the passengers.

ARE YOU SURPRISED

Report: Bush Had More Prewar Intelligence Than Congress

A congressional report made public yesterday (12/15/5) concluded that President Bush and his inner circle had access to more intelligence and reviewed more sensitive material than what was shared with Congress when it gave Bush the authority to wage war against Iraq.

Democrats said the 14-page report contradicts Bush's contention that lawmakers saw all the evidence before U.S. troops invaded in March 2003, stating that the president and a small number of advisers "have access to a far greater volume of intelligence and to more sensitive intelligence information."

Before I retired I was part of management. I never had any doubts that my boss had more information than I did. It was always filtered by the time I got it. I believe that it was always slanted in the direction that they wanted to go.

I remember at one time we had a Captain that wanted to create openness and free thinking and so we all went to what I called "Feel Good Seminars and Retreats". It didn't work because of upper managements perceived loss of control.

To bad cause it might have been a good thing to get some fresh ideas.

I WORRY

I received a letter from someone that said he liked my BLOG but that he "was more conservative so I disagree with many of your opinions" which is fine. As a result it caused me to send the following reply and gave me an idea to add an on going Headline called "I worry".

Thanks for the comment on my BLOG, I enjoy putting it together each day.

You said you are more conservative so you disagree with many of my opinions. I scratch my head and wonder how could that be.

  • I worry over the more than 2153 troops that have died in a war of choice. You don't really believe that there was a connection between Saddam and 9/11 do you.
  • I worry about a trade deficit that is close to $70 billion dollars.
  • I worry about the disconnect between America and the Troops. What sacrifice have we made.
  • I worry that we will build a NASCAR Racetrack with taxpayer dollars and like the Bremerton Golden Tunnel we (the people) won't be able to stop it.
  • I worry that we have to many LIFE TIME congressmen that don't seem to look out for the people they represent.
  • I worry that a Medicare Drug Program is so screwed up that most people don't understand it and even if it has some benefits (which I doubt) they won't take advantage of it.
  • I worry that the Religious Right is the only voice that is getting through and that really worries me because that's been the problem throughout history when people can not compromise but hold on to an ideology that is my way or the highway.
  • I worry about the $226 billion and rising that we've spent on Iraq. I wonder what we could have done with that kind of money in America.
  • I worry about the $8 trillion National Debt that my kids and grandkids will have to pay.
  • I worry that no one in this current administration can admit they made a mistake, about anything.
  • I worry that Donald Rumsfeld is in charge of Defense.
  • I worry that congress has so little to do that they can spend time on the BOGUS Christmas issue. But then I remembered they came back to talk about the Terri Schiavo case.
  • I worry that given a chance they will screw up Social Security.
  • I worry that Bill O'Reilly's head will one day explode.
  • I DON'T WORRY ABOUT THE ATTACK ON CHRISTMAS.

These are just some of the things I worry and think about. I don't know if I'm conservative, liberal or independent my guess is all three.

Anyway hope you continue to read my BLOG, but I'm running out of Yogi stuff and will need to go to George Bush sayings to get me through for awhile.

Prosecutors in DeLay Case Look Into Ties With Lobbyist

Texas prosecutors in the criminal case against Representative Tom DeLay revealed in subpoenas made public Tuesday that they were investigating ties between Mr. DeLay and a lobbyist who is at the center of a bribery scandal that prompted another House Republican to resign from Congress last month.

The subpoenas sought documents from the lobbyist, Brent Wilkes, a California businessman whose lawyers have confirmed that he is one of four unnamed co-conspirators listed in the criminal charges against former Representative Randy Cunningham, the California Republican who pleaded guilty to taking at least $2.4 million in bribes.

Bet DeLay would like to be on a golfing trip right about now, don't you think.

THE UN-WINNABLE WAR

HowardDean120805.jpg

Now their going after Howard Dean for saying we can't win in Iraq (something I agree with by the way). Dean used a Vietnam analogy to talk about where we are now in Iraq (see the images).

I happen to agree that we have been misled if not lied to in this war. That we are not wining this war. As a bit of proof I read about a letter home a solider that was killed in IRAQ had written to his parents just two weeks before he died.

In it he said they were going back into Fallujah for the third time to clean out the insurgents. They don't have enough troops to not only clean it out but to stay and prevent them from coming back. Thus they return again and again to clean it out. I'm guessing that is the same thing that is going on at the boarders.

Playing devil advocate say the Rejectionists and the Saddamists both laid down their arms and the terrorists just went away. What have we won?

Yes Iraq may form a new government but it may or may not be a government that we want or can control. And what about those terrorists do you really think they are done fighting. I sure don't think so. Might ask Spain or London about that.

Supreme Court to Review Texas Redistricting.

The Supreme Court said Monday it would consider the constitutionality of a Texas congressional map engineered by Rep. Tom DeLay that helped Republicans gain seats in Congress.

The 2003 boundaries helped Republicans win 21 of the state's 32 seats in Congress in the last election- up from 15. They were approved amid a nasty battle between Republican leaders and Democrats and minority groups in Texas. Delay once again doing what he does best. . . STEALING.

Justices will consider a constitutional challenge to the boundaries filed by various opponents. The court will hear two hours of arguments in four separate appeals. Lawyers have been told the case will be argued March 1, so the outcome could affect 2006 elections.

Wouldn't that be great.

WHAT DO YOU THINK

IraqBC.jpg

Yesterday for the first time president Bush estimated 30,000 Iraqi have died since the start of the war. There really is no official site that tracks this but check the below site Iraq Body Count and the Washington Post article that offer a different point of view.

There's a website called Iraq Body Count, and today it says the number of Iraq civilians who have died since the U.S. invasion began last year is 16,662. Earlier this month, a new study published in the British medical journal The Lancet claimed that the number of Iraqi civilians dead is 100,000.

Ever since General Tommy Franks said "we don't do body counts" keeping track of the dead has been controversial. But with so much disagreement, people are left to decide on their own where the truth is.

One of the first attempts to independently estimate the loss of civilian life from the Iraqi war has concluded that at least 100,000 Iraqi civilians may have died because of the U.S. invasion.

The estimate is based on a September door-to-door survey of 988 Iraqi households -- containing 7,868 people in 33 neighborhoods -- selected to provide a representative sampling. Two survey teams gathered detailed information about the date, cause and circumstances of any deaths in the 14.6 months before the invasion and the 17.8 months after it, documenting the fatalities with death certificates in most cases.

This chart is very interesting unless you find YOUR name on it.

Also, in MIAMI - A federal judge has scheduled a hearing for next week at which a former business associate of Washington lobbyist Jack Abramoff could plead guilty to charges arising from the 2000 purchase of SunCruz Casinos’ gambling fleet.

Plea agreements in federal criminal cases usually require the defendant to cooperate with prosecutors in return for a reduced prison sentence. That means if Adam Kidan pleads guilty he could be required to provide evidence against Abramoff and possibly testify against the lobbyist.

Can all the folks that are mixed up in this mess hear the foot steps behind them I wonder.

WHAT CAT'S EAT

In my high school biology class, one day, we were watching a video about wildcats in Africa. At one point, a flood had receeded, and the cats were hunting for fish stranded in small pools of water. A girl in the back piped up.

Her: "What's it doing?"

Teacher: "It's looking for fish."

Her: "Why?"

Teacher: "So it can eat the fish."

Her: "Oh." (pause) "I thought cats ate cat food."

STOP THE MADNESS

QUICK STAT:

ExecutivePay.jpg

Are these guys worth this kind of dough or could a monkey do their job just as well. Just look at the guys in or going to jail before you answer the question.

NOW WE KNOW THE ANSWER

OilGuys.jpg

A White House document shows that executives from big oil companies met with Vice President Cheney's energy task force in 2001 -- something long suspected by environmentalists but denied as recently as last week by industry officials testifying before Congress.

Toward the end of the hearing, Lautenberg asked the five executives: "Did your company or any representatives of your companies participate in Vice President Cheney's energy task force in 2001?" When there was no response, Lautenberg added: "The meeting . . . "

"No," said Raymond, Exxon chief executive Lee R. Raymond's.

"No," said Chevron Chairman David J. O'Reilly.

"We did not, no," Mulva said, ConocoPhillips chief executive James J. Mulva.

"To be honest, I don't know," said BP America chief executive Ross Pillari, who came to the job in August 2001. "I wasn't here then."

"But your company was here," Lautenberg replied.

"Yes," Pillari said.

Shell Oil president John Hofmeister, who has held his job since earlier this year, answered last. "Not to my knowledge," he said.

Looks to me like only one had guts to standup a tell the truth.

Old what's his face Ted Stevens would not allow these guys to take the oath.

I wonder why?

Better still can't they still be held of lying?

AS SEEN ON TV

What is it with Vice President Cheney and VIDEO TAPE. For some reason he goes on these various TV interview shows and when asked a question about something he said in a speech or interview his mind goes blank. He says he never said that, yet it is on TAPE.

Is Cheney just a BIG FAT LIAR. We report you decide. Check yourself with these two recent examples of how he seems to go brain dead when it comes to remembering something he said.

The first is from Hardball the second is from Countdown.

I just shake me head every time I see these. It makes me crazy to think that this guy is next in line to the president.

TO MUCH WORK SO LITTLE TIME

QUICK STAT:

CompCostOfWar.jpg

Compare the Cost of war that this country has spent in the last 100 years and you'll see that we had 6 wars. At the current rate the cost of the Iraq war puts it in 4th place, soon to move into 3rd place. At the rate we are spending it will eventually take over 2nd place, and will be put on the back of our children.

A Stat we shouldn't be proud of.

SEPT. 11 PANEL: U.S. REMAINS UNPREPARED

Final911.jpg
Time, money and ever-present terror threats have done little to close gaping holes in the nation's security system, the former Sept. 11 Commission said Monday in accusing the government of failing to protect the country against another attack.

Wrapping up more than three years of investigations and hearings, the former commission issued what members said was their final assessment of the government's counterterrorism performance as a report card. It gave failing grades in five areas, and issued only one "A" actually an A-minus for the Bush administration's efforts to curb terrorist financing.

The five "F"s were for:

Failing to provide a radio system to allow first responders from different agencies communicate with each other during emergencies.

How hard can this be? I mean we can appropriate millions of dollars to build a bridge to an island with about 50 people in Alaska and now 4 years after 9/11 we haven't done a damn thing on this problem.

Distributing federal homeland security funding to states on a "pork-barrel" basis instead of risk.

Looking at the above comment this should not surprise anyone. How disgusting.

Failing to consolidate names of suspicious airline travelers on a single terror watch screening list.

Have we also lost the Technology lead as well? Why weren't the major database/software/hardware companies put in a room and told to come up with a solution to this problem. . . oh yea, we out sourced all that.

Hindering congressional oversight by retaining intelligence budget information as classified materials.

This is just one more way that the administration can control what we can and can't know. These laws need to be reviewed and changed.

Failing to engage in an alliance to develop international standards for the treatment and prosecution of detained terror suspects.

This is just more of the "MY WAY OR THE HIGHWAY" attitude of this administration. We did it when we decided to go to war with IRAQ. It's hard work (to quote the president) and we are doing ALL the heavy lifting.

They also gave the government 12 "D"s and "B"s, nine "C"s and two incomplete grades.

If this was a kids report card he/she wouldn't be allowed out of there room for a year.

I don't know the answer to some of these questions, but one thing I feel could help and that would be adoption of TERM LIMITS. Yes I know it will never happen but when you see guys like Ted Stevens who has been in congress for 37 years, is third in line for the Presidency and refused to swear in the Oil Executives so that they can lie. He also was behind "THE BRIDGE TO NOWHERE".

It's time for new blood. It can't hurt.

Me: "Yes sir, it doesn't exist anymore."

Tourist: "Any thoughts of bringing it back?"

Me: "No, I don't think that's possible."

Tourist: "Why not?"

Tourist: "Still?"

Me: "Yes."

LEGAL CREDIT CARD SCAMS

ConsumersUnion.jpg

I subscribe to Consumers Report (Internet edition) and from time to time they send out surveys and other information like the following email.

It talks about Credit Cards and tells you to watch out for the scams (my word) that the Credit Card Companies use to make you pay high rates. It also talks about the new Christmas Song that they put up on your site.

Finally, if you visit the site please take a minute to send your congressman a note encouraging him/her to support Credit Card reform. It couldn't be easier. Enjoy the song!!!

Dear Mick,
As holiday shopping reaches its frenzied peak, we've launched a new and funny Christmas song --"Its Always Christmas Time (for Visa)" -- about abusive practices by credit card companies.

Take a look, laugh and take action! Go to the site.<----( click here to go to the site )

Every Christmas, we pull out our credit cards to buy gifts for our friends and family. But, those credit cards can turn on us later: skyrocketing interest, late fees for bills mailed on time, low minimum payments that can bury us in interest.

Did you know that credit card contracts frequently contain something called a "universal default" clause that allows the card company to jack up your interest rate because you made a late payment on another card, looked into refinancing your mortgage, or made unusually big purchases? Its time for credit card reform

Our funny song takes a light hearted approach to a serious problem, and we think you will enjoy it as much as we do. Share it with your friends, and then take a moment to contact your legislators in support of the credit card reform bills in Congress that will really help protect consumers.

The holiday season will come and go fast--and we hope to bring national attention to the problems people face and to these bills before the end of the year. If you enjoy the song, please tell your friends so they can take action too and add their voice to yours! We've created a special Santa holiday card you can send to them for a quick holiday greeting and a link to the song and action.

THERE YOU GO AGAIN

WhiteHouseCard05.jpg InSideTheCard.jpg

What's missing from the White House Christmas card? Christmas.

This month, as in every December since he took office, President Bush sent out cards with a generic end-of-the-year message, wishing 1.4 million of his close friends and supporters a happy "holiday season."

Many people are thrilled to get a White House Christmas card, no matter what the greeting inside. But some conservative Christians are reacting as if Bush stuck coal in their stockings.

Religious conservatives are miffed because they have been pressuring stores to advertise Christmas sales rather than "holiday specials" and urging schools to let students out for Christmas vacation rather than for "winter break." They celebrated when House Speaker Dennis Hastert, R-Ill., insisted that the sparkling spectacle on the Capitol lawn should be called the Capitol Christmas Tree, not a holiday spruce.

Then along comes a generic season's greeting from the White House, paid for by the Republican National Committee. The cover art is also secular, if not humanist: It shows the presidential pets - two dogs and a cat - frolicking on a snowy White House lawn.

WHAT SAY YOU BILL???

Jon Stewart get's into the so called "CHRISTMAS WAR" and exposes Bill O'Reilly who used a clip from the Daily Show that was created last year, something Billy didn't mention to his audience but rather past it off as being this year.

U.S. NATIONAL DEBT

The Outstanding Public Debt as of 06 Dec 2005 at 06:41:38 PM GMT is:

$ 8 , 1 2 2 , 6 3 7 , 2 4 7, 7 3 0 . 6 5 (that's trillion with a T)

The estimated population of the United States is 297,902,238 so each citizen's share of this debt is $27,266.12.

The National Debt has continued to increase an average of $2.83 billion per day since September 30, 2005!

Remember we talked about the economy yesterday and I used my Heating Bill as an example. We'll today I find out I have a debt I didn't think about and that is my share of the above National Debt.

This is a debt that is going up faster than a speeding bullet over $ 2 billion a day. It's also a debt that I'll never pay off in my life time.

NO GOOD NEWS

The Bush administration is harping on no GOOD NEWS coming out of IRAQ. And after listening to Michael Ware, Time Magazine Baghdad Bureau Chief the other day talking about this issue he said the following.

  • Can't go into the so called RED Zone without security protection.
  • Security is the most important thing needed in Iraq.
  • Handing out soccer balls and painting schools is not the solution.
  • Oil production is well below capacity.
  • Iraqis have only a few hours of electricity each day.
  • Can't count on having water to your home.
  • Can't feel comfortable on sending your children to elementary school and having them come home without being blown up.

That's the real story and it's NOT GOOD NEWS.

A. Ten. . .

  • One to deny that a light bulb needs to be changed;
  • One to attack the patriotism of anyone who says the light bulb needs to be changed;
  • One to blame Clinton for burning out the light bulb;
  • One to tell the nations of the world that they are either for changing the light bulb or for eternal darkness;
  • One to give a billion dollar no-bid contract to Halliburton for the new light bulb;
  • One to arrange a photograph of Bush, dressed as a janitor, standing on a step ladder under the banner 'Bulb Accomplished'
  • One administration insider to resign and in detail reveal how Bush was literally 'in the dark' the whole time;
  • One to viciously smear No. 7
  • One surrogate to campaign on TV and at rallies on how George Bush has had a strong light-bulb-changing policy all along
  • And finally, one to confuse Americans about the difference between screwing a light bulb and screwing the country.

ONE LAST WORD TO BILL O'REILLY

President Bush's War on Christmas. This shocking event occurred at the White House this morning:

President and Mrs. Bush Host Children's Holiday Reception

THE PRESIDENT: Thanks for coming. Welcome. We're glad you're here. This is Laura; I'm George W. We hope you've had some fun here. I hope nobody pinched Rudolph on the nose. Nobody did, that's good - Rudolph is happy about that, too.

Laura Bush ended the event by saying, "So have a very, very happy holiday to everybody. Have fun. "

If Mrs. Bush watched more Bill O'Reilly she'd know how offensive her remarks were to Christians:

TAKEN FROM THE O'REILLY SHOW: (not sure if was radio or TV).

GUEST: "Season's Greetings" and "Happy Holidays," Bill, does not offend Christians.

O'REILLY: Yes, it does. It absolutely does. And I know that for a fact.

One lady was a bit confused. Upon handing me her bag of chips and the corresponding coupon, she said, "The coupon says thirteen and one fourth, but I guess this is close enough, right?" I checked. The net weight of the bag was given as 13.25 ounces. I looked up, certain she was joking.

Bill O'Reilly has been on this crusade with Brother Jerry Falwell about putting Christmas back into Christmas. They don't like the word Holiday when it comes to Christmas. So they started this nonsense about Holiday Trees vs. Christmas Trees.

They don't want Sears, Wal-Mart, Target and others using the word "HOLIDAY" to define such things as Trees and other items associated with Christmas.

Well it turns out good old Bill and FOXNEWS don't think it applies to them. . . just everybody else. Check out the image and note the before and after wording. Also listen to Keith Olbermann on the video it's priceless, the O-man does a sweep of the Worst person in the World.

MOVING FORWARD

BACK AT IT

Well I'm back. I had a bit of a cold and some Bandwidth problems at the same time, more later.

OH CHRISTMAS TREE, OH CHRISTMAS TREE

You must have heard about this Holiday Tree vs. Christmas Tree NON-ISSUE that has been in the news for the last few days. I sent the below Letter to the Editor as a result of a letter they published on 12/4/5.

So Jerry Falwell , Bill O'Reilly and now D. K. (see Sundays letters) have all joined hands in promoting this NON-ISSUE of Holiday Trees vs. Christmas Trees.

It seems to me they have more to worry about when it comes to Christmas than calling a tree a Holiday Tree. How about the MEANING OF CHRISTMAS that would be a good start.

The spirit of Christmas should be in our heart and soul and not in the tree, tinsel, wrapping or the words we use to define them. When Americans are dying in IRAQ we should be praying for peace on earth.

I wonder what Jesus would say to Duane K.'s last paragraph: "I wish you all a very Merry Christmas. And I DON'T CARE IF I OFFEND YOU--- Christmas is here to stay."

Ah, the TRUE MEANING OF CHRISTMAS comes shining through doesn't it.

I worry about people that have such little independence of thought that they can't seem to think for themselves. They are lead around like sheep about stupid nonsense like this, by people that have a much bigger agenda than a Tree.

THINK ABOUT IT.

And oh yes, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays. I do care.
