  • Bless me, Father, for I have sinned. I have been with a loose woman for the last three weekends."
  • Father Donavon asks: "Is that you, little Tommy Shaughnessy?"
  • "Yes, Father, 'tis I."
  • "And who was the woman you were with?"
  • "Sure and I can't be tellin' you, Father. I don't want to ruin her reputation."
  • Well, Tommy, I'm sure to find out sooner or later, so you may as well tell me now.
  • Was it Brenda O'Malley?"
  • "I cannot say Father, please."
  • "Was it Patricia Kelly?"
  • "I'll never tell."
  • "Was it Brydie Shannon?"
  • "I'm sorry, but I will not name her."
  • "Was it Mary Catherine Morgan?"
  • "My lips are sealed, Father."
  • "Was it Fiona McDonald then?"
  • "Please, Father, I cannot tell you."
  • The priest sighs in frustration.
  • "You're a steadfast lad Tommy Shaughnessy, and I admire that, but you've sinned and now you must atone. You cannot attend church for three months.
  • Be off with you now."
  • Tommy walks back to his pew.
  • His friend Sean slides over and whispers, "What'd you get?"
  • "Three month's vacation and five good leads."

HAVING SOME FUN

NASCAR'S BAD BOY

Kurt Bush arrested. Yea that's the ticket (pun intended). He got a ticket for reckless driving and speeding.

I heard his lame-assed apology this morning and just had to laugh.

He's working hard for his spot on the 2005 BIGGEST JERKS OF THE YEAR award. He's got my vote. . . no wait a minute what about Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh.

QUICK TO BLAME OTHERS BUT NOT THEMSELVES

WP001.jpg WP002.jpg WP003.jpg

Dan Bartlett, Counselor to the President said on MSNBC this morning that the reason many Americans now doubt the mission in IRAQ is because the democrats are RE-WRITING HISTORY by telling the American people that the president falsely misled them into the lead up to the war.

Let's see now:

  • WMD'S
  • ALUMINUM TUBES
  • MUSHROOM CLOUD
  • SADDAM CONNECTION TO 9/11
  • IRAQ CONNECTION TO TERRORISTS
  • YELLOW CAKE

Who is re-writing history. . . these are facts that this administration promoted.

HOW ABOUT THIS

They keep saying that everyone saw the same intelligence. They also love to drag Clinton into this MARCH TO WAR saying he said we need a regime change. Well if that's true he didn't go to war and not one serviceman died. So come up with another one.

Here's an idea. . .

Don't want to talk about how we got into war.

fine. . .

Let's talk about how we get out.

BACK AND AT IT

PRESIDENT JIMMY CARTER:

JimmyCarterValues.jpg

His new book is called "Our Endangered Values: America's Moral Crisis." He's written many books, written fiction, written poetry, written children's books but here he gets into the political arena.

I've been very concerned, that some of the basic moral values of our country in the last few years have been profoundly and dramatically changed in an unprecedented way and I believe that this is the part not just from what Democrats or Republicans believe and it's not between just recent changes.

And so these changes have really severely changed the basic attitude of our country, the basic policies of America's government and I believe this is something that is of great concern, not only to me but to many other people.

One of the things that does concern me about recent developments is it does an unprecedented increase and a commitment to fundamentalism in the religious right and also within the government and that has been coming along for the last 20, 25 years.

Another change though is that for the first time in the history of our country since Thomas Jefferson said build a wall between church and state there has been a deliberate and overt, not secret melding of religion and politics or the church and state, which I believe is not only contrary to what our founding fathers intended and what everyone else has agreed to the last 230 years but also in my opinion as a Christian it's different from what I've been taught to believe in my religion.

There's a thin line between what I think all deeply religious people believe. Ordinarily most of us, whether we are Christians or Catholics or Protestants, whether we are Jews or whether we might be Muslims, we basically agree on justice, on service to others, on humility, on truthfulness, on peace, I worship the Prince of Peace, on forgiveness and on compassion. So, there are a lot of things that bind us together.

A fundamentalist though, as I define in this book, in extreme cases has come to the forefront in recent years both in Islam and in some areas of Christianity. A fundamentalist by, almost by definition as I describe is a very strong male religious leader, always a man, who believes that he is completely wedded to God, has a special privilege and relationship to God above others.

And, therefore, since he speaks basically in his opinion for God, anyone who disagrees with him at all is inherently and by definition wrong and therefore inferior. And one of the first things that a male fundamentalist wants to do is to subjugate women to make them subservient and to subjugate others that don't believe as he does.

The other thing they do, and this is the only other thing I'll add, is that they don't believe that it's right to negotiate or to compromise with people who disagree with them because any deviation from their absolute beliefs is a derogation of their own faith. So, those two things, exclusiveness, domination and being very highly biased are the elements of fundamentalism.

Man I couldn't agree more.

I'LL BE WATCHING BUT. . .IT'S STILL BULLSHIT

CNBC to air "Medicare Rx: A National Conversation" on Saturday, November 19th 7:00 p.m. Eastern on CNBC.

MediCareRx.jpg

This is put on by the Department of Health and Human Services and I'm sorry to say I don't trust them. It's like so much of this administration you don't know what or who to relieve. Are they giving me facts or BULLSHIT. Like the "No Child Left Behind" that they paid a consultant to talk it up as a good program and made it appear he was saying this because he believed it and not because he was being paid.

The WAR in Iraq with all the LIES and BUMB inforamation that they put out has lead me down this road of distrust. Dick Cheney unable to admit he said something that is undeniable because he said it on Meet The Press and THERE IS VIDEO AND AUDIO of him saying exactly what he is saying he didn't say it. The CIA LEAK is another example of lies and deceit that they use.

So I'll watch but I'll do my research. The question is why do we need multiple programs to choose from and why do we need a gap in coverage.

One man said: "I have a Ph.D., and it's too complicated to suit me." WILLIAM Q. BEARD, 74, of Wichita, Kan., on Medicare's new prescription drug plan.

CNN PRESENTS - "UNDERCOVER IN A SECRET STATE"

KimJongIll.jpg

Did you watch CNN Presents last night? It was about North Korea and the effort to get the word out to both the world and within North Korea as to what is going on. They are using advances technology do help get the word out.

For example the wide spread hunger and the fact that in the 1990's more than 2 million people died during a famine. They keep saying how bad Saddam was yet this guy Kim Jong Ill has the bomb in hand as let millions die and is nuts.

This film is very powerful and shows that there are people willing to risk their lives for freedom.

If you get a chance watch it as I'm sure they will repeat it.

I was at the golf store comparing different kinds of golf balls. I was unhappy with the women's type I had been using. After browsing for several minutes, I was approached by one of the good- looking gentlemen who works at the store. He asked if he could help me.

Without thinking, I looked at him and said, "I think I like playing with men's balls."

WAKE UP AMERICA

WHAT'S WRONG WITH AMERICA

RedBlue01.jpg

You know we now define America as RED and BLUE states, not the United States of America.

There are some that want to do the same thing at the State level. Here in Washington these people see the Red and Blue divide between Eastern Washington and the Puget Sound area.

Back in 2-23-5 and again on 3-7-5 I talked about this spilt of the State and even King County. Even I-912 the Gas initiative that just went down to defeat this past election was promoted by the RIGHT WING radio talk shows as a RED and BLUE issue. Thankfully it didn't work.

I'm hoping as a result of this past election it's just the first step toward bring back the feeling of a UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

SEND A MESSAGE

From an email sent by Maria Cantwell:

I am writing today because I need your help. A top Senate Republican is quietly trying to do away with key protections for Puget Sound, one of our state's greatest treasures. I need your help to stop this misguided plan.

Sign the petition

Senator Ted Stevens of Alaska has introduced a bill to repeal the Magnuson Amendment, a law written by Washington's own Warren Magnuson in 1977 to limit oil tanker traffic in Puget Sound. The Magnuson Amendment has kept the Cherry Point Refinery near Bellingham from becoming a super-port for oil to be shipped overseas and across the country. Stevens' bill will undo these protections. If it passes, pristine Puget Sound is at risk for oil spills, with little economic or energy benefit to our state.

Senator Stevens has also suggested that Cherry Point should expand dramatically to refine oil taken from the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. As you know, I have been leading the fight in the Senate against under-handed measures to open the Refuge to drilling, and I intend to fight this expansion. Stevens' plan will quietly reverse important protections supported by Washington's Republicans and Democrats for decades.

Last month, Democrats and Republicans in the House blocked a similar plan, but Senator Stevens is trying again. And this time he is keeping a low profile. But we can't let him get away with it. We have to show Senator Stevens that Washington state won't stand by silently and let one of our greatest treasures fall to the whims of greedy oil companies. Please join me in signing this petition to keep the Magnuson Amendment in place and protect Washington's waterways and coastlines from being overrun with oil tankers.

Please sign this petition and forward it on to your friends and family. I intend to fight this battle to the end and I hope I can count on you to stand by my side.

SHORT POST TODAY

THE STATUS

war_status_01.jpg

HE DID IT AGAIN

On his 700 Club show, Rev. Pat Robertson took the opportunity to strongly rebuke voters in Dover, PA who removed from office school board members who supported teaching faith-based "intelligent design" and instead elected Democrats who opposed bringing up the possibility of a Creator in the school system's science curriculum.

Rev. Robertson warned the people of Dover that God might forsake the town because of the vote.

Pat Robertson"I'd like to say to the good citizens of Dover. If there is a disaster in your area, don't turn to God, you just rejected Him from your city. And don't wonder why He hasn't helped you when problems begin, if they begin. I'm not saying they will, but if they do, just remember, you just voted God out of your city. And if that's the case, don't ask for His help because he might not be there."

A lady walks up to a pharmacist and asked to buy a bottle of cyanide.

The pharmacist said, "Why in the world do you need cyanide?"

The lady then explained she needed it to poison her husband.

The pharmacist's eyes got big and he said, "Lord, have mercy—I can't give you cyanide to kill your husband! That's against the law. I'll lose my license, they'll throw both of us in jail and all kinds of bad things will happen! Absolutely not, you can NOT have any cyanide!"

The lady reached into her purse and pulled out a picture of her husband in bed with the pharmacist's wife. The pharmacist looked at the picture and replied, "Well, now, you didn't tell me you had a prescription!"

HOW ABOUT THIS

TED STEVENS THE BRIDGE TO NOWHERE MAN

So congress has Baseball players swear in to talk about steroids but they don't want the Gas Executives to do the same to talk about gas prices.

Well I guess we know what's important to them, after all the Big Oil companies give millions to both parties.

CAN'T HURT

The New Covenant with America (Democrat Contract With America)

by Robert B. Reich

  • Competence. We promise America a competent government headed by people with expertise and experience. We will never appoint or confirm cronies whose main qualification for office is personal connection or party loyalty.
  • Fiscal responsibility and a capital budget. We will get the federal budget back under control by barring special spending (pork to political loyalists back home) and corporate welfare (subsidies to particular industries like agribusiness, oil, and pharmaceuticals). We will create a national capital budget so that federal construction money never again goes to bridges to nowhere in Alaska and instead goes to stronger levees in New Orleans.
  • Fighting terrorism and getting out of Iraq. We will fight terrorism with a strong military and with economic investments and aid for poor nations that are often the breeding grounds for terrorism. But we will withdraw American troops from Iraq. As even our generals now tell us, our presence there is incubating new terrorists and fomenting anti-Americanism around the world.
  • Ending torture and respecting the rule of law. We will respect the Geneva Conventions. We will never condone torture or keep people imprisoned indefinitely without due process of law.
  • Reducing oil dependence and greenhouse gases. We will reduce American dependence on oil and reduce global warming. By 2020, 20 percent of our energy will come from solar, wind, biomass, and other alternative sources. Also by 2020, America will utilize 20-percent less fuel than today.
  • Restoring the middle class. We will restore the growth of the American middle class and of middle-class incomes. Supply-side economics, which rewards the rich with generous tax breaks and tells us that the resulting economic growth will trickle down to everyone else, has proven a cruel hoax. Little or nothing is trickling down. A quarter of all the benefits of economic growth now go to the richest one-tenth of 1 percent of Americans. We are determined to reverse course.
  • A progressive tax code. The cost of making the nation's homeland secure against terrorism and natural disasters and of providing adequate health care and education -- without falling deeper into debt -- will require more federal revenue. Yet the middle class cannot afford more taxes. It's time for the rich to bear their fair share. We will impose a surtax of one-tenth of 1 percent per year on net worth in excess of $1 million and will roll back the administration's tax cuts for those earning more than $300,000 a year.
  • A minimum health-care wage. The cost of health insurance for the typical family is rising by double digits, while 46 million Americans are without insurance altogether. We will establish a simple minimum health-care wage offering basic health insurance -- one free checkup per year, five free medical visits, one free dental, choice of doctor or dentist limited to an approved list, free drugs up to $1,000 per year -- to any American wishing to join. The expected large scale of this program will give government bargaining leverage to get low prices from providers and drug companies.
  • Lifelong education through progressive vouchers and re-employment insurance. We will finance every K-14 student (that's right -- two years beyond high school) with a progressive voucher in an amount inversely related to family income. (This year, for example, it would range from $15,000 for students from families at or below the poverty line to $3,000 for students from families in the wealthiest 10 percent.) The vouchers could be used at any publicly certified school. In addition, we will turn the unemployment insurance system into a re-employment insurance system. Recipients will get job training, job-search assistance, and, if the new job pays less than the old, wage insurance paying half the difference for a year.
  • Maintain separation of church and state. We will never allow religion to dictate whether an individual must be kept on life support, young people can gain access to birth-control information or counseling, women will have the freedom to choose to terminate a pregnancy, research can be done on stem cells or any other potential scientific innovation, or public schools must teach nonscientific interpretations of sacred texts.

Just when I was beginning to have faith that the world of politics was becoming standard knowledge for nearly all Americans, this happened to me.

I was in the hallway where a girl was talking to her friend. In a nutshell, she was convinced that the name of a person running for President of the United States was "Bush Cheney."

I just about lost it, but then she topped herself. She said that the prime opponent was someone named "Kerry Edwards," adding that she thought he was a guy but could be wrong, "because Kerry sounds like a girl's name."

GOT TO GET TO WORK TODAY

LIES AND THE LYING LIARS THAT TELL THEM

On Monday 7, 2005 MSNBC The Situation had Alan Skorski author of Pants On Fire.

Tucker Carlson asked Alan to give him an EXAMPLE of a "HARD LIE" of something Franken said "KNOWING IT WAS NOT TRUE"

His example was what Alan called Franken's "NUMBER ONE FAVORITE LIE", that Al Franken said that Rush Limbaugh said that the majority of minimum wages workers are teenagers. He then went on to say that Franken said that he did the research with the Bureau of Labor Statistics'(BLS) and it showed that no the majority are ADULTS.

Then Alan says that Al Franken made up all the data.

Well I didn't believe what Alan was dishing up so I went to the BLS web site. I sent them an email and asked this simple question: "Do you have statistics on minimum wage by age group in the U.S."

They sent back the following reply.

Hello Mick,

Thank you for your inquiry. I am sending you a link to the Bureau of Labor Statistics'(BLS) data for "Wage and salary workers paid hourly rates with earnings at or below the prevailing Federal minimum wage by selected characteristics.

Click to see the report. <----( click here )

16 to 24 years = 16,174

25 years and up = 57,765

Check it out and you will see that Al Franken is ABSOLUTELY RIGHT about this. This guy is another BIG FAT LIAR.

THE ELECTION

The righties are going to go NUTS today saying well this election doesn't mean a damn thing. But I think the win in New Jersey and Virginia is indeed a big deal.

Time will tell.

A POLICE ACTION?

A lot of people are happy (Bill O'Reilly) that Paris is having these riots. I think that's sad. They have hung this on the Muslims. They want to hang this on terrorist but I think it goes deeper than that.

ARUBA

Alabama Governor has called for a Nationwide Boycott of Aruba.

To me that is almost as dumb as it gets. Natalie's death is tragic but I have some thoughts and concerns about how this whole thing has been played.

First this girl was just out of High School why was it a good idea for her to go to Aruba. And if you say all her friends went, I'm sorry that's not good enough. She was just out of High School for God's sake.

I'm sure that the folks that live in that part of the country know the reputation of ARUBA, be honest now.

But to punish the whole Island and the people of Aruba is just stupid.

GAS HEARINGS

1970 does anyone remember 1970? That's when we first started to worry about gas. Thirty five years later we are still wringing our hands.

I think we need a MOON SHOT on developing a fuel efficient GAS ENGINES.

    VoteNov08a.jpg

    ELECTION DAY

MAIL THAT BALLOT IN. . .HOW HARD CAN THAT BE.

WHERE IS FEMA WHEN YOU NEED THEM

I've been BLOGGING now for about 2-3 years. Over that period of time have run into several major problems along the way, three to be exact.

My first problem happened about a year and half ago. At that time the company that was hosting my BLOG went out of business without notice. I was up one day and off line the next.

My second problem started about six months ago. I started getting a bunch of span in my comments area. I no longer allow comments. These comments are done automatically by Robots and 99% of them are X rated.

At first there was about 15-20 each day. So it was a simple matter to just delete them. But then that count started to grow to 50, 100, 500 and at the end over 1200 each day. The fix to this problem was an upgrade to my BLOGGING software which cost me $99 bucks. But it did solve that problem. I haven't gotten one comment since the upgrade.

Now my most recent and potentially worst problem is bandwidth or lack of bandwidth.

Last month I started getting an automatic email from my Hosting service saying I was at about 80% of my monthly allowed usage which is 20 gigabytes. That should be good news in one way in that it should mean I'm getting hundreds of visitors to my BLOG. Alas it wasn't to be. It was those damn Robots again just with a twist. These guys are running up my bandwidth usage like crazy.

In the year and half since my BLOG has been up and running my bandwidth usage has grown from zero to about 6.2 gigabytes in September 2005 so it's been a slow but steady growth. In October it jumped to 19 gigabytes.

Tech Support gave me a couple of suggestions on setting some options in my software which I have taken but so far I'm still getting the automatic email messages. At one point I was actually locked out altogether.

Seems these Robots search for graphics of some kind like Halloween. I sure don't understand all this crap but to me it's the same as being robbed only it's electronic. So now I'm starting to use fewer graphics and more text. I've also cut the number of posts I display down to 5. Set some software options to fight this stuff.

Now it's a wait and see.

    VOTE! VOTE! VOTE!

    NOT ON MY DIME

    comish01.jpg

I've been watching the letters to the Editor in the Kitsap Sun for the past few weeks and have noticed that they are getting a lot of letters dealing with the issue of NASCAR coming to Kitsap County. In just the past few days there has been 4 including the one in today's paper.

I don't have an accurate count as to the number of letters for or against the track since this first became a public issue. My guess is that they have been 50-50.

What I have noticed is that while most people don't seem to have a problem with the track being built, they do have a problem with using taxpayer money to do so.

As I've said before NASCAR is a $3 billion dollar a year (and growing) business and so I wonder why they need my money to build this track. I didn't get any help buying my house or paying my taxes. It would have been nice if I had. So I'm against any taxpayer funds being used.

Today's letter talked about "IF WE ARE ASKED TO VOTE." To me this is worth a vote of the people if the use of taxpayer money is used. He also said he was sending a copy of his letter to the County Commissioners.

I'm going one step further, In addition to sending this post to them I'm going to ask that a vote by the people be made a part of any use of taxpayer money for this track.

If you want to do the same here are the email addresses of each of the Commissioners.

    MOSTLY WORDS NOW

COME ON WASHINGTON LET'S ALL VOTE NOV 8TH

    VoteNov08a.jpg

    WATCHING TO MUCH FOXNEWS TV

    deceit01.jpg

ME: I saw this in the Letters to the Editor page in the Kitsap Sun yesterday.

    Wilson 'Outed' His Own Wife

Why are the major media sources not mentioning that Joseph Wilson frequently introduced his wife, Valerie Plame, at social events as, "my wife the CIA agent"? Was he not outing her himself?

Knowing this, why do those same media outlets intimate that administration members criminally "outed" her. Not to denigrate her, but she is now a desk-bound "agent", has been for quite a few years. Any clandestine sources she may have had were probably passed off to others long ago.

    Frank B.

ME: I did a little research using GOOGLE and came up with this post way back in September 30, 2003. Wouldn't you know it came from FOXNEWS that Fair and Balanced group.

In something that doesn't even qualify as a credenza defense, John Gibson, speaking earlier today on Fox News, claimed that "speaking hypothetically" it may well have been Joseph Wilson who made his wife's identity public, by introducing her at diplomatic parties as "my wife, the CIA agent." I am not making this up, as Dave Barry would say.

    Visit the SITE.

    UPDATE:

ME: I forgot to include the much more recent regurgitation I found on MediaMatters.org. This was on the Radio just October 31, 2005. Here is a snippet, click the link to see the full context. Context, now there's a word you won't see the right use.

On the October 31 broadcast of the nationally syndicated radio show The Radio Factor with Bill O'Reilly, guest host Andrew P. Napolitano -- who serves as Fox News' senior judicial analyst -- cited "at least one" of his Fox News colleagues who Napolitano said claimed to have been present at a party where former ambassador Joseph C. Wilson IV introduced Valerie Plame as "my CIA operative wife."

    Read the story here.

ME: That was over two years ago. You might expect that Prosecutor, Office of Special Counsel Fitzgerald would indicate Wilson if it were true.

ME: Now fast forward to October 31, 2005 and CNN's The Situation Room. Here is Wolf Blitzer asking Joe Wilson this very question. Let's listen.

    CNN THE SITUATION ROOM:

BLITZER: Did you ever go around in cocktail parties -- because this has been alleged against you as well -- before the Robert Novak column and boast "my wife, the CIA agent," "my wife works for the CIA"?

    WILSON: Of course not.

First of all, [we have] 5-year-old twins and so we don't go to very many cocktail parties. You've seen me at precisely one in the many years that we've been in Washington together. And that was actually a book party. And you did not see my wife there and you didn't hear me say anything about my wife at that.

BLITZER: How well known was it that she worked for the CIA before the Novak column?

WILSON: It was not known outside the intelligence community. The day after the Novak article appeared, my sister-in-law, my brother's wife, turned to him and asked him: "Do you think Joe knows this?"

ME: Well there you have it, the true story. I think old Frank needs to turn off his TV or at least switch channels . All that FoxNews BULLSHIT is corrupting his mind.

On it's face you just have to ask yourself who would even say such a thing while introducing his wife. It doesn't make sense. To me it doesn't take a Harvard degree to know that isn't an appropriate way to introduce ones wife. In fact it sounds really stupid.

When you think about it John Gibson is the perfect messenger for this lie. I've seen him a time or two and can't stand the man. He barfs with lies, deception and hate. The use of deceit is his watch word.

    IT AIN'T SO EASY

Teresa Bushnell says she lives at the address of this Wallingford storage facility, which her mother runs. The challenge to her voter registration, and that of her parents, is unresolved.

Republicans admitted Friday they made numerous mistakes in challenging the registrations of 1,944 King County voters last week.

The party dropped its challenges of 140 voters, and state GOP Chairman Chris Vance said more probably were challenged erroneously.

King County elections officials said they were flooded with hundreds of calls Thursday and Friday from confused and angry voters who had received notices from the county that their registrations had been challenged because of Republicans' questions about their address. Many said the challenges were unjustified, elections director Dean Logan said.

He urged them to vote in Tuesday's election anyway, and said their votes will be counted if their registrations turn out to be legal.

Vance apologized to voters whose registrations were challenged mistakenly but said Republicans were motivated by a desire to avoid a repeat of problems that plagued the county elections office last year.

"We are not going to sit by again and watch [County Executive] Ron Sims and Dean Logan count illegal votes again," Vance said. "Over 90 percent of what we've done is accurate. ... The focus should not be on our errors, but on King County's errors."

He wouldn't discuss individual voters and why the GOP had challenged their registrations, nor why the party had dropped 140 of the challenges.

How special is that, Vance said they were accurate 90% of the time. Now that is 90% out of about 2000 voters. These are the guys that were bitching that King County was doing a bad job handling over 300,000 votes out of a possible 1 million plus registered voters. Give me a break.

A cowboy walks out of a bar and a second later comes back in, mighty mad. "Okay," he growls. "Now which one of you sidewindin' hombres went outside an' painted mah horse bright red while I was a-drinkin'?" Nobody answers, and the cowpoke draws his six-shooter and yells, "I said which one of you mangy polecats painted mah horse red?!" Slowly one of the cowboys at the bar stands up. He is six feet, nine inches tall, and he pulls a small cannon from his holster. "I done it," he growls. The first cowboy puts his gun back in the holster and says, "Just wanted to let you know the first coat's dry."

    SOME GOOD NEWS

COME ON WASHINGTON LET'S ALL VOTE NOV 8TH

    VoteNov08a.jpg

DAMN THE LIES AND THE LYING LIARS THAT TELL THEM

    LIARS.jpg

Chris Matthews had Deborah Orin, New York Post on his show yesterday HARDBALL. She repeated and the spin that the right has been putting out on this CIA LEAK case for months. What's sad is that Chris Matthews did not challenge her on any of her points even though he knows they are LIES.

I have heard Chris use these very points and know that they are LIES. But it depends on the point he wants to make as to how he will interpret them.

Here are the points that Orin was making.

Claim #1: Former ambassador Joseph C. Wilson IV claimed Vice President Cheney sent him to Niger. LIE!!!

Claim #2: Wilson was unqualified for his mission to Niger. LIE!!!

Claim #3: Wilson's wife got him the job investigating the alleged Iraq-Niger uranium deal. LIE!!!

Claim #4: Special prosecutor Fitzgerald's investigation is limited to the Intelligence Identities Protection act, which will make it very difficult to charge anyone with a crime. LIE!!!

Claim #5: The leaks were simply part of Washington politics as usual, so no crime could have been committed. LIE!!!

Claim #6: The New York Times and The Washington Post offered different accounts of the Miller-Libby conversations. LIE!!!

WHO IS LOOKING OUT FOR YOU

The Senate approved sweeping deficit-reduction legislation last night that would save about $35 billion over the next five years by cutting federal spending on prescription drugs, agriculture supports and student loans, while clamping down on fraud in the Medicaid program.

The measure would also open Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to oil drilling.

It would shave payments to some farmers by 2.5 percent, while eliminating a major cotton support program and trimming agriculture conservation spending. A proposal to limit payments to rich farmers failed yesterday.

The Senate bill would raise billions of dollars by auctioning off parts of the broadcasting spectrum for digital television. It would raise $2.5 billion through leasing parts of the Alaskan refuge to oil and gas interests. Companies with traditional pension plans would be charged higher premiums for insurance coverage under the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corp. And the profits of student lenders would be squeezed by $9.7 billion over five years.

The focus now shifts to the House, where the Budget Committee voted 21 to 16 yesterday to approve a more extensive bill saving nearly $54 billion through 2010 with cuts to Medicaid, food stamps, student loans, agriculture subsidies and child support enforcement. The House measure would allow states to impose premiums and co-payments on poor Medicaid recipients for the first time.

Among the deepest cuts are those hitting Medicare and Medicaid.

Still, some health care experts say new premiums and co-payments that would be imposed on the working poor would drive millions of families out of the Medicaid system entirely.

For the first time, poor children and pregnant women -- currently shielded from any out-of-pocket payments -- could be billed for some medications or hospital visits for non-emergency care.

    A QUESTION OF TRUST

    KenTom.jpg

Kenneth Y. Tomlinson, the former head of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, was forced to step down as a member of its board on Thursday evening.

The move came after the board began reviewing a confidential report by the inspector general of the corporation into accusations about Mr. Tomlinson's use of corporation money to promote more conservative programming.

The statement said the board did not believe that Mr. Tomlinson "acted maliciously or with any intent to harm C.P.B. or public broadcasting." The statement also said Mr. Tomlinson "strongly disputes the findings" in the report.

The inspector general's report is supposed to be made public later this month when it is provided to Representatives David R. Obey of Wisconsin and John D. Dingell of Michigan, both Democrats. The men sought the review in response to an article last May in The New York Times that described Mr. Tomlinson's efforts.

Mr. Obey said the resignation "should be used to bring people together, not divide them as he and the administration have done.

"Public Broadcasting is too important to be anybody's partisan or ideological plaything," he said.

You know these guys on both the left and right that have this deep desire to take over at any cost should not be put in these positions. Further the people that put them there need to be held accountable. This just shouldn't happen.

    WHAT DOES IT ALL MEAN

COME ON WASHINGTON LET'S ALL VOTE NOV 8TH

    VoteNov08a.jpg

    HOPE THIS HELPS, CAN'T HURT

    MedicareDrugs.jpg

Either you, your parents or grandparents likely will be facing a major decision starting Nov. 15: whether to sign up for the new Medicare prescription drug benefit. With all the options, deductibles and plans, where do you begin?

The Consumers Union created a new Web site to help you make sense of the new benefit, with easy-to-understand advice and useful resources. They also want you to share your experience with the Medicare drug plan, so they can push for improvements in the program.

    Visit the SITE.

    WHO DO THEY WORK FOR

Don't get stuck paying for digital TV switch, let Congress know.

If you don't own a digital TV set, you may get stuck paying $60 or more for a converter box when the government switches to all-digital TV signals. A Senate bill uses money raised by the sale of airwaves to cover most of your cost for a box, but a House committee bill sticks consumers with most of the tab. Let Congress know consumers shouldn't foot the bill for the government-mandated digital TV transition.

If the airways belong to all Americans I see no reason we should have to pay for this change over. The sale of the bandwidth should go to implementation this new digital technology, period.

The Consumers Union has made it very easy to let congress know how you feel about this issue. Just fill in the your name, address and email and away you go.

    IT'S ABOUT TIME

    SecretSession1.jpg

This should never have been necessary. But I have to had it to the democrats they pulled it off surprisingly well. It's relly funny watching the republicans running around like chickens with their heads chopped off. It was amazing.

In the end if it forces the republicans to get off the dime and get this report done that's a good thing. BTW isn't it funny that the republicans are saying now the report was coming out in just two weeks and this was not needed. Well if you believe that. . . well you know how that goes.

Mark your calendar and stay tuned to see what comes from all this.

Here is a brief summary I got but I can't remember where I got it. Could be the Washington Post or the NY Times.

By CARL HULSE and DAVID D. KIRKPATRICK

Democrats forced the Republican-controlled Senate into an unusual closed session on Tuesday over the Bush administration's use of intelligence to justify the Iraq war and the Senate's willingness to examine it.

"This is an affront to me personally," an angry Mr. Frist said. He said would find it difficult to trust Mr. Reid any longer. "It's an affront to our leadership," Mr. Frist said. "It's an affront to the United States of America. And it is wrong."

But Democrats said last week's indictment of Mr. Libby, the chief of staff to Vice President Dick Cheney, highlighted anew the need for the Senate to examine the administration's handling of intelligence. They said the unusual demand for a closed session was made out of frustration with the refusal of the chairman of the Intelligence Committee, Senator Pat Roberts, Republican of Kansas, to make good on his February 2004 pledge to pursue such an investigation.

"I have to say in all honesty that I am troubled by what I see as a concerted effort by this administration to use its influence to limit, delay, to frustrate, to deny the Intelligence Committee's oversight work into the intelligence reporting and activities leading up to the invasion of Iraq," Mr. Rockefeller said.

A closed session is infrequent but not unheard of in the Senate and is usually conducted to discuss matters of national security. Democrats said there had been 54 "secret" sessions since 1929, with 6 of the most recent held during the impeachment of President Bill Clinton.

Mr. Reid said he had no alternative because Senate Republicans had repeatedly ignored Democratic calls to finish up the inquiry. "If Senator Frist is upset about my following Senate procedures, then I'm sorry he's disappointed with my following Senate procedures," Mr. Reid said. He added that he had "zero" regrets about his maneuver. "The American people had a victory today," Mr. Reid said.

    WHO DO YOU WORRY ABOUT

    60min00.jpg

I've said it before that the enemy we need to worry about the most is the enemy within.

As a former CIA agent said on 60 MINUTES the other night:

"We're not being undermined by the North Koreans, we're not being undermined by the Russians--we're being undermined by officials in our own government."

Those officials are people that know better. They are well paid, well educated folks. Watch the VIDEO to hear her and you'll get the sense of her anger as well.

I still don't get how Robert Novak fits in all this mess. Hope we find out someday.

HOW TO PREPARE FOR ONE REALLY QUICK GETAWAY PART 4 OF 4

This is the last part of this series. I'm working my way through this and will report back when I've completed this project.

Those with serious medical conditions may want to consider a product sold by the nonprofit organization that developed the MedicAlert bracelet 50 years ago. It sells a special USB flash drive on its Web site, www.medicalert.org, called the E-HealthKey for $85. SanDisk originally developed the product for the Army. Pop the flash drive into any computer and a screen flashes with your medical condition to alert emergency room personnel, for instance, to an allergy or your use of a pacemaker. But beyond that screen, medical information you enter with the help of a user-friendly program right on the drive is encrypted.

For an additional $20-a-year fee, MedicAlert uploads your data to its server so you have a backup.

The E-HealthKey is only available for PC's running Windows XP or Windows 2000. You may want to wait until November when the organization issues an improved version.

BONUS: The E-HealthKey software, created by a division of Bio-Imaging Technologies, also plots your weight, cholesterol or anything you regularly record, onto a graph. "It's a great wellness tool," said Ramesh Srinivasan, MedicAlert's vice president for marketing. If you are going to run for your life, clutching your flash drive and the Hummels, you had better be healthy.
