WELL SO MUCH FOR A GOOD EDUCATION
Well just because your rich, famous, well educated and have a Talk Show doesn't mean you have any brains or common sense. To help prove this I give you Bill Bennett former Education Secretary.
Here's what Bennett said during the Sept. 28 broadcast of Salem Radio Network's Bill Bennett's Morning in America:
CALLER: I noticed the national media, you know, they talk a lot about the loss of revenue, or the inability of the government to fund Social Security, and I was curious, and I've read articles in recent months here, that the abortions that have happened since Roe v. Wade, the lost revenue from the people who have been aborted in the last 30-something years, could fund Social Security as we know it today. And the media just doesn't -- never touches this at all.
BENNETT: Assuming they're all productive citizens?
CALLER: Assuming that they are. Even if only a portion of them were, it would be an enormous amount of revenue.
BENNETT: Maybe, maybe, but we don't know what the costs would be, too. I think as -- abortion disproportionately occur among single women? No.
CALLER: I don't know the exact statistics, but quite a bit are, yeah.
BENNETT: All right, well, I mean, I just don't know. I would not argue for the pro-life position based on this, because you don't know. I mean, it cuts both -- you know, one of the arguments in this book Freakonomics that they make is that the declining crime rate, you know, they deal with this hypothesis, that one of the reasons crime is down is that abortion is up. Well --
CALLER: Well, I don't think that statistic is accurate.
BENNETT: Well, I don't think it is either, I don't think it is either, because first of all, there is just too much that you don't know. But I do know that it's true that if you wanted to reduce crime, you could -- if that were your sole purpose, you could abort every black baby in this country, and your crime rate would go down. That would be an impossible, ridiculous, and morally reprehensible thing to do, but your crime rate would go down. So these far-out, these far-reaching, extensive extrapolations are, I think, tricky.
Well there you go. Why he added race into what he was saying is nuts. Think about it. I'm tell telling you he gets THE FOOT IN MOUTH AWARD. And I'm sure he'll get the WORST PERSON IN THE WORLD AWARD tonight on Countdown.

GOOD LUCK CHIEF ROBERTS
Vote: 78 yes, 22 no
CAN'T SAY I'M SORRY
Representative Tom DeLay, the House majority leader and a driving Republican power in Washington, was forced to step aside from his leadership post on Wednesday after a grand jury in Texas indicted him on a charge of conspiring to violate election laws in his home state.
Remember sometime ago he wanted to drop this rule that says you need to step aside if you are indicted, but it was not dropped because of the STINK it raised at the time. I'm thinking he had an idea something was coming his way.
The indictment, in Travis County, which includes Austin, the state capital, accused him of conspiring with two previously indicted aides to violate a century-old Texas ban on the use of corporate money by state political candidates, by funneling thousands of dollars in corporate contributions through the Republican National Committee.
House Republicans gathered within hours of the indictment's becoming public, and chose Representative Roy Blunt of Missouri, the No. 3 House Republican, to assume Mr. DeLay's duties temporarily. They assigned Representative David Dreier of California to take on more responsibilities. Party rules required Mr. DeLay to step down if indicted.
"I have violated no law, no regulation, no rule of the House," Mr. DeLay, who is in his 11th term, told reporters, adding: "My defense in this case will not be technical or legalistic; it will be categorical and absolute. I am innocent."
Mr. DeLay and his allies described the one conspiracy count against him as motivated by anger over his role in a state redistricting plan that sent five new Texas Republicans to Congress after their party took control of the Statehouse in 2002. Mr. DeLay's actions in Texas during the 2002 campaign are the focus of the indictment issued Wednesday. If convicted, he could face up to two years in prison.
"Tom DeLay's effectiveness as majority leader is the best explanation for what happened in Texas today," Mr. Blunt said. "I'm confident that a full explanation of the facts in this case will clear Tom's name and return him to his position as majority leader."
Well that's not true for gods sake. He has pushed the envelop many times and there is still more to come, the last chapter has not been written on Mr. Delay.
The indictment was another setback for the Republican majority, which has been reeling in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, the Bush administration's handling of the initial relief effort and internal divisions about how extensive the recovery plan should be. The war in Iraq is not going well. President Bush has the lowest poll numbers of his presidency. Add to all that Bill Frist the majority leader is under investigation by the SEC. It couldn't be a better year for the democrats.
One thing I've notice coming out of the mouths of talking heads and commentators is that the American public doesn't understand what is going on and doesn't care. To which I say BULLSHIT.
Another charge is that this is pay back by the DA in Texas, Ronnie Earle. I say again I say BULLSHIT. He has gone after 12 democrats and 3 republicans. If you're a betting man those aren't bad odds.
When you play with fire sooner or later your going to get burned. That's a lesson Delay just never learned.
GOT THIS VIA EMAIL
This is a Seattle Times Editorial that ran a couple of days ago. NASCAR doesn't get we're not in Kansas
The folks from Florida who want to bring NASCAR here just do not get it. International Speedway Corp. should have been ready to say what it needed for a Kitsap County track after abandoning a proposed Snohomish County track last year.
The longer ISC works behind the scenes in Olympia and does not present a funding plan, more questions and doubts about the track, which could cost $300 million, will surface. Beyond the price, Kitsap County residents and those in neighboring communities deserve concrete answers about local impacts such as traffic, sprawl and noise an 81,500-seat track would bring. At meet-and-greets in Kitsap County, ISC officials have compared the site near the Bremerton National Airport to a track it built in Kansas. The Kansas track is next to a major interstate highway just miles from Kansas City, Mo. Similarly, Kitsap County is within sight of Seattle and an easy drive from Tacoma.
That is about where the similarities end. How would the ferries handle the crush of RVs that create a sprawling city of white boxes at the track during race week? That easy drive from Tacoma gets a lot slower when the Narrows Bridge takes on a large portion of those 80,000-plus race watchers.
ISC is also promoting a study done that claims the state will take in $140 million a year because of the track.
Sounds good, until state Treasurer Mike Murphy pooh-poohed the study and said taxpayers should only fund projects with a public purpose. A race track, which ISC says will have 60 percent of its attendees from out of state, does not serve a public purpose.
ISC has said it would fund a larger portion than any other public/private-built stadium. Great. Now tell us how much that is. Do not make race fans, opponents and those in between wait any longer.
My question is this: If the study says the state will take in $140 million a year to me that means ISC will make about the same, so why do they want to share. . . why not take it all?

JOHN EDWARDS WAS RIGHT
Remember back in the 2004 election period when John Edwards talked about TWO AMERICAS. I think what we are learning as a result of the Katrina disaster is that he was right, there is indeed two Americas.
What is even sadder is a discussion I heard on IMUS this morning with Rick Santorum talking about white churches and black churches in Louisiana.
As he talked I couldn't help but feel what the hell is this, are we back in the 50's with these Black and White churches.
He's talking about what a great job the churches are doing in providing help to the disaster victims and in one white church they ACTUALLY married a black couple. Is he kidding? I couldn't believe my ears. This is 2005 and we are saying a church in the south actually married a black couple. Give me a break.
The disaster pointed out that we have a race problem, a class problem, a poverty problem, a religious problem, a HUMAN problem an American problem.
John Edwards was right.

BUSH ENERGY PROGRAM
Remember back when Bush first took office all the BS that surrounded the Energy meeting chaired by Dick Cheney and what ever came out of that? Far as I can see NOTHING.
Now five years later we have $3 dollars per gallon gas prices and with the disaster along the Gulfs coast we have oil refineries that are down and may take weeks if not months to get up and running.
Why don't we form a NASA type Energy program. For Gods sake we're trying to figure out how to get to MARS and yet in not to many years we won't be able to get to work because we won't have the gas to get us there.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR GOOGLE
TAKE A HINT
The following was Bill Maher's parting essay on his HBO show last Friday:
"Mr. President, this job can't be fun for you any more. There's no more money to spend--you used up all of that. You can't start another war because you used up the army. And now, darn the luck, the rest of your term has become the Bush family nightmare: helping poor people. Listen to your Mom. The cupboard's bare, the credit cards maxed out. No one's speaking to you. Mission accomplished."
"Now it's time to do what you've always done best: lose interest and walk away. Like you did with your military service and the oil company and the baseball team. It's time. Time to move on and try the next fantasy job.
How about cowboy or space man? Now I know what you're saying: there's so many other things that you as President could involve yourself in. Please don't. I know, I know. There's a lot left to do. There's a war with Venezuela. Eliminating the sales tax on yachts. Turning the space program over to the church. And Social Security to Fannie Mae. Giving embryos the vote."
"But, Sir, none of that is going to happen now. Why? Because you govern like Billy Joel drives. You've performed so poorly I'm surprised that you haven't given yourself a medal. You're a catastrophe that walks like a man. Herbert Hoover was a shitty president, but even he never conceded an entire city to rising water and snakes."
"On your watch, we've lost almost all of our allies, the surplus, four airliners, two trade centers, a piece of the Pentagon and the City of New Orleans. Maybe you're just not lucky. I'm not saying you don't love this country. I'm just wondering how much worse it could be if you were on the other side."
"So, yes, God does speak to you. What he is saying is: 'Take a hint.'"
NO THEY DIDN'T
Michael Brown rehired as FEMA consultant.
CBS News' Bob Schieffer just announced that the Federal Emergency Management Agency has rehired ex-FEMA chief Michael Brown-- as a consultant to evaluate the agency's response to the disaster!
CBS News correspondent Gloria Borger reports that Michael Brown, who recently resigned as the head of the FEMA, has been rehired by the agency as a consultant to evaluate it's response following Hurricane Katrina."
CBS says they've confirmed Brown had been rehired. Brown resigned after taking heat when a Time Magazine article revealed that he had padded his resume with bogus jobs.
The Associated Press, however, tells the story differently: "Brown is continuing to work at the Federal Emergency Management Agency at full pay, with his Sept. 12 resignation not taking effect for two more weeks, said Homeland Security Department spokesman Russ Knocke."
Brown had been shopping his resume in Washington. Wrote U.S. News' Washington Whispers last week: "Ex-FEMA Administrator Michael Brown seems to be doing for his career what he did for the beleaguered agency. Less than a week after FEMA's dismal Hurricane Katrina response forced Brown out of the agency, he has been shopping his resume to headhunters and Washington PR firms. And it's not working. "He's radioactive," said one exec. An ally of Brownie in the PR world said he should have waited a month before starting his job hunt. "It's just a bad play."
These guys have no class.
THIS IS WHAT I MEAN
This might be great theater but I think it's stupid to send these reporters out in these Hurricane to get pictures of a HURRICANE. What's not to know. I fear one of these times a piece of debris is hit one of these reporters.

I DON'T GET IT
I find it interesting that Tim Russert of Meet The Press found it necessary to bring back Aaron Broussard president of Jefferson Parish, Louisiana to correct the record on what he said about the lack of response by the Federal Government to Katrina.
Yet Tim never felt the same responsibility to correct the record on things that John O'Neil said about John Kerry back during the 2004 election.
Wonder why?

BEYOND DELAY: THE 13 MOST CORRUPT MEMBERS OF CONGRESS
13 CHALLENGED OVER ETHICS
A watchdog group, naming what it calls "the 13 most corrupt members of Congress," is calling for ethics investigations of some of the most prominent political leaders on Capitol Hill in a report to be released tomorrow.
Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) claims in its report that the 13 members violated a variety of congressional ethics rules, among them Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist and House Majority Whip Roy Blunt.
The 13 congressional figures recommended for investigation by the watchdog group are:
Sen. Frist, (R) The report accused him of violating federal campaign-finance laws in how he disclosed a campaign loan. It also called for an inquiry over his recent sale of stock in HCA, his family's hospital corporation. The sale has raised questions about possible insider dealing. Frist aides confirmed Friday that the SEC is investigating.
Rep. Blunt, (R) He was criticized for trying to insert provisions into bills that in one case would have benefited a client of his lobbyist son and, in the other case, the employer of his lobbyist girlfriend, now his wife.
Sen. Burns:(R) Questions arose over $3 million in appropriations he earmarked for a Michigan tribal client of lobbyist Abramoff. The senator received substantial campaign contributions from Abramoff and various clients.
Rep. Ney:(R) The chairman of the House Administration Committee went on a golf outing to Scotland in 2002 arranged by Abramoff at a time when the congressman was trying to insert a provision into legislation to benefit one of Abramoff's tribal clients. The tribe arranged for funds to pay a portion of the trip.
But Ney reported to the House that the trip was paid entirely by the National Center for Public Policy Research, a conservative think tank that denied paying any of the costs.
Rep. Feeney:(R) He incorrectly reported that a golf outing to Scotland with Abramoff in 2003 was paid for by the National Center for Public Policy Research, which denied it. A Feeney aide said the Congressmen was misled
Rep. Pombo:(R) He paid his wife and brother $357,325 in campaign funds in the last four years. He also supported the wind-power industry before the Department of Interior without disclosing that his parents received hundreds of thousands of dollars in royalties from wind-power turbines on their ranch.
Rep. Waters: (D) The report cites a December 2004 Los Angeles Times investigation disclosing how members of the congresswoman's family have made more than $1 million in the past eight years by doing business with companies, candidates and causes that Waters has helped.
Sen. Rick Santorum, (R) The senator encountered controversy over disclosures that local Pennsylvania taxpayers paid for his children's schooling while they lived in Virginia. Santorum maintained he did nothing wrong, and he has since pulled his children out of the school, according to news reports.
Reps. Cunningham (R) and Jefferson:(D) Both are under federal investigation. Cunningham, who has announced he will not run for re-election, faces questions over his dealings with a defense contractor who allegedly overpaid him when he purchased Cunningham's house. Jefferson is under scrutiny for his role in an overseas business deal.
Rep. Charles Taylor, (R) Questions have been raised about his private business interests, including a savings and loan in Asheville and business interests in Russia.
Rep. Marilyn Musgrave, (R) , and Rep. Rick Renzi, (R) Musgrave was accused of misusing her congressional office for campaign purposes. Renzi was accused of financing portions of his 2002 campaign with improper loans.
Do these people ever work or is all there time spent scheming on ways to rip off the system.

MAYBE HE SHOULD HAVE TALKED TO MARTHA STEWART
Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tenn., was updated several times about his investments in blind trusts during 2002, the last time two weeks before he publicly denied any knowledge of what was in the accounts, documents show.
The updates included stock transactions involving HCA Inc., the hospital operating company founded by Frist's family.
Frist's sale of HCA stock is under scrutiny by the federal government. Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA said Friday it had received a subpoena from prosecutors for the Southern District of New York, asking for documents the company believes are related to Frist's sale of company stock this past summer.
Prosecutors also have contacted the senator's office, Frist spokesman Bob Stevenson said Friday. He said neither the senator nor his office had received a subpoena.

DO'S AND DON'TS
Do's and Don'ts for Anti-War Rally This Saturday
As some of you may know, there are anti-war rallies to be held all around the country Saturday. Sadly, I've been to too many Denver anti-war protests to keep my mouth shut. I'm not trying to be holier than thou, or say that I know all the answers. In fact, I do use generalizations quite a bit. But I just can't take it anymore. Here are the Do's and Don'ts for an anti-war rally. All of the issues I bring up here have actually happened at different protests I've been too. For the sake of sanity, it has to stop.
Don'ts:
Don't have a hippy drum circle:
Don't have a gothic pagan chorus on the stage talking about mermaids:
Don't talk about gay rights or other issues that have little to do with the Iraqi invasion:
Don't use the slogan "No Blood For Oil!":
Don't set up a f**king T-shirt stand selling Anti-Bush propaganda made in Hanes sweatshop factories:
Don't march to the Halliburton building:
Don't talk for an hour and a half, leaving supporters standing:
Don't wear black bandanas or gas masks:
Do's
Do have police monitors in the march:
Do invite organizations with free food to attend:

DONAHUE: Very good. Very good. Congratulations! You should be proud .. O'REILLY (starts to lose it, shouting, pointing finger, hand shaking): And he's a patriot, so don't denigrate his service or I'll boot you right off the set!!!
DONAHUE: I'm not ... I'm not ... O'REILLY (very, very loud): That boy made a decision to serve his country!!! Do not denigrate him or you're outta here!!!

I'M TAKING BETS
With all that has happened since Hurricane Katrina devastated the Gulf Coast and everyone pointing fingers at everyone else maybe it's time someone showed some real LEADERSHIP.
The estimated cost for the repair of this disaster is over $200 billion dollars. The president wants to put it on the Credit Card for our kids to pay. NO LEADERSHIP THERE.
Congress doesn't want to cancel any of it's recently passed Pork Laden Highway bill. You knew that, right. NO LEADERSHIP THERE.
So it falls to the local level to show some leadership.
Will the City of Bremerton or the State Department of Transportation step forward and suggest that maybe we don't need the Golden Ferry Tunnel and turn back the $16 million coming from that same PORK Highway bill.
Now that takes LEADERSHIP.
Any bet's?

My Oh My it's a full time job trying to keep up with the lies, misleading statements and "creative" editing that FOX NEWS does on a daily if not hourly basis.
From the September 19 edition of Fox News' Special Report with Brit Hume:
HUME: Former President Bill Clinton has now done something his predecessor, the first President George Bush, DID NOT DO, and that is criticize the sitting president and his administration.
Host Brit Hume claimed that President Clinton, in a recent interview on ABC's This Week, did something that President George H.W. Bush "did not do, and that is criticize the sitting president and his administration."
But contrary to Hume's assertion, Bush repeatedly criticized Clinton administration policies while Clinton was in office.
Here is a partial list:
- In an appearance at a San Antonio grade school on October 13, 1993
- In an interview published in the February 1994 issue of Washingtonian magazine
- In a March 8, 1994, speech in Indian Wells, California
- On April 8, 1994, Bush gave a lecture at Carl Albert State College in Poteau, Oklahoma
- During a July 26, 1996, news conference with Bob Dole.
- While campaigning with Dole days before the 1996 presidential election.

BUSH OFFICIAL ARRESTED IN CORRUPTION PROBE
The Bush administration's top federal procurement official resigned Friday and was arrested yesterday, accused of lying and obstructing a criminal investigation into Republican lobbyist Jack Abramoff's dealings with the federal government. It was the first criminal complaint filed against a government official in the ongoing corruption probe related to Abramoff's activities in Washington.
The complaint, filed by the FBI, alleges that David H. Safavian, 38, a White House procurement official involved until last week in Hurricane Katrina relief efforts, made repeated false statements to government officials and investigators about a golf trip with Abramoff to Scotland in 2002.
Note to Tom DeLay: They're getting closer!!!
FOX NEWS AND BILL O'REILLY ARE SHAMELESS
Bill O'Reilly had Dick Morris on his show last night. They were talking about MISINFORMATION and TRUTH if you can believe that.
It's was interesting because Dick is supposed to be this really smart analyst but when he said that he believes that Bush had turned it around and that he made the greatest speech since his joint session with congress after 9/11.
I'm thinking what the hell is he smoking. The speech was made last Thursday and this was Monday night. Most people thought it was just another staged event and not that effective in delivery or substance.
The poll that came out over the weekend after the speech show that America didn't buy it. The numbers are done even further after he gave it.
He is just such a jerk and the messenger for FOX NEWS CORP.
One final thing Bill O'Reilly talking about misinformation and truth is laughable. He makes Media Matters Web report almost daily. It's just sad that more people can't see that.

He said: "we had a tremendous amount of the burden that was handed to us by the Clinton administration with the growth of the Government scandals". What the hell is he talking about. As I recall he was the one that had the scandal, didn't he have to step down? Maybe that's what he means. Click to watch. <----( watch the video here ) I really wonder about the Mayor Ray Nagin of New Orleans. I'm not at all convinced he knows what he's doing. I think he didn't have a plan when he evacuated the city and I don't think he has one when he called for the people to come back home. I don't think he'll be mayor after the next election. * Sometimes you get, and sometimes you get got. No new post today. Call the American Red Cross NOW! I'm no financial expert in fact it took me almost a lifetime to learn that credit cards are like slot machines in that they exist to make someone money - - - just not the user. With that in mind the cost of the war in Iraq right now is $195,368,500,000 ( Washington States share is currently at $4,633,600,000 ) while the cost in the reconstruction/recovery in the Gulf disaster is estimated to top $200,000,000,000. All of this is being put on a credit card ( called the National Debt currently at $7,924,221,241,204.07 ) rather than making the hard choices of raising taxes and stopping the tax cuts. Why is this? Some think so that president Bush can say he won't raise taxes. To me this is nuts. Along with that debt comes the interest to pay off that loan. And as I said before China is one of the biggest lenders. I think they are about 27% of the total. Jesus, Bush is a republican what the hell dose that mean any more? I know many people think that they already pay to much in taxes and that money isn't being spent correctly by state and federal programs and that may be PARTLY true. But I grew up as part of the "GREATEST GENERATION" as Tom Brokaw labeled it. We made sacrifices including gas rationing, we had war bond drives and collected newspapers, old tires and metals as well as other programs to work to pay for the war. We could be another "GREATEST GENERATION" if anyone in congress had any balls they would push to pass legislation to get this country into a "debt reduction program" and to hell with the Bush plan of more and more debt. NOW THAT'S LEADERSHIP, and I think America is ready for the challenge. Not as long as I thought but if he is in there for most of the time I'm ok with that. * If you find yourself in a hole, the first thing to do is stop diggin'. No new post today. Call the American Red Cross NOW! What they say you get. What you get. EPA plans to revamp mileage testing, ratings called too high. well duh!!! The Environmental Protection Agency says it will propose by the end of this year significant changes to the way it estimates automobile fuel economy ratings -- the miles-per-gallon numbers shoppers see on price stickers in the windows of trucks and cars. People and countless reports have said this for years and now these guys are going to try to fix it by the end of the year. Are they in a race with FEMA to see who is more worthless? The agency has long been faulted for test methods, based on decades-old driving habits, that in most cases overestimate the miles per gallon drivers can expect. The EPA is acting as consumer groups such as traveler-friendly American Automobile Association and Consumers Union, a nonprofit advocacy group, are calling for such changes, and consumers, spurred by the latest surge in gasoline prices, are paying more attention to their fuel consumption. I have little or no hope that they will change anything. Just like the 2 mile per gal increase over the next 5 years announced by the Transportation Dept. will not solve the high cost of gas. * Timing has a lot to do with the outcome of a rain dance. Brett's in Chicago, that wonderful town. He has a new post and some pictures. Check it out. Call the American Red Cross NOW! Today's Kitsap Sun has a big spread on the proposed NASCAR Track to be located here in Kitsap County. They show a lot of big numbers here which is good and bad. Good if they come true, bad if they don't. With the kind of money they talk about here I wonder why it's even necessary for them to ask for aid of any kind. Seems to me they should build it and pocket the whole nine yards. The Tax PIE is shared by everyone and it will be very hard for Kitsap not to buy into this deal if these numbers are even close. A heavy flow of money will follow if a NASCAR racetrack is built in Kitsap County, according to a much-anticipated economic impact analysis released Friday by International Speedway Corp. The 17-page report, completed by Seattle-based economic consultants Berk & Associates, says the state and Kitsap, King and Pierce counties will see a significant increase in tax revenue and consumer spending if a proposal to build an 81,500-seat speedway in South Kitsap moves forward. The report also estimates a whopping $4 billion in visitor spending impact, on an inflation-adjusted basis, over 30 years. The state Office of Financial Management and the Department of Revenue reviewed the numbers and methodologies used in preparing the 17-page report, according to the study. The economic impact study was released as a precursor to a public-private finance package that ISC officials say will be unveiled in the next few months. Lynch and other ISC officials presented the economic impact study Friday morning to legislators on the House Economic Development, Agriculture and Trade Committee. ISC officials will present the study Monday to the state Senate International Trade and Economic Development Committee. ISC officials have said they would like some type of public financing package to help pay for construction of the $300 million project. "It's the starting point that we've been waiting on." I'll drink to that!!! No new post today. Call the American Red Cross NOW! I watched president Bush talk last night and found it strange that I didn't see one black face in the crowd. Plus the background image seemed out of place. I would have thought pictures of the devastation would have been more appropriate. The other thing I don't get is the "no tie - open shirt" thing. Does that mean he is closer to the people or does it mean he's about ready to go to work cleaning up some of the junk floating around. Yes I know this is stupid stuff in the face of all that has happened but sometimes it's better to laugh because if you don't you'll cry. Will anything come of all this other than spending billions of dollars? I'm not real confident. When it comes to the poor we're talking about a "culture change". A term by the way that has been driven down our throats by the right almost everyday for the past 5 years, only this time the shoe is on the other foot. We have our "TOKEN" tent city over in King County. With maybe 100 people total. But there must be more than that in a county as big a King county. But unlike New Orleans we don't have a disaster to pull back the covers to expose it. I find it interesting that many on the right will say that FDR was wrong or the Great Society didn't work. Well I think that FDR was closer to being right when you look a social security (even with it's flaws), it's lasted for over 70 years. As for the Great Society I say it's like doing research to find a cure for what ever, you don't stop research because your most recent test failed you try again and again. This administration and congress have been disassembling the Social Safety Net of the country for more than five years now. From the privatization of Social Security to the Bankruptcy legislation, the Medicare Prescription Drug plan is a joke as is No child left behind. Maybe the one good thing that will come out of the Katrina disaster will be an awareness of the need for change in attitude in the hearts and minds of half the country. Paying prevailing wage is a step backwards. But that's not a problem for a $150,000.00 dollar a year senator, and a dumb one at that. But in the whirlwind romantic life of the Oscar-winning actress, a lot can happen in seven days. Wednesday in Los Angeles, Zellweger checked the paperwork box marked "fraud," and filed for an annulment from her country star husband of four months. (What does FRAUD mean???). Zellweger, 36, and Chesney, 37, wed May 9 on a beach in the Virgin Islands. The bride wore a strapless Carolina Herrera; the groom, a black Stetson. The ceremony, held in front of friends and family, came about five months after the couple met at a tsunami relief benefit in January. "I am incredibly happy," Three days later, Chesney resumed his Somewhere in the Sun tour. Can Tom Cruse be far behind. * Live a good, honorable life. No new post today. Call the American Red Cross NOW! If you watch The O'Reilly Factor and don't check Media Matters for America to check the rest of the story your missing the TRUTH. For some reason he has a problem with context. For example this little gem. Fox News host Bill O'Reilly compared the poverty rate in 1996 with the poverty rate in 2004 to falsely suggest that President Bush has done more to reduce poverty in the United States than President Clinton. O'Reilly cited the statistics in response to claims, which he described as "complete nonsense," that the Bush administration has neglected impoverished Americans. While O'Reilly is correct that the poverty rate in 1996 was higher than in 2004, he took those numbers out of context to mask a far more significant fact: The poverty rate declined every year of the Clinton presidency and has increased every year under the Bush presidency. Put another way, the poverty rate was higher now than it was when Clinton left office. During the Clinton presidency, the poverty rate fell from 15.1 percent in 1993 to a low of 11.3 percent in 2000; it has risen every year that Bush has been in office, from 11.7 percent in 2001 to 12.7 percent in 2004. It's fascinating that O'Reilly can spout this crap with a straight face. He does it on an almost daily bases and that's the truth. Click to watch. <----( watch the video here ) Timing is everything, but it looks to me like Michael Brown has none. None when it comes to FEMA and none when it comes to stepping down. Once again it's to little to late. It took him three days to read the writing on the wall and react to it when he was sent packing back to DC. This is the one guy in America and maybe the world that at the height of the New Orleans evacuation crisis, appeared not to know that 25,000 people were crammed into the city's convention center without food, water or toilets, despite television reports broadcasting that fact for the previous 24 hours. I personally think that President Bush should have shown some leadership and FIRED the guy. This stuff about loyalty is fine but sometimes the country needs to be sent a message that says I'm on the job, I'm on top of the situation and I'm in charge. Having The courage to replace someone that is out of his element has NOTHING TO DO WITH LOYALTY, it has to do with doing what is right and often hard to do. We all wish Mr. Brown well. One last thing I hope that congress works to move FEMA out of Homeland Security and make it a cabinet level position with the added requirement that the TOP 2-3 positions in that agency be required to have had demonstrated qualifications. Click to watch. <----( watch the video here ) After saying that he hadn't heard that Brown has step down (do these folks really believe that the American public is that stupid) as Director of FEMA, President Bush starts another controversy when he named R. David Paulison as the new FEMA head. I got this from one of the Blogs I visit and can't remember which one, sorry. Bush wasted no time in finding former FEMA chief Mike Brown's successor Brown. You may remember Paulison's claim to fame as being the man who told us several years ago that the best way to protect ourselves from a chemical weapons attack was to stock up on duct tape, water, and to kiss our asses good bye. (that last bit was an editorial remark). And if you want to know how bad it has become in the White House, Bush didn't even know that Brown had resigned today, even though Brown told the media that he had discussed this with Andy Card Saturday. Guess that's par for the course and seems it's how they have handled this whole disaster. Just one more example that shows The White House is in a DEEP FUNK. ASPCA. <----( Click to visit this site. ) Humane Society United States. <----( Click to visit this site. ) I have been messing around with computers for the last 250 years. I still have my first PC, it's a Radio Shack TRS-80. I also have the first word processing program that I have ever bought. It cost about $35.00 and you know what it was probably the only word processing program I have ever needed. I could have save several thousands of dollars. Anyway, I keep hearing, and this has been true for years now that computers are getting easier and easier to use. Well all I have to say about that is BULLSHIT. Yesterday I decided to upgrade my Quicken 2002 program to Quicken 2006. They changed some file formats which meant I could no longer download my bank and credit card data. So I stopped using the program in May. Well a couple weeks ago Costco had the new 2006 version on sale for $30 bucks. I decided to install it yesterday. The upgrade went just fine. And then it was time to go about the task of updating my data which the program allows you to bring in your old file and it'll convert it to the new format. As it turns out this process was pretty easy. But I have ended up with one problem, no make that two problems. Most of my data was updated correctly except for one file that I spent about 8 hours trying to get it to balance. It was doing strange things like old balances from say 2003 were in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. For example if the correct balance was $254.01 Quicken showed something like $164,135.00. What was really strange was that if I created a Registry Report it was fine. The ending balance was correct. . . go figure. I messed around with it trying different things until I decided I needed to put it aside until tomorrow. When I loaded it you just now everything looks fine. All balances are correct and the individual transactions look correct. I'll print out the current years report and check it with my Excel spreadsheet and make sure that it's ok. To be honest I haven't a clue what I did to fix the damn thing. It's all magic. But it's NOT EASIER. * Most of the stuff people worry about ain't never gonna happen anyway. Mildred, the church gossip and self-appointed arbiter of the church's morals, kept sticking her nose into other people's business. Several residents were unappreciative of her activities, but feared her enough to maintain their silence. She made a mistake, however, when she accused George, a new member, of being an alcoholic after she saw his pickup truck parked in front of the town's only bar one afternoon. She commented to George, and many others, that everyone seeing it there would know what he was doing. George, a man of few words, stared at her for a moment and just walked away. He didn't explain, defend, or deny...he just said nothing. Later that evening, George quietly parked his pickup in front of Mildred's house.....and left it there all night. No new post today. Click on the link below and send a message to congress. Following last week’s devastating hurricane and flooding in the Gulf region, Congress acted quickly to pass an initial $10.5 billion relief package. On Tuesday, President Bush asked for an additional $40 billion, bringing the total to more than $50 billion. This amount could double to $100 billion. History has shown Congress’ propensity to take advantage of emergency supplemental spending bills by inserting funds for their member’s own pet projects. Even though funds are desperately needed by Hurricane Katrina’s victims, members of Congress will undoubtedly still attempt to insert some self-serving pork. Already, there are calls for aid for drought relief in the mid-West, even though such funding could be provided through the regular appropriations bills for fiscal year 2006, which Congress has yet to approve. The Council for Citizens Against Government Waste (CCAGW) has challenged members of Congress to block funding for unrelated pork projects in its aid for hurricane recovery and to help offset the costs by returning the $24 billion for the 6,400 earmarks in the recently enacted highway bill. Please write to your legislators today. Urge them to sign CCAGW's "Hurricane Katrina No Pork Pledge," through which they can vow to oppose any project or provision that is not directly related to the impact of Hurricane Katrina in any supplemental appropriations bill that provides funds for hurricane relief. If there has ever been a time for Congress to reject pork and cut the waste, that time is now. The widespread devastation and loss of life resulting from this disaster should shame members of Congress into forgoing egregious spending that will hinder recovery efforts and add to the deficit. Please write to your Representative and Senators today and urge them to sign CCAGW's "Hurricane Katrina No Pork Pledge" and not waste precious tax dollars needed by struggling disaster victims. Like many users of email and the internet I get tons of mail that I wade through each day. Some of it is stuff that I have signed up to get like breaking news from CNN or daily newsletters on various subjects like daily computer tips from Kim Komando the list goes on and on. I also get lots of stories and jokes sent by family and friends. From time to time I get the story that says "if you don't send this to at least 10,000 of your closest friends" the world will stop spinning. And yes even spam. Pretty typical of what you must go through on a daily bases. Because of this I rarely forward or even reply to most of this stuff. You can do only so much. I have on occasion sent out some of the same stuff that I talk about above but I use the Group option in Outlook Express to send it to folks that I send and receive messages on a fairly routine bases. The other day I sent out a message to all the people in one of these groups. It was a bit of a political message asking every one to send a message to the leadership of the current administration to take the idea of tax cuts for the wealthy off the table. It gave John Kerry's web site to do this. So when I got this reply back from one of the folks in my group I was very surprised. Here it is: They obviously are PC illiterate because they don't seem to know about the "DELETE" key. I sent back this reply: A bit crude don't you think? On the other hand I see your "Christ Like" feelings are coming through loud and clear. I'm sure you'll pray as hard for the folks in the disaster area as well. I talk about this because it amazes me that some people can not seem to demonstrate some civility when it comes to politics, especially if it goes against what they feel. Sure to this person my email deserved the "DELETE" key, I have no problem with that. But being so crude in his reply shows the level of discourse we have come to expect in this country. I'm not sure what has caused this but I think that part of it has to do with Talk Radio and some of cable TV and to the Internet as well. I especially like the "Religious" connection that is made. And I say what would Jesus do. Right, he would use the delete key. I just love the hypocrisy of the statement. According to the Kitsap Sun: Silverdale -- Though many Kitsap residents may be undecided about a proposed NASCAR track, dozens gave county commissioners passionate opinions Tuesday night. Around 250 people filled the Klahowya Secondary School auditorium for a hearing with county commissioners.
Many had questions that will not be answered for months. Kitsap County planners gave audience members a one-page list of the details made public thus far. Track developer International Speedway Corp., or ISC, has not yet applied for permits for the proposed 81,500-seat track on 950 acres near Bremerton National Airport. The facility would be owned by a public agency created by the Legislators. The project is expected to cost $300 million, including funds for transportation, utilities and event-related traffic management. Opponents cited concerns about traffic jams, public funding, the use of leaded fuel during races and environmental destruction pushing wildlife closer to homes. This is not good economic development, we do not need more minimum-wage jobs with no benefits. By my count 39 spoke against the track, while 20 spoke for it and 2 had no opinion but wanted to keep an open mind.
I looked up the winnings paid out in 2004 on the NASCAR.COM web site and they paid out over $166 million. I couldn't find out ho much NASCAR made as a Corporation in 2004 but I would guess it's 5 to 10 times that amount. I don't care if they build a track here in Kitsap, I just don't want to use my tax dollar on this effort. McClellan tried several times to deflect Gregory, using the new Bush spin that anyone who questions the federal response to Katrina is playing the "blame game" and that now is not the time to "finger point." She speaks her mind and from time to time goes off the deep end, which I like. But this interview she did talking about the job being done at the Houston relief center is over the edge even for me. It is the complete insensitivity of her statement that is so disappointing. Here is what she said. NEW YORK Accompanying her husband, former President George H.W.Bush, on a tour of hurricane relief centers in Houston, Barbara Bush said today, referring to the poor who had lost everything back home and evacuated, "This is working very well for them." The former First Lady's remarks were aired this evening on National Public Radio's "Marketplace" program. She was part of a group in Houston today at the Astrodome that included her husband and former President Bill Clinton, who were chosen by her son, the current president, to head fundraising efforts for the recovery. Sen. Hilary Clinton and Sen. Barack Obama were also present. In a segment at the top of the show on the surge of evacuees to the Texas city, Barbara Bush said: "Almost everyone I've talked to says we're going to move to Houston." Then she added: "What I'm hearing which is sort of scary is they all want to stay in Texas. Everyone is so overwhelmed by the hospitality. "And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway, so this--this (she chuckles slightly) is working very well for them." Jessie Jackson is blinded by his color. His charge that the US Government is totally at fault is just wrong. And this GOD DAMN nonsense about the use of the word REFUGEE is just such BULLSHIT I can't even imagine educated people talking about it. Look it up in your dictionary it DOES NOT mean that these people are a lower class or that they are black or that they are NOT AMERICANS . . . it means they are REFUGEES. Of course we know that the people down there are Americans and now they are HOMELESS and I suppose that will create a big to do as well. To me it's a simple concept. They and we need to address the real issues and not make up imagined ones. Last Saturday I said that the Director and Deputy Director of FEMA should be fired. I still feel that way even more so after reading the qualifications of Mike Brown. What an embarrassment for the Government this must be. But if Bush STAYS THE COURSE he'll give this guy a medal. Saw this in the Washington Post: Republican leaders intended to return to work with a dream agenda for small-government conservatives: permanent repeal of the estate tax, an extension of deep cuts to capital gains and dividend taxes, the first entitlement spending cuts in nearly a decade, and the advent of private investment accounts for Social Security. The federal budget already is stretched by spending on the war in Iraq and a nearly $11 billion emergency hurricane relief package that was rushed through Congress late this week. GOP leaders will have to justify additional tax relief for upper-income people at a time of civil and economic crisis. "How do you do tax cuts when your budget is straining to save lives?" asked Rep. Mark Foley (R-Fla). The Ways and Means Committee on which Foley serves had been set to pass a package of tax cuts and spending cuts by the end of September, followed by broad, controversial Social Security legislation. Katrina "is going to have a tremendous impact," he added. House Majority Whip Roy Blunt (Mo.) said he has every intention of pushing forward with the tax and spending cuts and Social Security legislation. Hurricane-related legislation will not be controversial and "may mean we work on a Friday or two," he said. These folks need to be voted out of office. NOW!!! I think this video says more than anything I can say. Click to watch. <----( watch the video here ) * Say a prayer for my daughter, she had a miscarriage last night. * Do not corner something that you know is meaner than you.
Sorry no joke today. No post today he's on the road again. Call the American Red Cross NOW! I got an idea. You know the Transportation Package that congress just passed. I think they should eliminate ALL NEW CONSTRUCTION like that damn bridge to no where in Alaska and the STUPID BREMERTON TUNNEL and use all that money on the Gulf disaster. Where the hell is Dick Cheney? Why does Costco put Christmas stuff out in August? Why is it IMPOSSIBLE for ANYONE in this administration to TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITY? Where is the outrage in the SO CALLED Leadership in this country. They are all saying it's "HARD WORK" or they are patting themselves on the back. They say there is time LATER ON to point fingers. I say BULLSHIT the time is now. The FEMA director and deputy director BOTH need to be fired. . . NOW!!! Celine Dion was on the Larry King special last night and had a few words to say about what is going on. This is worth watching even though it's a little long. In the end she pulls herself together and sings "The Prayer", I haven't heard her sing it better. I've noticed that some of the reporters like Anderson Cooper, Soledad O'Brien both from CNN. Even FOX Geraldo Rivera and Shepard Smith are all questioning what the hell is going on down here. Obvious questions are now being answered. I'm not talking complex questions, I'm talking basic questions like why couldn't they at least drop water and food from Planes or Helicopters from day one. The Mayor of New Orleans is not without some responsibility. He should have ordered every damn Bus, Truck, Taxi, Car that the city had to get the people out when he decided to evacuate the city. They know that they have a lot of poor people in town and would need help. Come on if your attending all these Homeland Security meetings, you need to talk and PLAN on this crap. Click to watch. <----( watch the video here ) Jon continues his rant on Talking Points and develops a dance. Click to watch. <----( watch the video here ) * Forgive your enemies. It messes up their heads. The trouble with bucket seats is that not everybody has the same size bucket. Do you realize that in about 40 years, we'll have thousands of old ladies running around with tattoos? Money can't buy happiness -- but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than in a Hyundai. Drinking makes some husbands see double and feel single. Living in a nudist colony takes all the fun out of Halloween. After a certain age, if you don't wake up aching in every joint, you are probably dead. New post from Brett. Seems to me he's getting the royal treatment or he's just lucky. Call the American Red Cross NOW! Will we have to wait for the BIG ONE here before we find out if we are prepared??? Something to think about. There is a lot of SPIN going on in the aftermath of the presidents visit to the disaster area. From what I've seen the folks that accompanied him have all said he showed great concern and compassion. They said they did not hear one negative comment from any of the people that Bush met on the ground in Biloxi. I have a problem with this because how I've seen this administration conduct their so called Town Hall meetings. They are well screened and scripted. The other thing I noticed about this visit was that their was clear roads, yes massive destruction all around but you could at least walk around and not be in 4-5 feet of water. I also think that the Director of FEMA Michael Brown and Patrick Rhode FEMA Deputy Director should both be fired. They can't seem to answer even the most basic question. Brown didn't know jask-S that there were people in the Dome and Rhode didn't know why buses had stopped running over night. That's their damn job to know what the hell is going on. It seems to me that the folks that do the planning for these disasters need to go back to school. To order the evacuation of a city and not have plans in place to get the poor, sick and elderly out is not only stupid to me it's down right criminal. We don't seem to learn form history. We were surprised and shocked at 9/11 but have we done ONE thing to protect our boarders. We established the Department of Homeland Security and what happens on their FIRST test. Failure - it's just that simple, no other way to say it. Yes I'm sure they will recover but in this game you have to hit a home run every time you are up to bat. That's just the way it is. We create a PORK laden highway bills and cut by 80% the funds to fix the Levee. Yes I know that the work would not have been done in time to prevent what happened, that's not the point. The point is we screw up our priorities buy not thinking about what is best for the country as a whole. We have no business Nation Building especially when OUR OWN NATION is in need of repair. We need to solve the dependence of OIL. One way is to increase the MPG we get on ALL automobiles, trucks, Vans and SUVS. It should be a National goal like JFK's man on the moon idea. This goal should be a FIVE year plan. The last thing I'd like to see us do is stop Quibbling over a word - Refugee. This is not a race word, it's not to put anyone down. . . it's a damn word and means: "One who flees in search of refuge, as in times of war, political oppression, or religious persecution." according to my dictionary. I've heard it used and I know exactly what they are saying. It has NOTHING to do with skin color or being a SECOND CLASS Citizen. Enough already. Jon continues his rant on Talking Points and develops a dance. Click to watch. <----( watch the video here ) * Meanness don't jes' happen overnight. A large company, feeling it was time for a shakeup, hired a new CEO. This new boss was determined to rid the company of all slackers. On a tour of the facilities, the CEO noticed a guy leaning on a wall. The room was full of workers and he wanted to let
them know that he meant business! The new CEO walked up to the guy leaning against the wall and asked, "How much money do you make a week?" A little surprised, the young fellow looked at him and replied, "I make $300 a week. Why?" The CEO then handed the guy $1,200 in cash and screamed, "Here's four weeks' pay, now GET OUT and don't come back." Feeling pretty good about himself, the CEO looked around the room and asked, "Does anyone want to tell me what that
goof-off did here?" From across the room came a voice, "Pizza delivery guy from Domino's. Back on the road again. Call the American Red Cross NOW! If there is anything we in the Northwest, specifically Washington State can learn from the disaster in New Orleans it's how important the infrastructure is in providing needed services during a disaster. We need to VOTE NO on I-912 so that we can start working on these Highways, Bridges and Tunnels. New Orleans didn't fix the levy in time and now will pay many times what it would have costs in the first place. IT'S CALLED PLANNING and by being a responsible citizen. TV and News reporters seem to have no trouble getting in and out of the disaster area yet the various emergency folks can't seem to find the place. I'm thinking we need to turn over Homeland Security to the TV/NEWS folks so that help gets to the folks that need it. Jon continues his rant on Talking Points. Click to watch. <----( watch the video here ) * Words that soak into your ears are whispered...not yelled. Have you heard about the new restaurant on the moon? Great food, but no atmosphere! Brett made it to Murdo, SD. Where the hell is Murdo? There is a new post today so check it out. Is the FLOOD in New Orleans and the Hurricane Katrina one and the same? Some people are saying they are two different events. One the act of nature and the other a preventable disaster. Listen to this commentary on the funding to fix the Levies in New Orleans to understand what happened. Click to listen. <----( listen to the audio here ) So the cost of the war in Iraq is in part the reason to stop or cut back the funding that could have prevented the flooding in New Orleans. The current cost of the Iraq war is $ 191,401,500,000 and going up. President Bush on Good Morning America said: NO PLAN. LIKE IRAQ THERE IS NO PLAN TO DEAL WITH THIS CRISIS. Stand by and watch. . . isn't that the same as STAY THE COURSE? Call the American Red Cross NOW! If you needed proof that price gouging is going on look here. Jon has a point on Talking Points.
