WE ALL NEED TO HELP

BRETT'S EXCELLENT JOURNEY DAY 31

Wall-31.jpg

Brett is in Wall, South Dakota. You may have heard of the Drug store in Wall it's a big deal and people from all around the country come to Wall to see it. Read his latest post.

YOU CAN HELP

GiveRedCross.jpg

This week millions of Americans fled Hurricane Katrina. Across the South families abandoned their homes and businesses, not knowing what would be there when they returned.

Many stayed behind and suffered devastating loss and injuries -- nearly a hundred have died that we know of, and hundreds of thousands need our help.

America is at its best when we realize that we are one community -- that we're all in this together. That means that each one of us has the responsibility to do what we can to help the relief effort.

The Red Cross is a great place to start:

They are already moving people and resources into the region to help. Donations will provide clean water, food, and shelter for disaster victims. The Red Cross web site also has important information for victims and their relatives across the country.

Many local Red Cross chapters are organizing volunteers to travel to affected areas -- doctors and nurses to provide medical care, workers to build shelters, first responders to assist in rescue operations.

You can find your local chapter here to learn what you can do:

We are still learning the full story of the devastation, but there is no time to wait. Please do something now.

Thank you.

WHY DO THEY WORRY SO MUCH

AirAmerica0830.jpg

The folks on the right seem to worry big time about little ole AIR AMERICA by saying how bad their ratings are. It would seem to me if the ratings are that bad they (the right) don't have anything to worry about.

Seems to me you worry about some one that is doing good because they are becoming a threat.

Oh, I get it THEY ARE A THREAT.

THE PRICE OF GAS IS GOING UP

Man president Bush can't catch a break. It looks like the price of gas is going up about 15 cents a gallon in the next day or two. Home heating oil is going up as is natural gas.

It's going to be a cold, cold winter. Might think twice if your just running to the store for a gallon of milk, a little planning will save you bucks.

While everyone of the News and Cable channels are talking about the storm in the Gulf the other news is being missed. They have been on this storm since Friday. Endless reporters standing in water up to their ankles to show how bad it is. What the hell is that all about.

They spend HOURS and HOURS and HOURS on this storm, yet when thier is an interesting discussion and someone is about to make a great point the cut away for a commercial and the thought gets lost. Pisser.

Army Contract Official Critical of Halliburton Pact Is Demoted

A top Army contracting official who criticized a large, noncompetitive contract with the Halliburton Company for work in Iraq was demoted Saturday for what the Army called poor job performance.

The official, Bunnatine H. Greenhouse, has worked in military procurement for 20 years and for the past several years had been the chief overseer of contracts at the Army Corps of Engineers, the agency that has managed much of the reconstruction work in Iraq.

The demotion removes her from the elite Senior Executive Service and reassigns her to a lesser job in the corps' civil works division.

Ms. Greenhouse's lawyer, Michael Kohn, called the action an "obvious reprisal" for the strong objections she raised in 2003 to a series of corps decisions involving the Halliburton subsidiary Kellogg Brown & Root, which has garnered more than $10 billion for work in Iraq.

Dick Cheney led Halliburton, which is based in Texas, before he became vice president.

Known as a stickler for the rules on competition, Ms. Greenhouse initially received stellar performance ratings, Mr. Kohn said. But her reviews became negative at roughly the time she began objecting to decisions she saw as improperly favoring Kellogg Brown & Root, he said. Often she hand-wrote her concerns on the contract documents, a practice that corps leaders called unprofessional and confusing.

In October 2004, General Strock, citing two consecutive performance reviews that called Ms. Greenhouse an uncooperative manager, informed her that she would be demoted.

A Pentagon spokesman said Sunday that the inspector general's office could not be reached for comment.

This women has over 20 years of good and faithful service and now HER PERFORMANCE IS BAD. These guys just can't HANDEL THE TRUTH. I hope she fights the jerks that made this decision and embarrass the hell out of them. Maybe getting some money would be nice as well - - - a lot of money.

Oh and about that inspector general's office. . .it had APPARENTLY BEEN MOVED!!!

THIS IS YOUR FACE ON METH

So you really think doing METH is a good idea? These are police mug shots over several years of this women that had been arrested a number of times , at least 9 by my count.

NOTE: The number on the left of each image is the order that she was arrested and is used to show the sequence of her face changes.

Watch the video it shows what can happen and usually does to people caught up using METH. In addition to changing their looks it destroys families. The kids are the biggest losers in all this.

It may be trite to say but how else do you say it than to JUST SAY NO!

FAIR IS FAIR

I dislike FOXNEWS for a lot of reasons. To me they are neither Fair nor Balanced. But having said that I think the are getting some unwanted and unfair press, especially from CNN about something a Talking Head said and did on the air.

During one of their Talk Shows one of the people they had on to talk about Terrorism in America gave out the name and address of the man he said was a terrorist. Turns out he was wrong, dead wrong.

As a result of this the family has had slurs spay painted on there house. Phone calls and people driving by their place all hours of the day and night.

Yes it was a STUPID thing to do and the guy needs to be fired for doing it. But that was NOT FOX's fault it was the Talking Head guest.

The real problem are the people that have acted on this information or maybe a better way to put it is misinformation. Why do they do that. Are they wanting to do something really stupid?

Just so you know I haven't changed my mind about FOX, I'm working on a video clip and hope to finish it in a day or so.

THINKING ABOUT BUYING A BIGGER HOUSE

MortgageDue.jpg

You need to visit PBS.ORG/NOW (Click here)
to learn what many if not all lenders are doing in terms of the type of mortgages that they offer.

If your thinking about one of these Interest-only mortgages you need to think long and hard about it. Read about them at the NOW site. You'll thank me later.

New Mortgages Overview

The boom in real estate prices in America is being fueled in part by interest-only mortgages that are flooding the market with easy money for home buyers. Are these mortgages fabulous new financing tools that are helping more Americans buy homes, or are they a dangerous symptom of a housing bubble that is about to pop? NOW travels to California, where housing prices are continuing to explode, to investigate the risks and benefits of new financing vehicles that are enticing buyers into bigger houses than they ever thought they could afford. Learn more about these new lending models below.

The mortgage industry has been loosening their standards in a variety of ways - reducing minimum credit scores; allowing borrowers to finance more of a home's value; permitting borrowers to carry a higher debt load. They have also introduced new loan products:

* Interest-only mortgages: These allow borrowers to pay interest and no principal in the loan's early years, which keeps payments low for a time.

* Option adjustable-mortgages: These loans carry introductory rates of as low as 1% and give borrowers multiple payment choices. But borrowers who elect the minimum payment can see their loan balance rise.

* Piggyback loans: These combine a mortgage with a home-equity loan or line of credit, allowing borrowers to finance more than 80% of the home's value without paying for private mortgage insurance.

* No-documentation and low-documentation loans: Under these programs, borrowers can take out a loan while providing little if any documentation of their income or assets. (Source: THE WALL STREET JOURNAL)

BLACK BERRIES

MyBerries02.jpg MyBerries01.jpg

I love Black berries. For the past 4-5 years I've been picking my own berries from a black berry patch that grows around and over a big tree stump in my back yard.

The picture doesn't show the stump but honest it's almost right in the middle of the black berry bush, I think you can call it a bush.

This is about 2-3 cups worth that I picked today. I pick about that much every 2 days or so and have done so for all of August. They'll last me well into September.

I'll cut it way, way back later in the fall and watch mother nature in the spring work her magic. It'll come back bigger and better than this year as it did last year and the year before.

It's a lot of fun and makes me feel like I could quit my day job and become a farmer. Hey wait a minute I don't have a job and there are some that already say I am a farmer.

SO I LIED

Amy Robach stood in for Keith this night. I find her a lot nicer to look at than Keith but I like his sense of humor.

This isn't about Pat Robertson because he didn't make the cut. His WIMPY retraction the other day didn't qualify him for the Countdown Apology Hall of Fame.

I GOT TO GET THIS UP EARLIER IN THE DAY

BRETT'S EXCELLENT JOURNEY DAY 26

Brett must be making excellent time as he hasn't posted in two days. I'm not sure I'll be able to shrink the map small enough and still have it readable.

Visit his site here. He has maps, info on how you can help. Background information and much more. He will be updating his site daily.

BACK TO BASICS

I've been distracted by the rest of the world lately, you know the Pat Robertson statement, the WAR in IRAQ, the Continuation in IRAQ (now theirs a JOKE if you're a women living in Iraq).

So I need to get back to some local issues. Which I'll start with my favorite local item that I've been following for the past 3-4 years. It's the Bremerton Dig, The Golden Tunnel. The Hole in Ground.

JustAtunnel.jpg

For those that don't know (or maybe don't care) the Bremerton Tunnel is a 850 foot tunnel, costing an estimated $28 million, that will be used ONLY to off load cars from the Bremerton ferry. This tunnel will be used about 12-14 times a day. This is a one way tunnel.

If every car on the ferry used this tunnel there would be about 120 cars a trip. But by my unscientific count only 30% of the cars will use it. That's about 35 cars a trip.

The fight is over we lost, and now we are starting to see the truth of the cost of The Bremerton Dig. Read on.

WHO WOULD HAVE THUNK IT

BigMoney.jpg

The Kitsap Sun on August 4, 2005 had this front page Headline "Ferry Tunnel Price Rises." Because of changes to the terminal, the project's estimated cost goes to $33 million from $28 million.

A few days before I read that the BIG FAT PIG TRANSPORTATION package had set aside $16.8 million for this Tunnel Project.

Now I'm a little slow with my math (it's age getting to me) but as I recall we always talked about $28 million. And oh by the way this money would go to someone else if we didn't use it. You could think of it as FREE MONEY.

ANYWAY back to the math. So congress gave us $16.8, subtract that from $28.0 and you get $11.2 left to MAKE UP. Hmmmmm, with MORE FREE MONEY I PRESUME.

So the Aug 4th paper says they figured wrong they now need $33.0 million but if you read the full article you'll see it could go up to $35.0 million.

My math says we'll be short by $18.2 million.

"We've been following it very closely," Norm Dicks said. "The state is doing a good job on this program. . ."

I'm wondering if this is going to be Bremerton's version of Boston's BIG DIG.

Guess we could build a half a$$'d Tunnel.

HERE'S A PLAN

ThePlan01.jpg

Let's say all the insurgency in Iraq ended right now. Does that mean we have won the WAR on Terror and we can all go home.

I don't think so. I never have bought into that "We are fighting them there so we don't have to fight them here." crap.

The fight against Terrorist didn't start with 9/11 for God's sake. Their have been Terrorist incidences since the beginning of time. I think Kerry was right for the most part it is a police/court problem. Look at the Bombing in England. Dose having a million man army prevent that kind of attack from happing. That's what Terrorist do . . . why haven't we learned that lesson.

One of the first things I would do is CLOSE THE DAMN BOARDERS in Iraq. I would have a heart to heart talk with each country that has boarders with Iraq. I would say politely but firmly that they need to watch their boarders or it will cost them. That's not a bad policy for our own boarders.

ARE YOU SURPRISED

JohnThune.jpg

The Base Closure commission has voted 8-1 to keep open Ellsworth Air Force Base. This is the South Dakota base that republican senator John Thune said he would keep it open, guess you might say he delivered.

Any politics going on here, he wonders. Naaaah.

THE BEST TAKE IS ALWAYS JON STEWART

This are clips from the Daily Show talking about Pat Robertson's comments from the other day.

The first on is Pat trying to pull a Rush Limbaugh by saying he never said what he said. As with Rush it seems to me that Pat has been in the TV business for 20-30 years and when you say something in front of the camera and it's rolling, well you get the idea. Watch this.

HOW EMBARRASSED MUST YOU BE

mpg01.jpg

Well we can start to see the price of gas drop now that the Transportation Department has increased the MPG on trucks and SUV's from the current 21.3 average to 23.0 average miles per gallon by 2011. THAT'S 2011 FOLKS.

Yep that's right 2011. How pathetic is that.

The car's that Henry Ford built over 25 years ago got 25 miles per gallon 2 miles better than the new 2011 standard. So much for the advance of technology.

Hell I can save that much by not using my air conditioner, drive with my windows rolled up or keep my speed around 55-60.

The so called Energy Bill that was recently passed and signed by the president does nothing to improve the MPG and any long term benefits are just that long term. But there is about 9 billion in tax breaks going to the gas companies.

I have an idea. Why not MAKE the automakers EARN that tax break. Do it with a sliding scale. For example for every 2-3 MPG increase you get so much. Now I'm not smart enough to know what that "so much" should be a percentage makes good sense.

The automaker would still have a certain minimum level that they all would need to achieve but the scale comes in when they exceed the minimum. The better they do the bigger the break.

These guys should be embarrassed by this lame announcement.

THE WORST PERSON IN THE WORLD

WorstAnnC.jpg

Ann Coulter.

That's really all you need to know. She and Rush could just take turns. Ann Coulter questions the courage of New Yorkers in the face of terrorism.

She says of terrorists, "it's far preferable to fight them in the streets of Baghdad than in the streets of New York (where the residents would immediately surrender)."

That's what Ann Coulter thinks of the cops and firemen of New York City, and of the family members of those lost on 9/11, and of the everyday people who refused to let the attacks keep them from going on with their lives.

Never mind the courage and character New Yorkers have demonstrated in the face of terror. People in the city tend to vote for people other than the ones Coulter supports, so she calls them cowards.

She and Pat Robertson make a fine pair.

BRETT'S EXCELLENT JOURNEY DAY 23

Harden-23.jpg

It almost sounds like Brett rode into a 1930 Depression Area town…hmmmmm is Brett caught up in a time warp Back To the Past. Read his post and you decide.

I'm sitting here in Hardin, MT at the library computer again. It's a miserable town, full of crime and boredom and laws. In my whole life I've never seen a sign that says "No Dogs Allowed in Park," but there's one every 25 feet bordering the park here. [Aren't you supposed to walk your dog in the park????]

Last night, while searching for a campsite, I saw police multiple times and plenty of joyriding kids racing through the quiet streets in their beat-up cars. It's amazing what poverty, too many bars, too many rules, and not enough wholesome pastimes will do to a town.

WHAT THE HELL ARE WE DOING IN IRAQ

billmaher0805.jpg

The Draft constitution has been submitted in Iraq with a 3 day extension to work on some sticking points. Sticking points. . . my god it's talking about women's rights. THEY HAVE NONE!!!

This is what over 1800 of our troops have died for. This is what over 20,000 of our troops came home with injuries for.

The White House said this is a quantum leap for Iraq. Jon Stewart was right when he said "Is there NOTHING that they can't put a happy face on".

NOW THIS IS A RELIGIOUS LEADER

PatRob01.jpg

Robertson, host of Christian Broadcasting Network's The 700 Club and founder of the Christian Coalition of America, called for the assassination of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.

Is this guy the CRAZIEST person in the country or what. He's a religious leader right.

From the August 22 broadcast of The 700 Club:

You know, I don't know about this doctrine of assassination, but if he thinks we're trying to assassinate him, I think that we really ought to go ahead and do it. It's a whole lot cheaper than starting a war. And I don't think any oil shipments will stop. But this man is a terrific danger and the United ... This is in our sphere of influence, so we can't let this happen. We have the Monroe Doctrine, we have other doctrines that we have announced. And without question, this is a dangerous enemy to our south, controlling a huge pool of oil, that could hurt us very badly. We have the ability to take him out, and I think the time has come that we exercise that ability. We don't need another $200 billion war to get rid of one, you know, strong-arm dictator. It's a whole lot easier to have some of the covert operatives do the job and then get it over with.

DO WE GET IT YET

BRETT'S EXCELLENT JOURNEY DAY 22

Brett hit the 1000 mile mark pedaling into Billings. On his web he said "Tonight I'll ride into the heart of eastern Montana, over the last stretch of rolling hills and onto the plateau of the Dakotas. It is miserably hot and without shade, I'm an ant under a magnifying glass. I will have to go back to riding early in the morning and later in the evening in order to make the mileage I've been hoping for."

Good progress. I'm not sure if I had 40 years back that I could that. You have to admire his effort.

You all might go to his site and give him some support. I've pledged at least $1.00 per day for his trip. I was going to do the $1.00 per mile until I figured out I couldn't afford that much. I'll try to improve on what I have pledged so far when the trip is over.

This is a first. Rush Limbaugh was awarded his second WORST PERSON IN THE WORLD award. As I talked about the other day he tried to lie his way out of admitting to what he had said. The man is nuts. . . it's on tape for god's sake.

THIS IS NOT WORKING

I think that as big as this country is we ought to be able to come up with some brain power to solve the problem we are having in Iraq. We can continue to go back and forth, calling each other names until we are blue in the face, but what will that accomplish.

BIG CHANGE COMING

Big Changes in Bankruptcy Law Coming in October 2005

BankOnB.jpg

If you're thinking of filing for bankruptcy, do it now. It will be much harder to qualify after October 17.

After eight years and three failed attempts, the credit card industry has finally got the bankruptcy law "reform" changes they've been lobbying for. Signed into law on April 20, 2005, most of the new law will take effect on October 17, 2005.

The new law, which marks the biggest change to bankruptcy law since 1978, PROHIBITS SOME PEOPLE FROM FILING FOR BANKRUPTCY ALTOGETHER. And for those who manage to qualify for bankruptcy, it makes it harder to come up with manageable repayment plans and it has fewer protections from collection efforts than the prior law.

HERE IS WHAT'S REALLY DISGUSTING ABOUT THIS

RUSTON, WA. Asarco has abandoned its promise to replace the soil in yards of more than a dozen homes contaminated with lead and arsenic from an old copper smelter, leaving behind heaps of tainted dirt.

Asarco, which was bought by the Mexican mining giant Grupo Mexico six years ago, FILED A PETITION FOR CHAPTER 11 BANKRUPTCY REORGANIZATION last week and since has said it will not resume yard cleanups.

HOW SPECIAL IS THIS

EPAright.jpg

( Who the HELL are they Protecting? )

Two years ago, the Bush administration allowed Grupo Mexico to spin off a profitable Asarco subsidiary, Southern Peru Copper Co.

In return, the company set up a $100 million fund to be used for cleanups at sites it owns in about 17 states. But the EPA estimates the cost of all those cleanups could be as high as $1 billion.

In its report the GAO said "EPA has done little to ensure that businesses comply with its existing financial assurance requirements."

Oh and by the way, unlike personal bankruptcy these guys are free and clear of this debt, nice huh.

THEY JUST SIT ON THE FRIDGE

BTK serial killer Dennis Rader gets life sentences on multiple counts of premeditated murder. Man it make you support the death penalty when you hear this creep talk. He is the true scum of the earth.

I didn't listen to all the people that spoke but this gal summed it all up pretty well.

The Headline I used is what she was saying about drawings her son made for his Grandma. So sad, so very, very sad.

AIR AMERICA

This is a post I put on the Radio Equalizer's BLOG yesterday afternoon. Brian Maloney runs the Blog. It seems that he and Michelle Malkin, another Blogger, have been trying like crazy to beat a dead horse to death (can you do that). They call it the Air America Scandal, but what it really is all about is an attack on Al Franken.

I think it was Brian that came across a little article in some small newspaper about Air America. From what I can tell (facts are not a hot commodity for this pair), anyway seems a girls/boys club invested/loaned/gave the manager/owner/investor of Air America a bunch of money $300/$400/$500/$600/$700/$800 well you get the idea. That's in thousands by the way. Then he was kicked out of Air America because he was a crook???

Long story short these two want every employee at Air America to go to jail for 100 years. They have been pounding on this for about 4 weeks and it really is fun to visit their Blog and read the comments.

Brian's Blog is here.
Michelle's Blog is here.

Open Letter to Brian Maloney AND Michelle Malkin:

You've milked this "AIR AMERICA SCANDAL" now for about 3 or 4 weeks.

Now your repeating some of these "SO CALLED CHARGES" because other BLOG'S have been recycling them and some how that gives credibility to them. But it's really funny that they have just taken what you said 3 weeks ago and bada-bing, bada-boom it must really be true cause I got it from the BLOG'S. It's that old trick that "If you tell a lie enough times pretty soon it'll be true."

Well if you REALLY want scandal let me offer you a few you might have missed what with your Air America work and Oh, let's not forget Cindy Sheehan huh Michelle. In the words of president Bush "It's Hard Work." but one that really needs your INVESTIGATIVE POWERS.

One of them is really important, (hint, hint first name starts with TOM).

The U.S. Attorney's Office has filed a secret lawsuit against Rep. Randy "Duke" Cunningham.

Washington lobbyist Jack Abramoff, an associate of several leading Republicans, was indicted by a federal grand jury Thursday on fraud and conspiracy charges arising from a deal to buy Florida casino boats in 2000.

Ohio Governor Bob Taft was found guilty and fined $4,000 for violating state law by not disclosing golf outings and other gifts, becoming the first governor in state history to be convicted of a crime. Could there be more??

Tom Delay it's all about Ethics - something he knows nothing about. More to follow.

ASARCO - Asarco's bankruptcy leaves in limbo cleanups around the country. The century-old smelting company is tied to pollution that could cost an estimated $1 billion to clean up, according to the EPA. A company spokeswoman contacted yesterday afternoon said she could not comment on issues in Washington state. - Let's see what you two TOP-NOTCH SLEUTHS can come up with on this Baby, I think you'll be quite surprised.

This will be on my BLOG tomorrow at www.thebscorner.com check it out.

PS: Michelle don't let your kids read any of your writings you've got a potty mouth.

Don't you like anything about America?

Just kidding. . . I figured I'd say it to you first before you all said it about me. I know how you all can be.

HOLD ON TIGHT

Now that's just a tad to close. I'm thinking this pilot might need just a little more landing practise.

WORLD WORST

Worldworst.jpg

On August 17, MSNBC host Keith Olbermann named nationally syndicated radio host Rush Limbaugh "today's worst person in the world" for saying on his August 15 radio show that "Cindy Sheehan is just Bill Burkett. Her story is nothing more than forged documents. There's nothing about it that's real."

Commenting on Limbaugh's remarks -- Olbermann said, "I guess she made up that dead-son-in-Iraq business! He [Limbaugh] also referred to her supporters as 'dope-smoking FM types.' I guess the painkillers wipe out your memory along with your ethics.

Rush Limbaugh, today's worst person in the world!"

Click here to see the video.

Here is the actual audio of what what was said. The first audio is Rush doing what he does best. . . tries to LIE his way out of what he said. After over 20 years in the RADIO business you might have thought that Old Rush would know all about audio recorders. (There is a longer verision of this here. I didn't want to waste my disk space with just more lies.)

Click to listen <----( This is what Rush want's you to believe he said a day or so ago. )

This is what Rush ACTUALLY said the day in question.

Click to listen <----( This is what Rush REALLY said. )

Did you hear Rush Limbaugh start that discussion with the words "THE MEDIA LOOKS AT HER". . . anywhere in that recording. NO because that is not what the Lying Liar said. He won the Worst Person In The World Award fair and square!

WHAT'S WRONG WITH THE RIGHT

cindys.jpg

Jon Stewart has a way of nailing the news of the day. Do you still wonder why so many of our young people say they get their news from the Daily Show.

A few things I've wondered for a long time and I think this Jon Stewart video points out what I mean.

If you listen to this Stewart bit you'll notice all these talking heads sing from the same songbook, from the same talking points. Is that list published somewhere so these right wing folks can get to it right away?

Another thing that this video shows in addition to the talking points is that the folks on the right resent the fact the Cindy Sheehan is getting help from various support groups like Move-On, Michael Moore and others. Yet they see no problem with all the groups on the right that supported the Schiavo's.

I also don't get how these right wing people say that protesting the war somehow equates to NOT SUPPORTING THE TROOPS. Or that it means you HATE AMERICA and the president.

They claim to have "Christian Values" and feel no shame in sliming this women.

You have to ask yourself what the hell does it all mean, here we are fighting for FREEDOM in Iraq and yet they want to deny Cindy that right here in our country and at the same time trash her every way they can.

GO FIGURE!!!

RIGHT AGAIN

hdean.jpg

Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean has new harsh criticisms of the U.S. mission in Iraq. Dean saying, quote "as of today, it looks like women will be worse off in Iraq than they were when Saddam Hussein was president of Iraq."

Republican National Committee Chairman Ken Mehlman called Dean's comments quote, "wild assertion." Mehlman says the comment demeans the hard work our servicemen and women have done in Iraq.

Well I don't know what Ken Mehlman's been drinking but he sure hasn't been following what has been going on in IRAQ with the group that is trying to come up with a constitution. It's not looking good for women, Dean is RIGHT once again.

BTW, ever notice how the republicans use the "SUPPORT THE TROOPS" tag even when it doesn't apply or make sense.

YOU CAN'T ALWAYS GET WHAT YOU WANT

ofactor.jpg

Tonight Bill O'Reilly was determined to prove that his portrayl of Cindy Sheehan as a "far left" radical intent on embarrassing President Bush was accurate. He devoted three segments to Cindy Sheehans destruction and became increasingly agitated when his guests failed to give him the answers he wanted. While talking to Joe Trippi, O'Reilly said that Sheehan had lied backing down when Trippi condemned the hate rhetoric. The more O'Reilly attacked Cindy Sheehan, the worse he looked himself.8/15/05

He then moved on the the ex-husband of a women he had on last week (see my post on 8/ ) hoping to get beter results, but it didn't work. Bill's final hope was with Joan Vennochi who he introduced as a classmate from Boston University.

Read the full story here at News Hounds. It's a great article.

O'Reilly sure seems to feel that he is always being pick on by the media and that he is just a guy that tells it like it is. . .as he want's his viewers to believe it is.

IT'S TO DAMN HOT HERE

BRETT'S EXCELLENT JOURNEY DAY 15

Brett hasn't posted for two days so I don't know where he is. I'm thinking that if it's in the 90's over here it's got to be at least that over there. We'll catch up when he does his next post.

Visit his site here. He has maps, info on how you can help. Background information and much more. He will be updating his site daily.

HOW HOT WAS IT

Man it must be the heat cause I'm doing my Daily Dose later and later. . .yea I know what your thinking "Hey Mick, maybe it's cause you haven't anything to say. Did you think about that?"

Well to be honest that could be it, but with two days of 90 or near 90 degree heat it sure makes me crazy and just want to do nothing.

THEY DID IT AGAIN

I watched Extreme Makeover Home Edition last night and just like several of their previous shows it brought tears to my eyes.

Sure I know that they tend to lay it on pretty heavy at times and sometimes it's down right stupid, but in the end it turns out ok.

Not to take away from last nights show or any of the past shows and certainly not to blame ABC or Extreme Makeover Home Edition, I was sadden to see the following article in the paper.

Los Angeles -- Five siblings who moved into a new dream home on the hit ABC television show Extreme Makeover: Home Edition are suing the network, the company that built the house, and the couple who took them in after their parents died.

The children, age 15 to 22, claim that after the show built a new nine-bedroom mansion for them to live in with Phil and Loki Leomiti, the Leomitis engaged in "an orchestrated campaign" to drive them away by insulting them and treating them poorly.

The children ultimately moved out of the Leomitis' home in Santa Fe Springs, a small city southeast of Los Angeles, and are living separately with friends.

Believing the house is theirs, the siblings filed a complaint alleging fraud and breach of contract.

I guess that's how it's done now days you sue the folks with the deep pockets even if it's not their problem. I'm hoping the judge will toss ABC and the builder out of this case.

It's hard to know from the article if the charges are true so I think this should go forward just to clear the air.

Happy 70th Birthday, Social Security

Seventy years ago today, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt signed the law that created the Social Security system, but this year's great debate over the program's future has all but left behind President Bush's goal of moving it in the private accounts area.

The system's solvency is the real issue and the president won't admit it.

REMEMBER IF IT AIN'T BROKE. . .DON'T FIX IT!!!

HOW DO THEY GET AWAY WITH THIS

Why do the republicans get away with say stuff that when you examine it just doesn't make sense. For example on Hardball the other day this lawyer for the republicans said "No where in the Constitution does it show a right to an abortion."

What does that mean? Does that mean that everything must be laid out or we can't do it???

I'm certain that we do things that are not SPECIFICALLY mentioned in the constitution but that doesn't mean we shouldn't or don't do them. How could people over 200 years ago know what is going on today except in a broad sense. I think they knew that and decided to just focus on the high points rather and on the details.

Unlike some folks today, back then they had and used their common sense.

ALL TALK

TedNugent.jpg

I saw Ted Nugent on Hardball I think it was. He's one of the Bush/WAR supporters. A neo-con/chicken hawk. He talks about how he supports the troops and president Bush. He's a NRA guy. At the end of the interview he does this sign thing and slutes the troops.

BUT DID YOU KNOW. . . HE DID NOT SERVE!!!

  • I take my wife everywhere.....but she keeps finding her way back.

  • We always hold hands. If I let go, she shops.
  • She has an electric blender, electric toaster and electric bread maker. She said "There are too many gadgets and no place to sit down!"So I bought her an electric chair.
  • My wife told me the car wasn't running well because there was water in the carburetor. I asked where the car was; she told me "In the lake."
  • She got a mud pack and looked great for two days. Then the mud fell off.
  • She ran after the garbage truck, yelling "Am I too late for the garbage" The driver said "No, jump in!"
  • Remember: Marriage is the number one cause of divorce.

Four years ago next month my brother Buz passed away. He wanted his ashes spread on Puget Sound in front of what was to be their retirement house. Marcia and Buz had worked on building this house for a number of years. Thankfully I was always to busy to give him a hand because I'm sure he wanted quality work. I'm not sure how much time they had lived in the house after it was finished, I'm guessing about 3 maybe 4 years. So at least they had a little time in it.

MOORE OR BUSH

Bill O'Reilly had Dolores Kesterson on his show the other night. She lost her son Erik Kesterson in the Iraq war.

They were talking about Cindy Sheehan, the mother of a fallen soldier who has been staging an anti-war vigil near President Bush's Texas ranch since Saturday.

I think O'Reilly thought that this mother would agree with what ever BS he put out. Oh was he surprised. She challenged him right from the start saying she didn't believe what he was saying about Cindy Sheehan.

Mr. O wanted to tie Cindy to Michael Moore as being his pawn. But Dolores came right back at him with both barrels blazing saying that the sweet Mr. O was putting words in Moore's mouth when O'Reilly said Michael Moore believes that we are a bad country, that we are an evil country.

O'Reilly wanted her to chose between Bush and Moore. . . her answer was beautiful, just not the answer he wanted.

DaytonWA-11.jpg

TIMES THAY ARE A CHANGING

  • Something's Happening Here
  • What it is is not exactly clear.
  • There's a man with a gun over there, telling me, I have to beware
  • - Buffalo Springfield

I said in the past that Iraq has all the ear marks of another Vietnam. Most people that support the WAR totally disagree with this idea mainly because of the make up of the enemy we are fighting in this war vs. Vietnam.

Well when I talk about this WAR as it relates to Vietnam I'm talking about the lies not the enemy. The lies that got us into this war and the lies that are keeping us there. The killing on all fronts is wrong.

I've felt for a long time that this country should have a draft. A mandatory draft. NO EXCEPTIONS. If your 4F you go in as a clerk or some other type service. No deferrals period.

That would make pulling that trigger a whole lot harder.

Next if we did go to war we would all need to chip in RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW to pay for this war. ALL PORK would be cut from road and energy bills. Until after the WAR was over and our troops came home. ALL PORK.

We need to do a better job of taking care of ALL our troops before they go off to war and as they come home.

We need to see ALL the coffins coming home. We are a strung country we saw that in the past. It is never easy but I also think that out of sight out of mind is true. We can not simply except that only the families of the dead soldier needs to morn.

We need a free press. One that will challenge the power. One that won't attend all the dinners and balls and other non related reporting functions just to be a part of the in crowd.

Some how the people in the middle of the road (where I think the majority of Americans are) needs to find their voice. I think most people want what is best for this country. I would like to see folks stop the name calling simply because I don't agree with them on every issue.

I want to stop the use of the flag as some sort of hammer on me because I don't agree with this war. I love my country as much as they do. I don't hate president Bush. I disagree with his policies on the war, social security, Medicare, energy and many other issues. But it is not ONLY him. There are plenty of democrats and republicans that I disagree with on some of these issues too.

I have a problem with the Unions and think the recent split in the AFL/CIO is a good thing. I just hope that they get back to basics. That's what is needed. I'd like to see corporations go back to the idea that a worker joins a company with the thought that it can be a career if they work hard. I was able to work 35 years for the Navy as a civilian. I don't think that will be the norm from now on.

So like the words from the old song "Something's Happening Here. . . What it is is not exactly clear." but I think this war, as did the Vietnam war, changed things in America in the 60's and 70's and so it is in the 21st century. . . slowly at first but it will happen just wait and see. It's the voices in the middle that will make it happen.

"Something's Happening Here."

STOP. . . STOP IT NOW !!!

KeithOlbermann.jpg

Having been a smoker for over 20 years I understand how hard it is to stop. In my case I like to take all the credit with just a little help from my friends, like GOD. It was only after a heart attack some 10 plus years ago that I was able to quit. But as they say whatever it takes.

With the passing of Peter Jennings the other day, Keith Olbermann ended his show with the following rant on why you need to stop smoking, check out the video. It'll make you think.

PRETTY GOOD JOKE

Thanks to All of You...

  • I must add my thanks to whoever sent me the one about rat crap in the glue on envelopes cause I now have to get a wet towel with every envelope that needs sealing.
  • Also, I scrub the top of every can I open for the same reason.
  • I want to thank you who have taken the time and trouble to send me your chain letters over the past 12 months. Thank you for making me feel safe, secure, blessed, and wealthy.
  • Because of your concern I no longer drink Coca Cola because it can remove toilet stains.
  • I no longer drink Pepsi or Dr Pepper since the people who make these products are atheists who refuse to put "Under God" on their cans.
  • I no longer use Saran wrap in the microwave because it causes cancer.
  • I no longer check the coin return on pay phones because I could be pricked with a needle infected with AIDS.
  • I no longer use cancer-causing deodorants even though I smell like a water buffalo on a hot day.
  • I no longer go to shopping malls because someone will drug me with a perfume sample and rob me.
  • I no longer receive packages from UPS or FedEx since they are actually Al Qaeda in disguise.
  • I no longer shop at Target since they are French and don't support our American troops or the Salvation Army.
  • I no longer answer the phone because someone will ask me to dial a number for which I will get a phone bill with calls to Jamaica, Uganda, Singapore, and Uzbekistan.
  • I no longer eat KFC because their chickens are actually horrible mutant freaks with no eyes or feathers.
  • I no longer have any sneakers -- but that will change once I receive my free replacement pair from Nike.
  • I no longer buy expensive cookies from Neiman Marcus since I now have their recipe.
  • I no longer worry about my soul because I have 363,214 angels looking out for me and St. Theresa's novena has granted my every wish.
  • Thanks to you, I have learned that God only answers my prayers if I forward an email to seven of my friends and make a wish within five minutes.
  • I no longer have any savings because I gave it to a sick girl who is about to die in the hospital (for the 1,387,258th time).
  • I no longer have any money at all, but that will change once I receive the $15,000 that Microsoft and AOL are sending me for participating in their special e-mail program.
  • Yes, I want to thank you so much for looking out for me that I will now return the favor! If you don't send this e-mail to at least 144,000 people in the next 70 minutes, a large dove with diarrhea will land on your head at 5:00 PM(EDT) this afternoon and the fleas from 12 camels will infest your back, causing you to grow a hairy hump. I know this will occur because it actually happened to a friend of my next door neighbor's ex-mother-in-law's second husband's cousin's beautician....Have a wonderful day.

A SAD DAY IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD

BRETT'S EXCELLENT JOURNEY DAY 8

tricities.jpg

i'm in tri-cities now. the ride today was ridiculously hot. i met a lot of nice people this week--last night a family even paid for my meal at a chinese restaurant and didn't tell me! when i asked for the check, the waitress told me it was free!

I'm at a friend's parents place now. Until it cools off I'll be riding in the early morning and in the evenings. This afternoon it was about 105 degrees and there isn't any shade at all. The only breeze comes from the semis that pass me by.

peace out~

OH I FORGOT

For the last 5 days I've published the list of the 100 people that are Screwing Up America according to Bernard Goldberg. Now I have to start reading the book so I can form my own opinion based on my understanding what he has to say.

Man I wanted to start read Harry Poter.

WHO WOULD HAVE THUNK IT

The Kitsap Sun yesterday had this front page Headline "Ferry Tunnel Price Rises. Because of changes to the terminal, the project's estimated cost goes to $33 million from $28 million."

The other day I read that the BIG FAT PIG TRANSPORTATION package had set aside $16.8 million for this Tunnel Project.

Now I'm a little slow with my math (it's age getting to me) but as I recall we always talked about $28 million. And oh by the way this money would go to someone else if we didn't use it. You could think of it as free money.

ANYWAY back to the math. So last week congress gave us $16.8, subtract that from $28.0 and you get $11.2 left to make up. Hmmmmm.

So today's paper says they figured wrong they now need $33.0 million but if you read the full article you'll see it could go up to $35.0 million.

NOVAK WALKS

carville0805.jpg

Yesterday on CNN's Inside Politics poor Mr. Novak decided to take a hike. This is the transcript leading up to Novak using the BULLSHIT word and walking out. They were talking about Katherine Harris.

CARVILLE: Yes. You know the two happiest people in America today about this decision, is Bill Nelson and Jay Leno. I mean --

HENRY: Bill Nelson the Democratic Senator.

CARVILLE: The Democratic Senator and Jay Leno. That -- I mean, they're going to go nuts over this. They're messing with my make-up, but you really don't know who it is. I mean, let's say this: She's going to be good for the humor circuit. She's going to be good for the speech circuit and she's good for a lot. And I think that Nelson -- I think, it's probably no secret that the White House wanted the speaker to run and I suspect that the Nelson people are, you know, feeling pretty good here today.

NOVAK: A couple of points here: The first place, don't be too sure she's going to lose. All the establishment's against her and I've seen these Republican -- anti-establishment candidates who do pretty well. Ronald Reagan, I guarantee you that the establishment wasn't for him. We just elected a senator from Oklahoma, Senator Tom Coburn, everybody in the establishment was against him. She might get elected -- So, wait. Just let me finish what I'm going to say, James. Please, I know you hate to hear me, but you have...

rnovak0805.jpg

CARVILLE: He's got to show these right wingers that he's got backbone. Show them you're tough.

NOVAK: Well, I think that's bullshit. And I hate that. Just let it go.

(Novak leaves set.) HENRY: OK. James, what do you think though, seriously about this Senate race, James, that the -- that basically the Katherine Harris and Bill Nelson, if they do square off, what do you think -- what will that mean for Bill Nelson? He's considered an endangered incumbent.

HENRY: Thanks, James Carville. And I'm sorry as well that Bob Novak obviously left the set a little early. I had told him in advance that we were going to ask him about the CIA leak case. He was not here for me to be able to ask him about that. Hopefully we'll be able to ask him about that in the future.

Carville and Henry didn't miss a beat, but I think Carville was trying very hard not to laugh. It seems strange that Novak would walk out over that little exchange, my guess is he didn't want to answer Ed Herny's questions about Rove.

HERE's the the funny version.

HERE's the full version.

Nope, I really don't see a pattern here to justify profiling, do you? So, to ensure we Americans never offend anyone, particularly fanatics intent on killing us, airport security screeners will no longer be allowed to profile certain people. They must conduct random searches of 80-year-old women, little kids, airline pilots with proper identification, secret agents who are members of the President's security detail, 85-year old Congressmen with metal hips, and Medal of Honor winning and former Governor Joe Foss, but leave Muslim Males between the ages 17 and 40 alone lest they be guilty of profiling.

Let's send this to as many people as we can so that the Gloria Allreds and other dunder-headed attorneys along with Federal Justices that want to thwart common sense, feel doubly ashamed of themselves -- if they have any such sense. As the writer of the award winning story "Forrest Gump" so aptly put it, "Stupid is as stupid does."

Come on people wake up!!! Keep this going. Pass it on to everyone in your address book. Our Country and our troops need our support.

And guess who just bombed London?

SOMETIMES WINNING ISN'T EVERYTHING

GOODJOBPAUL.jpggoodjobpaul.jpg

Last night they held an election in OHIO that got some national attention because one of the candidates was an IRAQ war vet that was running as a democrat and he is against the war even though he had served.

He wasn't expected to win in this very republican state and the district that he was running in was even more republican. Some predicted that Schmidt would win by 60-70 percent. As you can see it was much closer than that it was Schmidt 52% to Hackett 48%.

Good job for Paul Hackett it shows that honest talk can make a difference.

You know the republicans are worried because they had good old Rush do his hatchet job on a Iraq Vet just like they did John McCain and others.

In the final days of the campaign, Ms. Schmidt accused the Hackett campaign of misleading voters by claiming that he would be the first Iraq war veteran to serve in Congress. In fact, the Schmidt campaign said, Representative Mark Steven Kirk, Republican of Illinois, has been serving in the Iraq war as a Navy Reserve officer.

But in an interview, Mr. Kirk said he had not gone to Iraq for the military, and instead worked one weekend a month in an intelligence unit at the Pentagon. Mr. Hackett spent seven months in Iraq leading a civil affairs unit in Ramadi and Fallujah before returning to Ohio in March.

Here is what the CRACK HEAD draft dodger Rush said on his show about Paul Hackett.

IT'S HARD TO UNDERSTAND WHY THIS GUY IS SO POPULAR

RUSH: Clark in Houston, you're next on the EIB Network. Hello.

CALLER: Good afternoon, Rush. It's an absolute pleasure and honor to speak with you today.

RUSH: Thank you, sir.

CALLER: Well, as an active duty Navy lieutenant, I've had the opportunity to work side by side with many Marines, and I tell you if all this is true, this is about as inconsistent as you can get with the ideals that are upheld by the Marine Corps, and I'd like to hear from anyone that has served with this guy to see what kind of Marine he was.

RUSH: Well, that I don't know. The only thing I've heard is that he was in the -- well, let me find it. He was in the Civilian Affairs Unit, and this is a Washington Post story (it says here) from July 30th. "A lawyer and a major in the Marine reserves, Hackett volunteered last year to serve in Iraq and spent seven months there in the civilian affairs job, including service around Ramadi and Fallujah. He returned to Ohio in March, decided to jump into the race for Portman's seat, seeking to become the first Iraq war veteran elected to Congress." So he volunteered to serve, spent seven months in a civilian affairs job. What is that, since you're -- did you say you're a Marine?

CALLER: I'm in the Navy, sir, Navy lieutenant.

RUSH: Navy. What is a civilian affairs job? You tell me.

CALLER: Civilian affairs is just basically a public affairs job where they interact with the civilian authorities from a military perspective. It's a military liaison, if you will.

RUSH: Oh, it's a military liaison. Is it a combat position or not?

CALLER: Negative. It is not a combat position.

RUSH: Okay.

CALLER: I just can't get over how... You know, Marines from day one, whether reserves or active duty, are taught to uphold the ideals of honor and courage and commitment, and not to mention the way he was so disrespectful to someone who was very recently his commander-in-chief.

RUSH: You mean by calling him an SOB?

CALLER: Yes.

RUSH: Well, he's out now. He can do whatever he wants.

CALLER: "Once a Marine, always a Marine." Isn't that what they say? That doesn't mean all those things that you learned... Those things are supposed to stay with you and it doesn't seem like -- he either never had them in the first place or he's not being true and have any integrity like you've already mentioned.

RUSH: Okay, call him a staff puke if that's what you want, but civilian affairs, staff puke. Bottom line is he's running a fraudulent, deceptive campaign, and the Democrats are saying this is a bellwether election. We've got two instances of huge fraud being perpetrated here, and I'm bound and determined they're not going to get away with this, whether the guy wins or not, they're not going to get away with mis-portraying the results of this when the whole campaign has been one of total fraud and lying and deceit, fooling people.

A BIG NEWS DAY TODAY

BRETT'S EXCELLENT JOURNEY DAY 2

101a_eatonville.jpg

Well the 1st day is in the record book. This first day took Brett from Seattle to Eatonville a distance of about 40 miles. Check his WEB for his take of this first day.

Note: I turned the the map on it's side to save space.

CAN YOU REMEMBER

notmesucker.jpg rafpalmeiro.jpg

This is Rafael Palmeiro testifying before congress just 5 short months ago. At that time he said he NERVER used Steroids.

Fast forward 5 months and today he has been suspended for 10 games for . . . STEROIDS that were found when he took a drug test recently. Palmeiro released the following statement, which if you read it you will need to pick yourself up off the floor.

Did he really say "I never intentionally used steroids."

Reminds me of the bank robber that said to the judge "I did not intentionally rob that bank" just before the judge put him away for 20 years.

Baseball takes another hit.

THIS DOG NEEDS TO GO TO THE OLYMPICS

JakeJeff.jpg

With a stomach full of scrambled eggs, Jake dog-paddled his way into history, leaving most of the serious - and human - swimmers in his wake.

Organizers of the South End Rowing Club's 10th annual Alcatraz Invitational - a 1.2 mile swim from the infamous prison island to the San Francisco shoreline - say the 65-pound golden retriever is the first canine known to have made the crossing.

He was the only dog among more than 500 swimmers who lept into the chilly, choppy waters on Saturday, coming in 72nd overall out of 500 swimmers. His time was 41 minutes and 45 seconds.

The crowd cheered as the 4-year-old pooch made his way onto solid ground, shaking sprays of water and dodging a woman who tried to put a medal around his neck.

"It was colder and rougher than we thought it would be," said Jeff Pokonosky, Jake's owner and swim partner. "Jake amazed me. He was very focused. He started out really fast. I was trying to slow him down. He increased his pace to stay with the pack."

The pair live in San Diego and swim 4 miles a week and bodysurf together, Pokonosky said. And Jake always eats scrambled eggs before a big swim.

Bill Wygant, president of the South End Rowing Club, said he was more than happy to allow a dog into the race, a first for the more than 100-year-old group.

"This swim is about personal challenge," Wygant said. "Whether you are dog or human, it's whatever you can achieve that counts."

PRETTY GOOD JOKE

Claims are normally the most serious part of the insurance business but humor creeps in every now and then like these explanations received by various Prudential Insurance Company claim divisions:
  • While sitting in a tavern someone hit my nose from behind.
  • A light case of severe flu.
  • Sickness on account of a garter (goiter).
  • I was up a tree after a squirrel and a guy shot at me.
  • An airplane hit the house and came in.
  • Accidentally kicked in the stomach by a customary fooling around.
  • While dancing in the Navy someone stepped on my hand.
  • I broke my foot while I jumped from a 10-foot bank to get down in a ditch so I could get up a tree.
  • Put a tire patch on my Playtex girdle and it caused infection on the right thigh.
  • I dislocated my shoulder swatting a fly.

THE DAWN OF A NEW DAY

BRETT'S EXCELLENT JOURNEY

BrettKlaassen.jpg

My dictionary defines Journey like this:

jour·ney n. pl. jour·neys
   1. The act of traveling from one place to another; a trip.
   2. A process or course likened to traveling; a passage: the journey of life.

I mention this because of what I saw on KING 5 News last night. It was a piece about a kid, well a young man (he's 20) Brett Klaassen, that has decided to take a bike ride across the country and raise some money along the way.

Here is his plan from his WEB site.

ThePlan.jpg

As you can see there is a method in his madness. The one thing that is a little unusual in his effort is that he is doing it alone. No support team in the car behind him.

According to his Web site the total mileage of his excellent journey will be around 3500, consisting of 100 days of riding at 35 miles per day. Of course he'll probably be riding quite a bit more than that on some days. And on others he'll be resting his knees and talking to those who are interested!

The roads Brett will be taking will vary a bit depending on the conditions. He'll be stopping along the way to meet with people and spread the concept of Forward Motion. Most of his stops will be along the roadside, however. The stars will shine especially bright on those nights.

Brett Klaassen: Founder of Forward Motion.

BrettPic.jpg

Brett's a 20 year-old guy with a purpose. He's been riding bikes since he was four and hasn't changed much since. He's worked for two local bike shops and now currently works for REI. Between bike rides, you'll find him hiking, photographing, learning and playing guitar and keys. He also volunteers for the Acoustic Cafe when he has time and plays there almost every Friday!

He sails this ship alone. If you'd like to contribute, shoot over an email using our contact page!

Visit his site here. He has maps, info on how you can help. Background information and much more. He will be updating his site daily.

MyMap.jpg

I intend to follow his journey here as well with daily post on his travels. Maybe I can do vicariously through Brett something I had thought of doing back in 1998 when I retired but never did. . . and that was to take a trip through every state in the Union. I even bought a map and drew the path that I would take.

Since I still have the map I'll use it to track Brett's progress. As they say a journey begins with a single step in this case a single spin of the wheel. Well that spin starts today.

THE OHIO ELECTION

There is an interesting election going on in OHIO tomorrow. It's between a IRAQ vet democrate and a non vet republican. The election is to replace Rob Portman in the Second District of Ohio (map), which stretches along the Ohio River east of Cincinnati. (Portman resigned upon being confirmed as United States Trade Representative.)

Paul Lewis Hackett III is a trial lawyer from Ohio who on June 14, 2005, won the Democratic nomination for Congress to replace Rob Portman in the Second District of Ohio (map) and will face Republican nominee Jean Schmidt in the general election on August 2, 2005. Hackett would be the first veteran of the Iraq War in Congress if elected.

Jeannette M. "Jean" Schmidt is a former member of the Ohio House of Representatives who on June 14, 2005, won the Republican nomination for Congress to replace Rob Portman in the Second District of Ohio.

Because the district is overwhelmingly Republican the 57th most Republican in the nation by one reckoning and which last elected a Democrat to Congress in 1966 Schmidt was seen to have an advantage over the Democratic nominee, Indian Hill attorney and Iraq war veteran Paul Hackett, in the August 2 special election.

Hackett does not support the war while Schmidt does. It should be noted that Hackett said he would go back to Iraq.
