TUESDAY MORNING WITH MICK
Opps YOUR BIAS IS SHOWING
Almost every day I visit a number of BLOGS to see what folks have to say. Some are conservative leaning but most are liberal. The other day I went to The Radio Equalizer - Brian Maloney. He was a talk show host for KIRO radio a year or so ago.
I'm not going to publish his whole rant here click on the above link to read the full text of his comments. But I'll summarize his rant and add my own.
He's talking about Ted Koppel's decision to read the names of soldiers who were killed in the WAR in Iraq and Afghanistan again this year just as he did last year. He talks about the 'firestorm of controversy' that erupted last year.
I'm not going to address the Sinclair Broadcasting part of his rant because it is just so Hypocritical and TYPICAL of the right to suggest Nightline is biased and Sinclair is 'Fair and Balanced". What BULLSHIT.
This year a Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas radio station KLIF-AM is doing the same thing, which is fine. Maybe more stations need to do the same.
So what's the big deal Mick, Nightline is going to read the names of soldiers killed in Iraq and so is a radio station. Why are you going on and on? That's a good question and I' try to answer right now.
HERE'S THE PUNCH LINE: Maloney says "When the list is read on Monday evening's broadcast, will it be any more sincere than last year? What reason would we have to believe that?"
In his rant Brian suggests that lasts years reading of the names was done during the TV sweeps period to improve his ratings and that it was also done to help Kerry and other democrats get elected. What BS.
So what does Mr. Baloney say is his reason to show that Koppel is insincere compared to the radio stations name reading? IT'S PERSONAL. That's it...IT'S PERSONAL?
The radio shows host's son has just returned from Iraq, one of the other name readers sons just joined the US Special Forces and finally a LIBERAL talk show host was taking part as well, now we know that all adds up to total sincerity.
Ted Koppel can't support the troops and be doing this to honor the fallen. Because he's biased and liberal according to Mr. B. THAT'S RESERVED FOR THE CONSERVATIVES.
That is the same logic they use to say liberals HATE AMERICA, they HATE BUSH, they want Al Qaeda to win. That's why this is just such BULLSHIT.
In the end Baloney says 'This doesn't have to be a conservative-vs.-liberal dividing line. ' To which I say who is making it a "C vs. L" issue? Mr. B need only to look in the mirror to answer that question.
I nominate him for the DUMBEST BLOGGER OF THE YEAR AWARD.
THEY ARE ALL ATWITTER
Lynn Cheney suggested the Laura Bush run for president...now I love Laura Bush but she is alot smarter than that.
The talk shows are going nuts over this one.
Say what?????
President said Another Darnedest Thing
"Asked if the Iraqi insurgency was getting more difficult to defeat militarily, Bush answered with a classic Dubya-ism.
"No, I don't think so," he said, "I think they're being defeated. And that's why they continue to fight."

IS THIS THE PETER PRINCIPLE AT WORK
OH, NOW I GET IT
In today's paper I saw this little article that said "Two Army analysts whose work has been connected to a major intelligence shortcoming on Iraq have received awards for job performance over the last few years, according to officials."
"The two civilian analysts work at the Army's National Ground Intelligence Center - one of three U.S. agencies criticized by the presidential commission that probed U.S. intelligence on Iraq."
These are the guys who's work was cited as part of a key intelligence failure on Iraq -- the claim that aluminum tubes sought by the Baghdad government were most likely meant for nuclear weapons.
Don't forget that President Bush awarded the nation's highest civilian honor to three men central to his Iraq policy, saying they had played "pivotal roles in great events." He presented the Presidential Medal of Freedom to retired Gen. Tommy Franks, who oversaw combat in Afghanistan and the initial invasion of Iraq, former CIA Director George Tenet and former Iraq administrator L. Paul Bremer.
Remember these are the guys that oversaw the intelligence gathering, does "SLAM DUNK" ring a bell? and they were responsible for the planning of the WAR. Does anyone think the WAR was well thought out.
MORAL OF THE STORY: The more you screw up the higher the reward, go figure.
BIG MONEY GRAB

This is just one more reason people are mad as hell at our so called leaders. This citizen-led commission (supposedly independent) has purposed a whopping 40% pay increase for the Bremerton City Council. The recommendation will be discussed during the June 6th Commission meeting in the council conference room on the sixth floor of the Norm Dicks Government Center at 6 p.m. Be there.
The city council position is not designed to be a full time job nor a career and it seems to me that if people don't understand that going into this job you just have to question their ability to make tough decisions based on critical analysis.
A pay raise may be needed but what is not needed is this massive 40 percent raise.

THERE OWN WORST ENEMY
ON AIR MELTDOWN

Did you happen to see HARDBALL with Chris Matthews (5/27)? I thought he did a major meltdown.
His guest last night was Craig Crawford author of Attack The Messenger (soon to be released) and Alexandra Pelois author of Sneaking into the Flying Circus.
As usual they where talking politics, in this case politics and the media. As everyone that has ever watch HARDBALL knows that Chris is a load mouth type of guy and seems to enjoy talking over people almost yelling at them.
What started this melt down was when Alexandra said "Basically the media makes a caricature of someone, Kerry was arrogant, Bush was dumb."
Chris said "I MAKE THIS PRESIDENT LOOK DUMB? YOU DON'T WATCH THIS PROGRAM ALEXANDRA. THAT HAS NEVER BEEN THE CASE WITH ME" (whaaaaa, whaaaaa, whaaaa). WHY DID YOU SAY THAT?"
Then when she started to answer he kept interrupting her and talking over her as he so w...ants to do. (Honest to god I screamed at my TV to tell him to shut up and let her answer the damn question).
He went to a break and when they came back he was still 'melting' and pouting and whining. Chris had to come back and say how great he is and how hurt his feelings were by what Alexandra had said. He even went on to say this "Do you want to take that back". Now I'm 68 and I haven't said those words in the last 60 years "Whaaa, do you want to take that back...whaaaa." Is he NUTS.
In the end he hands the ball off to Craig Crawford by saying "Craig you get into a fight here cause I'm in a stupid fight here." Well yes you are in a stupid fight...ONE THAT YOU STARTED. I felt sorry for Craig but he handled it just fine.

TOM...TOM...TOM...
Man he can't keep his foot out of his mouth for more than a day. He says stupid stuff and then cries like a baby when it is used.
He of course can say anything he wants because he in congress, right. It is because he is in congress he needs to chose his words carefully and with great thought. It would help if he truly believed his words though and not be saying them to satisfy some special little group.

THE LOST GENERATION
FAMILY LOST FAMILY FOUND
PrimeTime Live, ABC, did a story last night that if you are a caring person will break your heart. The report was on the growing trend of older Americans stepping in to raise their grandchildren.
As a point of reference I went to the web site called The Cost of War ( Click Here )
to see how much we have spent in IRAQ since the start of the WAR. When you visit the COW site you can see what some of the services this kind of money can pay for in these various categories or services like PRE-SCHOOL, KIDS' HEALTH, PUBLIC EDUCATION, COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS, PUBLIC HOUSING, WORLD HUNGER, AIDS EPIDEMIC, and WORLD IMMUNIZATION.
The PrimeTime show first visited some of these families over four years ago and while Cynthia McFadden said at the start "What happens to the children left behind when their fathers and now their mothers are unable or unwilling to take care of them. It is a phenomenon sweeping the country hitting families of all races. In big cities and little towns. Children left to be raised by their grandmothers.
As I have said before on this BLOG some of these TV shows make me tear up and this show was one of them. These grandmothers are real heroes doing the best they can with little or no resources. Even the grandmother that didn't know how to hug her grandson was doing the best she could with little help and no training. Just as each and every soldier in IRAQ is a hero these women are heroes in a way that is seldom recognized.
The show followed several families in New Jersey and how they were coping with this problem. See this clip of the lead into the show for just a tiny sample of what the show covers.
I've Tivo'd the show so send me a message and I'll make you a CD of the show if you missed it.
Later on Nightline they had a very good discussion on what Bill Cosby has been speaking out about for the past couple of years. See my BLOG entry on 7/2/4.
I think how lucky I have been.
REPEAT AFTER ME

DOES ANYONE CARE
DO YOU WANT A REVOTE IN WASHINGTON STATE
Yesterday on the Dori Monson KIRO radio talk show he did a segment on the need for a revote in Washington State for governor. He was talking about the number of people that had voted that yes indeed they wanted a revote as shown on the www.KIROTV.com web survey.
I went to the KIROTV web site just a few minutes ago (it's now 8 pm). I was carious about his topic today on the re-vote for Washington governor survey they were running.
What caught my interest was the size of the vote and more importantly the balance (or lack of balance) Right now it's 75% to 23% and 1% not sure. I've never understood why people take the time to vote on something and then register a NOT SURE VOTE.
Anyway, I believe Dori said that this vote was not a "scientific" vote and I can report to you now that it is not even "SECURE". Man don't tell them republicans they'll go crazy.
I discovered that I can log into the site and vote. I can close my browser and log back into the site and vote again. I did this 7 times and each vote counted.
Now I know that some think there is some hanky-panky in the King County election. Well I can tell you that by using this survey as the basis of his show today he didn't do a very good job of fact-checking. For all I know there may be felons voting in this survey. I won't go as far as saying dead people voted here and I can't say for sure that the military can't vote. All charges that have been leveled by republicans in the past.
What I really find strange is the lopsidedness of this survey. You would think that the whole state would be abuzz about this revote thing. I can honestly say that since the November election NOT one person that I have come in contact with has ever said anything about a revote, not once. Isn't that strange given this vote count.
Think about it.
CRY BABIES
Ever wonder why guys like Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, Bill O'Reilly and all the other right wing Talk Show Hosts act so surprised and hurt (poor things) when people they have attacked so relentlessly are now starting to attack back.

The voice of Tony the Tiger died yesterday.
BORDERS ON TREASON...HUH?
Rep. Spencer Bachus, Alabama (R) wants HBO to pull Bill Maher program because what he said "BORDERS ON TREASON".
Well if that is what treason is all about it helps explain why Ann Coulters book called TREASON is a best seller in the "so called red states". These people can't be serious...can they?
LET'S WALK THROUGH THIS TOGETHER

The president and his right wing christen conservatives say they do not want to spend tax dollars on Stem Cell research. The president said he will veto any bill that has that in it. That would be his first veto ever.
Their logic is that this procedure "DESTROYS LIFE" and should be done only with private funds.
So the question is if it's wrong, if it's murder why do we fund any Stem Cell research even in the private sector.
Isn't murder...still murder regardless who pays the bill?
Craig Crawford on IMUS...talking about his plan for people that oppose Stem Cell Research.
If they are so against it and it leads to cures, if they then get sick with something that it could cure then they shouldn't except the cure.
BILL O'REILLY TALKING POINT MEMO
The self-destruction of Howard Dean: that is the subject of this evening's "Talking Points Memo".
The head of the Democrat National Committee (search) has made a fool of himself again, this time on yesterday's "Meet the Press." As he has done for years, Dean used personal attacks to smear his perceived enemies, including your humble correspondent. The display was simply sad.
As we've documented, Howard Dean is afraid to appear on "The Factor". While most powerful Democrats enjoy the forum, Dean is not up to it, preferring to take cheap shots from afar. He is a bitter and increasingly incoherent man, who is routinely humiliating his own party.
Dean's assertion yesterday that I had done damage to the families of 9/11 victims is simply bizarre. As everybody knows, "The Factor" was the leader in defining the 9/11 charity chaos and getting the money quickly to the families who needed it.
But facts are not something Howard Dean deals with. He's far more conversant with the personal attack.
And that's "The Memo
POOR BILL always misunderstood, nobody likes him. His memo was in reaction to Howard Deans appearance on Meet The Press where he said the following:
"Nor do I think Bill O'Reilly is in a position to abuse families of survivors of 9/11, given his own ethical shortcomings." ...Howard Dean
O'Reilly went on to say: "Dean's assertion yesterday that I had done damage to the families of 9/11 victims is simply bizarre."
What Mr. O forgot, NO what Mr. O didn't say was that Dean was talking about what happened on his show with one of his guests. One that he (Bill) didn't like what the guest was saying. It went down hill from there.
"Get out of my studio before I tear you to f***ing pieces!"

WHY I SCRATCH MY HEAD
HOW DO YOU MEASURE SUCCESS
On 60 Minutes the other night they did a thing on a Faith Based Program paid by your TAX dollar. This group was promoting Abstinence where teens pledge to not have sex until they get married.
This story is outrageous. The success rate for this stupid program is about 12% while the success rate for condoms is 86% . What is even worse is that the Abstinence leads to more unprotected sex which leads to a greater chance of aids or other illness.
During the program there was this exchange between Ed Bradley and Claude Allen (Bush's Domestic Policy Advisor) with one of poorest analogies ever made.
Ed: What's wrong with telling kids - look you should abstain from sex, but if you are going to be sexually active use a condom.
Claude: "If I were to say to that same group of teenagers, don't drink and drive but if you do drink and drive use your seat belt."
Is he NUTS??
You would absolutely want them to buckle up. You just don't compound a mistake with another mistake. What is it about drinking and driving that makes fastening my seat belt a bad idea.
I'm all for forgiveness, but come on let's not get crazy. They had a young couple, Amy and Rick that were about to take the pledge to be virgins until married. One slight problem is that Rick has had sex with someone else but not with Amy. He is what they call a second chance virgin. HOW SWEET IS THAT. On the other hand it's hard to tell what happens if you fall off this wagon.
If you think a 12% success rate is a good deal this is your program.
A SHINNING EXAMPLE

You may think it's just me and my LIBERAL VIEW of the world but I have to tell you the good folks on the right have a way of twisting something to suit their views. The following audio is a very good example.
This morning on the IMUS program one of his guests was Jay Severin - Conservative Radio Talk Show Host.
Listen to the audio here and come back and read on.
In his "Shinning example" Jay is talking about what the so called "LIBERAL BIAS" of the Main Stream Media used to call the Filibuster fight. He said their duty was to pick a neutral term like the Constitutional Option, which by the way would have been a more accurate characterization. But no they decide to make the fairest and most accurate thing to call it the nuclear option.
It's not a big deal but just a small little window into how the right twists things to suit their needs. The truth is the NUKE OPTION was first coined by
Drum roll... TRENT LOTT a REPUBLICAN.

The so called CONSTITUTION OPTION is a FINE TUNE that the REPUBLICANS came up with after a focus group said the NUKE option was too harsh.
So now you know the truth. It's not the MSM that came up with these names. To hear Jay S it was.

I'M READY FOR CABLE
LET THE SPIN BEGAIN

I can't wait for the cable TV Talk Show's tonight. I expect all of them and especially FOX (duh) to bash Howard Dean's appearance on Meet The Press this weekend, which by the way I think he did a great job.
I for one think the republicans do need to worry. Yes, I know their SPIN. Yes he has used some words that because WHO said them seem insensitive. But unlike many democrats he does seem to know what is needed to move the democrats forward.
In the mode of Harry Truman's 'The buck stopped here.' He is honest and truthful and he's mad as hell and not going to take it anymore. The below video is just one example of what he's talking about.
Dean points out something that seemed obvious to me for a very long time and yet it doesn't seem to matter in the mind of the general public. I'm not talking about just the dido-heads but the public as a whole. Listen to what he is saying and the point of the discussion. He is dead on and most thinking people know that when they listen to Rush Limbaugh, Bill O'Reilly and the cable Talk Shows.
What is absolutely amazing to me is that these guys can continue to say this BULLSHIT even after they have been caught in their lies. Check Media Matters and do a search on Rush or Bill to check out just a few of their lies.
I think the democrats made the right choice for party chairman.

SOMETINGS ARE IMPORTANT
WHAT A HORSE, WHAT A WIN
SUPPORT OUR SCHOOLS
I saw this in the CK REPORTER a local newspaper.
THANKS FOR VOTING NO
I would like to thank everyone who voted against the CFKSD levy.
This decision should show the district leaders that we are tired of their irresponsible fiscal spending and that, contrary to Chris Stokke's comment, a levy is not the right plan for the school district. It is high time that leaders in this county and state begin to realize that forcing taxpayers to reach deeper into their pockets and having to adjust their budgets is not the right plan.
In last year's reassessment of property values, many CK homes increased near or above 30 percent. This increase in revenues should be more than enough for the CKSD to operate and maintain their schools. Come the next ballot for a new levy in the CKSD, I hope everyone will again tell the district to be more responsible and not force taxpayers to pay for their failures.
R.D. Bremerton
My response to the letter submitted by R.D.
We bought our house in the CKSD some 30 years ago in part due to the schools in this area. We have always voted to support the CKSD, always.
Well now I'm retired. My kids went to Cottonwood Elementary, Fairview Jr High, and Olympic High all located in the Central District. I still vote for the CKSD.
Over the past 30 years I've painted my house a couple of times. I've put on a new roof. I've replaced the rugs, everyone of my appliances including the washer and dryer and even the hot water heater. I've also replaced 3-4 cars in that same time.
I didn't do all of this because of IRRESPONSIBLE FISCAL SPENDING. I did it because they were used, they got tired, they GOT OLD, just like our schools.
It makes me crazy when I hear people whining about how much they pay in taxes. They act like all this stuff should be free. It's the same with the gas tax. Doesn't anything ever ware out for these people. Did the schools and roads just appear one bright and sunny morning in their LA-LA LAND.

WEEKEND MADNESS

PLANES, TRAINS & AUTOMOBILES
Air lines in the tank, Amtrak a joke and Detroit hasn't a clue. As congress fiddles with the filibuster, judges, CAFTA, and other BULLSHIT the transportation system in this country is going down in flames. I've covered the plane problem in the past, today it's the automobile.
A Love Affair With S.U.V.'s Begins to Cool
For the first time in 14 years, the passenger car is actually taking sales back at the expense of S.U.V.'s and other trucks, according to an analysis of auto sales data. The renewed interest in cars over the first four months of the year, while modest, is a pause in what has been the trend in auto sales for the last decade and a half: the soaring growth of the sport utility vehicle as America's preferred family vehicle.
I have a small SUV but I didn't buy it because I was caught up in the hype but rather for more practical reasons. I had an 1988 Honda Accord until I bough my SUV in Jan 2001. I have a problem with my legs and getting into a low sitting car is hard, it's much easier to step up. If I could I would love to buy one of the Hybrds and I may still do that if they can make it work in the SUV.
The thing I find interesting about this article is that I don't think Detroit has prepared for this downturn even though the price of gas has been on the rise for the past several years. Just to much money in the SUV/Truck market I guess.
Veterans' Affairs report 'confirms worst fears'
I talked about this back on May 15, 2005. This report points up some of the problems.
Staffing shortages and an outdated system for assessing claims are among the reasons for wide differences in disability payments for veterans, the government said Thursday.
Claims examiners use 60-year-old guidelines to assess ailments; the guidelines don't include nonphysical conditions such as post-traumatic stress disorder that are now recognized, according to a report from the Veterans Affairs Department.

GOOD NEWS TODAY...ALMOST
SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT
I get lots of emails, newsletters and stories as well as browse the web and BLOGS. Sometimes I get "CYBER-OVERLOAD" which is really not hard to do today. So it's easy to overlook a great story. I don't have a clue as to if this story is true or not but it's still a great story.
Five Bucks Story Editor: By Chris Kratsch Joyce Schowalter Illinois, USA
When I was in college I was poor. So poor, in fact, that I often found myself out of food. One day I spent my last two dollars on four loaves of bread, and didn't know where my next meal would come from once those were gone.
I decided to call my mother. She had said she couldn't afford to send me anything the last time I spoke to her, but I thought perhaps her mother could spare twenty bucks.
There was a pay phone in a nearby campus building. My bread and I headed over there. I called my mother collect, but before I could explain that I wasn't asking her for money, she became very upset and hung up. I called my father to see if he could explain things to my mother. Then I noticed someone else waiting behind me for the phone.
This man was probably a teacher between classes. My father put me on hold to call my mother on the other line, and I leaned my forehead against the cool concrete brick wall. I could feel the frustration and hopelessness building up inside me.
The man spoke: "Other people have to use the phone, too, you know."
That was enough to put me over the edge. I turned to this stranger and yelled, "See this bag on the floor? That has all my food in it! I don't have a phone at home to call from! I'm sorry if your cell phone is broken, but whatever call you have to make is less important than my trying to come up with tomorrow's meal!"
I turned back to the wall and tried to choke back the tears brought on by my speaking my plight aloud. Very shortly, I realized that I shouldn't have taken my frustrations out on this person. My father came back to the phone, and I told him I'd call him back. Putting myself back together as well as I could, I hung up the phone.
"I'm sorry," I said quietly. "I shouldn't have done that. You can use the phone." I stepped back to sit in a window ledge where I could hide my very obvious emotional state, and cried.
I wasn't paying attention to the man anymore, but he must have finished his phone call quickly enough. His hand tapped my shoulder and I turned. He put a five dollar bill in my hand and said, "Give this to someone else when they need it." He walked away, neither asking for gratitude nor giving pity.
There could have been no better delivery, and no better gift! Five dollars could last me a week in those days. Somehow this man knew exactly what to say to allow both of us to go through the rest of the day with dignity.
That was many years ago, and I have repaid that gift a hundred fold by now, always delivering it with the same dignity that was afforded me.
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@NOW HERE IS SOMETHING YOU DON'T SEE EVERYDAY
For a long time I watched the Bill O'Reilly Show on FOXNEWS. I liked it because I found it entertaining and kinda liked his bashing his guests (sick huh).
But I soon learned that the more I watched the more I saw "THE SPIN" in the "NO SPIN ZONE" was his. In some cases they were down right "BULLSHIT" not just lies. You need to read the "ON BULLSHIT" book I talked about back on April 16, 2005 to understand the difference between BS and telling a lie.
This retraction of his is a bit surprising for a couple of reasons. First that he admitted it at all, he's boasted in the past that he hasn't had to retract one thing on his Factor Show. The other thing I found really remarkable was that he claims he didn't know that this "passing notes" story wasn't true. To me that is just not believable for a guy in his line of work. It just doesn't wash. It's really hard to believe he had not heard of Snopes.com
I knew this story wasn't true several years ago when I got an email talking about it and Jane Fonda and I did some research to find the truth...AND I'M NOT IN THE BUSINESS for Gods sake.
Good Old Bill needs to come clean on a few other little statements that he has made in the past.
For over 10 other stories he needs to retract click here.

Setting the record straight on Jane Fonda. Now, last night I told Dick Gillespie of Reason magazine that I was not willing to give Ms. Fonda a pass on the accusation she turned over notes from American POW's to the North Vietnamese during her trip to Hanoi.
A web site called Snopes.com has investigated and debunked that accusation. They say it's not true.
Well, we decided to research it. We spent the day doing it. And the indication is that Snopes is correct! The story is bogus. So at this point, lacking any definable evidence to the contrary, Jane Fonda did not turn over any POW notes to the Vietnamese.
We're happy to clarify the record. It would be ridiculous not to do so. All right. Way to go, Snopes.com.

WE WRITE LETTERS
ALL THE NEWS THAT'S FIT TO PRINT
I saw this in the Bremerton Sun yesterday. I decided to send in my reply but don't think it'll make it into the paper because they had published one I wrote earlier this month. See my reply after the below letter.
Where's the outrage against Newsweek?
To the Editor:The Newsweek scandal regarding the Queran has reinforced my perception of that magazine's bias against the military and its civilian chiefs. A "journalist" was permitted to publish false statements regarding military personnel abusing the Queran, and this made headlines around the world.
As of this writing, 15 people are dead. Newsweek then delayed printing a retraction, and defended their position that this was a responsible article of unimpeachable integrity. When finally forthcoming, the retraction was treated as a very minor story. Where is the public outrage against this behavior?
Dan Rather learned the hard way to ensure the truth of his assertions. Like Dan Rather, the "journalist" at Newsweek published his article without proof of the facts quoted. He should receive the same treatment as Dan Rather, and the editors that passed this garbage on to the public should be fired.
Until the news media of all types, print or electronic, whether conservative or liberal, deal only in the truth, they can't be trusted. Samuel Langhorn Clemens was right. There are "...lies, damned lies, and statistics."
The American public, left or right, liberal or conservative, deserves hard facts, not editorial opinion in disguise.
J. G. USN retired
YOU CAN'T BE SERIOUS
This is in reply to J. G. letter today.
Paragraph 1: You are dead wrong, these allegations have NOT been proven wrong. I don't think you really want to talk about "FALSE STATEMENTS" because it just might remind you on how we ended up in Iraq. We don't even want to talk about Social Security do we.
Paragraph 2: Your blaming Newsweek for the deaths…you can't be serious. You do know that these same Quran charges have been out there for almost TWO YEARS, don't you? This isn't breaking news.
Paragraph 3: Newsweek did what all news organizations do. Maybe the Pentagon might have something to say about that. Remember Gen Richard Myers on May 12th said "the protests in Jalalabad, at least, were more about local politics than anti-American sentiment stirred by the Newsweek report." Got it on tape.
Paragraph 4: Right on. You see we can agree but alas I'm afraid I'll continue to read, watch TV, listen to the radio and surf the net and make up my own mind without the help of the White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan, thank you very much.
Paragraph 5: Oh NUTS, I was with you until you added "in disguise", if I wanted that I'd watch FOXNEWS.
WHERE'S THE OUTRAGE AGAINST SOCIAL SECURITY
With all the talk about what Newsweek did or didn't do, should or shouldn't do the one thing that is true is that they admitted their mistake and published a retraction (which I don't think they needed to do).
Well what about the MISTAKES (I should say lies) about Social Security that the President has been spreading all around the country.
Well in the spirit of the Newsweek "BS" maybe the White House could do their own apology. This'll be hard as the president can't "REMEMBER A SINGLE MISTAKE" they have ever made.
Here is a GREAT outline that they could use, but don't hold your breath.
Social Security: Another Media Failure
By Mark Weisbrot
After it was established that the Bush administration's stated reasons for invading Iraq were false -- Iraq's alleged nuclear program, weapons of mass destruction, links to Al-Qaeda -- many journalists, editors, and producers felt that the U.S. media had not done its job during the march to war. The New York Times and Washington Post published articles criticizing their own reporting.
A similar but more candid note from the media -- broadcast, cable, and print -- is in order for their misreporting of President Bush's effort to change Social Security. Here is what an honest confession might look like:
"We apologize for having failed our listeners and readers in our reporting on Social Security. The extent of this failure can be clearly measured by the public's complete misunderstanding of the problem being discussed. A recent New York Times/CBS poll found that 68 percent of Americans under 44 think they won't even get a benefit from Social Security. Even according to President Bush's (Social Security Trustees') numbers, Social Security will always be able to pay a benefit that is higher than what retirees get today. This is after adjusting for inflation, and it is true even if we were to do nothing and allow the Social Security Trust Fund to run out of money.
Where did Americans get the idea that they would get nothing from Social Security? They got it from us, the same place they got the ideas that Iraq was close to producing nuclear weapons and was involved in the massacre of 9/11. One thing we did wrong was to report false or unsubstantiated allegations over and over, without countervailing facts. This makes it easier for politicians to pursue a "big lie" strategy -- to deliberately repeat false information until it is accepted as truth.
President Bush can say, as he did recently, "Without changes this young generation of workers will see a UFO before they see a Social Security check."
This should have the same credibility as the statement, "Elvis Presley is alive; I just talked to him yesterday."
Our second mistake was to leave out or downplay crucial facts. Few Americans know that according to the President's own numbers:
(1) Social Security is financially stronger than it has been throughout most of its 70-year history;
(2) the whole shortfall over the next 75 years is less than what we fixed in each one of the decades of the 50s, 60s, and 80s;
(3) fifty years from now, the average real wage will be over 70 percent higher than today (so workers won't be hurting if they have to pay a little bit more to Social Security);
(4) the year 2017 -- when Social Security payments are projected to exceed payroll tax revenue -- has absolutely nothing to do with Social Security's solvency.
We encouraged deception about the Social Security Trust Fund by describing the government bonds it holds as "I.O.U.s," and allowing politicians to pretend that defaulting on these bonds was a real possibility. We should have used the Congressional Budget Office's numbers in our reporting, since it is non-partisan; instead we generally reported numbers from the Social Security Trustees, who are partisan (four of six are Bush appointees, and a fifth is pro-privatization). The CBO numbers show Social Security to be financially solvent for the next 47 years. If just this one fact were included in every news report on the Social Security "problem," most people would surely see the whole debate for what it is: a farce.
There were exceptions to these reporting failures, but they were few and far between.
We hope you will forgive our sloppy, careless reporting on Social Security. At least this time, nobody was killed as a result."

SOMETHINGS HAPPENING HERE
WHAT'S THE REAL STORY

NEWSWEEK: "Based on what we know now, we are retracting our original story that an internal military investigation had uncovered Quran abuse at Guantanamo Bay," Whitaker said.
STATE DEPT: "It's appalling that this story got out there," Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said as she traveled home from Iraq.
It's appalling really that an article was unfounded to begin with. Richard Boucher
DEFENSE DEPT: "People lost their lives. People are dead," Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld said. "People need to be very careful about what they say, just as they need to be careful about what they do."
At a Pentagon press conference Thursday, Gen. Richard Myers, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, cited U.S. commanders as saying the protests in Jalalabad, at least, were more about local politics than anti-American sentiment stirred by the Newsweek report.
WHITE HOUSE: Earlier Monday, presidential spokesman Scott McClellan had criticized Newsweek's initial response to the incident, saying it was "puzzling." "It's puzzling that Newsweek admitted the facts were wrong...but then refused to publish a retraction.
ME: I don't know if this Quran abuse story is true or not, that may come out someday. I do know that the folks on the right are going crazy over this. They are saying the blood of 15 people is on the hands of Newsweek. I say WRONG. These radical Muslim terrorist are the ones that have blood on their hands. Since when is it ok to blame an article in a magazine and not the people pulling the trigger on a gun.
How crazy is the cable talk. Well on last nights Hannity and Colmes good old Sean Hannity even wants to blame John Kerry...what the hell is that all about?
How about Connie and Richard from State they were appalled because as they said the article was UNFOUNDED. Hmmmm unfounded, have we heard that before?
Ronnie at Defense said that people need to be careful about what they say and do. Now isn't that precious.
As I understand it this story was out there before this Newsweek article. As you can see Gen Myers said last week the riots had nothing to do with the story.
I find it funny that the Bush administration seems to be doing a full court press on this story. But ask yourself this. Did we find WMD's? Did anyone apologize for that BAD bit of information. You know the numbers on dead and injured so I won't repeat them here.
I think there is still more to come.

WHY DO WE NEED TO DEVIDE
AM I READING MORE INTO THIS THAN IS THERE

On Tucker Carlson Unfiltered Show 5/15/5 in his BACK PAGE segment he said in part this:
"We're willing to guess that many of you watching this show don't know many people in the military. That's one of those fault lines between Blue and Red America and it's too bad."
I'm struggling to understand what the hell he is saying here. I agree with his opening sentence that most Americans don't know someone in the military. There are some approximately 250 million in this country, the military represents only a small percentage of that number so it's not surprising that that would be the case.
It's the second sentence that I don't get when he says "THAT'S ONE OF THOSE FAULT LINES BETWEEN BLUE AND RED AMERICA." What is he saying? Only people from the so called RED states are in the military? BLUE state Americans are not in the military or even know someone in the military.
I don't get it.
I then got this reply back from the Staff.
Subject: Re: Ask Tucker: Question Submission
It's a demographic reality. Three, four generations ago, it was difficult to find anyone without some connection to the military, via family or friends.
But that's no longer the case. And if you look at the demographic data, you see that today's military hails predominantly ( although, as you suggest, not exclusively ) from the so-called "red states." This isn't a political statement, but an observation.
"Tucker Carlson: Unfiltered" Staff
To which I replied.
Well he sure fooled me. Wonder why it was EVEN necessary to suggest a divide. Aren't the Blue states Americans? His statement was VERY POLITICAL indeed. What you are saying now is just spin.
It's a volunteer army. I'd like to see a draft WITHOUT exceptions. I think it might make going after WMD's a little harder to sell. Especially as you say it's " Three, four generations ago, it was difficult to find anyone without some connection to the military, via family or friends. But that's no longer the case..." Makes pulling the trigger a lot easier if you don't know anyone in the military, wouldn't you agree?
What's wrong with saying everything but that "FAULT LINE" sentence. I spent eight years in the Coast Guard Reserve and think ALL Americans should defend their country...and I live in a so called Blue state.
This RED/BLUE state stuff is divisive to me. One thing for sure the service man they just buried this week from Washington State is just as dead as the ones from the RED states.

Two ninety year old men, Moe and Sam, have been friends all their lives. It seems that Sam is dying of cancer, and Moe comes to visit him every day."Sam," says Moe, "You know how we have both loved baseball all our lives, and how we played minor league ball together for so many years.
Sam, you have to do me one favor. When you get to Heaven, and I know you will go to Heaven, somehow you've got to let me know if there's baseball in Heaven."
Sam looks up at Moe from his death bed, and says, "Moe, you've been my best friend many years. This favor, if it is all possible, I'll do it for you."
Shortly after that, Sam passes on.
It is midnight a couple of nights later. Moe is sound asleep when he is awakened by a blinding flash of white light and a voice calls out to him, "Moe.... Moe...."
"Who is it?" says Moe sitting up suddenly. "Who is it?"
"Moe, it's me, Sam."
"Come on. You're not Sam. Sam just died."
"I'm telling you," insists the voice. "It's me, Sam!"
"Sam? Is that you? Where are you?"
"I'm in heaven," says Sam, "and I've got to tell you, I've got really good news and a little bad news." "So, tell me the good news first," says Moe.
"The good news," says Sam "is that there is baseball in heaven. Better yet, all our old buddies who've gone before us are there. Better yet, we're all young men again. Better yet, it's always spring time and it never rains or snows. And best of all, we can play baseball all we want, and we never get tired!"
"Really?" says Moe, "That is fantastic, wonderful beyond my wildest dreams, but what's the bad news?"

I CAN ONLY ASK WHY
WE NEED A MOON SHOT ON GAS

Looking at these two charts you have to wonder what it is about congress that makes them blind to this solution. Increasing the MPG on cars is something we have had 30 to work on and for "SOME REASON" it is more important to address issues that are years down the road. That's congress that is sitting on it's hands, but Americans have been setting right beside them voting them in again and again over those same 30 years.
If we can save that much oil by getting to 36 miles per gallon imagine what getting to 50 or higher could do. A mix of electric/gas would help even more. Guess what congress is doing.
SUPPORT THE TROOPS MY ASS

Back on April 13, 2005 I did a rant on the fact that Patty Murray had a healthcare amendment that was voted down. Here is part of what I said:
The republicans say they SUPPORT THE TROOPS, but when it comes to health care and insurance they go missing. On 4/12/5 United States Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) offered her amendment to the $80 billion supplemental funding bill for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The Murray Amendment would provide $2 billion in funding for a critical cost of war -- healthcare for America's veterans, including those returning home from Operations Enduring and Iraqi Freedom.
The amendment went down to defeat by a vote of 54-46 WITH ALL BUT ONE REPUBLICAN MEMBER OF THE SENATE VOTING AGAINST THE VETERANS' FUNDING. They talk the talk but don't walk the walk. What damn hypocrites these republicans are.
This past Friday on NOW, PBS they did a piece on Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. We've all heard about PTSD before, just remember the Vets coming back from Viet Nam and the first Gulf War. Well it's back now and for some reason the SUPPORT THE TROOPS CREW can't find the money to help our Vets coming back from IRAQ.
Yea but just remember I have one of those yellow magnetic Support Our Troops stickers on the back of my SUV. Go figure.
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
With hundreds of thousands of soldiers having served in Iraq, conservative estimates indicate that 1 in 6 are returning from combat suffering from major depression, generalized anxiety, or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), which can be as crippling as any physical wound. NOW investigates if the Department of Veterans' Affairs (VA) is equipped to treat these soldiers who have risked their lives for their nation. Can the VA deal with this influx of new cases while meeting the needs of current veterans?
1.What is PTSD?/font>
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, or PTSD, is a psychiatric disorder that can occur following the experience or witnessing of life-threatening events such as military combat, natural disasters, terrorist incidents, serious accidents, abuse (sexual, physical, emotional, ritual), and violent personal assaults like rape. People who suffer from PTSD often relive the experience through nightmares and flashbacks, have difficulty sleeping, and feel detached or estranged, and these symptoms can be severe enough and last long enough to significantly impair the person's daily life.
PTSD is marked by clear biological changes as well as psychological symptoms. PTSD is complicated by the fact that it frequently occurs in conjunction with related disorders such as depression, substance abuse, problems of memory and cognition, and other problems of physical and mental health. The disorder is also associated with impairment of the person's ability to function in social or family life, including occupational instability, marital problems and divorces, family discord, and difficulties in parenting.
2.What treatments are available for PTSD?/font>
Elements common to many treatment modalities for PTSD include education, exposure, exploration of feelings and beliefs, and coping skills training. Additionally, the most common treatment modalities include cognitive-behavioral treatment, pharmacotherapy, EMDR, group treatment, and psychodynamic treatment.

I HAVE ISSUES, DO YOU?
HERE WE GO AGAIN

Back on May 1st I talked about Polaroid, the camera that took the instant picture before the digital camera and how they ran into some financial problems and were forced into Bankruptcy.
Pension plans are often a big chunk of the corporate liabilities that are slashed or extinguished under bankruptcies such as Polaroid, United Airlines, US Airways, Enron and its predecessor companies.
Companies such as Polaroid, which couldn't pay its bills in 2001, often can, under bankruptcy court supervision, renegotiate debts with creditors while shareholders are wiped out and pension obligations to retirees washed out.
United Airlines, which is operating in bankruptcy protection, received court permission yesterday to terminate its four employee pension plans, setting off the largest pension default in the three decades that the government has guaranteed pensions.
The ruling releases United, a unit of the UAL Corporation, from $3.2 billion in pension obligations over the next five years. The federal agency that guarantees pensions, the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation, will assume responsibility for the plans, which cover about 134,000 people. Some retirees could see benefits drop by as much as 50 percent.
I sure as hell don't understand how these plans are set up. There doesn't seem to be any savings plan built into them and Bankruptcy seems to be an easy out.
I guess as long as they have the Government (read that to mean YOU and I) they really don't have to address the problem.

A Baptist preacher accused of running out nine congregants who disagreed with his Republican politics resigned Tuesday, two days after calling the issue "a great misunderstanding."
Speaking from the pulpit during a meeting at East Waynesville Baptist Church, the Rev. Chan Chandler told church members that it would "cause more hurt for me and my family" if he stayed.
"I am resigning with gratitude in my heart for all of you, particularly those of you who love me and my family," Chandler said, adding that the dispute was rooted in his strong feelings about abortion.
NO, it was because he crossed the line and he knows it. You don't tell someone HOW THEY SHOULD VOTE. It was right that he resigned. It's sad he couldn't face up to the truth.
LAST YEAR THE GOOD REV. SAID: "The question then comes in the Baptist Church, 'How do I vote?' Let me just say this right now, if you vote for John Kerry this year, you need to repent or resign..."
Pastor Chan Chandler...
I do worry about the problem of Church and State. Some of these folks just go off the deep end. First it's about how you vote than what?

Lilac's are my favorite flower. I don't know why I like this bush and it's flower. When it does bloom it keeps it's flowers for just a few days. It could just be the smell I really don't know.
This little guy I planted about four years ago, they aren't very tall yet maybe five feet. I'm not sure how long it takes to grow to full height. A couple years ago when Sweet (that's her with Buddy in the back ground). Sweet's a Golden and Bud is a mix. Both are my pals. Anyway a couple years ago Sweet was doing some yard work and decided that my Lilac bushes needed trimming. She did a good job I really thought that they wouldn't make it, but then did. Actually they came back bigger and better than before.
So it's May and now it's time for these guys to bloom...and I can't wait.

JOBS THAT AMERICANS DON'T WANT
Lou Dobbs has been doing a series called Broken Boarders. Very often some of his guests will site the worn out phrase that these illegal aliens are ONLY doing jobs that Americans won't do.
Well look at this chart and ask yourself if you could live on that kind of money.
I never worked where I needed to belong to a union but I'm thinking if this chart is an example what might happen if all unions went out of business the average American is in a whole lot of trouble. The AIR-AMERICA radio show with Al Franken is broadcasting from Seattle today. Tune in to am 1090 to listen.
Stephen Colbert, who plays a phony correspondent on the fake-news program "The Daily Show," is getting a real promotion. Comedy Central said yesterday that it was giving Mr. Colbert his own show: a half-hour that is expected to follow "The Daily Show" on weeknights and will lampoon those cable-news shows that are dominated by the personality and sensibility of a single host. Think, he said, of Bill O'Reilly and Chris Matthews and Sean Hannity. Where "The Daily Show" and its host, Jon Stewart, generally spoof the headlines of the day (and the anchors and reporters who deliver them), Mr. Colbert's program will send up those hosts who have become household names doing interviews and offering analyses each night on the 24-hour cable news channels. The program, which is expected to begin appearing on Comedy Central as soon as early fall, is being produced by Mr. Stewart's production company, Busboy Productions. What makes these TALKING HEADS on TV think they have anything worth while to say or listen to? What makes then such experts in almost every subject?? Amid reports that the Army withheld information and destroyed evidence related to the death in Afghanistan of former Army Ranger and Arizona Cardinals football player Pat Tillman, MSNBC host-to-be Tucker Carlson said: "I doubt anybody holds it against the Pentagon for not releasing that." In fact, both Tillman's family and members of Congress have expressed concern about the military's slow release of information regarding Tillman's death. Then there was Good Old Joe with this. Joe Scarborough , MSNBC's congressman-turned-TV-guy, pitched a hissy fit about Arnold "The Guv" Schwarzenegger on his show: 'The Guv has been in so much trouble lately' he said on his April 25 show. "He's got sagging poll numbers. He's got political groups criticizing his every move. And now the governator is making all his enemies' job easier. According to the London Evening Standard, Arnold recently went on Howard Stern's radio show and offered his theory on how to end premenstrual syndrome, saying -- quote -- 'If we get rid of the moon, womens, whose menstrual cycles are governed by the moon, will not get PMS. They will stop bitching and whining.'
"Hey, Governor," Scarborough continued, "way to make 50 percent of California's voting population turn frigid towards you. I don't know how it works in Austria, but let me tell you something, friend, jokes about such matters -- not laughing subjects to women in America." Great point, Joe! Except -- not to throw stones here -- Schwarzenegger never said those things. Scarborough (and apparently the London Daily Mail, not the Evening Standard) got duped. Howard Stern apparently has a Schwarzenegger impersonator on his show regularly, and he was the one rat-a-tat-tatting on about the dreaded PMS. "I just bought a book on levitation, and I can't put it down." Our mother is the sweetest and
Most delicate of all.
She knows more of paradise
Than angels can recall. She's not only beautiful
But passionately young,
Playful as a kid, yet wise
As one who has lived long. Her love is like the rush of life,
A bubbling, laughing spring
That runs through all like liquid light
And makes the mountains sing. And makes the meadows turn to flower
And trees to choicest fruit.
She is at once the field and bower
In which our hearts take root. She is at once the sea and shore,
Our freedom and our past.
With her we launch our daring ships
Yet keep the things that last. ~Nick Gordon~ I happened to be in my car Friday morning driving to my doctor's appointment, it was about 8:30 am. I switched to KVI which I never listen to but for some reason I needed a good laugh. The subject was "Can a Gay republican get elected". When I tuned in they had somehow managed to bring Bill Clinton into the discussion. I swear these folks just won't get over Bill. As to the question at hand I think the answer was that an OPEN gay would not be elected if ONLY Republicans voted. So it makes me wonder if your gay why would you become a republican, a decision you have a CHOICE IN MAKING while being gay, as I understand it you don't. It doesn't make sense. This discussion came about as a result of the problem the Mayor of Spokane now finds himself in. I don't know about the molestation issue, that'll come out later in court. But on the issue as to if he was put into a compromising position I think he needs only to look in the mirror for him to answer that question. Here in Kitsap County a few years ago we had a County Commissioner resign after it was found out that he was looking and XXX web sites ...on government computers and time. Should he resign. You decide. The Hannity and Colmes show had the "First Interview with the Schindler Family" on their show last night. The whole family was there the father Bob, mother Mary, brother Bobby, and sister Suzanne. They rehashed all the old stories and charges that they had made during that vigil a few moths ago. With Bobby adding one more "Michael has disobeyed court orders throughout this ordeal and continues to do so today." Hannity maybe the most exploitive person in America. He loves getting into these NON stories. His followers just seem to eat it up. To prove that just check his ratings. He brought up the UNPROVEN charges about the cause of Terri's collapse. They listed off all the broken bones that Terri had, my God it sounds like she fell off the 10 th floor of a building. Funny thing is, they said they didn't know about these broken bones until a couple years ago (2002 I think Bobby said), yet they were discovered the first year after Terri collapsed. The two families lived together from the year Terri collapsed in Feb 90, until May 1992. This scan was done during the first year after the collapse when they were all friends and working together. Isn't that strange they knew nothing about it until years later...hmmmm. Hannity added that he had interviewed ALL THESE NURSES (these are the ones that it's been shown HAD NO credibility and their testimony was not admitted as evidence) Hannity brought up the story of the fire fighter that came back after not talking for over 9-10 years after he was injured in a fire fighting accident . Wouldn't you know that they used the fire fighters recovery as proof that it could happen to Terri. These are shallow, hateful people. They seemed to look at each other as they talked to make sure they covered all the talking point. I find it funny that the night before O'Reilly did a segment on ABC's Primetime Live show on the FOX Show American Idol. Saying that it was a FIVE MINUTE STORY and done for RATINGS...well duh!!! Wonder what he thinks about the Hannity show... A SHORT TIME LINE FROM THE ABSTRACT APPEAL WEB SITE The facts of this case are terribly sad, but they are not hard to understand. There's really nothing to be confused about, and as best I can tell, nothing's been overlooked by anyone. Terri's situation has arguably received more judicial attention, more medical attention, more executive attention, and more "due process," than any other guardianship case in history. Terri's family has had the benefit of excellent legal representation as well as the Governor's own top-notch attorneys, all of whom have scoured the case for ways to assist the effort to keep Terri's feeding tube in place. The significance of the medical malpractice lawsuit can be seen in a few ways. A jury agreed that bulimia caused Terri's collapse. The defendants were her doctors -- one might think that they, of all people, would have been able to show that Terri had been beaten or strangled if that was what had occurred. Also, to believe that Michael caused Terri's collapse by beating her is to believe that Michael initiated a lawsuit against someone else for causing her collapse, opening the whole matter to serious inquiry and greatly increasing the risk that someone would discover his role. Finally, I am not aware that anyone -- not the paramedics, doctors, nurses, family members, friends, or anyone else -- who saw Terri in the hours, weeks, and months after her collapse ever suggested at the time that Terri had been beaten or strangled. DOBBS: Are you surprised when you focus on the two deficits we just talked about, the trade deficit, and the budget deficit? The budget deficit is 3.6 percent of our GDP. The trade deficit is reaching just almost 6 percent of GDP. And the president is talking about reforming Social Security. Does that surprise you? BUFFETT: Well, it's an interesting idea that a deficit of $100 billion a year, something, 20 years out, seems to terrify the administration. But the $400 plus billion dollars deficit currently does nothing but draw yawns. I mean the idea that this terrible specter room looms over us 20 years out which is a small fraction of the deficit we happily run now seems kind of interesting to me. DOBBS: In point of fact, the Congressional Budget Office which is considered to be the bipartisan objective standard of such things. And its research suggests that that deficit in Social Security would be only .4 percent of our GDP over 75 years as compared to the other large deficits percentages that associated with trade in the budget deficit. Do you have -- we're talking about fixing the fixes we're in, a quick answer for Social Security? BUFFETT: I think -- I personally would increase the taxable base above the present 90,000. I pay very little in the way of Social Security taxes because I make a lot more than 90,000. And the people in my office pay the full tax. I would -- we're already edging up the retirement age a bit. And I would means test -- I get a check for $1700 or $1900 or something every month. I'm 74. And I cash it. But I'll eat without it. DOBBS: You will eat without it. So will literally more than a million other Americans, as well. Means testing, the idea of raising taxes, the payroll tax. In 1983, Alan Greenspan, the fed chairman, he had a very simple idea. Raise taxes, that's what you're saying here. BUFFETT: Sure. But I wouldn't raise the 12 point and a fraction, I would raise the base. From above $90,000. DOBBS: That's a progressive idea. In other words, the rich people would pay more? BUFFETT: Yeah. The rich people are doing so well in this country. I mean, we never had it so good. DOBBS: What a radical idea. BUFFETT: It's class warfare, my class is winning, but they shouldn't be. "Please may I assure you that my running away had nothing to do with cold feet nor was it ever about leaving John," wrote Wilbanks, in a statement read by the Rev. Thomas Smiley of Lakewood Baptist Church in Gainesville, Wilbanks' hometown. Unlike this apology in which I do have cold feet. No guts and really don't mean it. "I'M JUST SO THANKFUL I DON'T HAVE TO READ THIS BULLSHIT!!!" Answer to the question: WHEN IT'S BULLSHIT Ichiro is the shining star for the M's. He brings that quite dignity to the game just as Edgar Martinez did for so many years before he retired last year. The catch that Ichiro made the other night was something to see. It demonstrated his athletic ability and his skill at the game of baseball and his ability to stay focused and to keep his eye on the ball. Watch this short video it is amazing. Well it seems like good old Norm Dicks got caught with his hand in the cookie jar. All this talk about Tom Delay caused some soul searching by other members of congress to check their records. In Dicks case he corrected the record only after it was brought to his attention by a reporter. "I made a mistake, and corrected it as soon as I figured it out," said Dicks. Well Norm has been in office for more than a day or two and excuse me if I don't feel bad for him. For god sakes if he can't figure this out himself without the aid of a reporter then maybe it's time for him to retire. It seems to me if these meetings and trips are that important...then they should pay for it out of their OWN budget and not some lobbyist. PERIOD, END OF SUBJECT. The state of Texas, birthplace of sexy cheerleading, continues its efforts to ban it: Yesterday, a bill passed the House and now it moves on to the Senate. Its sponsor, Democrat Al Edwards, thinks unprotected cheerleading leads to "young girls being pregnant in middle and high schools, dropping out of school, having babies, and contracting AIDS and herpes." So in a way, a law against suggestive pom-pom twirling is probably a pretty fair compromise, because if Edwards finds out it's actually sex that leads to all those things, who knows what legislation he'll try to enact? I find it funny that they're making so much out of the capture of this al-Qaida guy. Right hand man to Old Bin they say. But did you see WHERE he was captured…interesting huh it was Pakistan NOT Iraq. U.S. officials described the arrest as the greatest blow to al-Qaida in more than two years though al-Libbi is not on the FBI's list of most-wanted terrorists. Al-Libbi is a confidant of bin Laden and was behind only Egyptian Ayman al-Zawahri and the al-Qaida chief himself in the terror organization's hierarchy, they said. Al-Libbi was also Pakistan's most-wanted man, the main suspect behind two 2003 assassination attempts against President Gen. Pervez Musharraf and is likely to face the death penalty in Pakistan if convicted. If all that is true just wonder why we went into Iraq. Imagine what we could have found if we had 150,000 troops in Pakistan and not in Iraq...can you say bin Laden. PRETTY GOOD POEM
I got this poem as an email. You know the kind that tells you to pass it on to 1,000 of your closest friends and the Cancer Society will send a million dollars to the dying person. I didn't pass it on but I found that I liked the poem and so I thought I'd put it on my BLOG and share it anyway. President Bush has made overhauling Social Security a key part of his second-term agenda and has spent weeks on the road discussing the subject, but a new CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll found that just over a third of respondents approve of his handling of the issue. NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - The Fed raised a key short-term rate a quarter of a percentage point Tuesday, a move widely expected on Wall Street, and the eighth straight increase as the central bank tries to fight off inflation. Ahmed Chalabi, a onetime Pentagon ally in Iraq, was named a deputy premier and acting energy minister when a partial cabinet list was approved on April 28 by 180 legislators in the 275-seat Assembly. Chalabi, who is 60 and has no previous experience in oil, replaces oil minister Thamir Ghadhban, a veteran of Iraq's oil industry who helped boost oil production to about 1.9 million barrels a day. The total is still about 25 percent lower than levels in early 2003, before the U.S.-led invasion. It's good that he was put in charge of the Oil Ministry a field he has no experience, but I think it'll put him real close to BIG MONEY...wonder how that works for him. A program that has been working just fine for over 70 years and now the republicans are trying to tell the kids today that Social Security won't be there for them. ARE THEY NUTS. Today on MSNBC Coast To Coast talk show they had Max Richtman from AARP and Raj Bhakta formerly from the TV show The Apprentice. They were talking about the presidents Social Security plan. As this debate went on it was painfully clear that this Raj guy was talking out of his A**. He was not making any sense, just repeating the lies and Bullshit about how BROKE Social Security is today and into the future. He was trying to make the case just how great investing in the stock market was. He obviously hasn't checked the market in the last three months. In addition to being a complete ass he is RUDE, talking over Mr. Richtman so he couldn't be heard. If you watch The Apprentice you can once again understand why Trump FIRED Raj Bhakta. His appearance on the Coast To Coast show today shows that Trump was right. This guy doesn't know the difference between truth and fiction. Man I just can't figure out these so called Evangelical Christian Leaders like Dr. Dobson, Jerry Falwell and Pat Robinson. On 9/13/2001 Jerry Falwell said that 9/11 was in essence provoked by those with alternative life styles and the ACLU and by pagans. Dobson thinks that every cartoon on TV is gay and so now it's Pat Robinson turn to stick his foot into his mouth, not that he hasn't done that before. He was asked about his conclusion that he wrote in his latest book that American judges posed the greatest threat to America in America history. Robinson said " If you look over the course of a hundred years, I think the gradual erosion of the consensus that's held our country together is probably more serious than a few bearded terrorists who fly into buildings. I think we're going to control Al Qaeda. I think we're going to get Osama Bin Laden. We won in Afghanistan. We won in Iraq, and we can contain that." How can these guys be leaders? The same arrogance that sent Republicans into Terri Schiavo's hospice room has also led them to try to police the culture of sex more rabidly than the left did the culture of sexism. No wonder another recent poll, from the Pew Research Center, finds that for all the real American displeasure with coarse entertainment, a plurality of 48 percent believes that "the government's imposing undue restrictions" on pop culture is "a greater danger" to the country than the entertainment industry itself. Who could have imagined that the public would fear Focus on the Family's James Dobson more than 50 Cent? Frank Rich - New York Times The president was able to merge the war on terror with the war in Iraq. He's not able to merge personal accounts with saving Social Security. - Margaret Carlson, CNN The Capital Gang I like to watch Extreme Makeover: Home Addition. I keep hoping the show shows up at my front door I guess. But I got to tell you after last nights show I got to stop watching it. I'm to damn old to have tears running down my face. That was one tear jerking show. Last night CBS did a Hallmark Hall of Fame show called Riding The Bus With My Sister staring Rosie O'Donnell and Andie MacDowell. It was a great movie. Both Rosie and Andie deserve an award for their performance. It was a very tender story and at the same time funny. I almost didn't watch it but decided to TIVO it and then decided there wasn't anything else on TV and so I watched it. At times the show made me feel uncomfortable, Rosie was doing her job. I wonder how I would handle a situation like that I don't know. But as the show moved on you see the impact of this woman on so many lives. What ever you think of Rosie she did an outstanding job in this movie. It brought tear to my eyes again. I guess I'm turning into a big cry baby. One thing that I really like about these Hallmark shows is that they buy up all the ads during the show. To me these Hallmark ads are like mini-movies and they too are done very, very well. Sometimes I feel like I've been bad mouthing this Tunnel thing all my adult life. But that won't stop me. I sent the following to the Editors of the SUN. Did I miss something? About two weeks ago I went to the Environmental Assessment public hearing at West Hills Elementary School. At that time they said WSDOT is assessing the environmental impacts of TWO POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS: Then in last Thursdays OURVIEWS column of the Bremerton Sun, you talk like the Tunnel option is a DONE DEAL. Now that I think about it, it ALWAYS WAS A DONE DEAL the citizens view was never considered, never an option. One last thing. Leave Rep. Beverly Woods alone her voice was speaking for all those Bremerton residents' (about 5000 that signed the petition) that see this project for what it is a CLOSSAL WASTE OF MONEY. Just remember these names during the next election: U.S. Rep. Norm Dicks, Mayor Cary Bozeman, state Sen. Phil Rockefeller, Reps Sherry Appleton and Derek. Along with these Bremerton city council names Daren Nygren, Mike Short, Will Maupin, Dianne Robinson and Carol Arends. Today we have a guest jokester in the form of the First Lady. Watch the video because when George leaves the White House she has future on Comedy Central. Tim Russert had as his guests Andrew Card, Chief of Staff and later Chris Dodd and George Allen. Card said that they want to FIX THE SYSTEM and that means PRIVATE ACCOUNTS. He is talking BULLSHIT. Privatizing Social Security does nothing to solve the so called solvency problem. They went on to talk about the NUKE option in the senate, judges, Bolton and Tom Delay and I can tell you he was SPINNING SO MUCH I got dizzy. Oh yea, he was able once again to also blame President Clinton for the high gas prices. Don't you just love these guys...they never miss a chance to point the finger at anyone but themselves. And ESPECIALLY if it's Bill Clinton. During the Dodd/Allen segment Tim had Allen stuttering and stammering like a drunken sailor. It was laughable and only one of a few times that I thought Tim stepped up and did his job as only he can do. We all have heard of Polaroid right? The camera that took the instant picture before the digital camera. Well they ran into some financial problems and were forced into Bankruptcy. Retirees, in addition to any stock they hold in the post-bankruptcy company, will get about $47 apiece under the deal. Paul Hegarty, a 40-year employee from Arlington, Mass., told the Boston Globe that the sum adds "insult to injury." On the other hand, Chairman Jacques Nasser, a former CEO of Ford Motor Co. who joined Polaroid in November 2002, will receive $12.8 million for his shares while J. Michael Pocock, who became CEO about two years ago under One Equity, will receive $8.5 million. He will run the new Polaroid. Let's see now... didn't congress just pass a tougher Bankruptcy law that makes it harder for the average citizen to even file for bankruptcy If congress had ANY BALLS they would work on protecting some of these retirement systems. I hope to God those retirees have Social Security to fall back on. Just one more reason to LEAVE THE SOCIAL SECURITY SYSTEM ALONE. The Washington State GOP wants to have a new governors election. The case goes to court tomorrow. Why don't they work to fix the problems and just move on. Their arguments just don't hold water.
If I were the judge I would NOT overturn the election I would say FIX these problems, provide the court quarterly status and return back to this court in ONE YEAR and prove to me that you have done so. CASE DISMISSED.
Car owners in the United States may grumble as the price of gasoline hovers around $2.25 a gallon. Check these prices and then tell me again how bad it is. I wonder what it would cost to fill up one of those Hummers at $6.66 a gallon. Why did Detroit give up on the electric car or maybe a better question why haven't they learned ANY THING from the Japanese auto makers. They certainly have learned from us. And they have improved on it. There are plenty of people in our state that hate the modest $.08 cent tax on gas to help fix the roads and build/repair bridges. Go figure.

WHY ISN'T WARREN BUFFETT PRESIDENT
Lou Dobbs had Warren Buffett as his guest the other day. They talked on a wide range of issues but the one I enjoyed most was his take on Social Security and how he would solve the problem. Here is the text and you can also see the video below.
