WHAT HAVE WE LEARNED

AND THE BEAT GOES ON
The Vietnam war ended 4.30.75 but the beat goes on. The hurt, the pain. We lost over 58,000 lives and to this day I'm not sure we've learned anything personally or politically in the 30 years since the war ended.
We know about the lies we were told about the war back then, yet in the last election more lies were told to help defeat a man running for president. A women that disagreed with the war as many Americans did back in the late 60's early 70's today was spit upon at a book signing by a vet.
We say we're fighting for freedom. I say whose freedom?
I'm only one voice but it pains me to watch some of the shows that say they are honoring the 30th anniversary of the end of that awful war. Some of the vets talked about not being welcomed home, that they heard others were spat on. I've heard those stories too but I never saw any of it.
Some guys came back and picked up right where they left off. I worked for the Navy as a federal employee and my experience with all the officers or enlisted that I worked with over the years was always a positive experience. Like me they were just Americans.
Click here to see short video.I hope and pray we can get out of Iraq soon. I don't want it to turn into another Vietnam.
Times they are a-changin' - Bob Dylan.
Come gather 'round people Wherever you roam And admit that the waters Around you have grown And accept it that soon You'll be drenched to the bone. If your time to you Is worth savin' Then you better start swimmin' Or you'll sink like a stone For the times they are a-changin'.
Come writers and critics Who prophesize with your pen And keep your eyes wide The chance won't come again And don't speak too soon For the wheel's still in spin And there's no tellin' who That it's namin'. For the loser now Will be later to win For the times they are a-changin'.
Come senators, congressmen Please heed the call Don't stand in the doorway Don't block up the hall For he that gets hurt Will be he who has stalled There's a battle outside And it is ragin'. It'll soon shake your windows And rattle your walls For the times they are a-changin'.
Come mothers and fathers Throughout the land And don't criticize What you can't understand Your sons and your daughters Are beyond your command Your old road is Rapidly agin'. Please get out of the new one If you can't lend your hand For the times they are a-changin'.
The line it is drawn The curse it is cast The slow one now Will later be fast As the present now Will later be past The order is Rapidly fadin'. And the first one now Will later be last For the times they are a-changin'.

IT'S NOT GOOD NEWS TODAY
THE HOLOCAUST

What is Passover?
Passover is a holiday that commemorates the time in history when the Jewish people were freed from slavery in the land of Egypt. There is much more to Passover than that short sentence and so if you would like more info click here.
I mention Passover not because I'm Jewish or that I really know much about it but I do know that it is a very important time for all Jews and so I thought it was a good time to talk about something I saw on Aaron Brown, CNN NewsNight - WITNESS TO HISTORY.
It was a story about Vivien Spitz an 80 year old Catholic. Years ago, about 60 to be exact, she was selected to be a Court Reporter during the Nuremberg trials on the Holocaust. She recorded all the testimony during that awful trial and had nightmares for years after. She later came home, was married, raised her family and got on with her life.
THE REST OF THE STORY.
About 18 - 20 years ago she heard that a local High School teacher was teaching that the HOLOCAUST didn't happen. She knew the truth and had kept all her documents from the hearings and so she dug them out and started talking about what she knew to be the truth.
I can not understand how anyone could possibly believe these nuts that say the HOLOCAUST didn't happen or why they even get anyone to attend their meetings. Guess it takes all kinds to make a world.
Now 20 years later after having talked before thousands of people Vivien Spitz is still going strong.
God bless you Vivien (You go girl)
THE PRESIDENTS PRESS CONFERENCE

SOCIAL SECURITY
"I believe a reformed system should protect those who depend on Social Security the most," Mr. Bush said. "So I propose a Social Security system in the future where benefits for low-income workers will grow faster than benefits for people who are better off."
Mr. Bush did not provide any details during his hour long appearance, and he stopped well short of offering a full-fledged plan to deal with Social Security problems.
According to Social Security's trustees, the system has enough money to pay full benefits until 2041 by drawing on trillions of dollars owed to it by the federal government. After 2041, the system would be capable of paying about three-quarters of promised benefits.
He did not give up his DAMN PRIVATIZED ACCOUNTS.
Like the Energy problem he is not looking to solve the basic problem.

CHURCH AND STATE
Gregory. David Gregory.
Q Thank you, sir. Mr. President, recently the head of the Family Research Council said that judicial filibusters are an attack against people of faith. And I wonder whether you believe that, in fact, that is what is nominating [sic] Democrats who oppose your judicial choices? And I wonder what you think generally about the role that faith is playing, how it's being used in our political debates right now?
THE PRESIDENT: I think people are opposing my nominees because they don't like the judicial philosophy of the people I've nominated.
Q Do you think that's an inappropriate statement? And what I asked is- THE PRESIDENT: No, I just don't agree with it.
Q You don't agree with it.
THE PRESIDENT: No, I think people oppose my nominees because-because of judicial philosophy.
Q Sorry, I asked you what you think of the ways faith is being used in our political debates, not just in society-
THE PRESIDENT: No, I know you asked me that. Well, I can only speak to myself, and I am mindful that people in political office should not say to somebody, you're not equally American if you don't happen to agree with my view of religion. As I said, I think faith is a personal issue, and I get great strength from my faith. But I don't condemn somebody in the political process because they may not agree with me on religion.
The great thing about America, David, is that you should be allowed to worship any way you want, and if you choose not to worship, you're equally as patriotic as somebody who does worship. And if you choose to worship, you're equally American if you're a Christian, a Jew, a Muslim. That's the wonderful thing about our country, and that's the way it should be.
Is this a case of a day late and a dollar short. Wonder why he couldn't have said that like say a week ago before that Justice Sunday thing. Kinda leaves ole Sen. Bill First out on a limb huh. (he, he, ha, ha, ho, ho).
ENERGY
I don't blame President Bush for the fuel crisis, but he owns a share of the blame because he's been in office for 5 years now. Clinton was in for 8, Bush senior for 4, Regan for 8. So you need to go back over 25 years to Carter to find even a small attempt to address the energy problem.
I think we need a President Kennedy style program to develop fuel efficient cars and other energy conservation and alternative energy sources. NOW

DON'T MESS WITH MOTHER NATURE
Bush's privatization scheme is dead

Most feel it's to riskey and too expensive. It just doesn't make sense to go into debt to "SAVE" money...how can that help.
President Bush is having a news conference tonight. He is going to EXPAND on his Social Security plan. Far as I can tell there is no plan. He's spent the last 60 days going around the country holding these so called "Town Hall" style meetings without a plan.
You know if he is being honest about having everything on the table why then are these "Town Hall" meetings not open to the general public. Seems to me if you believe in your product or position you would want and welcome people there that disagree with your point of view so you can make your case. If everyone agrees with you what's the point of the meeting.

The stock market has been in the tank for the last three months. Now what would that mean to someone that was retiring during that time period and they had one of these PRIVATE ACCOUNTS. I think the chart says it all.

It doesn't hurt to take a hard look at yourself from time to time. This little test should do it. During a visit to the mental asylum, a visitor asked the Director which is the criteria that defines a patient to be institutionalized. "Well," said the Director, "we fill up a bathtub, we offer a teaspoon, a teacup, and a bucket to the patient and ask the patient to empty the bathtub."
Okay, here's your test:
1. Would you use the spoon?
or
2. Would you use the teacup?
or
3. Would you use the bucket
[SCROLL DOWN TO SEE THE NORMAL ANSWER -- AFTER you have made your choice.]
"Oh, I understand," said the visitor. "A normal person would choose the bucket as it is larger than the spoon."
KEEP SCROLLING DOWN
"Noooooo," answered the Director. "A normal person would pull the plug."
So how did ya do?

NOTES
Note 1: This text of the Constitution follows the engrossed copy signed by Gen. Washington and the deputies from 12 States. The small superior figures preceding the paragraphs designate Clauses, and were not in the original and have no reference to footnotes. The Constitution was adopted by a convention of the States on September 17, 1787, and was subsequently ratified by the several States, on the following dates: Delaware, December 7, 1787; Pennsylvania, December 12, 1787; New Jersey, December 18, 1787; Georgia, January 2, 1788; Connecticut, January 9, 1788; Massachusetts, February 6, 1788; Maryland, April 28, 1788; South Carolina, May 23, 1788; New Hampshire, June 21, 1788. Ratification was completed on June 21, 1788. The Constitution was subsequently ratified by Virginia, June 25, 1788; New York, July 26, 1788; North Carolina, November 21, 1789; Rhode Island, May 29, 1790; and Vermont, January 10, 1791.
In May 1785, a committee of Congress made a report recommending an alteration in the Articles of Confederation, but no action was taken on it, and it was left to the State Legislatures to proceed in the matter. In January 1786, the Legislature of Virginia passed a resolution providing for the appointment of five commissioners, who, or any three of them, should meet such commissioners as might be appointed in the other States of the Union, at a time and place to be agreed upon, to take into consideration the trade of the United States; to consider how far a uniform system in their commercial regulations may be necessary to their common interest and their permanent harmony; and to report to the several States such an act, relative to this great object, as, when ratified by them, will enable the United States in Congress effectually to provide for the same. The Virginia commissioners, after some correspondence, fixed the first Monday in September as the time, and the city of Annapolis as the place for the meeting, but only four other States were represented, viz: Delaware, New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania; the commissioners appointed by Massachusetts, New Hampshire, North Carolina, and Rhode Island failed to attend. Under the circumstances of so partial a representation, the commissioners present agreed upon a report, (drawn by Mr. Hamilton, of New York,) expressing their unanimous conviction that it might essentially tend to advance the interests of the Union if the States by which they were respectively delegated would concur, and use their endeavors to procure the concurrence of the other States, in the appointment of commissioners to meet at Philadelphia on the Second Monday of May following, to take into consideration the situation of the United States; to devise such further provisions as should appear to them necessary to render the Constitution of the Federal Government adequate to the exigencies of the Union; and to report such an act for that purpose to the United States in Congress assembled as, when agreed to by them and afterwards confirmed by the Legislatures of every State, would effectually provide for the same.
Congress, on the 21st of February, 1787, adopted a resolution in favor of a convention, and the Legislatures of those States which had not already done so (with the exception of Rhode Island) promptly appointed delegates. On the 25th of May, seven States having convened, George Washington, of Virginia, was unanimously elected President, and the consideration of the proposed constitution was commenced. On the 17th of September, 1787, the Constitution as engrossed and agreed upon was signed by all the members present, except Mr. Gerry of Massachusetts, and Messrs. Mason and Randolph, of Virginia. The president of the convention transmitted it to Congress, with a resolution stating how the proposed Federal Government should be put in operation, and an explanatory letter. Congress, on the 28th of September, 1787, directed the Constitution so framed, with the resolutions and letter concerning the same, to "be transmitted to the several Legislatures in order to be submitted to a convention of delegates chosen in each State by the people thereof, in conformity to the resolves of the convention."
On the 4th of March, 1789, the day which had been fixed for commencing the operations of Government under the new Constitution, it had been ratified by the conventions chosen in each State to consider it, as follows: Delaware, December 7, 1787; Pennsylvania, December 12, 1787; New Jersey, December 18, 1787; Georgia, January 2, 1788; Connecticut, January 9, 1788; Massachusetts, February 6, 1788; Maryland, April 28, 1788; South Carolina, May 23, 1788; New Hampshire, June 21, 1788; Virginia, June 25, 1788; and New York, July 26, 1788.
The President informed Congress, on the 28th of January, 1790, that North Carolina had ratified the Constitution November 21, 1789; and he informed Congress on the 1st of June, 1790, that Rhode Island had ratified the Constitution May 29, 1790. Vermont, in convention, ratified the Constitution January 10, 1791, and was, by an act of Congress approved February 18, 1791, "received and admitted into this Union as a new and entire member of the United States."

THE BILL OF RIGHTS
Amendments 1-10 of the Constitution

THE NRA IS JUMPING FOR JOY
And wouldn't you just know it would be in Florida. The state with more problems then all the others combined.
So what has made the NRA so happy, well the legislature just passed a measure that says any person "has the right to stand his or her ground and meet force with force, including deadly force if he or she reasonably believes it is necessary to do so to prevent death or great bodily harm."
Only Florida could lead the way and pass this law.
ROADS IN WASHINGTON STATE
The state just past a gas tax increase of 8-9 cents per gal of gas over the next several years. I'm retired and drive about 5,000 miles per year. My SUV gets 23 miles per gal. Even at .10 cents additional that about $21.70 additional per year, $1.80 per month, About .06 per day. I can handle that just fine thank you.
On Dori Monsons talk show he bashes the state and calls this a "job program" well DUH let's see him build a road without creating jobs. He then goes on to say it's all just about PAY BACK to the unions and the big campaign contributors. That is just silly BS. You need people to build roads, bridges and highways.
There are 189 highway projects and Pierce, King and Snohomish account for 94 project the rest of the state account for 95 projects.
I don't want to pay anymore in taxes than I have but I'm telling you roads and highways are important. Yes there are some roads that are not needed, just look at that damn Tunnel in Bremerton. But you don't stop all projects because you disagree with one.
PRETTY GOOD JOKESTHE BOTTLE OF WINE
For all of us who are married, were married, wish we were married, wish we weren't married... Something to smile about the next time you open a bottle of wine.
Sally was driving home from one of her business trips in Northern Arizona when she saw an elderly Navajo woman walking on the side of the road. As the trip was a long and quiet one, she stopped the car and asked the Navajo woman if she would like a ride. With a word or two of thanks, she got in the car. After resuming the journey and a bit of small talk, the Navajo woman noticed a brown bag on the seat next to Sally.
"What's in the bag?" asked the old woman. Sally looked down at the brown bag and said, "It's a bottle of wine. I got it for my husband."
The Navajo woman was silent for a moment, and then speaking with the quiet wisdom of an elder said, "Good trade."

MARTHA'S NIGHT OUT PROBED

Martha Stewart attended a dinner celebration of Time magazine's "100 Most Influential People" issue, a possible violation of her probation.
Stewart, the founder of Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, is serving five months under home detention following her criminal conviction a year ago on charges related to a personal stock sale. Stewart, 63, must wear an electronic ankle bracelet at all times and is allowed to leave her upstate New York home for up to 48 hours a week, for work or other pre-approved reasons.
Federal probation officials confirmed Monday that Martha Stewart is being investigated for a possible violation of the terms of her house arrest by attending a magazine gala in New York City last week.
Well guess what...they (the probation officer) had approved Stewart attending the event ahead of time.
ARE THEY NUTS?
WHAT IS GM THINKING
I found the following on the WEB
It can make you dizzy, watching those numbers on the pump whiz by in such a blur that by the time you've pumped a measly 15 gallons of gasoline into your pickup truck, you've spent nearly $45.But wait. What if you left your house in the morning, drove your 20 miles to work and 20 miles back -- by then, you'd have burned up $7 worth of gas - - and the whole trip cost a mere 50 cents?
That would be about the price of the electricity it costs to recharge your Ford Ranger electric-powered truck overnight. That's the truck that will go about 80 miles between charges, the one that looks the same as a gas- powered Ranger.
And there are other vehicles in this electric-powered class: the most original is General Motors' EV1, built from the ground up as a fast, economical two-seater, along with the Honda EV-Plus, the Ford TH!NK, Toyota RAV4 EV, Nissan Altra, Chevrolet S10 Electric and Chrysler Epic.
Pretty nifty cars, if you want to get out from under the thumb of the oil companies. There's only one problem: For the most part, you can't have them.
GM and other manufacturers have recalled most of their cars, leaving some in public agency fleets and others in museums or universities. In fact, GM has been hauling its EV1s out to the Arizona desert and crushing them.
GM is loosing tons of money but it seems to me they were riding the SUV and TRUCK love affair that they themselves created through ads that convinced the American drivers they needed and wanted these high priced gas guzzling vehicles that get poor gas mileage but makes BIG BUCKS for GM.
GM and the other Auto companies have had a 40 year wake up call to build fuel efficient cars. But they went the other way. Now they have even stopped the little research that they did do.
Man, Japan has been building better cars for years. GM needs to look in the mirror and just look around. I’m sure they have some smart people working there...JUST NOT IN MANAGEMENT.
PRETTY GOOD JOKES
Q: Did you hear about the mechanic who was addicted to brake fluid?
A: He said it was no problem - he could stop any time.

Social Security and Private accounts.
Sen. Frist's Campaign Committee lost $16,000 since Jan 2005 in the stock market. He also lost $500,000 in his Charles Schwab mutual fund account since 2000.
Now if that was Sen. Frist ONLY source of retirement my guess is he wouldn't be to happy right about now. But of course unlike you and me this is not his only source of retirement and so it's not a big deal.
Do you want to take the risk with your retirement account. My guess is no. You might go for a NEW SEPARATE ADDITIONAL option to allow people to contribute some additional amount into the market but FIX Social Security, you do that by solving the solvency problem first.
President Bush submitted 215 judges for confirmation and 205 have been confirmed. These guys are behaving like 2 year olds that don't get their way...this is just silly stuff 95% approval is not bad just ask his father and Bill Clinton.
YOU GO GIRL!!!
This gal is a French-Canadian and was asked to sing the US National Anthem at a Hockey game. Well like so many before her she had a problem with the words. So much so that Good Morning America flew her to New York for the Sunday morning show. Watch the video here.
Click here to see the video.NASCAR VOTE - ARE YOU NUTS
There was a letter to the editor in the SUN today calling for a vote on the idea of developing a NASCAR track here in Kitsap County. This track idea has some support and some critics, to be honest I haven't followed it close enough to have a sense of how it is divided. My guess is that it's about 50-50 right now.
What I don't understand in all of these big dollar projects like sports stadiums is why the tax payer needs to fund the damn things. I mean in baseball they pay A-Rod $250 million and I'm sure that these NASCAR jocks are not standing in any food line so why can't they put up the money for this track.
What I can say from my following the Bremerton Tunnel problem if the Commissioners are behind this idea you'll never see a vote on it.
PRETTY GOOD JOKES Capitalism for Dummies - TWO COWS part 8Jewish Capitalism: You have two cows. You set them on fire and they burn for 8 days.
Cambodian Capitalism: You have two cows. The government takes both and shoots you.
Mormon Capitalism: You have two cows. You tell everyone that they should as well.
Military Capitalism: You have two cows. The government takes both and drafts you.
Are all these guys nuts? This Justice Sunday crap is scary business. It makes you wonder if these folks are any different or better than the Tellaban in Afghanistan. We have a separation of Church and State in this country unlike some other countries and you just need look at those other countries to see how much we would give up if these folks have their way. Remember the great thing about America is the fact that I can choose to believe in God and/or religion if I want...it's my choice. I sure as hell don't need any of these guys to tell me what I should believe in. Hell James Dobson sees a gay in almost every cartoon he has ever seen. What's that all about. All the crazy "shoot'em up" talk by some of these folks worries me not that I think they will do anything but rather some of their mindless followers. To me they are like the ditto heads that listen to Rush Linbaugh. Even when they are confronted with one of his lies and it is shown to be a lie they just refuse to see it. It's enough to drive you crazy. Justice O'Connor spoke out about the problem it creates (see below). As with the Schiavo case I think this Justice Sunday is going to hurt Sen. FRIST. Most Americans will see this for what it is and they don't like it. They will link him to Tom Delay and his BULLSHIT talk about judges and see that because he doesn't like the rules he want to change them. It will hurt him and if he really thought that he was ready for prime time he's fooling himself. In an unprecedented effort, the right has decided to attack judges in America, even going so far as to threaten violence. This is creating a climate of fear for America's judges. I surf the net and check out a lot of BLOG and come across some very interesting subjects. Here is a sample. Tim Eyman grassroots activist my a**. Timmy boy is a con-man. Remember the "You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can not fool all of the people all of the time". Well that's about where old timmy is right now...only he's just fooling himself and the fools that contribute to his scam. How many watches do you need to sell in order to buy a BMW? One plus $100,000 from an idiot contributor. Dori hates taxes of any kind. He had a listener sent him an email that basically agrees with Dori, only he's thinking about taking it a step further by taking money under the table in his business to avoid paying taxes on it. I sent Dori this message: Your letter writer is nuts. We'll visit him in jail. He's using the Tom Delay solution to everything he doesn't agree with. I also said the following: RE:TAXES
What would you be talking about the days and weeks after the collapse of that viaduct on the Seattle water front if it killed 1, 20, 50 or 100 people after an earthquake and the Seattle/State had done nothing to replace it knowing that it needs to be replaced. TAXES are part of building and maintaining our infrastructure. Yesterday I did a Rant on Jane Fonda. Turns out Sean Hannity of FOXNEWS didn't read it. That is such BULLSHIT. It's one thing to be biased quite another to be an IDIOT. I just love these GOOGLE Logo's. I keep track of my gas purchases. I've always bought my gas at Costco because I think it's the cheapest in Kitsap County. I went back to January 2002 because that was the last time I paid under a $1.00 per gallon (.979 to be exact). Looking at the chart you can see the Trend line is always going up. I believe the TARGET threshold is $3.00 before we see a leveling off or short pause to catch our breath. But it will continue up. This is the CURRENT plan for President Bush's make over of Social Security. As you can see it is plain and very simple to understand and it will not effect anyone over 55 years old unless they have a brain and can breath. I didn't understand the old sign and I sure as hell don't understand this new one. I think Tom Rich designed and picked the colors. For God's sake the woman apologized for her action can't we just let this go. As far as I know nobody has ever apologized for getting us into that God awful war. Nobody has apologized for NOT finding WMD's in this current war. The war ended years ago. It's like the Arabs and the Jews they are still fighting over something that happened hundreds of years ago. Same with the Irish. I'm not suggesting that we stop honoring the sacrifices of the men and women that gave their lives for something they believed in. We can never tell them how much we owe and honor them. But I believe that everyone of those more than 50,000 plus that died would say that what they fought and died for was a... About Tyco Telecommunications: Tyco Telecommunications, a business unit of Tyco Electronics, is one of the world's largest providers of advanced global broadband communication solutions. They are also one of the world's leading suppliers of undersea fiber optic networks and marine services. For more information on Tyco Telecommunications visit www.tycotelecom.com. NEW DELHI: Tatas-controlled Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd (VSNL) on Wednesday got clearance from a US government agency for acquisition of undersea cable assets of Tyco Global Network (TGN) for $130 million.
The approval by the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) will give VSNL control over 60,000 km of undersea communications cable spanning three continents. TYCO has now been sold to a foreign Company. The U.S. Government approved the sale. One more piece of our Hi-Tech sold. How We can sell our Infrastructure to any foreign country is beyond me. Are we NUTS... I'm thinking I'm the only one in America that is concered about this. At the rate we are going we will be a 3rd world country. I was born in Seattle...actually Ballard a little community northeast of Seattle, Washington. I've always loved this State. We spent about 5-6 years in San Diego and look back on that time fondly. It was because of the friends we met and never about the weather.
When we moved back to Bremerton, Washington we bought the house I still live in now with my dogs, the kids have long since got married and are busy building their own lives and homes. It's a 4 bed room house with a large fenced back yard that the dogs are safe to play in... plenty big for us then and now.
What does any of that have to do with roads you ask. Hold on I'll get there.
This last general election left a bad taste in the mouths of some people. They talk about fraud but won't charge anyone. They say some officials should be fired. They say dead people voted. They say some people voted more than once. They even want to see the State split in half.
But yesterday I was listening to the radio (KIRO710, Dori Monson). He had a republican lawyer on talking about the fact that they have found someone that through statistically analysis as now come up with a formula that says Dino Rossi won the election by 100 votes and is the real Governor. Folks we need to pull together and get on with our lives.
Ok that's all background for the real subject of today's rant, which is ROADS.
If you've read this BLOG for any length of time you know I'm against the Bremerton Tunnel which is in fact a road. I'm against wasting money, $28 million in this case on unnecessary project simply because someone else is paying for it.
There has been some talk about the eastern part of the State not wanting to pay for road projects in the western part of the State because they don't use them. That's nuts. The way I look at it is this. When it was time for me to paint my house I didn't say I wasn't going to paint my kids rooms cause I didn't use them. The house is shared by all of us as is the State. Sometimes part of the house/state needs repair and we all chip in to make that happen.
I swear sometimes I wonder how people think. How did the roads, highways, bridges and tunnels get here in the first place, and don't they ever wear out and need replacement or repair?
An open-house-style public hearing was held last night April 19, 2005. The meeting was held West Hills Elementary, 520 S. National Ave., Bremerton. The purpose was to gather public input on the adequacy of the Environment Assessment (EA) done by the Washington State Dept. of Transportation. This EA was on the Bremerton Ferry Tunnel.
I came prepared for this meeting . It was scheduled to start at 4:30 pm which was just perfect because it gave me time to go downtown and count the offloading of the 3 o'clock ferry from Seattle arriving at Bremerton at about 4 pm, as I had done on April 14th for the 8:45 from Seattle.
For reference there were 64 cars on the April 14th run, with 24 cars turning left on Burwell while 40 continued north on Washington. So 62% went North while only 38% turned left which is the street the $28 million dollar Tunnel dumps the cars on.
In my count tonight (4/19) the total car count was 158 with 39 turning left on Burwell and 119 going north on Washington. This time 75% went north while only 25% turned left on Burwell. The two runs combined is 28% turning left on Burwell while 71% continue North.
I bought a CD called Downtown Bremerton Pedestrian/BTC Access Improvements Project for $5.00. It contains all of the various studies used in this Tunnel project.
Since I'm interested in the traffic flow I went to the section on the CD dealing with traffic, it's called '2005 Traffic Volume Projections'.
It's funny how the numbers are just the mirror opposite of my findings. I didn't include it here but the study talks some hocus-pocus on how they get their numbers. To me it's pretty simple if a car turns left on Burwell it counts as ONE for the Burwell group while on the other hand if a car goes north it counts as ONE for the Washington group. Pretty simple huh.
I asked the so called traffic expert why the numbers didn't match a little closer and he said they added in projections and additional traffic due to downtown improvements. I'm telling you I don't have a degree in Traffic management but I've live here in Bremerton for over 30 years and if you have ever driven through downtown Bremerton it is not awash with pedestrians or cars.
When I got to the meeting they had displays setup on the two alternatives - a tunnel and a surface fix.
This was not your normal public meeting were people provided testimony by standing up and talking. Rather there was a court reporter to take your testimony. Others could submit written comments (that's what I did) or chose to go home and submit e-mails or write letter explaining their concerns.
We shall see, I'll keep you posted.
Is he nuts??? I was at this meeting it is less open plus you don't get to feel the attitude of the other people. You don't get to hear other peoples questions and more importantly the presenters answers. To me this was a waste of time. They had their results going in...no new information was gathered.
To me the bottom line is that even with the majority of the people in Bremerton not wanting this Tunnel it will be built. There is to much money and political mussel behind it. They can not see it fail now.
Remember these city council names Daren Nygren, Mike Short, Will Maupin, Dianne Robinson and Carol Arends. By their vote they said you didn't have the need or right to vote. You can change that in the next election.
They want King County to take responsibility for some 90-100 missing ballots. BUT, Don't call for anyone to take responsibility for the missing WMD's.
They said it was the demos that Created and released the Terri Schivo memo but it was a republican martinez. Will we EVER hear an apology.
Where is our 8.8 BILLION dollars lost in Iraq and why is the justice dept. not investigating?
Conservatives like to practice selective forgiveness. Bush is totally forgiven for his drinking problem and shoddy military record during the Vietnam War. Jerry Falwell and Newt Gingrich have been forgiven for their adultery and Bob Bennett's gambling addiction is a thing of the past. Tom DeLay is granted perpetual forgiveness for all he has done in the past, present and future and Dr. Frist was only thinking about attaining medical knowledge when he adopted all those cats and then used them for experiments. On the other hand, Bill Clinton can never be forgiven for having consensual sex. When Clinton's painfully honest and self incriminating memoir came out, he was, as always, ridiculed by the right Even today...if it's raining they find some way to blame Bill Clinton. Is an illegal vote the same as fraud? If not why do we need a new vote??? This is a letter I wrote to the NEW FCC Chairman about Russ Limbaugh:
OK, your the new kid on the block. Let's see how Fair and Balanced you are. I'm not going to repeat what Rush Limbaugh said on the air but I'm sure you have heard it from others.
But he has gone one step further and issued you a challenge which I'm sure you will take up in the interest of being Fair and Balanced.
Don't you agree.
Rush Limbaugh said:
My reaction is, 'Somebody go ahead and turn me into the FCC. I'll be honored to be fined.' It's just another government agency with its hand in my back pocket, so go right ahead."
Real-World Capitalism: You have two cows. You share two cows with your neighbors. You and your neighbors bicker about who has the most "ability" and who has the most "need". Meanwhile, no one works, no one gets any milk, and the cows drop dead of starvation. Australian Capitalism: You have two cows. You try to wrestle them. Iraqi Capitalism: You have two cows. They are biochemical weapons. Perestroika Capitalism: You have two cows. You have to take care of them, but the government takes all the milk. You steal back as much milk as you can and sell it on the black market. Last Friday the Good Morning America show did a segment of Sex Offenders. They said we should all go to the web and look up to see if there are any living in our neighborhood. To do this here are the steps. Go to GOOGLE, In the search box enter your two digit state followed by "sex offender". In my case I entered the following without the quotes "wa sex offender" this will give you a list of sites. Look for your states Sex Offender Information Center. I was surprised to find that in my zip code area (shown below) there are 6 offenders. Kitsap County has 50 that are registered. What worries me is that I have heard that many more offenders have not registered with the state. Why this is I don't know. I think this type of crime should be a ONE STRIKE crime, I don't feel you can fix this problem. Just look at the number of children that have been killed by these guys even after having served years in jail. Now that you have the info stay alert. What is almost as sad is that these guys in the NRA are not concerned with what "GOOD OLD BOY" Delay does as long as he supports the NRA. A Polish Joke A man enters a store and tells the clerk, "I'd like some Polish sausage." The clerk looks at him and says, "Are you Polish?" The guy, clearly offended, says, "Well, yes I am. But let me ask you something.
If I had asked for Italian sausage, would you ask me if I was Italian?
Or, if I had asked for German bratwurst, would you ask me if I was German?
Or, if I asked for a Kosher hot dog, would you ask me if I was Jewish?
Or, if I had asked for a Taco, would you ask if I was Mexican?"
The clerk says, "Well, no."
"And if I asked for some Irish whiskey, would you ask if I was Irish?"
"Well, I probably wouldn't", replied the clerk.
With deep, self-righteous indignation, the guy says,
"Well, all right then, why did you ask me if I'm Polish just because I asked for Polish sausage?"
The clerk replies, "Because you're at Home Depot".
When you carefully look at the facts, it becomes clear that the proposed partial Social Security privatization is literally a Con Man Smoke-and-Mirrors Shell Game that - in the form it has been proposed - will not lead to any of the alleged benefits argued by its supporters. It is amazing the amount of misinformation that one reads about social security privatization... When he has: I've noticed more and more people writing letters to the editor about Bremerton's GOLDEN TUNNEL. I hope to have a summary next week sometime, stay tuned. Hollywood Capitalism: You have two cows. You give them utter implants and also teach them to bullet-dodge, wall climb and shoot milk out of their utters on command.
Clinton Capitalism: You have two cows. You deny any knowledge of them.
Bureaucratic Capitalism: You have two cows. They are cared for by ex-chicken farmers. You have to take care of the chickens the government took from the chicken farmers. The government gives you as much milk and eggs the regulations say you should need.
Gore Capitalism: You have two cows. You claim you invented them.
But that's not what caught my eye, no it was his comparison of the gas mileage he got back then 60 years ago compared to today. Back then he said his car got 16 miles per gallon while today his car gets 21 miles per gallon.
Think about it... that is a 5 mile per gallon improvement in 60 years. With all our hi tech we have only moved the mileage per gallon forward by 5 miles.
Do you think congress ( and I mean BOTH SIDES ) really wants to do anything at all about solving the growing energy problem in America. A 60 year History has shown they don't.
What do we need to do to wake up America...run out of gas I guess.
You may have noticed that I've taken to use the word BULLSHIT more in the recent past, not that I hadn't used it before cause I have. It seems I've used it all my life just not to the extent that I use it now.
There is a reason for this and I'll just say for now it was because I saw an interesting interview a few weeks ago by Jon Stewart with the author. It was so interesting that I went and bought his book and am now reading it.
It's a cute little book and yes I mean little. It's about 4 by 6 inches and only has 67 pages.
Here is a brief overview that I got but don't remember where.
On Bullshit One of the most salient features of our culture is that there is so much bullshit. Everyone knows this. Each of us contributes his share. But we tend to take the situation for granted. Most people are rather confident of their ability to recognize bullshit and to avoid being taken in by it. So the phenomenon has not aroused much deliberate concern. We have no clear understanding of what bullshit is, why there is so much of it, or what functions it serves. And we lack a conscientiously developed appreciation of what it means to us. In other words, as Harry Frankfurt writes, "we have no theory." Frankfurt, one of the world's most influential moral philosophers, attempts to build such a theory here. With his characteristic combination of philosophical acuity, psychological insight, and wry humor, Frankfurt proceeds by exploring how bullshit and the related concept of humbug are distinct from lying. He argues that bullshitters misrepresent themselves to their audience not as liars do, that is, by deliberately making false claims about what is true. In fact, bullshit need not be untrue at all. Rather, bullshitters seek to convey a certain impression of themselves without being concerned about whether anything at all is true. They quietly change the rules governing their end of the conversation so that claims about truth and falsity are irrelevant. Frankfurt concludes that although bullshit can take many innocent forms, excessive indulgence in it can eventually undermine the practitioner's capacity to tell the truth in a way that lying does not. Liars at least acknowledge that it matters what is true. By virtue of this, Frankfurt writes, bullshit is a greater enemy of the truth than lies are. Harry G. Frankfurt is Professor of Philosophy Emeritus at Princeton University. His books include The Reasons of Love (Princeton), Necessity, Volition, and Love, and The Importance of What We Care About.
Can you explain to me why a pharmacist has the right to refuse filling a LEGAL, VALID, DOCTOR PRESCRIBED medical prescription because the pharmacist has a personal "MORAL" objection to it. I say that pharmacist needs to find another line of work. Washington - Rep. Tom Tancredo says it is "probably not the worst idea" for embattled House Majority Leader Tom DeLay to step down while he deals with ethics allegations.
Stepping into a swirling Washington controversy, the Littleton Republican said he doesn't think the current accusations of impropriety against DeLay amount to much. But Tancredo said that from a political perspective, DeLay has handled the ethics issue "stupidly."
"I don't think we should try to oust him," he said in an interview Thursday at the Capitol. "Right now, I would not encourage him to leave. If he chose to resign as majority leader until these matters are resolved, that's probably not the worst idea."
President Bush on WMD:
Well the president just couldn't think of even one mistake.
Tom Delay on trashing the judges:
"Sometimes I get a little more passionate, and particularly during the moment and the day that Terri Schiavo was starved to death, emotions were flowing," DeLay said. "I probably said - I did, I didn't probably - I said something in an inartful way and I shouldn't have said it that way, and I apologize for saying it that way."
On March 31, the day of Schiavo's death, DeLay denounced federal judges who failed to halt her death as "arrogant, out-of-control, and unaccountable."
"The time will come for the men responsible for this to answer for their behavior, but not today," DeLay said. "Today we grieve, we pray, and we hope to God this fate never befalls another."
Rush Limbaugh on his BJ comment:
LIMBAUGH said, "I am going to apologize not for saying what I said, but I'm going to apologize if it offended anybody. I never apologize for what I say, but if some of you were offended by a graphic term involving actions committed by BILL CLINTON and MONICA LEWINSKY that have now spread to AMERICA's high schools, I apologize. I meant to say 'oral sex' throughout, but the guttural term escaped my pouty lips in a moment of pure, unbridled passion. The staff was so stunned and so scared today they didn't dare hit the delete button, the deedle button, and so it got out there.
My reaction is, 'Somebody go ahead and turn me into the FCC. I'll be honored to be fined.' It's just another government agency with its hand in my back pocket, so go right ahead."
I found the following on the NY Daily News. This guy is rated as the 2nd if not the 1st top rated show on radio and Cable TV. To me he is just full of and spews out BULLSHIT. How he get those ratings is beyond me, I just don't get it. Maybe I need to move to a red state. If the conservative guests on Fox News' "Hannity and Colmes" sound especially on-message, that's because they're being coached by the best:
Sean Hannity himself.
On the March 31 installment of the shouting-head show, the guests included two of the late Terri Schiavo's former nurses, Trudy Capone and Carla Sauer Iyer, arguing that their patient wasn't brain-dead.
Between commercials, according to an off-air audiotape obtained by investigative comedian Harry Shearer for last Sunday's episode of his weekly radio program, "Le Show," Hannity coached the women on exactly how to respond when liberal co-host Alan Colmes cross-examined them.
"Just say, 'I'm here to tell what I saw,'" Hannity can be heard instructing his guests. "No matter what the question, 'I'm here to tell you what I saw. I'm here to tell you what I saw.'"
Hannity adds helpfully: "Say, 'I'm not going to be distracted by silliness.' How's that? Does that help you? Look into that camera. Look at me when I'm talking."
On the air, Iyer performs beautifully. "I don't have any opinions or judgments. I was there," she declares
After the segment ends, Hannity gushes off the air to the nurses: "We got the points out. It's hard, this isn't easy. But you did great, both of you. Thank you, guys. Those nurses are powerful, aren't they?"
On his radio show, Shearer injected: "Yeah, especially when they do what you tell 'em to do. Very powerful when they follow instructions from the host!"
A Fox News flack didn't respond to Lowdown's detailed message yesterday.
PRETTY GOOD JOKES Yesterday I sent the following letter to Senator Phil Rockefeller, Rep. Beverly Woods, and Rep. Sherry Appleton. It was in reaction to the article in the SUN on the Bremerton Tunnel ( 4/13/5). I have been following the issue of building this worthless Ferry Tunnel in downtown Bremerton for the last several years. It is my opinion after attending 3 public meeting conducted by the city of Bremerton on this Tunnel that the general population feel this Tunnel is a waste of tax payer dollars. Reading the letters to the editor of The Bremerton Sun has reinforced my feelings that this is the case. I even spent a few hours watching the Ferry unload to get a sense as to how much time it took and how much delay it create. It was minimal as it currently is done. I think the process could be greatly improved with a little traffic coordination like light synchronizing, changing Washington to be one way north bound. I wonder if a test of synchronizing the lights has ever been done. Any bets? After the State DOT had a wake up call when a law suit tried to force the city of Bremerton to send this to a VOTE OF THE PEOPLE, the DOT said "oh yea...this really is our highway and project". Case closed. Think about this, how many different Ferry docks serve these car ferries around the sound. How many have traffic going through town. Now how come they can handle this off loading problem but little old downtown Bremerton needs to dig itself a $28 million dollar hole in the ground. Oh by the way it's not like we don't have history on our side. In the over 30 years I've lived here no one...not one person has been killed during this off loading process. Not a bad record. Seems to me they could use this money out at that Bond intersection as Rep. Woods suggests. Anyway, the article went on to say that you support the revitalization of Bremerton as we all do, but common sense tells us when something is wrong and this Tunnel is that something. It is a SOLUTION LOOKING FOR A PROBLEM and I would hope you would reconsider tailoring your support to what makes sense and save money too. What does the SUN do? Well in today's (4/14/5) SUN they run an ATTACK article against Rep. Woods. saying she is trying to block the Tunnel. Finally someone see's it for what it is A BIG WASTE OF MONEY.
So I write a letter to the editor, which they won't print because they don't allow themselves to be attacked. See how that works boys and girls. I see by your attack article (OURVIEWS) against Rep. Woods that you are not interested in the truth nor common sense. First you say it will "provide quick outlet for MOST" cars. I just went downtown to count the cars as they off loaded from the 8:45 am run from Seattle . My count shows that 25 turned on Burwell and 40 continued north on Washington. That's 62% , in an election that's considered a landslide. Then you go on to say "reducing an awkward - and hazardous - situation for cars and pedestrians." I'll tell you I've lived here for over 30 years and even when there is some event on the pier such as the Blackberry festival, your suggesting that downtown Bremerton is awash with pedestrians is laughable and sad. Oh by the way it's not like we don't have history on our side, in these 30 years I've lived here... no one... not one person has been killed during this off loading process. Not a bad record. Wonder how that stacks up with the that Bond intersection that Rep. Woods talks about. You say "Cost would be paid mostly by federal funds." What part of the current FEDERAL DEFEICET don't you understand.
Building that damn TUNNEL does nothing to improve the "economically blighted" downtown, new business and a lot of paint will. The republicans say they SUPPORT THE TROOPS, but when it comes to health care and insurance they go missing. On 4/12/5 United States Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) offered her amendment to the $80 billion supplemental funding bill for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The Murray Amendment would provide $2 billion in funding for a critical cost of war -- healthcare for America's veterans, including those returning home from Operations Enduring and Iraqi Freedom.
The amendment went down to defeat by a vote of 54-46 WITH ALL BUT ONE REPUBLICAN MEMBER OF THE SENATE VOTING AGAINST THE VETERANS' FUNDING. They talk the talk but don't walk the walk. What damn hypocrites these republicans are. It turns out that amount would give about $40 million per state. In terms of the cost (in dollars) compared to the overall cost of this war that's peanuts. Hell Bremerton is getting $28 million for that WORTHLESS Ferry Tunnel. All those Support The Troops ribbon stickers you see on so many cars cost about what each citizens share would cost. This is nuts. It must make all those republicans that support the war feel real good right about now.
1547 U.S. Military Fatalities in Iraq (thru today) 11442 U.S. Military Wounded in Iraq (thru 19-Mar-05) 19740 Iraqis Killed (thru today) NBC host Katie Couric interviewed former President Bill Clinton on the April 12 edition of Today about the William J. Clinton Foundation HIV/AIDS Initiative's April 11 pledge of $10 million "to deliver treatment to 10,000 children in at least 10 countries by the end of the year." In the course of the interview, Couric asked Clinton about how he thought the Democratic Party can "retool itself so they're not simply seen as obstructionist in terms of the president's agenda": COURIC: Let me ask you one political question, if I could, President Clinton. As you know, Howard Dean is now head of the DNC [Democratic National Committee]. Right now it seems the most effective thing that Democrats are doing on Capitol Hill is blocking various nominations, at least from their perspective. Like, you know, John Bolton, or -- U.S. ambassador to the U.N. -- or head of the EPA [Environmental Protection Agency], or the head of the FDA [Food and Drug Administration]. How can the Democratic Party retool itself so they're not simply seen as obstructionist in terms of the president's agenda? CLINTON: Well, first of all, I don't think that's fair. I don't think Mr. [John] Negroponte [nominee for national intelligence director] will be blocked. I'm not sure Mr. Bolton will be blocked. There are policy reasons on the environment and food safety for debates on the others. And on judges, that's just a hoax. I mean, the Democrats blocked 10 out of over 200 judges. The Republicans wouldn't even give a vote to 40 of my Court of Appeals judges -- four times as many, just on the Court of Appeals, never mind all the others that they wouldn't have voted. So, this image that, I'm sad to say, you know, you just perpetrated it, it's ridiculous. The Democratic Senate has been nowhere near as obstructionist to President Bush on judges as the Republican Senate was to me. Not even close. PRETTY GOOD JOKES Capitalism for Dummies - TWO COWS part 4
Canadian Capitalism: You have two cows. Let's make a hockey team, eh?
Chinese Capitalism: You have two cows. You have 300 people milking them. You claim full employment, high bovine productivity, and arrest the newsman who reported the numbers.
Irish Capitalism: You have two cows. You feed them potatoes and wonder why they emigrate.
Israeli Capitalism: So, there are these two Jewish cows, right? They open a milk factory, an ice cream store, and then sell the movie rights. They send their calves to Harvard to become doctors. So, who needs people?
An open-house-style public hearing has been scheduled for April 19, 2005 to gather public input on the adequacy of the Environment Assessment (EA). WSDOT expects a "Findings of No Significant Impacts" (FONSI) for this project. Now I ask you are you surprised with that conclusion? The BULLSHIT does not stop be it the City or now the State. These assholes go through the motion and conduct these FAKE meetings and they are even so bold as to tell you the outcome ie: FONSI before the meeting is held. This meeting is scheduled Tuesday, April 19, 2005, 4:30 PM to &:00 PM at West Hills Elementary, 520 S. National Ave., Bremerton Back in August 2003 I went to the second of these so called information meetings. At the time this was being run by the city of Bremerton. The state had no interest (until it looked like maybe a law suit might derail the cities effort then the state got real interested and took over the project). Below is my BLOG rant back then. I also sent it to the SUN, the Mayor, and the City council. Never got a reply. Last night (8/28/3) I went to the second of several meetings conducted by the Bremerton City Council members. I think five council members were in attendance. The single topic was on the proposed $28 million dollar FERRY TUNNEL. At the start, after some introductory comments one of the councilmen/moderator suggested some rules of conduct and behavior that should be followed and some recommended line of questions that should be asked. I looked around the group of attendees which I estimate to be about 80-90 adults and felt more than a little uncomfortable at his remarks. I'd guess the average age of those in attendance was around 50-60 years old and did not need to be told how to behave. Call me to sensitive if you will but that was my reaction. I'll discuss another reaction a little later. There was a 30 minute presentation explaining what was being done and why it was being done. Then it was open to the public for discussion. What was strange was that there were several questions that were raised and the councilman/moderator did not/would not/could not (your choice) provide an answer. But what was strange was that he would go on to the next question without even acknowledging that a question had just been asked. Not a "I don't know", not a "I'll get back to you on that", not a "Does anyone here know the answer?". NOTHING!!! At one point the councilman/moderator admonished the attendees that they should first read the "Study findings" before they asked questions. As far as I know the FINAL Study was not available until just this week. The document on the cities WEB is dated 8-26-2003. I do not think the city council saw the study until just two weeks ago when Norm Dicks attended their meeting on 8/13 (with that $28 million carrot in hand) and they we're all "GA-GA" and ended up voting 8-1 to march ahead with the $4 million funding of the design phase of the tunnel (only councilman McConnell having guts enough to vote no). So why is the councilman telling us we need to be better prepared before we ask questions on this "GOLDEN TUNNEL" when he voted yes without first reading the study. Give me a break. Makes me worry and wonder about our city council and why they bother to go through the motion of conducting a Town Hall meeting (information meeting I think I've heard it called). I get the sickening feeling that this is all a deliberate deceptiveness designed to lull the public into believing they have a say in their government when in fact the deal is already done. Was any one taking notes? Will the questions and answers be put on the WEB for all to see? At the last meeting (8/21/3) a question was asked "Will the people of Bremerton be given the opportunity to vote on this Tunnel. Was any study conducted to determine where the ferry traffic goes (Burwell, Manette Bridge, Warren Ave or 11th street to Kitsap Way. They talk about one Surface street idea up Pacific Ave but they didn't address the more OBVIOUS Washington Street solution. I think this solution would cost a fraction of what the tunnel costs.
Here is my sense of how people feel about this tunnel project based on comments and questions at the two meetings.
Will anyone take responsibility and answer the questions I raise? Or am I just barking at the moon/mars.
PRETTY GOOD JOKES Capitalism for Dummies - TWO COWS part 3
Russian Capitalism: You have two cows. You count them and learn you have five cows. You count them again and learn you have 42 cows. You count them again and learn you have 12 cows. You stop counting cows and open another bottle of vodka.
Arkansas Capitalism: You have two cows. That one on the left is kinda cute...
Hindu Capitalism: You have two cows. You worship them.
Swiss Capitalism: You have 5000 cows, none of which belong to you. You charge others for storing them. Californian Capitalism: You have two cows. They are happy.
Bush Capitalism: You have two cows. You think that cows and humans can coexist peacefully. You give all of the milk to the upper class when they have cows of their own, and the lower class needs milk.
Martha Stewart Capitalism: You have two cows. After decorating them, you sell them because a farmer told you the price of milk might go down.
In today's letters section of the SUN there was a letter talking about requiring liability insurance for license tag renewal since we all do this each year. Good idea as far as it goes. The letter writer goes on to say that people can cancel their insurance after they renew their tabs or cancel after they get a ticket for not having the insurance. I guess people might do that but I'm not sure how many that would be. I currently pay $14.00 per year for Uninsured Motorists coverage others might pay more or less but it's still an added fee I need to pay. What I think we should do is stop charging me $14.00 extra on my insurance but rather charge me $1 to $2 service fee to fund enforcement of this problem. They insurance companies have computers and could send the Department of Licensing an electronic notice that these Insurance policies were added/canceled/terminated. Much of this process could be done electronically by comparing car ID's to these insurance notices. Notices would eventually be sent to the people that didn't renew their insurance. As the letter writer says the police would remove license plates from the vehicles that don't comply. I wouldn't mind if the fee went to $14 because it might get these free loaders off the street. Capitalism for Dummies - TWO COWS Japanese Capitalism: You have two cows. You redesign them so they are one-tenth the size of an ordinary cow and produce twenty times the milk. You then create cow cartoon images called Cowkimon and market them World-Wide. German Capitalism: You have two cows. You reengineer them so they live for 100 years, eat once a month, and milk themselves. Italian Capitalism: You have two cows, but you don't know where they are. You break for lunch. British Capitalism: You have two cows. Both are mad. One year after speaking at Harvard, Robert Novak (CNN Crossfire) said Harvard and Berkeley host only "left-wing speakers" CNN host Robert Novak claimed on Crossfire that "they only have left-wing speakers on campuses like Berkeley and Harvard." In fact, conservatives have spoken at both universities, including Novak's own speech at Harvard University's Institute of Politics on April 8, 2004. Besides cable TV does anyone else care about the Charles and Camilla wedding? Why is it so damn hard for this state to pass a bill requiring audits? It would help shut up the skeptics about the use of our taxes on roads. At least that's the theory. By the way, how did we get the roads and highways that we currently have and why do we think any new ones should be FREE. We don't solve problems in this country anymore. We haven't since President Kennedy said we should go to the moon. Gas was a problem back in the 70's what have we done since then to make cars more efficient? WE BUILT THEM BIGGER. Have you had to fill up your car the last couple of days? Back in the 70's gas was selling for under a dollar a gallon. Then we seemed to have run into a huge shortage (funny how that happens) and long gas lines popped up all across the country. Through some kind of magic the lines went the way of the "DODO BIRD". Interesting enough the price went up over that dollar threshold and has NEVER gone back down. Today I think the target is the $3.00 mark. Back then we had a big car, a Ford Country Squire Station Wagon. We decided to do our part and so we sold the Wagon bought a little Honda station wagon that over 30 miles a gallon, 8-10 more than I get with my Mazda SUV today. There was a big push to build small fuel efficient cars. I think that effort ended as soon as we bought our Honda. Over the years they didn't put any effort into making cars that could get really great gas mileage and the small cars started to bigger. Today we are driving TANKS that get less than 10 miles per gallon. I drive under 5,000 miles a year and my car gets 22 miles per gallon these high prices don't worry me as much as it would if I drove 20-30 thousand a year. Remember a few weeks ago (time flies when we're having fun, right) that "Strategy Memo" outlining how Republicans could gain political capital by intervening in the Terri Schiavo case. Well it turns out it was written by Florida Sen. Mel Martinez's legal counsel, who abruptly left his job Wednesday. This is interesting to me not because the republicans agreed or disagreed with it's content, hell they're going to lie depending on the direction of the wind (errr polls, oh yea they don't look at polls I forgot). No I'm interested in it to see how many of the Talking Heads issue an apology to the democrats because they accused them of dreaming up this so called "SCHIAVO MEMO" hopping to embarrass the republicans. A little dirty trick so to say. As "evidence" for their claims that the Schiavo memo was a Democratic "dirty trick," conservative blogs such as Power Line and media sources pointed to the fact that the memo was "unsigned" and not on official Senate letterhead. In another posting on March 22, Power Line suggested that the memo was "suspicious" because it "mix[ed] political strategy points...with talking points for Senatorial argument. On March 23, Michelle Malkin repeated the "evidence" touted by Power Line, and suggested that spelling errors in the memo also raised questions about its authenticity. In a March 23 post to his blog on the National Review's website, Jim Geraghty also repeated the "evidence" that appeared on the Power Line blog, and stated that "creepy phrases" in the memo indicate that the memo was written by a dumb GOP operative or a "Democratic dirty trickster." March 24 "Washington Prowler" column, The American Spectator echoed the same so-called "evidence" and stated, "It's Rathergate all over again." On March 30, The Washington Post's Howard Kurtz reported on the controversy surrounding the memo. Kurtz apparently relied on the so-called "evidence" put forth by Power Line and the Spectator to reach the conclusion that "there are several strange things about" the memo: On April 6, The Washington Times published a front-page article titled "Was the Schiavo memo a fake?" that used a formal survey of Senate offices as "evidence" for questioning the authenticity of the Schiavo memo. Rush Limbaugh: "The memo was made up by Democrat staffers." Hinderaker op-ed in The Weekly Standard: "A reasonable conclusion would be that the 'talking points memo' might be a fake." Limbaugh asserts the memo is forged. It's a forged memo! Nobody in the Senate Republican leadership has the slightest idea where this memo came from. Accuracy in Media press release: "[M]edia outlets who reported on this bogus memo need to admit their error." Yea like that will ever happen. Have you checked the gas prices lately. I buy my gas a COSTCO and the other day I paid the most I have ever paid per gallon of regular gasoline. I paid $2.11 per gallon. Thank god I only drive around 5,000 miles per year Yesterday I talked about this Social Security speech that president Bush made the other day. Today in the New York Times Editorial section they said it much better that I did. I don't understand this Bush/Rove strategy. Telling lies, half truths just isn't cutting it with me or the majority of American. Imagine this: On his next trip to Japan, President Bush visits the vault at the Bank of Japan, where that country's $712 billion in United States government bonds is stored. There, as the cameras roll, he announces that the bonds, backed by the full faith and credit of the United States, are, in fact, worthless i.o.u.'s. He does the same thing when he visits China and so on around the world, until he has personally repudiated the entire $2 trillion of United States debt held by foreigners. Mr. Bush rehearsed just that act on Tuesday, when he visited the office of the federal Bureau of Public Debt in Parkersburg, W.Va. He posed next to a file cabinet that holds the $1.7 trillion in Treasury securities that make up the Social Security trust fund. He tossed off a comment to the effect that the bonds were not "real assets." Later, in a speech at a nearby university, he said: "There is no trust fund. Just i.o.u.'s that I saw firsthand." Social Security takes in more money than it needs to pay current beneficiaries, and the excess is invested in the Treasury securities that Mr. Bush was discussing. They carry the same legal and political obligations as all other forms of Treasury debt, every penny of which has always been paid in full and on time. In his speech, Mr. Bush went on to acknowledge that future generations would have to make good on the debt. But the intended meaning of the photo-op was clear. In the hope of persuading people to privatize Social Security - a move that would only add to the growing debt burden for future generations - Mr. Bush wants Americans to believe that the trust fund is a joke. But if the trust fund is a joke, so is the full faith and credit of the United States. Fortunately, the governments, institutions and individuals who hold United States debt can tell a publicity stunt from a policy statement. Still, casting aspersions on a basic obligation of the United States government is insulting and irresponsible. I can remember the day when REAL MEN would resign their positions given half the charges that this guy has had leveled against him. Now he has brought in his wife and daughter. Some say his daughter did work on his campaign and may have been worth whatever she was paid, but please his wife. WASHINGTON, April 5 - The wife and daughter of Tom DeLay, the House majority leader, have been paid more than $500,000 since 2001 by Mr. DeLay's political action and campaign committees, to a detailed review of disclosure statements filed with the Federal Election Commission and separate fund-raising records in Mr. DeLay's home state, Texas. Most of the payments to his wife, Christine A. DeLay, and his only child, Dani DeLay Ferro, were described in the disclosure forms as "fund-raising fees," "campaign management" or "payroll," with no additional details about how they earned the money. The payments appear to reflect what Mr. DeLay's aides say is the central role played by the majority leader's wife and daughter in his political career. Google has started their own map service Click here for full story. This is version 1.0 and needs some times to develop but it's still pretty cool and if I know Google they'll get it right pretty quickly. Check it out here. President Bush said on Tuesday that younger workers were counting on a fictional trust fund for their future retirement benefits, as he pressed his case for changes to Social Security in the face of continuing doubts among fellow Republicans. "A lot of people in America think there's a trust," Bush told a forum here, shortly after he stopped off at the Bureau of Public Debt, the agency that keeps records on the nation's debt. "But that's not the way it works," he said. "There is no trust fund -- just IOU's." Has the President gone completely NUTS? What the hell does he think US TREASURY BONDS ARE? They are helping to run the country, to pay for his war in IRAQ (remember that little item). It's like saying the money you put in your saving account in the bank is just a bunch of worthless IOU's. That's just crazy. The US Government would have to go BANKRUPT before these would be worthless IOU's. It's more of the Old tired republican technique that says if you tell a lie often enough the public will soon believe it. Can you say "WMD's", "al Qaida = IRAQ Connectio" (40% of Americans still believe this one) and now it's "Worthless IOU's" Democrats also accused Bush of recklessness in suggesting the trust fund does not exist. "These statements could raise needless doubts among American and foreign investors about the United States' willingness to meet its fiscal obligations. This has potentially broad ranging and damaging implications for our economy," Reid and Pelosi said. I have a TIVO and I've come to rely on it. It does the same thing as a VCR but is so much more convenient. For example I record IMUS everyday, it's a three hour show that starts at 3 am when I'm sleeping. I can watch IMUS in under two hours by skipping commercials. I can do it in even less time if there is someone on that doesn't interest me. It's great. But today for the first time something popped up right in the middle of my screen when I was skipping forward as I was watching IMUS. It was a picture advertising a movie/TV show called The Interpreter coming April 22. Now my TIVO cost me about $300.00 plus a life time programming agreement of another $300.00. Back when I signed up there was no talk about these mini commercial. These mini commercials are used in a lot of movies and many TV shows. The THE APPRENTICE builds their show around them, last week it was Home Depot yet it's one of the highest rated shows on TV. Extreme Makeover Home Edition has Sears and many other sponsors built into it. You go to a movie and pay your $10-$12 dollars and you get to watch some commercials before the start of the movie. It's nuts. Last weekend I noticed that CNN and FOX had said the POPE had died. It was BREAKING NEWS of course. Only thing is he hadn't died at that time. They later corrected it. So the question is WHY? Why is it necessary to be the first kid on the block to get this news on the air. Why don't they just wait till they get the real facts. I love COSTCO...but, you need to be a little lame to pay an annual fee just to shop there. It's the same thing as going to the Annual Home Show where you pay about $10.00 to get in just to see a bunch of stuff that you can see at Home Depot for free. Another thing that bugs me about COSTCO is the clerks that stand at the exit and take your sales slip and quickly scan your cart and then line or mark your slip as having been reviewed. I guess they are looking for a wide screen TV or maybe a refrig. I can see that might be an effective check if I had 3-4 items but come on, I would guess that the average cart must have 15-20 items. Another thing why can't they make some thing in smaller sizes. Bake apple pies half the size of the current ones and wrap them up in two's, one could be frozen while the other would be used. One last thing and I'll move on. Why can't COSTCO buy one or two of those shopping cart tractors like they have at Target. It's hard work for those kids especially in the rain to hall all those carts back to the store. People who point at their wrist while asking for the time.... I know where my watch is pal, where the hell is yours? Do I point at my crotch when I ask where the toilet is?
People who are willing to get off their ass to search the entire room for the tv remote because they refuse to walk to the tv and change the channel manually..
When people say "Oh you just want to have your cake and eat it too". Damn right! What good is cake if you can't eat it?
When people say "it's always the last place you look". Of course it is. Why the hell would you keep looking after you've found it? Do people do this? Who and where are they? Gonna Kick their asses!
When people say while watching a film "did you see that?". No Loser, I paid $12 to come to the cinema and stare at the damn floor.
People who ask "Can I ask you a question?".... Didn't really give me a choice there, did ya sunshine?
When something is 'new and improved!'. Which is it? If it's new, then there has never been anything before it. If it's an improvement, then there must have been something before it, couldn't be new.
When people say "life is short". What the hell?? Life is the longest damn thing anyone ever does!! What can you do that's longer?
When you are waiting for the bus and someone asks "Has the bus come yet?". If the bus came would I be standing here, dumbass?

Hannity Revives Myth About Fonda and POWs
They did a segment in which Col David Hunt repeated the story that POWs passed notes to Fonda during her visit and she then turned the notes over to guards.
Hannity and Hunt hammered Fonda a bit more while Hunt continued to repeat the myth so it would sink deeply into the viewer's mind.
Jane Fonda has apologized several times for that picture - she was young. Did our own alcohol addled president get forgiven for things he did when he was young? (Well not so young, he was over 40 before he stopped drinking)
Wasn't Laura Bush forgiven for negligence in running a stop sign and killing her ex-boyfriend?

YOU CAN FOOL SOME OF THE PEOPLE MOST OF THE TIME
Here is a portion of what the study says.
While the Downtown Circulation Study estimated that in 2005 approximately 55 percent of the traffic leaving the BTC would use the tunnel/surface route, and approximately 45 percent would use Washington Avenue, that split does not account for the increased vehicular traffic associated with the new Kitsap Federal Credit Union or the "Kiss-n-Ride" lot adjacent to it. As areas along Washington Avenue continue to develop and the previously unaccounted for local traffic becomes a factor, the split for traffic exiting the BTC is projected to be 65 percent using the tunnel/surface route, and 35 percent using the Washington Avenue Route. This 65/35 percent split is used for analysis of the year 2030 traffic volumes and impacts contained in this report.
The Bremerton Sun reported:
Neal Campbell, project manager for the state, said the hearing accomplished his agency's goal. "I've had an opportunity to talk to a lot of people, and I'm hearing a lot of both types of comments, both for and against," he said. Campbell said that state Department of Transportation officials plan to respond to all of the testimony, which could take weeks.
Neal Campbell went on to say: "It really allows us to communicate better," he said. "If you get the stand-on-the-soapbox hearing - which is what I call the other kind - you find that not as many people get a chance to talk because you have time limitations and some are just scared to get up."
The Sun article said: Several members of Citizens against the Tunnel, or CATT, were on hand. Some grumbled about the open house format. "This is a dog and pony show," Del Knauss said. "We need a true public hearing on it."
Knauss and members of CATT believe that building a tunnel is a waste of taxpayer money, and that a surface alternative would be cheaper and more reasonable.
Knauss filed a motion with the state Court of Appeals in Tacoma in September, requesting a hearing on a Kitsap County Superior Court ruling that denied an initiative vote on the tunnel. He said a court date for the appeals hearing is scheduled for May 9.

THEY DON'T TALK ABOUT THIS PART OF SOCIAL SECURITY

Whose Security? What Social Security Means to Children and Families
Social Security is the single largest program that provides support to American children. It is also the primary, if not the only, source of life and disability insurance for many U.S. families, especially those headed by younger workers. The program is responsible for keeping many middle and low-income children from falling into poverty when a parent dies or becomes disabled. This policy brief describes the role that Social Security plays in protecting America's children and argues that the current debate ignores how privatization and benefit cuts will impact our most vulnerable population-children.
Why Social Security Matters to Children and Families: What Every Policymaker Should Know
Social Security has provided a reliable retirement safety net for the elderly for more than six decades. But the program also provides working parents with valuable-and irreplaceable-insurance protection for their families against the tragedies of serious disability and death.
Over 5 million children benefit from Social Security as dependents of workers who have died or become disabled, or as family members in households where an adult relies on Social Security. The program provides more benefits to children than any other social program.
What is Social Security?
So say your about 30 years old, have a family and pass away. Under this new Bush plan you have only been building this so called "PRIVATE" account for 10 years. What does your family do now? I have no problem with having a Thrift Savings Plan IN ADDITION to Social Security.

IT'S NOT POLITICS, ITS JUST BUSINESS
HOW DEEP UP HIS ASS CAN ONE MAN PUT HIS HEAD?
Tom Delay showed us all yesterday with his statement following the death of Terri Schiavo.
First about two weeks ago he said:
"This is about Terri and her life and her family that want to take care of her. IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH POLITICS".
And he followed that up with the this:
"We will look at an arrogant, out of control, unaccountable judiciary that thumbs their nose at congress and the president when given the jurisdiction to hear this case anew and look at all the facts and make a determination, they chose not to participate".
I DON'T GET IT, THE SYSTEM WORKED. The Schiavo issue does not make a case for judicial reform --- it worked as designed. They don't like the results.
WHAT DOES LOVE HAVE TO DO WITH IT
With these guys nothing. These are three of the Schindlers advisors and from what I've seen these so Christians need to start praying for themselves. I haven't seen an ounce of compassion from the three of them combined.
It is guys like this that make me more sure each day that we need a separation of Church and State. We would all be marching to the same tune if they had their way.

Hung Chow called his boss and said, "Hey, boss, I not come work today. I really sick. I got head ache, stomach ache, and legs hurt. I not come work."
The boss replied, "You know, Hung Chow, I really need you today. When I feel sick I go to my wife and tell her to give me sex. That makes me feel better and I can go to work. You should try that."
Two hours later Hung Chow called his boss back. "Boss, I do what you say and I feel great. I be at work soon. You got nice house."
