MY THOUGHTS FOR WHAT THEIR WORTH . . .

From today for the next couple of weeks my posting may be short as it is today because of some very serious PC problems on this my main system.
It started this past weekend when my system was not responding. I ended up shutting it off completely. When I powered back up it some really strange things began to happen.
As an example the system couldnt find my printers. I even reinstalled them still no luck. Nothing workedas far as being able to print. But the funny thing is that I could print from my e-mail program. Go figure.
Another example is I have a program called RemindMe it allows me to keep track of appointments and birthdays and that sort of thing. Ive used this program on an almost daily basis. When after my problem it popped up and said that it was an evaluation copy which was not true. I had paid for it, registered it and received and installed the KEY to make it the real deal.
I decided to try the Recovery Option by holding down the F11 key while I did a reboot. It didnt work it acted as tho I wasnt holding the key down and went right into rebooting.
I then ran the diagnostic option and the system gave me a disk error message and to me to call HP for resolution which I did.
It turns out my hard disk is going south and needs to be replaced. As luck would have it my warranty expired about 30 days ago. See how that works.
As we talked about options it occurred to me that I had read somewhere that COSTCO or American Express offered an extended warranty beyond what HP gave me. So I called COSTCO to see if that was true or was I just dreaming.
Turns out they indeed do and are sending a box for me to pack up this PC and ship it free for repair.
Now the hard part is being able to backup this system because I have all my Turbo Tax info from last year on it just waiting for this year. I also have my Quicken Data, Word, Excel, Video and Images, remember this is a 600 GB hard drive.
I also have to transfer programs which may be a really big problem if I cant find the install disk and user key.
I think I have maybe a week or so to do all of this backing up and moving files. So you know what Ill be doing for the next few days.
I could learn to hate computers.

THE BENEFITS OF GROWING OLDER (and you thought there weren't any)

ALMOST A GREAT QUOTE. . .
Advice given to RAF pilots during WWII when a prang (crash) seems inevitable, endeavor to strike the softest, cheapest object in the vicinity as slow and gently as possible.

My God I love dogs.
BTW, what good is a picnic table if you can't lay on it?
