UPDATE: The other day I asked for your prayers for Bill Mackem, a friend of mine that was going in for by-pass surgery that morning (Tuesday). Well it seems that this surgery which should have taken 6 hours lasted for almost 12 hours. Needless to say he wasnt taking visitors.

The info Ive gotten so far is not very clear, its now Thursday and I think Im just going to call the Hospital and see if they can give me any info or if I can come in for a short visit.

Could I ask for a little prayer or two again, I really do think it helps.

Well after taking that BIG cedar down you can see the dropping on my roof. In the old days I'd get up there and clean it myself. But today with these tired OLD legs I have to hire someone to do it.

These before and after pictures tell the story. With that tree now gone Im hoping my roof will stay a little cleaner a lot longer.

My effort to get rid of the STUFF that I havent used in years or no longer need is moving forward. These pictures show what Ive review this cycle which is the third load Ive given to Saint Vincent de Paul since I started this project. It seems it takes me about a month to get a load. Slow but steady.

PART 2 OF 2

Yesterday I started this Post talking about the switch from Analog to Digital that will take effect on June 12, 2009. This was supposed to happen last February but they delayed it.

You may have seen the hype regarding this switch telling you if you had Cable you didnt need to do anything. Turns out thats not THE WHOLE STORY or even the truth if like me you are a COMCAST customer.

Yesterday I got an e-mail from Mark Casem, Comcast Corp. He found my Blog and the Post I made about this transition. In his e-mail he said in part:

Regarding the Comcast "internal transition", we will eventually move analog channels to digital. This is totally different for the one scheduled in June. The internaltransition will allow us to add more channels especially HD channels. For every analog channel, we can fit in 10 to 12 digital channels or 2 to 3 HD channels. In some areas, analog channels were already moved to digital and we've offered Digital to Analog converters (DTA) at no cost. This will allow youto continue watching the analog channels that will be transferred to digital. If you need more information, please feel free to contact me.

So it seems this is an effort to create more HD channels and as a result raise my monthly rate. While thats not what he said thats how I view this move. Also he says these DTA converters are FREE thats not true. . . the first 3 are free but each additional will cost you $1.99 PER MONTH, you can't buy them. That makes me mad.

Also if you have a TV Tuner in your computer as I do on three of my systems which means I'll need 3 of the DTA converters, one for each of my computers. I have 5 active TVs, and remember it doesn't matter wither they are old analog TV's or brand new right out of the box flat panel TV's they both need this converter.

It drives me NUTS that these companies (cable and some others) have not learned a damn thing from the Tech companies of the past. They all want their own system that is unique to them. This lack of compatibility means they can require you to buy it from them only which tends to keep the price up.

Using myself as an example I have 5 TV that are currently in use at different times and three computers with built in TV tuners. Subtract the 3 free DTA's that Comcast gives me I will still need 5 more. At $1.99 per month times 5 my cable bill will go up $10.00 per month for a total of $112.30 per. Thats for Expanded Basic cable and Internet Access.

I'm sure I'll have more to say on this subject in the days to come.

May 27: Mark Krikorian of The Center for Immigration Studies wrote at the National Review Online that it is unfair to ask the rest of the country to pronounce Judge Sonia Sotomayor's name correctly. Is it any wonder he's today's Worst Person in the World?
