WE NEED A FEEL GOOD STORY

050508_gma_boy.jpg

We often see stories about kids stealing cars, bringing guns to school doing drugs and worse. Well I think it's time for a feel good story and this is one.

It's about a 9 year old paperboy hailed as a hero.

Watch the video and see if you don't agree. Makes you feel good that there are still kids like this all over the country. The truth is there are more like this young man that never get recognized for all the good they do.

I FEEL GOOD ABOUT KIDS TODAY.

MISSION NOT ACCOMPLISHED 2 of 5

050208_BM_mis2.jpg

THE INSTITUTE OF EXPERTOLOGY

In the introduction to MISSION ACCOMPLISHED, Victor Navasky and Christopher Cerf write:

It is, of course, twenty-four years since the Institute of Expertology issued its first findings. For those who may have been too young to see our study, or are too old to remember it, we recall that, not withstanding the best efforts of the Institute's worldwide cadres of researchers, we were unable to identify a single expert who was right. At that time, despite these findings, our scholarly integrity compelled us to concede the statistical probability in theory the experts might be right as much as half the time. It was simply we hadn't found any.

Upon the 1984 publication of its first book, THE EXPERTS SPEAK: THE DEFINITIVE COMPENDIUM OF AUTHORITATIVE MISINFORMATION, THE NEW YORK TIMES called the Institute, founded by Cerf and Navasky, an "august body of experts on expertise."

"It's a very serious organization," Cerf told THE TIMES, "that studies the works of experts in every field and comments upon it." Calling themselves "meta-experts," Cerf and Navasky have kept their tongues in their cheeks with their ongoing study of experts, and the results have been a hilarious, often biting, commentary on our media culture.

This is a 5 part series from The Journal.

WHAT ARE THEY HIDING

050508_talk_point.jpg

A couple of weeks ago the NY Times did an expose on the "Military Analyst" that are used by the TV networks including Cable TV. Did you hear anything about it?

HERE'S A SHORT SUMMARY:

Networks again refuse to go on the record about NY Times' military analyst expose

ABC, CBS, and NBC have still not reported on any of their news programs The New York Times' revelations about the hidden ties between media military analysts and the Pentagon. Further, the major broadcast networks and cable news networks all reportedly declined to discuss the issue for an NPR report; the networks similarly reportedly declined to participate in an April 24 PBS NewsHour segment on the issue.

Continuing their silence, the major broadcast networks and cable news networks all reportedly declined to discuss the April 20 New York Times front-page article on the hidden ties between media military analysts and the Pentagon on the record with NPR media correspondent David Folkenflik.

Further, according to a search* of transcripts available in the Nexis database, the broadcast networks -- ABC, CBS, and NBC -- still had not reported on the revelations in the Times story on any of their news programs through May 1.

According to the Project for Excellence in Journalism's (PEJ) News Coverage Index, there were "only two related stories in the week of April 21-27, both of them in the April 24 PBS NewsHour broadcast." As Media Matters for America previously noted, the three major broadcast networks -- ABC, CBS, and NBC -- and the three major cable news networks -- CNN, Fox News, and MSNBC -- all reportedly declined to participate in a segment on the April 24 edition of PBS' NewsHour about "the role of military analysts on TV and in the Pentagon."

ABC = Good Morning America, Nightline, World News with Charles Gibson

CBS = CBS Evening News with Katie Couric, The Early Show, Face the Nation

NBC = Nightly News with Brian Williams, Today, Meet the Press

Fox = Special Report with Brit Hume, The O'Reilly Factor, Hannity & Colmes, On the Record with Greta Van Susteren

Well so much for that FAIR AND BALANCED BULLSHIT.

BUSHED

Keith Olbermann has listed the various scandles in the Bush administration. Here are three more.

Excuse for more guns? The Secretary of Interior has proposed new regulations that would throw out laws passed during the Reagan administration, and make it legal for someone to carry a concealed handgun in a National Park or Wildlife Refuge.

WORST PERSON IN THE WORLD

Keith Olbermann picks the three worst persons in the world.

Coulter references 'Manchurian Candidate'. Ann Coulter wondered whether Obama is a "Manchurian Candidate," but has she even seen the original movie?

PRETTY GOOD JOKES

ADOPT A PET

050408_bill_lilly2.jpg

Billy and Lilly have formed a close bond. The kid was abandoned by her mother when she was only a few hours old and adopted by paternal Billy when his owner Elizabeth Tozer began hand rearing the goat.

The unusual bond has developed over the last month and the pair are now inseparable. Elizabeth said: 'Lilly follows Billy around which is really quite amusing to watch and Billy sleeps with the goat and cleans her mouth after she feeds.'

JUST THINK ABOUT IT

If you're riding' ahead of the herd, take a look back every now and then to make sure it's still there.
