CNN Suggests Rudy Led During 1993 Terror Attack -- Even Though He Wasn't Mayor At The Time
Why do you suppose it is that these TV Networks, News Organizations, News Readers, Pundits and Talking Heads don't do a better job of Fact Checking? Here is a quick example.
Today, CNN weighed in with a somewhat detailed report on Rudy's 9/11 performance. And it contains both good and bad. The bad first: It badly botches a key fact, wrongly suggesting that Rudy's experience includes dealing with not one, but two terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center.
From the report, here's CNN's John Roberts:
ROBERTS: And in the GOP presidential race, Rudy Giuliani is the tough-talking candidate who says he'd be the best to lead that war. Why? Because he's been through it twice. During the 1993 and 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City.
Whoops! The World Trade Center was attacked for the first time in February of 1993. Rudy Giuliani became mayor nearly a year later, in January of 1994.
To me that's a basic fact that is easily checked, yet they didn't do it. Yes, I know it's a small mistake but people around the country will be giving Rudy more credit then he is due.
