I think there are dangerous people and dangerous leaders in the world that America must deal with and deal with strongly, but we have more tools available to us than bombs. And America needs to use the tools that are available to them so that these people who are sitting on the fence, who terrorists are trying to recruit, the next generation, get pushed to our side, not to the other side. We've had no long-term strategy, and we need one, and I will provide one." - - John Edwards
You remember back to the lead up to the War in Iraq the following where used to help make the case that this was a good idea; weapons of mass, destruction, deliver materials of mass destruction, nuclear weapons and linkage to Al Qaida. None of which turned out to be true.
Once again I point out that back in 2004 run for the White House John Kerry had it right when he said
- - - they are really misleading all of America in a profound way. The war on terror is less - - it is occasionally military, and it will be, and it will continue to be for a long time. And we will need the best-trained and the most well-equipped and the most capable military, such as we have today. But it's primarily an intelligence and law enforcement operation that requires cooperation around the world - - the very thing this administration is worst at. And most importantly, the war on terror is also an engagement in the Middle East economically, socially, culturally, in a way that we haven't embraced, because otherwise we're inviting a clash of civilizations. And I think this administration's arrogant and ideological policy is taking America down a more dangerous path.
Over the weekend we learned of a plan to Blow the hell out of JFK Airport and the pipe line that provides the jet fuel which is piped in from New Jersey.
This is about the 3rd or 4th "major" busts in the past 6-8 months and as far as I can tell not one police officer, FBI agent, CIA agent or Homeland Security agent was killed or even injured.
Gee does that mean that John Kerry was right back in 2004.
Looks that way to me. If this latest group turns out to be real, it tells me that while terrorism is absolutely a problem (but we've known that for a long, long time.) Check out my post on April 29, 2007 where I show a bar chart for the last 17 years showing the number of Terror Attacks. I actually had to drop off the years during the 80's so I could make the chart readable.
Anyway before people go all crazy because I said " If this latest group turns out to be real ." By that I mean that there are some CRAZY people out there and until they get to the bottom of what was going on I think it's wise not to go off the deep end.
Having said that, as John Kerry said "we will need the best-trained and the most well-equipped and the most capable military" and I add that goes for our intelligence and law enforcement operations too.
